Getting back to full stock. Ocean_UHL 2.33.401.19 RUU ?? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hello guys!
After giving LeeDroid a chance I decided that I do not like it and flashed the nandroid backup through TWRP. Everything works great, except that I still have TWRP installed so I cannot receive OTA.
In the RUU Collection spreadsheet there's no 2.33.401.19 RUU , only 2.33.401.10. I need that version because that is the main version that I get with getvar. Also the CID is HTC_034.
My question is: is there any way to flash the stock recovery so I can receive OTA? Or is there any 2.33.401.19 RUU available so I can reflash everything back to stock?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the link but unfortunately only 2.33.401.10 is available there. Btw, can a nandroid backup with a higher version than my main version be flashed?

Yes you can but it's recommended backup rom o data before flash this rom or a clean install

2.33.401.19
I've got the same cid as you, got s off, I flashed 2.33.401.10 by sdcard method then updated to 2.33.401.19 by ota , it worked fine, you loose ur su & custom recovery, which then allows it the ota

Thats great! But Im S On. Do I need S Off to flash an older version? I actually do not know how to get S Off, I know about Sunshine but Im not going to pay 25$ for it.

Downgrading s on is possible
There is a method with s on , but I've never tried it personally https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....owngrade-htc-u11-oreo-to-nougat-t3754481/amp/ but I would downgrade it to 2.33.402.10 istread of the version it recommends, I didn't like paying for it but it makes things slit easier in my experiences

Meh I wont risk it with S On. I think Ill just wait for my main version RUU or a newer version nandroid when it comes. Thank though.

2.33.401.19
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=281565 worth a look on this page m8

I downloaded untouched twrp from the Google spreadsheet, restored it then flashed stock recovery (2.33.401.19 stock on Google spreadsheet) when I was in the same position on 2.33.401.10 and there were no ruu zips available , it allows me to update. I just done it again on 2.33.401.19 cid034 as well, I know you used to able to flash older HTC backwards with s on from memory card method if it was a minor update the first 9 digits being identical, haven't had the bottle to try it tho lol

I can confirm that this worked for me I was 2.31.617 and downgraded to 1.28. It worked like a charm. I am back on viper Oreo rom now. I was curious if it would work and it does. No s- off needed. Us version unlocked!

I done it m8, sdcard method, works fine I'm on cid034, download from the Google xda sheet, I updated it back to 2.33.401.19 afterwards via HTC ota, Had no problem no bypasses when flashing (2PZCIMG.zip) from my sdcard , I believe it worked because it was only a partial update and not a downgrade in software (only version) . At least now I know I have no problem going to Pie when we eventually get it

So you say that you flashed full stock 2.33.401.10 over 2.33.401.19 and it worked??

[Q] What happens with root?

Hello XDA members
I was wondering, when the new android sandwich comes out, and you got a rooted and S-off HTC sensation. But not custom rom. What will happen to the root and S-off when you update to the new android sandwich?
Thanks
Want to know too ahehhe
We'll lose root but keep S-OFF I'd imagine
Cool, thanks for the answer
I have perm-rooted my Sensation and i was wondering when the new official update from HTC comes out will i be able to install it automatically like when i was not rooted or because i am S-Off it will not let me?
Thanks
i could be wrong but no you wont be able to perform an ota update. im only saying this because the last ota update failed because the update looks for the stock recovery in order to update the system. seeing that you are rooted i assume you have cwm installed and if this ota update does indeed look for the stock recovery than it will fail. the only way around this is to either instal a stock ruu and lose root or instal the stock recovery and again lose root. either way you are gonna lose root.
Could you give me a link where there is a guide to install the stock recovery?

Depends. If you're just running the original rom which came on your phone but rooted, it should still allow ota updates, but you'll lose root (but keep s-off). If you're on a custom rom you won't receive an ota.
To OP, if you ran an ruu or ota of ice cream sandwich, as eddy says, you'll lose root but remain s-off. That said, a custom ics rom will probably come out weeks/months before an official HTC update
Well, when we got the RUU, we can extract and repack to our rooted ROM
It should be this if i am right ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559

That's true, but we'll see aosp ics roms long before we have sense skinned ones, as cyanogen et al don't need to spend months porting frameworks.

Yes I am running the stock rom so I will receive the pta update. I know that I will lose root in every scenario if I install the stock ROM one way or another.
Thanks.

So i just flash one of these roms, without deleting cache or doing a reset ?
not entirely true. i was rooted on stock rom when the last ota rolled out. i tried installing it but it failed. i did a lil search here and found a few people mentioned that it failed due to cwm and they also mentioned that you should try flashing back the stock recovery. i tried that and it installed successfully. easy way to get the stock recovery is to instal the correct ruu of your rom. but as we all know it wipes out everything off your phone. i did find this guide which the stigx has asked for (sorry buddy didnt see you there ) which shows you how to extracted the stock recovery off of the ruu and than flash it back to your phone.

But if I need to follow your guide i have to have the OTA update file,w hich haven't comet out yet. What do i Do? It seems so hard to remove root and custom recovery :'(
But thank for your answer !
well the general idea is to get your stock recovery back without losin your data. so really all you need to do is flash your stock recovery reboot your phone and check for updates. if updates are available: system>about phone>check for updates, download the update and install. it shouldnt fail cause you have stock recovery instead of cwm. in short just do the top part of the guide and skip the rest cause you dont have the updates file on your computer.
So if i do step 1-12 I will have normal phone? Just like I started or do i still keep root?
Thank you so much for your hep !

yes you do 1-12 but you keep root. the only difference is that you will no longer have cwm for flashing, back up, and all other goodies. but once you run the ota and it installs you lose root.
but have a look at the link frederikh just posted. seems alot better than the current method. im reading over it now
Thanks for the answers!
I think i will go with the link frederikh gave me But God bless you Divine! Thank you for your help !

[Q] Can i use Nand backup of stock to restore and then update firmware?

hello XDA,
im currently running cleanrom 4.0 (amazing rom btw) . before i flashed any roms i made a nand backup of stock 1.73. if i went ahead and restored that backup would i be able to go ahead and run an OTA update then re-root / re-unlock if needed? i know i can install the RUU but if restoring the backup could work, itd make it easier lol. im not planning to do this, but i am wanting to find out just in case and for the future. thank you for your time

You mean returning to rooted 1.73 with custom recovery, not returning to stock.
If you really want to return to stock (but BL still unlocked, of course) its much easier to run the RUU.
Also, if your intent is to update to "official" later build (like 1.85) you are better off running the RUU, or a pre-rooted recovery-flashable version. OTAs are just patches, not a clean install, and usually cause more problems then RUU. Restoring from scratch is not that hard (especially with Titanium) and you will be better off in the long run.

Just got this phone, and have a few questions about rooting.

Hey guys, ive just bought one of these and its on 4.4.2. Its not giving me a notification for the lollipop OTA, but the HTC sync software says there is one. Now my question is, Should I root and unlock bootloader before doing the update or after? Which one would be a less time consuming process? Also, are there any methods of unlocking the bootloader without using the sunshine app? I guess ill pay if i have no choice, but ill have to wait till next month before i have the money to do so and im itching to remove this godawful verzion bloat. One last thing, i bought the phone from a reseller in India, and am using it on a GSM network currently, but will use it with a CDMA one in future (its working now, tested on 2 CDMA networks). I just want to make sure that updating will not stop it from working with Indian CDMA.
You can use the weaksauce method. Then I would flash the 5.1 lolliGPE ROM. Its a well-developed rom.

Hey,
Just rooted m8 verizon.
They only thing which is actually works right now it Sunshine.
You can purchase it for 25$ from here:
http://theroot.ninja/
After that, you download SuInstaller, then restart the phone.
Then - install from google play "SuperSu" app.
Enter it, choose - "normal", wait a few secs.
Thats it. You have permanent root.
Good luck, mate

MUCH easier to do on 4.4.2! Run Sunshine - bingo.
On 5.0.1 (and only the earlier version 4.17.605.5 - not on the latest update 4.17.605.9, you have to downgrade to .5 to get S-Off at all) you have to jump through quite a few hoops with King Root for Sunshine to gain root long enough to S-Off.
S-Off NOW.
Then update every which way you like: OTA if you didn't change anything else, flashing a RUU or just the 5.0.1 firmware and a corresponding ROM - your choic

Thanks! S-off now and a 5.0 ROM seems to be the way to go!
5.0 ROM or 5.0 OTA if you don't mind the VZW bloat. I have been putting off loading a ROM on this replacement unit because I very much like Sense and I'm waiting for some stable Sense7 ROMS that don't have a bunch of VZW caveats. Dottat has a stock ROM and a stock debloated ROM which is pretty ok.
You basically just have to pick Sense or GPE or AOSP, once you're S-OFF you really can't go wrong unless you are hasty or don't read instructions.

There's not one released yet. And most of us flashed other things that made it difficult to update. Later I will upload the patched system. Img and firmware zip. So others can have Oreo if they aren't able to update. Only downside is we lose twrp until I make one for 8.0 or someone else does.

Yes I know, you need an untouched System Image. Since you were rooted, uninstalling Magisk and becoming unrooted, it was still touched. Right now there is only one way to take OTA, that is downloading RUU.zip. Placing it on SDcard and booting to download mode. You will also need to have a 32Gb SDcard as mode will not see the zip. Once you are completely stock you can take the OTA.

For me and others with magisk installed it didn't worked out. Flashed stock boot, but something else seemed to be triggered...needed to flash ruu and take backup with twrp of the system_image and vendor_image in case something goes wrong again . Leedroid fixed it with those backups

The OTA failed for me also. I am also having trouble flashing an RUU. Can anyone point me to one? A guide would be great too as I am sort of a noob.
I have tried everything...asked everywhere.... Nothing at this time. I would love a guide.....nothing yet.
I am going on a few days with little sleep but can someone clarify why we need the OTA and can't just flash the firmware once available?

You got a device with permanent S-OFF? Flashing back boot seams to work on those, but on S-ON/unlocked devices with temporary S-OFF another partition seems to get tempered and checkt later on during the OTA process. Don't know which on, but all S-ON devices, that had been unlocked and rooted up to now had to RUU back to take the OTA successfully. Applies to such fellow members as @LeeDroid as well. So I'm wondering what you did different to all those affected.

No I have a regular production device. Just like normal, I don't use Xposed and never mounted system RW so just flashing back the stock boot img worked fine for me...same as on previous devices. One other possibility is my device shows status official (sunshine does that), maybe the ota update is checking that.

Well that might be it. Will run sunshine and test again, as soon as I got time and restored the software state back to official.
Edit: hope I understood correctly. SunShine does temp S-OFF and set the flag back to official from modified in the same step, right @beaups!?

When running Sunshine, is the Software changing from Modified to Official a temporary thing as well? Or lets say i run Sunshine once will it always display Official when booting to bootloader/Download mode?

Finally flashed an RUU. used this guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/u12-plus/how-to/collection-htcu-u12-ruu-firmware-t3794664
post 3 number 1 (sd card method) must have <32gb micro sd. It wouldnt allow me to flash through USB. IDK why.
The RUU came from here

in process of installing OTA and it is working.

Thank you! Unfortunately my SD Card is 64GB so it isn't going to work...
