Phone reboots to system when connnected to pc while in TWRP mode - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

Hi all!
My phone is rebooting when I try to flash/boot TWRP.
I've tried all versions of TWRP and the only one that works is the one made from xiaomi.eu team, but I can't flash others ROM with it, just xiaomi.eu roms.
When I run the code boot TWRP, it starts up and I can use it for 5 seconds, and then it reboots to system. If I flash TWRP and then boot, the same thing happens.
Even when it works, I'm able to use TWRP and flash a ROM, when I'm going to connect my phone to the PC while in TWRP, it reboots.
Sometimes I can flash/boot it, use it to format data (and decrypt miui) while connected to the PC. But after format data, I need to reboot to TWRP, when I do that, I can use just for 5 seconds and it reboots to the system.
What should I do in order to stop it rebooting to system when I connect it to the PC? I can't install custom roms because I need to wipe system first and then reboot to TWRP, but if I reboot, I may or may not reboot do the non existing system.
Also, it sometimes reboots to system when I connect it to the PC while in fastboot mode (whitout TWRP installed).

Can't enter Recovery Mode, no fastboot

Hey there,
so I wanted to update LineageOS to the latest nightly (1st August) coming from an April nightly. I did it OTA, entered TWRP, installed the update and got stuck in TWRP, which is apparently a known issue with TWRP 3.0.2.0. But I didn't know that, and tried to fix it by installing a backup of CM 13 WITHOUT wiping data, because I did not want to lose my data. Stupid, I know.
I then found a fix to leave TWRP and tried booting into CM 13 but now I'm stuck in a bootloop when the phone is connected to my pc. . It shows the CM logo, then prepares apps, shows the logo, prepares apps, logo, and so on... When I unplug it, it gets stuck at "Preparing Apps"
I can't enter Download mode or Recovery mode using the keys and adb/fastboot commands don't work while the phone is turned off or booting.
Any ideas what I can do?
Hello, what is your device?
If battery is removable, remove battery then put it back and try to boot to download mode
Its an LG 2 Mini and i have done that already.
Do you know how i could possibly fix the issue with rebooting when connected to my computer? Maybe then i can recover it via adb
Turn off the phone
Keep holding down Volume Up button.
Put a USB cable that is connected to pc
Continue holding Volume Up button throughout download mode until fastboot mode appears and you can release the Volume Up button.
If that didn't work try with volume down
I'm in Download mode now, thanks! However i can't use adb or fastboot commands, even though i have the right drivers installed.
In the Windows device manager it shows it as" "LGE Android MTP device" with Code 10 Error (the device couldnt be started)
Anyone knows how to proceed?

What do you get when you try to use fastboot commands?
"waiting for any device"
Fastboot devices is also empty
---
I believe it's a problem with my adb or my drivers, because I can't get it to work with my other phone either
Sorry for being late, try installing usb drivers again from the lg site
I did, but it didnt help
On Linux Mint it shows "unable to mount LGE Android Phone"

First of all, when restoring a backup, wipes are not necessary because the partitions are automatically formatted during the restore process. It wipes data for you, anything there would have been wiped anyway even though you were trying to avoid losing data, it is intentionally designed to do this so that you don't have conflicts with existing data.

What i meant when i said i didnt wipe data was that i didnt choose to restore data when restoring the backup - just system and boot

I assume the backup i tried to restore was corrupted then maybe...
I tried several cables, none worked I believe its a problem with drivers on the device, because it didnt get in a bootloop with a non data usb cable

Linux usually comes with needed files by default, just install the platform tools package + fastboot and adb package and try again i don't think you would need to install drivers.

Yeah, that would have caused problems.
You can't use data from one ROM in a different ROM. When you restored, you left the data from LOS, the system and boot from CM13 won't work with the data from LOS.
For future reference, don't mix data from other ROMs, they don't play well in most cases.
Using advanced restore to only restore certain partitions usually only works when using the same ROM or an older/newer version of the same ROM.
If you can get back into recovery somehow, you'll probably need to do advanced wipes to wipe system partition and data partition then flash a ROM. Wipe cache and dalvik/ART cache after flashing the ROM, then reboot.

No, flash tool doesn't recognize it

Failed to flash ROM, Computer won't detect phone now, need help!

So I tried to flash miui eu and my phone was unable to reboot. It goes straight into recovery.
This step by step what I've done so far:
1) unlocked bootloader with xiaomi unlock
2) installed ADB and TWRP 3.3.1-0
3) attempted to flash miui eu ROM, which resulted in boot loop/enters recovery now
I can go back and forth between bootloader and recovery. I was just going to transfer another ROM to my phone and re-flash.
HOWEVER, I can't access the files on my phone via my computer
The phone is detected but it' listed as an "unspecified" device on my computer. Drivers are up to date per the xiaomi bootloader unlocker app.
Any help is appreciated...
Format data?
And after reboot to recovery and flash rom
You have twrp?
Try following this guide I wrote for someone else, the other day, just substitute the version of Xiaomi.EU you want to use for Evolution (or the Xiaomi.EU rom used in the middle of the guide, that may work).
Bootloops on this phone usually come down to needing to *FORMAT* (not just wipe) data, or needing to have the correct vendor image; the one you can find in this little guide has been working fine for me with everything.

Had this issue before. Try format data typing "yes" then reboot to recovery.

Ultimate guide to install stable or Dev rom from Xiaomi.eu

Hello everyone,
First of all, rom and recovery are not from me... I just want to make a full guide to help you
So let's go !!!!!
1 step: unlock bootloader
https://en.miui.com/unlock/
BE CAREFUL unlocking your bootloader will erase all your data (internal storage) so don't forget to make a backup
2 step: flash twrp recovery
Download the recovery image from here
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-1CSfT4lQwFZngu6RI9eowLA9CmEMEPw/view?usp=drivesdk
Be sure to have adb and fastboot tools on your computer ... If not take a look at here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Past TWRP_umi.img on minimal adb and fastboot directory.
Open a cmd here.
Enable usb debugging on your device
Reboot your phone on bootloader (hold volume down + power), connect it to PC and tape:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery TWRP_umi.img
Then tape fastboot reboot while holding volume up button on your devices to reboot in recovery
3 step:
At the first launch of Twrp You have to choose SWIPE TO ALLOW MODIFICATION
4 step:
THIS ONE OF THE MUST IMPORTANT STEP
In twrp menu you have to go in Wipe data on choose format data
Otherwise the ROM will not boot.
5 step:
Reboot into recovery from twrp.
6 step:
Connect your phone to your PC and paste the xiaomi.eu ROM of your choice (stable or Dev)
7 step:
Flash ROM from recovery
8 step:
REBOOT AND ENJOY :good::good::good:
Does Xiaomi EU Rom run either on encrypted and unencrypted storage?
I cant get this to work, ive been trying everything for hours. I am sure i am missing something stupid but if anyone has any new ideas please let me know. I unlocked my device today, flashed twrp via fastboot, rebooted to recovery, formatted data then went on to install xiaomi eu rom. Ever since trying this, i am constantly booting into recovery or hitting a boot loop. i have formatted data more times than i care to think of ha ha. ive tried flashing the latest fastboot rom via mi unlock tool to do a fresh start but keep getting ''flash crclist error". Ive also tried flashing miui stock via twrp and it also, doesn't boot. ive tried many combinations in between. My next option is to try the fastboot global rom (though i believe i have a chinese device), i am waiting for it to download. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i will be eternally grateful if you can tell me what it is. I'm so frustrated, been flashing roms for years, never had anything take as long as this :crying:

Thanks everyone, i think it must have been something to do with the qualcomm drivers installed incorrectly. i have re-done that from scratch and managed to get mi flash tool working. Sorry to waste everyones time.
Greetings
I have followed the tutorials to perfection like 2-3 times and I still face the same issue
I always go back to TWRP after trying to boot into system.
I have tried 2 different recovery files
The experimental one asks for a password. and the other one works but keeps going back to recovery after flashing.
MIUI 11 rom
MIUI 12 rom
No matter what I do It keeps going back to recovery.
It's my only device so I truly need help.
I have tried re installing everything already.
At this point I just want to install stock rom and keep using it without flashing anything please help.
PHONE FINALLY REBOOTING INTO SYSTEM. I myself don't know what i did!!!
Bootloop (stuck on 5G logo) after flashing Xiaomi.eu ROM
Dear fellow XDA-dev community members,
Xiaomi Mi 10 (umi), coming from original stock ROM, MIUI 11 GLOBAL version V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM.
Bootloader unlocked official way via MiFlash Unlock 4.5.514.47.
Custom recovery TWRP 3.4.1b-0313 installed via XiaoMiTool V2.
Tested root by installing Magisk 20.3 via TWRP, no problem, then updating to Magisk 20.4 with the Magisk Manager 7.5.1.
The problems started when I tried to install Xiaomi.eu Custom ROM : xiaomi.eu_multi_MI10_V11.0.25.0.QJBCNXM_v11-10
Downloaded the Xiaomi.eu ROM to PC, then copied to the Download folder of the Phone.
Started phone in upload mode or TWRP. > Wipe > Swipe to Factory Reset + Format Data.
When formatting data I erase all folders in the phone, including the Xiaomi.eu ROM copied in the Download folder.
Some tutorials suggest to copy the Xiaomi.eu ROM from PC to phone after formatting the data, just by connecting the phone in TWRP to the PC, by going to > Mount and enabling MTP.
Tried this method but when I send the Xiaomi.eu ROM file to the phone the progress bas doesn’t move.
So I restarted the phone, without installing the Custom ROM, went through all the screens of initial phone configuration. Lost Magisk and root (but I supposed that it’s not mandatory to install Custom ROM). Copied again the Xiaomi.eu ROM zip file to the Download folder. Rebooted to TWRP. This time I just did Factory Reset but without Format Data. Then > Install to install the Xiaomi.eu new ROM. Cleared Dalvik Cache then reboot.
PROBLEM : bootloop. Stuck with the 5G logo forever, waited more than 30 min, no change.
Still have access to recovery TWRP and to bootloader mode. I suppose this is a soft brick?
I did > Wipe, Swipe to Factory Reset + Format Data, restarted… no change.
Copied this time the Xiaomi.eu ROM to a clean formatted (FAT32) USB drive. As shown in some tutorials, you can us an external USB drive via USB OTG to install the Custom ROM via TWRP.
Factory Reset + Format Data, then I installed again the same Xiaomi.eu ROM from the external USB. Still stuck in bootloop.
Please I need help to fix the problem
I’m not an expert developer, but I’m not a complete noob either.
This is the first time I have troubles with a brand new Xiaomi Phone.
It’s the first time I get a very expensive phone, but had no choice (they are getting very expensive), because I always buy a Flagship Xiaomi to get all the community support possible.
And I had to change the ROM to Xiaomi.eu, because the Official Global ROM is full of bloatware I had a good experience with Xiaomi.eu ROMs with my old Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 5.
At this point I don’t mind going back to stock MIUI Global ROM.
I suppose that with access to boot loader I can flash the Official ROM from PC with MiFlash2020-3-14-0? If it’s the case can somebody show me detailed steps to do that?
For Mi 10 Official Global there is the Stable Full ROM (miui_UMIGlobal_V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM_4f986c08cb_10.0 ) (2.45 GB) and Stable ROM (umi_global_images_V11.0.2.0.QJBMIXM_20200328.0000.00_10.0_global_09b168ff9e) (3.76 GB). Which One to flash from PC with MiFlash?
I can’t afford to hard brick the device
Thank you very much.

Hello,
i have a silly question about step 4:
someone says we should "Wipe Data", someone says we should "Format Data" ,
i don't see a real difference unless we want to change the filesystem type.
Advices ?
And also, when we format ( or wipe ) the "Data" partition, are we formatting the 256 GB partition ?
if yes, this is a really huge drawback for us who want to change ROM more frequently than other android users, because we have to backup a 256 GB partition ...
This is not fast to do online ( at least with my poor connection ) and it is not fast to do on PC or on a USB KEY.
So we have 256 GB and we need to format at each ROM change ? Too bad ...
In the good old times i did extract my microSD card and i was safe .
Someone could explain me please ?
thank you all for your patience...

Hello,
You have to format data the first time you flash xiaomi.eu rom because their rom is base on Chinese firmware (if you don't or just wipe it will not boot)
Each time you will flash a rom with different base (from Chinese base to global base or global to Chinese) you will have to format data !!
You format data to remove encryption.

Hello,
I tried to flash the latest miui 12. I followed all the steps...
But now I can't acess recovery nor rom.
Basically when i try to flash TWRP with bootloader it just goes back to fastboot.
Also note that the flash is successful. But I somehow can't acess TWRP, just goes back to fastboot
And when I flash the experimental TWRP on the dev thread it boots to recovery but asks for a password.. Impossible to flash anything.. Even after I formated data and everything
I tried flashing other TWRP I found but nothing boots even after trying a lot of time.
I tried <fastboot boot recovery.img> as well
I tried <fastboot erase recovery> and then flash the TWRP as well
I've been trying hard for the last 8 hours.
I also have a backup of when I had MIUI 12. But impossible to flash it with the only recovery I can boot to.
I feel so desperate. I'm out of ideas.
If you have any ideas, I'm listening
Thanks for the help guys.

When I try to flash TWRP recovery in fastboot mode using my PC, it successfully flashes and boots into the TWRP recovery. TWRP does not ask for any password for decrypting the files, and when I go to install>sdcard then the storage is all in random letters, completely unrecognizable.
I have tried a lot of tutorials on youtube but none of them worked. I tried flashing the latest version of TWRP, didn't work. I tried formatting all data and rebooting back into recovery mode, didn't work. (if you reboot to system after installing TWRP, the phone automatically deletes TWRP and the next time you open recovery mode you just get the default MI recovery, and you have to flash TWRP again to open TWRP recovery.) I tried almost everything on the internet but none of it worked. Is there any way I can make it ask for the decryption password? or have my files decrypted? I just need the TWRP for a one-time-use to install a custom ROM. I don't need it to be installed permanently, but no problem even if it does get installed permanently. I just want my custom ROM.
Please help
does that work?:
Boot into twrp, then
Code:
adb shell
twrp decrypt myPassword
(myPassword is your user password)

Okay, interessting. What's the exact error?
However, since you only want to use twrp to flash a custom OS, you could try to boot twrp (without flashing)
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
and then wipe data via twrp and then install your custom OS. You can use sideload which should be located under "advanced" I guess.
Code:
adb sideload myCustomOS.zip
EDIT: Don't boot out of twrp before sideloading, since your os should encrypt everything again after wiping which makes it unpossible for twrp to decrypt again (at least in your case, since it failed for some reason).
If you booted out of twrp, just wipe again and then sideload.
the correct and recommend way to install TWRP is
Flash TWRP
Erase userdata partition <~ it's important to do this as soon as possible since booting your device would just encrypt everything again
Format userdata partition
by doing this you would be able to access data partition files and folder would not be random letters.

Sorry for the late reply. Earlier i just gave up on installing the custom ROM and continued with my stock from. Today a tried again, installed TWRP and turns out it is not showing random letters now. its all regular storage. i didn't even do anything to decrypt it lol it just fixed itself. Now I will install the room myself. Thank you for your help though
Ah sh** here we go again. So i installed the custom rom successfully and everything worked fine, the TWRP too. but when I tried to flash a magisk patched image (the image that I used to root my phone in MIUI) then it got stuck in the boot screen. I had to flash the stock fastboot rom again.. And as expected from my piece of **** that xiaomi calls a phone, TWRP will show encrypted folders, and does not ask for a password. Same problem. Rooted my phone again, using the magisk root image, and it worked like usual, the phone rooted. Now i am stuck again in this bs. I guess I will wait for about 4-5 days and continue using the phone like normal. Maybe it will work again this time. I will try your method here first

Okay i tried wiping the data, cache and dalvik but it shows a huge essay of "error opening xxx/xxxx" in red text. Data wipe failed.
See you after like 4-5 days... hopefully
Update. I finally found a solution. It took literal hours of experimenting to find this.
-Flashed the fastboot ROM of the phone
-Rooted the phone by flashing magisk patched image
-Flashed Inception kernel via FK kernel manager
-Rebooting after flashing the kernel, It will get stuck in a black screen with no text whatsoever (probably a bootloop)
-Installed TWRP (This time TWRP does not show encrypted letters), Wiped all data, Transferred the custom ROM zip to the phone (while in TWRP) and flashing the rom
-The rom is flashed successfully. On the first reboot you get greeted with another bootloop. Fortunately the phone booted into TWRP. This time the folders are encrypted again.
-Successfully wiped the data (advanced>wipe data). No errors in data wiping this time.
-A fully working Corvus OS setup appears on rebooting.
I think the whole TWRP problem was fixed by the custom kernel. Anyways I am finally done with this now. You probably enjoyed seeing all this xD

I like that you keep trying and finding a solution, even though you had to invest hours to make it work!
Let's hope it will work if you update the OS though – I'd actually suggest a backup of all of your data before you do an update in the future, just to be safe!

tell me how to turn off a smartphone with a non-working sensor?
you can still use adb push command from pc to transfer files to your phone :
adb push "nameoffile" /sdcard
(place the file in your adb folder) I was able to root a phone that had this issue using this technique.
I think u should flash dm verity becoz when i flashed the rom and flashed dm verity it worked fine

Dead after reboot.

i have used my phone and all was fine, but i wanted to reboot it and something went wrong. first it has stuck in boot loop, i waited ~10 minutes and tought it'll boot but no, then i tried enter a Recovery (twrp) and it just doesnt want to boot even in recovery. So i went to fastboot and flashed a new verion of twrp, but it still won't boot. All the times when i have been stuck in a bootloop i just cleared caches wia twrp and phone booted fine but now i really doesn`t know what i can do to rescue it and not lose my data. So maybe there is a way i can wipe caches without accessing the recovery menu? =(
if i force bootloader to load from fastboot it throws me back into a fastboot.
Poco x3 nfc (surya) Android 12 Pixel Experience (official from their website)
also i have tried alot of recoveries ( bunch of twrps, 3 orange foxes, PE recovery) no one works, TWRP&OF just hangs on splash screens and PErecovery is just a black screen. i just have no clue what do i do. i can try flash rom from a fastboot but then i will lose all my data.
i have no much knowlege about logging in android, here is adb logcat https://pastebin.com/6bSFURBM

You can flash fastboot ROMs on Linux with fastboot and adb tools
or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-linux-miflash-for-linux.3708847/

Start by format data, miflash can do it.(will erase the data and create a new partition if necessary).
And use this TWRP https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=318270
just flash stock rom with miflash and select save user data and done, will flash the entire rom without lose your personal data
