Pixel 2 crash i.e shutdown (Pixel 3 Bug in Pixel 2, but worse) - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Hi,
The pixel 2 crashing, if you are listening to songs on spotify and try to use camera ( same bug as pixel 3 but instead of removing the app, spotify, whole phone crash and shutdown). Display shows weird lines(Like, it got hardware issue or something).
Has anybody had this issue?
or
can someone try this and report?
1. Start spotify, play some song.
2. Open Camera app, try to click a picture.
3. Boom.. phone crash.

Just tried the method you suggested and mine worked absolutely fine.

What android version (build) are you using and spotify app version?
Mine is also working now.. I have heard, that this bug doesn't occur every time on pixel 3. It is definitely a memory management bug.

9.0.0 (PPR2.181005.003, Oct 2018) and spotify 8.4.75.670

I am using October OTA and spotify 8.4.75.670, and works normal.

It happen with Snapchat and Google music in my pixel2, now before I enter Snapchat I have to clear snapchat cache then I can use snapchat but without any app using the camera or speakers in the background. This problem started with my Pixel 2 before Android 8.1 update and it still.

Moto G Video Crashes

Recently, after about a day on PA 4.3, my phone started to crash whenever I try to load a vvideo. I can load up YouTube no problem, but when I click on a video, it will show the loading ring and play a small bit of sound from the video and crash. I've tried with videos I've taken with the camera as well as videos in browsers and everything, mostly it'll just crash the app, but occasionally the phone will soft reboot. I don't know the cause of this, and it frustrates me that I'm not able to watch any videos on any app without a crash. I've factory reset the phone and it still has the same issues. (Switched to CM11 and same problem as well, so its definitely the phone) Help?
This is a known issue. dhacker had fixed it and this bug should be fixed in the next build of all the ROMs that are based on CM sources.

Thanks for the quick reply, I went back to 4.2 Beta 2 and I'll just rest there until the video problem is fixed, but its nice to know it won't take long.

[Q] My Camera Is Now Completely Useless.

For some God forsaken reason, the camera in my N5 is a pile of crap. Let me list the issues:
(Note I'm using the stock Google Camera app and have tried CM Focal with identical results).
Switching from Rear to Front camera takes a stupid amount of time, usually winds up crashing the Camera app altogether.
Switching from Camera to Video results in a grey bar, 1/10th the width of the screen, spanning the entire length of the right side of the screen. The app usually crashes after this.
Videos usually can't record, the screen freezes, forcing me to hit the back or home button.
When videos do record, they're corrupt and cant be played on any windows machine or in any program.
Sound quality is laughable. (wasn't when I first bought the phone with 4.4.2 on it)
Snapchat usually can't even launch the camera and asks to restart the app. Usually results in me having to reboot the phone.
When the camera does work in Snapchat, pictures come out fine, but switching cameras usually reproduces the issue mentioned above. Videos, however record only 50% of the time. The times they dont, the screen freezes, resulting me having to restart the app.
When videos do actually record in Snapchat they have about a 50/50 of being unable to be played back, resulting in the error message: "Can't play this video".
On rare occasions, using the camera in Snapchat results in the screen flickering rapidly for a few seconds and then the phone reboots... The last time this occured it wiped all the data to Facebook, Snapchat, and EvolveSMS.
These symptoms exist in both Vanilla KitKat 4.4.4 and CM11 (Snapshot M8). Yes, I have reinstalled Snapchat. I've also tried toggling on/off HDR+ to no avail.
My Camera is basically useless and it's extremely annoying. It has even caused crashes that have wiped data from my phone. Hardware related? Software related? I'm really at a loss here... Any help is appreciated.
Well first try a complete fresh install to see if it's just software related

Factory reset, wiped case and dalvik, freshly installed CM11 last night before bed. Same symptoms exist as they did before.

Working camera and Netflix apps for Oreo?

Anyone found out which Google camera port and which Netflix apps work on Oreo now?
Thanks
This version of Netflix works netflix-4.16-200147-release.apk
Just uninstall the stock one.and there's already moded Google camera that works too.https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/....20_7.0H_C2API_v.4.0_AllinOne_Full_Manual.apk
I somehow cannot see any improvement in image quality with that Google camera app.

based on this post im guessing they still havent fixed the bug with Netflix app failing to launch a video without crashing and restarting the phone.

The Netflix app version mentioned above is working fine for me on Oreo.
You can find it on APK Mirror, last 4.xx release.
There's an on going issue I have when running the app at 60 90 or 120hz with WiFi on / off and one 4g where the app launches but then the content starts to play and will crash and reboot the phone without errors. If the video plays back more than 10seconds of content then it's fine. I've stummped razer on this as they thought it was buffering but I've had other phones on the same sim card and wireless networks and they don't crash

Are you on the O preview?
Can you provide more detailed information and example steps so that I can try to reproduce it?
Also if possible attach a bugreport zip generated after the crash (in dev settings).

its too random to really replicate i just use the phone normally and then maybe at lunchtime try to open Netflix - The app always opens and lets you navigate and select a video however about 85% of the time when the video is up on screen it will play 1-2 seconds freeze and then restart the phone.
If the video plays longer than 10 seconds then generally it wouldn be a problem.
It happens more often on the 120hz setting but did occur when using 90 and 60 settings but just not as much.
I put so much of my time into troubleshooting the issue however Razer have now told me they are aware of the cause and believe they have fixed the issue in the next system update so assuming its fixed in MR4 and not a Netflix/Network issue.

If you are on N, the issue would be fixed in the O update.
I'll wait for Oreo ? just an one considering the partnership between razer and netflix

Android Auto wonky on Pie

Has any one used Android Auto on Pie? During navigation it blanks out for a couple of seconds and then resumes for no reason.
Just checking if anyone else is facing a similar issue.
AA has been doing this during the beta stages. I have the problem where sometimes it works & sometimes just a black screen on Pie

I'm not having any more issues than the very rare issues I saw on Oreo where reconnecting resolving them. It'd be a black screen with just the icons at bottom. No difference with Pie and it's super rare.
I'd honestly check the USB cable you are using. Some are finicky. You can Google the most recommended ones
Worse...
After the OTA Pie update (VZW Pixel 2) my phone just goes into a charging/not charging cycle every 1.5 seconds, never connecting to my Pioneer AVH-2300NEX.
Doesn't seem to be the same issue as the Pixel XL not quick charging, but might be related.
I might just have to go back to my N6... The Pie update also removed the ability to unlock the bootloader.
Working here (using AA on the phone, not the car). Only issue is that, only when running AA, Spotify's track metadata doesn't show on the car properly over Bluetooth.
Was the same with Oreo (actually slightly better with Pie)
Google Play Music works fine
Spotify works fine outside of AA
Pandora under AA on Pie restarts every couple of minutes, interrupting the current song and starting a new one, with AA displaying an error message when it happens. Pandora also can no longer be launched by the app that's built into my head unit (2018 Outback), so these are probably both app issues as opposed to being in AA.

Pixel 3 Camera Crashes

I'm currently on February patch update and my Pixel 3 native camera app keeps crashing, it crashes if I use the camera with other apps, it also crashes when I click on my photo gallery, sometimes it even crashes when switching camera modes, anyone else having this issue? I have to force app close, clear cache and even restart my phone, also deleted app updates and reinstalled them.

Hi! Thanks for the advice, I checked for updates but there are none, I even factory reseted the phone and wiped cache, installed March update and I'm still facing the same problem
Did you update to March 5 patch? There were some cameras fixes in that update.
I'm facing the same issue. Pixle 3 updated with the March update yesterday. Now, the camera will work once after restarting, then it will force close. If I try to change modes, it force closes. If I try to re-enter the app, it force closes. I deleted data/cache, uninstalled updates, rebooted into safe mode, and none of those things changed the problem. Frustrating.
I just downloaded March 2019 OTA security patch (PQ2A.190305.002) . Camera issues persist. It would open for the first a few tries. Then after a while it would take forever to find the view finder and would crash when I switch from camera to video. Not sure if this is related to camera but I cannot turn on the flash light by pulling down the quick access menu.

Yes, I did but the issue remains. It's frustrating
It seems like there's no support at all for this issue.

I know the feeling, I also tried all that you mentioned but none of them resolved this camera issue, I've sent many reports but there's no answer from Google support team. Even with third party camera apps the issue persists.

I also noticed an issue with the flash, if phone is charging it gives a overheat warning when trying to turn the flash on and doesn't allow it to be turned on. I think it was in video mode.
So I have a dilemma: I can RMA my current 3 months old Pixel 3 with buggy camera and risk of getting a refurbished one with the same buggy camera. Or I can wait for yet another OTA to fix my camera (the latest March OTA didnt fix my camera). What should I do? Should I wait for a few days to watch camera performance on the March OTA?

I've read in other forums that some people struggled with RMA cause it's a "software problem" and not a hardware problem according to Google technicians. And if the March OTA didn't fix the issue the same day, I don't think it will do it tomorrow or next week

Hi i came thru the RMA with faulty camera in Europe and i get a brand new Google pixel 3.
It's also started happening to me with my phone (bought in the original launch batch). I'm still on the Jan update (with Magisk, and haven't done the March one yet), but it just started happening the past couple of weeks making me think it's an update to the camera app/Play/something-else causing it.

I have contacted Google support team...they asked me if they can connect to my phone so they can see everything I'm doing on it...and after 30 min of troubleshooting they said I need replacement because nothing helped...so they sent me a new phone and after I have received it sent them my old one and even without cable, headphones,charger...now I have new phone and double of accessoriesDDD
Further update - booting into Safe Mode fixes the problem, so it's almost certainly related to another app which integrated with the Camera causing the crashes/freezes. I've uninstalled Twitter (which is camera integrated), but that didn't fix it.
Has anybody found the offending app?
Pixel 3
Same issue with rear camera unable to focus (tried factory reset, emptying cache, etc.). 1 out of every 10 photos comes out OK.
Glad I finally found other people with the same issue as me. My phone has the current software update as well as the camera app update. App opens up to the view finder totally black, same with other camera apps (snapchat, instagram). Tried booting into safe mode and the problem persists. Only thing that seems to fix it for me is restarting the phone whenever I want to use the camera, which is annoying. Haven't tried Factory reset. Sent an email to the camera app developer some time ago with no response. Might just try getting a new replacement with my Best Buy warranty.

I have the same problem with my Pixel 3, bigger problem is that I live in Brazil, and officially it is not commercialized and has no warranty here, technically is a software problem, but Google does not respond to feedback...
I happened to come here for an unrelated matter but seen this at the top of Q&A.
I also had the same problem. I performed multiple factory resets, made sure my software updates were the most recent, I also ran the phone for a week with NO THIRD PARTY APPS. The problem continued. I finally said "the hell with it" and RMA'd my phone. Seeing how they were aware of the problem, the RMA did not count against my Preferred Care warranty.
Since my replacement (roughly 3 months ago), I've had ZERO issues.
