Suggestion for my first oneplus 6 - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'm an ancient user of xda since my first smartphone, a Samsung galaxy next and from that phone, i had some others smartphone, but never a flagship killer like 1+6.
Today i will receive version 6/64 A6000 and I'm so excited to begin with the modding, unlocking bl and installing a twrp to try the magisk module xxx no limits, because i would like to remain stock for the beginning but with a root access and some other stuff from that magisk module.
I would like to ask you if, in your opinion, it's necessary to wait some days and then to start with the modding or if you have some other tips to recommend to me before to start and brick my phone, for exemple update the phone with the latest firmware available and then unlock the bl.
Thank you for your time!

Well.. The only tio i have is to do what 70% of the people dont do.. Read the guides in the forum before you start. Other than that, go for it. In my experience oos is really good.. Betas are good from time to time.. Sometimes crap aswell.
Best rom i've tried is omni if you wanna go custom. But this is not necessary.
The a/b noob guide is a good lesson to have.
And then you can read the entire guide of "unlock bootloader, custom recovery, root, nandroid backup" before you start..

I'm not completely noob, i did modding for each smartphone i have had, so I'm familiar with unlock bl, twrp and adb commands. I already read the guide for oneplus 6 to be sure to have all the necessary to proceed.

I read in some threads that there is no official twrp for oos 9.0?
So, in case I will found my phone already with Android pie, which twrp i can install?

I'm using black atm(because it looks sick), used blu_spark before that. Both worked fine with pie.
edit: download(and unpack) msmtool, just in case!
most stuff comes with good enough instructions, reading those and this thread has done me well so far

I always unlock first because it wipes your data and that can be a pita if you have already set up most thinks. I can't live without titanium, magisk (root) and xposed so for me it's clear: every device gets unlocked and rooted the moment I grab it.
I'm still on stock but with xXx magisk mod to debloat most stuff from google and op.

It's exactly what i would like to do. Remaining stock with Root and some magisk module

Yeah.. Most people having issues are also people that are used to modding and what not.. They just don't understand a/b slots

I forgot to mention I am still on oreo and will remain there. I don't see any reason to waste a stable system for some google beta testground. The first issues I heard had to do with volume sliders. I thought Google learned their lesson with android 5 but yet they play around those settings again.

If you have particular mods you want to use, check to see if they're working on Pie yet before you install them. xXx NoLimits should work fine on Pie. But some other things may not yet be compatible.
I'm waiting for an update or two with Pie before transitioning out of Oreo, at least on this device. xXx NoLimits is very worthwhile for debloating and a few other things, so your impulse to install it will probably work for you. I've been using it since I got this phone.

I did it! Yesterday I unlocked the bl, installed twrp and magisk module xxx and all works well.
I just noticed some lags when scrolling in recent apps specially compared to the oneplus 8/128 completely stock. And this is a little bit annoying. Anyone had the same lags? Maybe it is possible to deactivate some ram optimisation from xxx module without flashing it again?

Why not flash again? Just change the ram optimization in profile and flash it again. Only this will change.

Disable the module from Magisk and then reboot. See if this solves the issue or not.
For me personally I did a dirty flash to pie and it was acting weird. I had to do a factory reset and it started working a lot more smoother after. This was before even installing xXx

ROM Version Difference?

Hello,
Just received my Mi4c this past Friday. In the settings --> about Phone it lists my current ROM as version 77.00.44.00(LXKCNCI).
I see that the newest stable version on the official site is V7.0.7.0.LXKCNCI.
Am I on a different ROM path. Why does my current ROM list with two numbers? i.e. 77 and the current ROMS's list with only 1 number between the decimal points?
Am I really just on: V7.0.4.0?
Same here i have the version 77.00.44.00 same as yours
It means the rom is modified by your reseller. Will not get ota updates and may have spyware installed.
the 77 version is an adware/spyware version flashed by your reseller
Will Recovery Wipe Phone

Hello, I have downloaded the latest Stable Chinese ROM from Mi.
If I boot into recovery and flash this ROM will it erase my phone and all the malware/spyware?
If not, how can I do that so I am working from a clean image.
Thanks for any help!

I don't have a Xiaomi phone (yet), but here is what I think is the way to do this (and how I would do it if I get this phone):
1. Download the latest stable Chinese ROM from MI (as you say you've done, I would download the developer edition, but stable should be fine).
From here: http://en.miui.com/download-293.html
2. Follow the directions here:
http://en.miui.com/a-232.html
As I understand it, it should remove the unwanted apps that the reseller installs.

Edit: fix a typo

Thanks for the reply.
I do believe this worked. I tried to flash the Stable Chinese version but it would fail. The install would get to about 10% then would stop and say something about not being not verified. So I downloaded the latest developer version and that did flash fine.
I can confirm that the apps are no longer there.

Can't I just update the existing rom (77) to a non-developer rom via Suite app or stock recovery as it is stated in the miui guide?

Yep! I've just managed to update the fake version (77) with the latest non-developer build (7.0.15.0) via stock recovery.
Get rid of those resellee version of miui... Lot's of boatware installed, no updates, with bugs and with lot's of chinese written stuff... At least mine was like that until I installed miui dev version which by the way is pre-rooted and really clean. Now I suggest everyone to change to CM or Mokee as they really improve the phones performance... Specially downloads... My WiFi downloads now look like 4G downloads... It's insanely faster... Give it a try... But I do miss miuis interface which is the nicest one IMO...

You can't flash older rom over new rom, your current chinese rom is newer(8.1.3.0) than the one your flashing(8.1.2.0).

You'll just have to wait for newer Global Rom to be release(8.1.4.0 for example, higher version number), either way i think you can dirty flash the rom via TWRP like @fforward72 said(i haven't done it myself so i'm not sure it will work), for worse it has a possibility to reset or even brick your phone.

It is a clean installation if one installs the lower rom version over the miui updater.
I installed the global official .zip rom over the shop rom (with a higher version number) and I lost all of my data.
Luckily I did the backup before (there comes a warning before one starts the update).
Another thing, I rooted the global official rom with SuperSU over the twrp. Now I have an issue with the usb connection - no connection possible until I unroot.
Exchanging SuperSU with SuperUser didn't help, another workaround with build.prop modification helps just temporarily.
Any ideas or solutions?

Can you tell me what version of SuperSU did you flash, is it the beta or stable? I think the boot.img needs to be modified like Redmi Note 3 users did to root their phone.
Sorry if silly but exactly how does it differ from developer rom?
Any reviews?
Does xposed work in this rom?
On the one that I tried - fake global unlocked rom - it gets into boot loop :/
Does any one know how can I turn off SIM card menu opening after every reboot or turn on?

Any Xposed installer are ad blocker working with root?

Do anybody got ad blocker and Xpose installer to work? And if where are the files?
It won't work without write access to system. There isn't proper root available for this phone yet

I'm with you bro. Almost shelved my Note 4 which is like the device that will never die with great devs, but the Mate 9, even with partial root to at least use Titanium gets me by with Nova and a few other added apps. (It One 3T is a non-sloucher I can see being a prime device to work and play). I have to admit it is the first phone I have used as a daily without real root since Android 3.x.

It is a great device but I've been rooting and modding since the first T-Mobile G1. I tried to go at it just as is but the itch just got me back. Lol. I'm keeping a close eye on the mate 9 forums like everyday checking to see about progress. If we could get AOSP on this beast I'd be too happy.

Way cool. And the superuser.zip is the item mentioned in the OP, or did you find a way to substitute? I think our biggest hang up was the encrypted partition along with the access controls are the file level (but I'm a big novice on the dev type work.)

Magisk v16 is out!

I was pleasantly surprised that the updating process is made very simple and seamless by the developers. All steps are done within the Magisk Manager app itself. Just follow the prompts in the app and all shall be good! :good:
1. Update Magisk Manager app to v5.6.1(105)
2. Update Magisk to v16 -- choose Direct install (recommended)
3. Reboot and profit!

Well, on the other hand, it is not a general news area for everything happening in the world. It is with regard to mi a1.
Can you imagine one thread for every app and utility update that is out there?
Magisk has it's own news thread. That should be enough.
I know this will not change anything around here. So... let's not open a never-ending discussion here too like in many other threads. Mods can decide what to do with these kind of threads.

Okay here's what you can do ask any rom developer. Is magisk necessary for a rom to boot.
And we are talking about custom ROMs only right?
Cause stock roms aren't shipped with magisk installed. If you got one with magisk pre-installed. Then you should contact your seller about that.
Magisk is sometimes required to disable secure boot for modded stock ROMs, so I'd say that @N1ck474 is technically right. Custom ROMs shipped with custom boot.img shouldn't need that. So @alkesh95 is probably right as well.

I am sorry to say this but he is not technically right.
Custom ROM designed for a device should never need magisk or any other external package to boot.
Everything necessary to boot is in the rom already.
Magisk required to disable secure boot for modded stock ROM:
No offence to any developer. But modded stock ROM is a patch job(it still requires a lot of work & time i am aware of that).
Okay my final statement.
Any rom which has atleast passed alpha/beta testing should not need magisk to boot.
That's how it was designed.

Experimental builds (or alpha/beta builds) are for testing purposes only.
Anything done to an experimental build cannot be considered as general solution for the ROM(Custom/Stock).

gravity box compatibility

Hey everyone,
did someone try the gravity box xposed module?
Does it cause system UI crashes as it does one the ROG phone? Given that the Zenfone 6 has a pretty stock android UI it should be much better compatible.
Kind regards
I have installed it successfully using edexposed (yahfa). So far i have no problems with the small changes i made.

Just follow the rooting guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/guide-how-to-root-asus-zenfone-6-twrp-t3940168
It is pretty simple. Find out the firmware version you have, download the patched boot image for your version from the guide. Enable developer options > usb debugging and flash the downloaded boot image using fastboot as described in the guide.

I've tested it myself now. Works surprisingly well with many different options.
The only ones not working so far are the lower 5 options in the customize quick settings menu and the centered clock which is a really pity as I love those functions.
