Is there any chance to get the Always on display on huawey p20?
always on makes sense only with oled/amoled panel... so would make no sense at all with P20
It does not matter. For example, lg g5 g6 is not amoled so they have always on. It's better on amoled but not necessary.

Hello,
In my country I can get the Pixel2 and Huawei P20 at around the same price, P20 being a bit cheaper, depending on the deals.
Now I am aware that Pixel 2 is an older device but it has it's pros.
What I like and dislike about p20:
+ lcd screen without Pulse With Modulation
+ modern design
+ dual cameras
+ fingerprint scanner on the front, making easier to unlock when on my desk
+ fingerprint scanner gestures which allows disabling the nav bar
+ software with customization
- notch, but from what I've read it can be disabled easily
- no stereo
- back glass which can be broken and is slippery
- updates my come slow
What I like and dislike about Pixel2
+ another almost 2 years of updates
+ metal back
+ stereo speakers
- amoled with PWM
- design
Usually reviews tend to be for the P20 Pro, especially long term ones so the P20 is a bit shadowed by it. I do not root or use custom roms. I do like to read on the phone, that is why no PWM comes as an advantage. I also need it to take great pictures without too much config. So if anyone owned P20, can share the downsides compared with Pixel 2? How are the cameras in comparison ? Are there any downsides of Pixel 2 in terms of hardware issues?
Thank you for your time.
Pixel 2, no contest. P20 may be a better device on paper, but it can't stand a chance next to the Pixel 2. My colleague has one, and we've compared the cameras, the Pixel 2 beats P20 in every shot (except maybe zoom on some occasions).
Software wise, ugh. EMUI on the P20 is just garbage and feels like Android KitKat and iOS 7 had a baby. Just no.
So from me, get yourself a Pixel 2 and enjoy.
I love my Pixel 2. I only wish it got some better battery life. It's actually the best size for me. I don't mind the bezel because of the dual stereo speakers.
Thank you very much for your answers.
I use the Pixel 2, owned the p20 for a few months.
It is a tough call, but i would go for the pixel again no question about it. But it depends on what you value more.
The camera on the pixel us much more reliable always good shots . software experience much better. I use gestures on the Pixel ( Fluid NG app).
For me the P20 was better on battery and screen size.the fingerprint gestures are great as well. The speakers better on the pixel of course.
@icstrim1 you mention that the camera on pixel is more reliable, does this mean that on P20 you got bad pictures some times? Or does the P20 require more adjustments before taking a picture? Also the software isn't more customizable that the one on pixel?

On the auto mode with Huawei i got bad pictures sometimes, oversharpens a lot especially in rock walls or buildings. Also folliage backround detail looks more realistic on the Pixel.
I couldn't get rid of the oversharpening on the Huawei, there seem to be no real cure for auto mode.
If you take photos of children or landscape, the Pixel is a better choice in my view.
I prefer the clean Android, much smoother , almost addictive. But emui is not too bad.
Thank you o much @icstrim1, very helpful information.
One last question, the P20 has a screen without Pulse With Modulation, while the Pixel's amoled has around 245Hz PWM. Do you notice any eye strain/tiredness or other issues on the pixel's screen vs P20?
Thank you again for your time
You are welcome.
I actually like the oled more, no issues with eye strain.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Just compared the G7 screen with: S10e, LG V40, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, P30 Pro, Iphone Xs Max, Xperia 10 and when it comes to reproduce the white color or max brightness, the G7 came up first. I would say second was the Xperia 10, but with not that much brightness.
Verry impressed, never thought that.
I also enebled comfort view on all phones and played with the adjustment bar for best results.
Also did some Hdr comparison with the V40 and I would say there is no more than 5-10% difference in color saturation in favor of the oled. It just competed very well with oleds.
One strange thing was that the black levels on the V40 seemed not that black for an oled, seemed like the G7 black. Weird.
I just think this display is maybe the best out there. Good job LG and I will miss this display on my next maybe G8 or V50.
This was my best comfort view settings.
Experiment no 2:
Today I have compared with:
S10e, S10+, P30 Pro and the results are that G7's screen is Number 1!
Next experiment with photos and maybe putting the flash on the s10+ambient sensor to trigger max brightness. But for whites and also color vibrance, G710 wins. Go and check for yourselfs.
Cheers ?!
Experiment no3: in hurry
LG G7 vs Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro
Full brightness on all, blue filter on all. Best adjustment to match the pure white.
Photos are shot with P30pro and mate 20 pro
G7 destroys latests OLEDs from huawei.
Color temp is overkill for G7, ridicilous 9000K. Look at this graph https://www.anandtech.com/show/13039/the-lg-g7-review/4
I found best white for my eyes with this settings (other colors look fine). Expert: all in middle, night filter etc turned off

For me this is blueish. Best for me is auto color and comfort view around 75%.
But it seems that the display now is AI controlled and also color temp has been improved since Anand tech test. Also I don't trust these display tests with specialized hardware and software. Best sensor is the human eye.
I noticed that when I took photos of the display, the camera sensor cannot replicate it's original color. Also anandtech test is based on hardware. Best sensor is the human eye. Period. No other sensor can replicate accurate.

I know v40 has purple ish display panel when it's showing black, which is better than lighter grey on v30. But is it worse than competitors?

I posted pics compared to Sony XZ2, and while XZ2 is way too blue in white balance department, next to G7 it looks professionally calibrated

Hi guys,
Having the Red MAgic 3, I am asking myself a question.
If I look at official site, it is said that it has a 6.65" AMOLED display.
OK.
But is this really true ?
If so, here are two questions :
- 1°) if it is AMOLED, why is there no "Always On Display" option that EVERY other OLED/AMOLED phone has ?
- 2°) if it AMOLED why does it look closer to my Xiaomi mi Max 3 than my Mate 20x or Galaxy A70 ? It's like a little "washed out" compared to Mate 20x even with "Vibrant colour" enabled.
Is there a way to check if it is AMOLED or any other technology or do we have to rely on the manufacturer description ?
Is there a way to have an app that will allow to set the display contrast/hue/saturation ?
Regards.

1. Yes, it's AMOLED. For some reason Nubia stripped out many of the options that were include in the Chinese rom. So no always on display.
2. It's a lower quality AMOLED panel. Because Nubia stripped out many of the options there is no way to adjust colors, contrast, hue, color temperature, etc.
It's a very bright-coloured AMOLED screen

Hum... Really ? Then I may have a defective unit !
Mine is really not "bright". Let alone "coloured". It"s more "washed out" here... at least compared to Huawei Mate 20x which also AMOLED I think...
I took an app that allows to set brightness, contrast and RGB. Will see if that is working all right.
Regards.
maybe you have a defective phone, since it is really amoled

Out of curiosity, which app is that?

Because it's Nubia, and it'll be up to us to fix it ourselves with root and a rom
Now that my view 20 has got Android 10, it has got even better but that new View 30 looks amazing.
Anyone going to upgrade to the view 30?
Not me as v20 is still a solid performer. Probably will stay with this for another few months before i plan. Also, lets see about the global launch due to ban thing [emoji19], so no clarity over it yet.

Initially I was interested in upgrading to the V30 Pro, but when they announced that both models in the V30 series would use LCD instead of OLED that put me off so I ended up switching to the P30 Pro.

LCDs can't display true black, whereas the improved contrast ratio of an OLED make it much easier on the eyes, especially when viewing at night. OLEDs also tend to be easier to read under bright sunlight as well as saving some battery compared to LCDs. While it's possible to have an always-on display for both OLEDs and LCDs, it will consume far more battery power on an LCD than an OLED.

LCDs are brighter, white looks better on LCDs, colour saturation and colors looking more true-to-life or another strength of LCD, LCD screens also save moneyand most of all LCD screens don't have burn in as bad as OLED screens.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages

Still waiting for android 10 on my device. ?
I am disappointed because of the v20 alternative roms non support.
No kernel sources, no bootloader unlock, no custom roms.
I love the hardware and the debloated rom is ok.
But instead of a v30 I will seek for a more open device like mi 9t pro or OnePlus ...
Ok, I know that RealmeUI has some kind of Always On Display but it is only enabled for devices with amoled panels. Is there any way to get something like that on the NON Amoled ones??? Like Moto Display??
