I called for some troubleshooting on my keypad and they told me I had to factory reset. I had done that a few months ago and the problem persists so I called tech support. They told me to reset and I told them I already had but then she said well I see that you have XYZ app installed on your phone since May 2018 and another app since June 2018 so you didn't factory reset correctly. How do they know what I have on my phone and when I installed it? How can I block them from snooping on me?
Do you have the My Verizon app installed? Does it have the Data Usage Access special access granted it?

The only thing I found was My Verizon Services although not an app that I can see. When I enabled "system" in all apps I see it as a service or something. I disabled it so I'll see. I can't seem to find Data Usage Access app.

Usage Data Access isn't an app. It's a special access permission/setting. I'll be home in an hour and can give a detailed path to find it on the Pixel 2.

Thanks, I'll root around reddit see if anyone can shed light on how they did that. She knew the date it was installed, when it was accessed for all my apps, even ones I sideloaded. I just disabled the My Vzw app so perhaps that was it. I might call back and ask if they can see it now but I have to be discreet and figure out how to ask it.

edit: I know what I'll do. I say I did a factory reset and I'm not sure if it worked, can you please check if you see...xys app installed? Thing is it doesn't make a real difference now because I bit the bullet and got 2 Pixel 3s coming on Thursday and I'm trading the Pixel 2 in for $244. But going forward I'd like to mitigate this

My guess is it was the My Verizon Services app or the My Verizon app (if you had it installed). I'm curious if having the My Verizon Services disabled affects VoLTE, voicemail, or any other Big Red feature.

That's disturbing. You should call and and see if disabling those apps prevents them from knowing what you have installed.

So far nothing affected. WiFi calling was a concern but it's fine. This was a system app not visible under apps installed. You had to show system to see it. Very weird.
I'm definitely going to call tomorrow before I factory reset to trade it in.

Disabling the system process (that's what I'll call it since there is no app to speak of, I deleted My Verizon app ages ago) prevents them from seeing my device in their system. He wanted me to dial a *33 (something) number so he could then get into my device, albeit now with my permission. I respectfully declined and disconnected the call. One thing he did see was that there was a full accounting of my apps done on the 15th and it was logged in his system. That was the day that I had called in originally. So they don't just look and leave, they look and log it.
Needless to say when I receive my Pixel 3 the first thing I'll do is disable that service. They can see your device without any prompting at all or without your permission. Creepy as heck IMO. I believe that the iPhones are protected from this snooping and you have to dial that *33 number for them to access your device that way.

How would one even confirm that it works? I'm willing to try it out but I can't figure out a way to isolate the LTE signal. As long as LTE is enabled so will be regular voice, and there's no way for me to figure out over which band the call is going.

You can force LTE Only. I use the old LTE On/OFF from the Thunderbolt days. It gets you into the advanced Phone Info menu and you can select LTE Only and you will not be able to send any texts or make any calls.
So if you then can...Verizon has voLTE up and running in your area.

Hi guys,
I'm new to this and would like to give this volte a go.
I changed my settings to

true

true

and pushed it into the /system/customize/ACC/default.xml
I then pulled the file and confirmed the settings is there. If I go into the phone and looked under settings the IMS toggle doesn't show up. If I reboot the phone then default.xml's values reverted back to false.
Questions
1. Do i need to reboot the phone to see the values taking place?
2. If so, how do i make my changes permanent?
thanks
Richard
Would anyone care to benchmark the phone with FDE turned off and on? I'm curious how much of a performance hit it is and whether they're using hardware to handle it.

Excellent question. Not silly at all. Ars Technica just wrote an article on it yesterday! http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...yption-guide-protect-your-stuff-and-yourself/
Since we appear to have hardware encryption, there is absolutely no downside. Much more secure. A lot of people say only the paranoid encrypt, but there is a reason so many more people know what it is and apple has been doing it for some time.
Once we get root, it might make things a tiny bit more complicated by adding an extra step to flashing roms, but the added security is worth it.

Flashing ROMs on the Nexus 6 weren't an issue with encryption. Either they only encrypt the userdata partition or the keys are stored outside the areas typically formatted by TWRP.
Of course this means little until we try flashing on the Note 5. But I'm hopeful it won't cause headaches.

Awesome. That's good to know. There was actually an option to either encrypt the user portion of the device or encrypt the entire device when I did it I think. But I'm betting you're right. The keys are probably stored somewhere else.

The primary "Pro" reason to encrypt is data security. The main "Con" has been performance slow downs, but it looks like that is no longer the case with this device.
My work uses Google Device Policy to enforce encryption if I want Corporate email on my phone. They just want to ensure if I lost the device (or stolen) the data couldn't be compromised. Otherwise I have to get emails via a SSO login app, which blows. So to be productive while traveling, I have to encrypt.
Glad to see this device doesn't take a performance hit with encryption.

Praying that someone will be able to root it. Would love to remain stock, but have the ability to debloat properly, run my root file explorers, as well as Xposed framework/modules (primarily RootCloak).

The My Verizon app and widget is and forever will be the only thing I will actually use from Verizon as far as apps go. All of those VZW apps can go burn in hell!

I am account manager 6 lines so yea I need to for data usage. I don't see anthing wrong with it, what about you? Even though we have 30GB for 130$ sometimes it gets close to 30GB and since everyone pays their own line's bill.
Cheers

How'd you get 30 gb for 130? Best I have seen is 12 for 120 on my 3 lines. Much less 6. That's with a 23% work discount.

It was like a year ago when they had double promotion. Comes up to 105$ after 19% discount. Plus all lines will be out of contract in a week as of now there is only 1 more with contract.

Hey guys. I have been using Google photos since its inception and the feature "backup only when charging" has always been available. just got my HTC U11 and while setting up my phone, I noticed the said feature is not in Google photos. This is with the latest update. Can y'all check and see if it's the same for y'all? Could it be just my phone? Thanks.

Edit: After doing some research on it, I have found out Google has pulled this feature. It's really stupid for them to do that. I commented on their Google photos forum and gave feed backs. I recommend you guys do the same so this gets the proper attention and Google fixes it.

I have the option as well. Unlocked US variant.
Hmmm. Why would it disappear for me? I'm really puzzled.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Still don't have that option.

I'm missing this option on my Nexus 6p with Pure Nexus, so I'm not sure it's a problem specifically with the HTC U11 or whatever (I found this with a google search.) Always had it including a few days ago. Did a full wipe/reinstall today and the option is gone. Version 2.17.0.159033354.

Man isn't that strange? I'm about to swap to the Sony XZ premium so we'll see if it's there. Thanks for the update

Mee too, Nexus 6P running latest stock Android O beta with latest Google Photos 2.17.0.159033354 and lost the option to backup only when charging, and my 6P already has a terrible battery life, and in the last week Google Photos also keeps saying "getting ready to back up" with some photos left, I think its backing up all new photos but it keeps searching for something sayng that it's still getting ready to backup... BTW I had a Google Photos app update a few days ago but didn't correct any of these problems that started to show up about 1 week ago.

After updating the app this option is missing now on my xiaomi mi5s.
Does anyone, using Tasker, no root, has any script for this... I really need this feature... ?
Thank you in advance!

i have the latest version Google Photos 2.17.0.159033354 and i still have the option to backup while charging. this is so weird. idk whats going on here
I still can't believe this option was removed and not added back. This is soo stupid, I delete a lot of photos I do not want throughout the day so at the end of the day it syncs only the good stuff.
Can anyone confirm the last version of the APK that had it? I'd like to force install it and turn auto update off...

Update, did some experimenting and 2.17.0.158898286 is the last version with the option! Simply uninstall all Google Photos updates which revert back to the factory version.
Open the factory version once and go to the backup options.
Now close the app and download your APK version here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/photos/photos-2-17-0-158898286-release/
Install it
Turn while charging only on and smile
Disable updates via play store
Take that Google a holes...

I did that in the quote but basically just rolled back to the factory installed version (Moto G5 Plus) and got the on charge option back, however i slipped up and installed the latest version of Google Photos but the upload on charge option is still available so i dont know if it is a bit of a glitch that will vanish again at some point or if Google have been listening and the option has come back.
