Hi guys.
I have an S7 border and my mainboard phone is dead. I bought another mainboard from a phone with the broken screen. Replaces the mainboard and everything worked perfectly except the fingerprint sensor. Does the firmware kernel fingerprint sensor driver on the new motherboard is incompatible with my fingerprint sensor hardware? I have the sensor that came in the phone that I bought, but it is of another color and I would have to remove the display to replace the sensor, with a high risk of breaking the screen. Do you think it's possible to be kernel incompatibility? Any guidance? The error is: "An error has occurred with the Fingerprint Sensor. If this message appears repeatedly, restart your device." I already removed the firmware for andoid stock 7 and 8 but did not solve this problem.
Please, somebody knows something about this?

Did you make sure everything is plugged in properly? You could try plugging in the home button /fingerprint sensor from the phone you bought and just leave it hanging out for testing purposes just to make sure it's the actual sensor or just something not plugged in properly.

i'm having a frustrating issue after replacing the screen on my sister's Moto G.
nothing is wrong with the new screen, everything is in good working condition there. however, neither the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor or accelerometer are working anymore. i don't understand why because as far as i can tell those components are attached to the motherboard and shouldn't have been affected by the replacement of the screen module. also, the front facing camera is not working either but that's my fault. when i put the phone back together i accidentally broke off that tiny lever you have to flip up to remove the camera in the first place. i guess the camera can't plug back in properly without it. so then i wonder if the missing front camera could be causing the other component issues?? that doesn't sound right to me but i thought i should mention it anyway. i have no idea how i'm going to fix the broken lever without replacing the whole motherboard...the screen alone was already $60. ugh
so my question would be does anyone know why these parts aren't working anymore, and how could i fix them? none of them destroy the phone's core functionality but i would like to get them working. i don't own an Android phone and i'm not really familiar with the OS, would a factory reset maybe get things working?
My screen goes black when I am in a phone call and it does not turn on unless I hold the power button or something like that. I have already went to the proximity settings to test that it is working.
Any ideas?
Firmware version? Seems to be a bug in last firmwares. Also had this issue some time. Now it seems to be gone.

.In the process of backing up my phone atm to try a factory reset. I'm on latest T-mobile version though.
How did you fix yours?
Bump. Anyone? Is there a fix or is my sensor faulty? Because if it is I can still send it back in for a replacement. Sometimes it will work fine, and sometimes it won't.
I've got similar problem. When sensor is activated, it's keeping activated even if nothing is in front of sensor, so I have to wait for other side to end a call.. any suggestions?
EDIT: problem solved-> I just cleaned the glass on proximity sensor, maybe some dust was there

I also have a problem with phone's proximity sensor. With me, it shows some signs of work right after i boot up the phone. In service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) -> Proximity switch starts with On value and then goes Off, On, Off, On.. a cycle of at least one minute. The interesting thing is when i cover the sensor it stays On, which means it detects its working. I suppose the sensor is faulty, as I tried several suggested methods to resolve this issue: pressing firmly on top of the sensor, factory resets, reinstalling the software with Sony's PC software kit, some applications from Google market, etc. None of them helped.
As I bought my phone 2nd hand, I see the upper speaker is pressed on its left side a little bit, as if the phone was dropped exactly on this spot at the speaker (which I find is almost impossible, as the front panel is perfect without scratches or anything) or somehow it was pushed with some sharp object. I explained this as it might have a link with the proximity sensor issue, or it may not be connected to it, not sure.
My phone showed a message saying "make sure finger is dry" so i tried rebooting and removing my fingerprint but now i cant add another as it has the same message. I've also noticed theirs a small chip in the sensor does anyone have any solutions?
Thanks
Have a rooted phone, restore from backup. From your post I'm getting that the finger print gadget was working before?
If it does not work then, with an OS where, for certain it was working before, the sensor may have been mux'ed.

In reply to this question from a year ago - I have exactly the same problem on a refurbished S8 I bought recently (small chip in the sensor). It's a very long shot, but I don't suppose you sold your phone and I might have it? I bought it from Handtec (in the UK). Does your phone number start with 07376?
Hi guys,
It seems i have an issue with my fingerprint sensor...
It began with a failure of the sensor, it stopped read my fingerprint.
I erased the fingerprint, tried to add a new one, with a new code, with no success.
Simply, when i put my finger on the sensor, nothing happens...
Phone is 4 months old, still on warranty...
Installed a new rom from the scratch with miflash, everything stays the same, sensor not detecting anything.
Anyone with the same problem?Any workaround, or how can i perform a test??
Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.
Press several times Kernel source on your settings-about phone , option 31 test fingerprint sensor ... Does it work ?
If not , did your phone fell on the ground or something ? It sounds like its hardware problem maybe it have to be replaced

Thanks for the reply.
Nothing happens...after pressing "enrol" and then touch on the sensor, do nothing...
It's strange, because i never dropped the phone...it has a glass protection and the original case...
The fingerprint sensor just suddenly stopped worked....
Does the phone have warranty ? Its a hardware problem

Yup, phone is 4 months old, i think it has 2 years warranty
Send it to warranty , its for shure hardware problem
I had the same problem, but Xiaomi didn't honor the warranty. What should I do?
Hi this morning suddenly I can't unlock my phone using fingerprint and there is no fingerprint option in settings. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I do a factory reset?
EDIT
I did a factory restart and it is official the fingerprint is gone...
Mine just disappeared. It has happened before and returned on its own, but not this time. I am c567 with 9.1.0.252 flashed. Maybe flashing a different version will get it working again
Maybe a hardware issue, loose fingerprint connector or something.
Then EMUI disables Fingerprint option if sensor is not found
Try googling for Huawei secret dial codes to find a hardware test for Fingerprint (?)
Mine must have been the connector because I put the phone face down on a table and put most of my weight on the back. After a restart the fingerprint came back to life. Obviously you risk breaking it but it worked for me.

You can open the cover and fix the fingerprints cables/connectors:
