Hi,
I would like to replace my HTC One M8 with a second hand OPO.
I keep reading about problems with this device, mainly the yellow screen issue.
If I am to buy this device, I would like to make sure it isn't suffering from these issues.
How can I try to reproduce the yellow screen issue? Can I check if the device is suffering from it in a 10 min overview?
Also, what else would you have me check for before I can commit?
Thanks in advance for your quick responses.
D.
You will notice if it has the yellow tint in 30 seconds. Mine has considerably diminished over the course of a month. Aside from it I find nothing to fault in this device.
Mine disappeared with in a few days of use. And i have htc one m8 Also and never touched it since I got a oneplus one so yes its worth the upgrade
Thank you both.
So you don't experience any of the problems on this forum?
It seems like every time I log in there's a new thread with different problem ?

If you have a HTC m8 i would pass and get a N6. No point in buying an already old device at so a few time before the next nexus.
I have problems with the touchscreen. OP is going to fix them with the new touchscreen firmware but i've read on some threads that the fix isn't 100% resolutive...

Touchscreen problem solved with the last update from franco kernel r17 my friend
The speakers on the M8 are SO much better than the OPO too, but that's an obvious point!

I know! I haven't already tried the patch so I was not telling wrong info, glad it is sorted out anyways!
Btw the n6 thing is still legit and I would think about it ! Next Google phone will also have a smaller screen which is better imho

Well, if you're not having any issues, there's no need to start a thread...So yes, of course you see allot of threads from people with problems
Most of us have no problems whatsoever though.
I personally have allot of friends who own this phone and none of us have the yellow screen issue.

Yep, I agree. Only the people with problems are whining.

The yellow band does not go away, it comes and goes in varying degrees. I'm not sure what makes it change, I'm thinking temperature. Anyway, I should know as I've bought 4 four OPO's so far I still have my original from mid July that I gave to my bro, sold one for profit, returned a faulty one, and currently have a new one for myself from mid August. The one from July still has the yellow band nothing's changed, but the one from August is almost unnoticeable and is the best one so far. You never know what you're gonna get from OnePlus, their quality control is atrocious, but you have options. If you don't like it, you can sell it for a small profit, or you can compromise and keep it since it's still pretty damn good for $350.
I had the yellow thing but its gone lol
I'm in the same boat as the OP, I have an M8 Dev Edition converted to GPe.
The more I see the endless customizations the opo has to offer, the more I want one.
It is the number of unique problems that I am concerned about. I realize this is a troubleshooting forum, but it feels like there's a new bug for every phone they sold ?
I came from an iPhone 5s to an Xperia Z2 to the OPO and its fantastic, what you read regarding problems are just a minute % of the people who owns the device that are experiencing problems, this is true for EVERY single device. The majority however are probably not experiencing any issues are are oblivious of any issues. The issues i had was the multi-touch issue and battery drain issue which was resolved with firmware 33R, i also have the yellow band at the bottom of the screen but if i hadn't read about it i wouldn't have noticed it that's how inconspicuous it is.

Yes, think its going to be firmware xxx36R or something in that line, this is great news for everyone who still had touch issues after 33R. For me 33R fixed the touch issue almost completely but i always welcome updates even if only for the smallest bug fixes so i cant wait.:fingers-crossed:

Awesome ! I hope this get merged into the latest CM11s (36R ?)build before they release it !

Hi there,
(Im opening a new thread as the old one was completely off the topic of the original post)
So on CM11S, my phone screen was working fine. After the CM12S update, my phones screen sometimes doesn't respond correctly when I go to unlock my phone with the unlock pattern. (The timing of the update and the problem occurring may just be coincidence) Its as if holding your finger on the screen isn't registered as staying on the screen, its like the phone thinks I am lifting my finger off and reapplying it very quickly, I cant draw my unlock pattern and unlock my phone. It also affects the 'swipe down' I must do to get the unlock pattern prompt.
If I restart my phone, it usually fixes the problem. Although in the past few days, it has started happening more frequently and sometimes restarting the phone doesn't solve the issue. It is becoming more of a frustration now because of how frequently I have to restart my phone just to unlock it.
I first believed that using a glass screen protector was the problem, I thought the glass was causing ghost touches, so I removed my glass protector and replaced it with a film protector, at first it seemed that this was the problem, but I have just encountered the problem again. I'm not sure if its a hardware or a software issue, because restarting the device is fixing the problem most of the time, but its also switching off all power to the digitizer during a reboot so I cant tell what is the culprit.
I've opened a support ticket with OnePlus but it says it can be up to 10 days before I get a reply, I figured I'd post here too to see if anyone else has had similar issues or even found a fix.
Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem
I was having the same issue, although I never updated to CM12S. Instead, this happened to me when running Exodus Lollipop ROM and the SlimLP ROM. Since then, I have switched to Paranoid Android Alpha2 and have not had the issue recur in the last few days running PA. So to me it seems like a software glitch in many of the Lollipop ROMs. Try PA if you like and see if it's fixed.
welcome to ghost touch
google "oneplus one ghost touch" and join the hundreds of other known cases
I had a feeling this was the ghost touch issue, but my phone hasn't really had actual ghost touches, its just that most of screen stops working. I've got a few videos of it happening. First the screen goes a bit unresponsive, then after a short while, about 1/3 of the screen is completely unresponsive, I switched on show touches in development options and you can see that from the middle to the bottom of the screen there is no response unless I use the very edge on the right side, then it works, its like it has a dead spot. If I reboot my phone, that usually fixes the problem for a while, sometimes up to a whole day, but the problem comes back with time.
I was given a patch by the OnePlus automated support message, and it says my case has been forwarded to a specialist. I have just applied the patch which has rolled me back to CM11, I'm guessing it did more than just that, but the patch and notes don't really explain what it does. Either way, I'm in the process of receiving OTA updates so I can get back on CO12 so I can hopefully restore my data with my ADB backup (never done this before, not rooted my One yet)
Has anyone had any success with this patch?
Thanks
EDIT: So my ADB Backup isn't restoring on my phone. I am using Holo Backup (formerly Simple ADB Backup) and when I chose restore and select the backup, it just show the output for the help command from ADB and then doesnt appear to do anything else. Are there any manual commands to restore my backup or have I done something wrong?
Try going back to cm11s and then check...

Hi there,
So heres an update, I applied the first patch and it rolled me back to CM11S and the issue was still present on CM11S, I then got OTA's back up to CO12 and the issue still happens. I have turned off the off screen gestures and the ambient wakeup thing. It doesn't happen as often but when it happens, 2 restarts are needed to get it running smooth again.
My support ticket with OnePlus has gone quiet and I don't really know what my next step is? I have heard there is a second patch but I couldn't backup properly last time with ADB so I don't know if I want to go through all of the wiping and reupdating again when people report the 2nd patch is also ineffective.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel a bit cheated now knowing that my phone has what I can tell to be a manufacturing defect / hardware issue.
Another update here.
So after a week of silence from the OnePlus tech support, I have a new person handling my ticket and he has told me that I need to apply another display patch. I'm guessing this is the 2nd patch and not this final patch which was mentioned by Carl on Facebook.
Either way, I ran into a problem applying the 1st patch, I couldn't make a proper backup of my phone before I did the patch. I used SimpleADBBackup which I thought would work well but it took a very long time to create the backup and then when I applied the backup back onto my newly flashed phone, It missed many apps, only did app data for a few apps and didn't take any of my pictures or SD storage, so all my SMS and Call log backups were also lost. I would like to take a proper backup this time but I don't know how to do it? I don't trust this ADB backup method, even on the Simple ADB Backup program, it admits that ADB backups are hacky and untested.
I have been trying to use Helium but for some reason, my phone wont get past connecting it to the computer companion app, I have all phone drivers and ADB drivers installed correctly, but helium on the android side cant seem to see the computer app, the computer side of the app says that helium is enabled, but on my phone it is stuck on "waiting for the helium desktop app".
I feel like I'm having the worst luck with this phone, and its frustrating because I really like this phone and this flaw is really getting in the way of using this phone, I counted 8 restarts in one day due to the screen not working.
I hope someone can help me out, I don't want to fully wipe my phone again and I cant seem to back anything up correctly!

I'm not sure if a full solution has been found yet. I read on Facebook that they are working with Synaptics to make a final patch which should solve the issue.
I've given up on trying to backup my phone without root, it just seems impossible to do right. I've just applied the 2nd display patch and got my phone running again, I think I may stay on CM11 and just forget lollipop until this issue gets resolved. I'm pretty sure last time I was on KitKat, the issues were there still but it may be less frequent, who knows?!
Do I have a better chance of seeing this screen issue less on KitKat or should I just update to CO12 for the 3rd time?
Another update here,
I have been instructed and have booked a remote session with OnePlus. I'm guessing they are going to be flashing CO12 or OxygenOS and hopefully some kind of display patch or calibration fix. I really hope this solves my problem, the issue has become a daily occurrence and I have also finally seen a ghost touch, it looked like it was trembling . I really love this phone apart from this issue but it happens way too often to ignore it. Ill post what happens after the session.

Thanks for this, I'm not going to root yet though because I think I'm finally at the stage where I can start the RMA process, I have a new video of the touch screen being unable to maintain a touch and drag gesture, and then another video doing the same action but just after restarting my phone - it works fine after the restart.
During this support session, I was flashed onto Oxygen OS and I really miss CO12 now, so many features that I grew accustomed to are not present in Oxygen. Oxygen does seem quite solid, but I've gotten way too used to all the features of Cyanogen.
Oh well, ill live with it until I get another reply from the support team.
I write with the assistance for 10 posts at today and I declare them to STOP sending me those bug non fixing ROMS/ZIPS...
I will replace by myself the screen (they don't change it in warranty because I've on the frame some dents... )
It's a clear HW issue, on any software, if the display degrade to a "fail stage" you wan't come back never to a total solve situation.
I loved my Oneplus, but they buy some batches of too cheap display, and after some month, I see clearly the results.

Thanks man,
It went well, I have been issued an RMA and will be sending it back soon. Just waiting on the postage label.
Ive just received my new OnePlus One today, very chuffed as it hasn't cost me anything. RMA and Support with OnePlus may be a bit slow but at least they do the right things!
To anyone facing screen issues, create a support ticket and persist with it, it should pay off!

When I press something quickly and not so hard, touch doesn't get recognized. For example when I type in 4 PIN on a lockscreen 1 or even 2 out of 4 touches may not be recognized.
Apps, keyboard - everything has this issue.
Im now trying through different ROMs, official releases and etc to find most stable version of MIUI.
I really hope this is not hardware issue :/ Is there any way to calibrate touchscreen tho?
Does anyone experience same problem? It takes place only when I press not to hard on screen and quickly.
I haven't seen this problem, but I remember having an issue with a recent Motorola phone I tried for work. Removing the screen protector fixed it in that case.

I dont use screen protector yet, stores in my country still don't have them :d
SO I just noticed that problems are gone while I'm in TWRP. Keyboard is dream-like responsive, no random un-responses when I press to quickly and softly. It still recognizes a touch like a charm.
I guess its MIUI than?
They probably means it's kernel/touch driver related. If you have unlocked bootloader you could try the custom kernel. As always be sure it works for the rom version you are on and that you follow directions.

I have the opposite problem to this! If anything my screen is too sensitive, I have to be really careful lifting it or putting it down with the screen on, despite it not being a totally edge-to-edge display (which is one of the reasons I didn't buy a Mate 20 Pro, edge-to-edge looks great, but it's a pain in day-to-day use).
Well this is getting deal breaker for me. Touch is annoyingly unresponsive on latest stable build. Also on latest Beta build.

You got a lemon, this thing is one of the most responsive screens I've ever used. I have an essential phone so I know how bad it must be for you, the touch response on those is the worst I've ever experienced by far.

Depending where you bought it and what ROM you have I'd advise to download a ROM and purge the ROM now because if you are saying that the touch problem is in MIUI something is not right. Just wipe the phone and fastboot new ROM. If this does not fix problem RETURN IT FOR NEW ONE.
Can this happen because of unlocked bootloader?

No.
You are not crazy dude.
Same here.
bought today the European version and, in the first Google wizard, touch was unresponsive for, for example, the next button.
Now I don't have any issue.
So, you are not crazy.
Ps
And no: I'm locked.
Same problem here...
Mine was totally fine, really responsive and nice, up until I installed the MIUI 10.2 Global and now it's ****. Seems to be especially bad in the lower right corner. Seems to be software triggered...
My CN version running Xiaomi.EU rom has no problems with the touch screen or touch sensitivity, been running fine for the past 2 months or so. Also have tried on multiple roms (stock CN rom, CN developer rom, global rom).
Sounds like an issue with the EU/Global version?
I'm on Global ROM and facing same issue.
Same issue here with 256/8GB CN device, I unlocked the phone as soon as I got it and installed Global 10.0.11.0 on it. The touch issue happened when I updated the phone to 10.2 first via the updater. Then i thought it was an issue with dirty flash so I wiped everything via TWRP and did a clean flash. Still the same issue, i even tried the 10.2 EU rom. For now I went back to 10.0.11.0 and there's 0 touch issue.
I have the same issue, is it a software or a hardware issue ??
Was this solved by now or is it still an issue? I'm planning on buying a Mix 3 and this would be deal breaker for me.

Did you do an incremental update or the full OTA? Also, did you wipe the cache after?

Well i dont have problems with the battery and heating anymore... but OOS11 in general is not perfect and i am not sure if this is related to the OP7 version. Like it's still slower than 10... Is this related to OP7 to make people buy the newer phones? Mhhh but who buys from the the same company if OP makes phones obviously slower through updates - Are people so stupid... In 2021 Idk.
What about the Widevine L3 level after 11.0.2.1 update?
Did the update fixed this bug?
In my case it didn't,so i still cant watch HD videos on netflix, despite the fact that the update changelog, reported the above fix for video streaming apps.
Is any of you lucky to have Widevine L1 back?

Since i've updated my phone to 11 i never had issues with L1 on 11 even with unlocked bootloader ... But i lost it for some reason on 10 ... It comes back on 11 but not on 10 anymore. Idk why OnePlus phones have such issues I think since OnePlus is so slow with updates now it won't get fixed any time soon or probably not at all ;/ I personally would not purchase a OnePlus anymore at all. Like i literally bought one cause of their reputition for good software support and they really had in the past even for older phones

For me the problem started after updating to 11.
Whilst being on 10,i never had any issue.
I dont know if it has to do with the rom for a specific region?
Mine now has the 11.0.2.1AA,rom,but when i was on 10,i had the BA version for EU,installed.
After updating to 11,i reversed from BA to AA..maybe this could be the culprit?
The big hirony is that i was interested in buying the 8t,but after all these Oneplus behaviours with the faulty and delayed updates,i stopped thinking of ever giving my money to them, despite the fact that their devices are so good.
Here i have to confirm that my Oneplus 7 is my first device of the company, and i feel so frustrated with that Widevine issue.
Other than that,my 7 is one of the best smartphones i ever had.

If this is still under warranty, might as well take it to the Xiaomi Service Center.
But just FYI, I have installed LOS on my X3 Pro and the time where it suffered a random boot was because there was an app that conflict with the system. Once I remove that app, no more random reboots.

Same problem happened to me as well, and changing the firmware fixed it. I think if you install the recommended firmware version for the ROM you want to download, it will be solved.
I have granted true caller access to pop up during the incoming calls. After that my poco starts to reboot automatically during a phone call and check in the true caller. Then I uninstalled the true caller now. I hope it will be fixed now!

I had the exact same problem, my phone (poco x3 pro) was rebooting randomly every 6-7 times a day. The problem was that the pmic was faulty-broken. After a week the device just froze in a grey screen and that was it. It got hard bricked. So i suggest to do a quick backup if your device is rebooting randomly because... It will brick soon
Ok, I had had this problem as well, the phone was bricked, sent it to service centre and came back after like 2 weeks. That was 9 months ago, now the phone is rebooting automatically as well. I've noticed some things tho, the phone wouldn't reboot if i was using the phone, like watching video, browsing, playing games etc. But it would restart if i kept it standby, i didn't notice it rebooting when i set it to charge, but it would reboot when i plugged it off. One more important thing, the phone won't reboot if i used it on safe mode, i used for like an hour or so, and it didn't reboot(maybe I'll need to check more)
It might be a tough pill to swallow, still, your phone is going to get bricked soon. Ive tired all most all solutions. Be it master reset, trying in safe mode, uninsatlling the recent update, clearing the theme manager. It had a mother board issue, thats y, poco india head extended its warranty from 12 to 18 months even after the production was stopped. you can check the twitter handle.the soc costs about 10.5 k , but the poco ASC are asking not to proceed.better opt for a new mobile.
faced the same issues... phone got bricked finally
