Hi,
I dropped my phone from about 4 feet onto carpet, the phone was in a Spigen Hybrid case and survived the fall with no damage. The "S Pen" though decided to fly out and break exactly where that line in after the "Samsung" logo...
It probably fell at that exact right angle to fly off but man it is frustrating that I'll have to pay 50$ for a replacement pen...
Are there good alternatives to the "official" S-Pen?
Nope, sorry... if you want the bluetooth functions, it's the only one of its kind, supercapacitor and all...

At least in EU the price is around 25euro, so it's not that bad.
I strongly suggest you buy a replacement from their official store online. Lot of bad replicas out there. I've lost an S-Pen before and I bought one from Samsung directly. No regrets.

Yes go for an official replacement I broke my Note 8 s-pen on week before trading it in for the Note 9 ... 3 different pens from Amazon were fake nibs couldn't be replaced

Even worse, the fake pens in general do not provide pressure sensitivity.. This is one product that you definitely do not want to be fake...

If you dont mind carrying an extra, try the official Tab3 spen from Samsung. I love it and use it all the time. Leaving the always detect spen feature on hasn't changed my battery life either.

Hey, I actually have the same one that I use when I'm at home. The bigger size makes for easier long-term use when I'm playing a game.
For some reason I feel note 9 S-pen is too fragile and will easily break when i'm trying to find the damn button to mostly erase notes as it's placed little below center at weak breakable point.
It's only $30 on Samsung.com

I reckon it'll be expensive to replace too, the note 1 screen and digitizer cost $220 before being replaced.... And that was only about 1/2 the size of the 10.1....

But only digitizer is cracked, not the LCD which is expensive. I found that they're around 60$.
But the digitizer for tab 10.1 is much cheaper, that's why i want to replace with it.

no, i haven't disassambled it yet.
The trouble is, with most screens, that the digitiser is glued to the screen and is a major mongrel to get off without damaging the LCD... The note 10.1 has a wacom digitiser in it so I'd assume that would put the price up...
I remember there was someone in the note forum that said he had replaced the digitiser but it was not for the lay person to do. Most people who tried tended to break the LCD and then had to fork over the $220 anyway. Plus the postage, most coming from China, could be 2 - 3 weeks long....

digitizer replacement
I will be swapping the glass on my n8013 shortly and I'm wondering if anyone else has had any success with the less expensive lenses available on eBay. It seems that gtab 1&2 digi's are the same part (yes they are serviceable without melting the glue and prying the glass off) and several of the listings I've seen claim n8000-series compatibility as well. Other listings advertise that they are only for the 8000 series; this may just be marketing, as they appear to be the same part and the same price (almost all are $40-50 except the some that list tab 1 compatibility, as low as $25 for these).
My question is: i know the note uses a "dual digitizer" for more accurate tracking, etc. Am I going to lose accuracy with another digi? Does anyone know how the guts of this thing are designed, will the lens not make a big difference? Or do these parts actually come with the dual digitizer built in? I know these eBay digi's will fit but I don't want my Note to suck at doing Note things, haha
ANY input on this matter is appreciated
Personly I wouldn't risk it. I know that the spen can't be used as a pointer on the tab and tab 2. How much of that is due to the glass itself, I don't know but if you go the cheap way, you may find your s pen no longer works.
To me, it isn't worth the risk, but if you do it, let us know how you got on.

Hi,
It happened to me once, about 2 months ago...
Euro GT-N8000, ITALY
I bought the replacement digitizer for the GT-N8000 from a store in California for around 70$.
I managed to cleanly open the tablet (I followed a video from yuotube) only to find that the replacement digitizer was a couple of mm too big.
Obviously it didn't fit...
At the end I had to send that tablet to a local Samsung service, and I had to pay 250 € to get it fixed. They replaced the digitizer, the lcd panel and the metal body.

Wow that is almost the price of a new one now
success!
Ordered the Note 8000 8010 8013 replacement digi from ebay seller Gadgetfix in California. Unfortunately I didnt order one with the matching grey border around the screen, my new one is black instead but I dont mind. I opened the Note and carefully proceeded to dismantle it, taking extra care with the shards of glass that were stuck in the screen bezel with adhesive. After reassembly and turning it back on with my fingers crossed, it works perfectly! S pen, airview, hover, all 100% functional, and no issues with sizing, etc. I checked the part numbers on the original and replacement and they seemed to match up, although they were off by a digit or two, presumably because of the difference in color. Note: I made sure to buy the model that ONLY listed compatibility with the Note line, and didn't have model numbers listed for any of the Tab series (those were about $25 and mine was $45).
Anyway, I now have a clean-looking, fully functional , killer tablet and it only cost me an extra $45 and some sweat to fix my glass . Pics to follow.
In other news, had this Lifeproof Frè for about a month now and I love it. I've always had name brand cases but this is my first Lifeproof. I'm really impressed with the quality and overall look and functionality. The the protection is second to none. Not to mention the IP-68 rating doubles the phones water resistance. All that said, I didn't mind paying an extra $30 compared to my usual case (otterbox defender). I think it was a great buy.

I just talked to life proof and was told this is a known issue and they stopped selling them until they fix it. They will send me a replacement once they figure the echo issue out. Yes I will have to mail it back after I get my new one.
If they stopped selling them maybe they should take down the ability to order one on their webpage until they have it fixed??

It was down for awhile. Said "out of stock" i just checked their site now and you can order one now. i just wonder if the ones at best buy have the echo issue. Kind of tired of waiting for cases. lol. I have the otterbox preserver case and i hate it. Flies apart if you drop it from > 5 feet.
I'm not sure on how many of you have gotten your hands on the new note 5, I did today with the note 5 and the note 5 edge. Some interesting decisions Samsung went with, not going to lie it's like an oversized S6. No removable battery, no SD card slot. They changed the s-pen up with adding a lot of new features. However the edge model doesn't get a built in slot like the normal version. I'm interested on all of your thoughts!

Sigh, I feel like Samsung slapped us all. The stupid critics who kept on bleating it feels like cheap plastic WILL NOT be purchasing it. They will stick to their iphones and still be bleating about it.
Not sure if I'm going to purchase the oversize s6 with stylus. How will you replace a battery on it when it goes bad? I'm on my third oem battery purchased from sprint. Why because I use my device all day long. It has replaced my laptop.

FWIW, I've purchased several supposed samsung / OEM ones from various third party sellers that are close, but have never got one that is a true OEM. Same applies for other Note models.
The best ones have legitimate looking packaging, supplies, etc. One of the tells is that they often lack a number under the China / Vietnam stamp. Another is that they sometimes don't stay put in the pen slot and fall out.
The main issue with these is that they don't have much pressure sensitivity, which matters to me as I like to play amateur artist on my Notes. Compared to an OEM Note 10.1 2014 pen (1024 levels of sensitivity), the knockoff Note 4 pens have much less range (should have twice as much, 2048 levels). In fact, they even have less than my old tablet PC Wacom pens (which have 256 levels and are compatible with the Notes). If I were to guess, I'd say the 3rd party Note pens average 128 levels of sensitivity. I have even bought a Note 7 pen (should be 4096 levels) that came in packaging and everything but performed like this.
Otherwise, they work fine and should be perfectly adequate if you are just using them for notes, navigation, etc. Very rarely a really cheap knockoff won't have removable tips and only has like 4 levels of sensitivity, but those are less common these days. Even those ones tend to have the samsung logo and are generally sold by people claiming OEM.
I wouldn't pay top dollar for one unless I was getting it directly from samsung. I am currently doing my drawing with a Note 5 pen I bought from them (on sale for $20 last I checked), which unfortunately doesn't register as docked when in the pen slot but otherwise works great. If I weren't drawing I would use one of the several close knockoffs I paid from $4-$12 for on eBay and Amazon.
I just got 2 of them from the eBay link. They both work great. The button works, hand writing mode works well, it fits snugly in the phone and the phone knows when it’s docked. I’m pleasantly surprised since they were only $4.00 each. FYI the eBay seller says they're used and may show it but they look brand new to me.
Thanks, Geno
Assuming it's ok to share items for sale here???
I purchased this battery from eBay a few mos ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-High-Q...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
And then broke my Pixel-C screen before I could install it
The seller is in China and has reduced his price to $28. I paid $35 for mine.
I'll sell if for $25 including shipping to any location in the US. Pls let me know if you're interested.
I also have a near-new Pixel C metal keyboard that is in perfect condition and a leather folio keyboard in excellent condition.
Will sell each for $25 (including shipping)
If you want both keyboards and the battery, I'll sell for $60 including shipping.
Can send photos to any prospective buyers who want them.
I installed one of these batteries, they're legit. Hard to install but doable!

Like I said in your thread, the hardest and sketchiest part is getting the screen off, that job is already half done for you. The actual connectors inside the device are pretty easy to deal with if you've ever repaired a tablet/phone.

I know Samsung is having some decent deals on their tablets. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is available for a decent price if you are able to trade in a newish phone, or tablet, but even without the trade-in its still at somewhat reasonable price for performance.
I did not want an iPad or a Samsung tablet so I went for a Pixel C, I dont regret the decision but I do wish there was something else Android. I dont like the idea of either an expensive Samsung that probably will be difficult or impossible to install another rom on, or some complete trash no name from Amazon.

After researching around theres not to many options or companies making tablets seems the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S5e are the only 2 with rom or LineageOS support that I can find. The S5e seems to be a bit more powerful offering a 6mb ram version and has official LineageOS support the Tab S6 Lite is the cheaper budget tablet but offers the pen and offering only Unofficial LineageOS.
I'd love to be able to upgrade and get the new Galaxy Tab S7 or S7+ the top of the line tablets out now but no rom support out at all from what I see ?
The Pixel C is a bit old release date was 2015 I could just buy another one super cheap on ebay but think maybe its time to get something newer at this point?
