60 fps video on any third-party camera apps? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I've been doing some experimentation with Open Camera and the Google camera app, and I can never seem to get 60 fps video recorded. The OP6 camera seems to downgrade to 30 frames per second in all third-party apps, no matter what settings (resolution, bit rate, fps) I choose. Has anyone managed to get 60fps on this hardware using any third party camera app?

Exactly
While Google cam does such a great job with photos, only the stock camera seems to be able to record smooth videos at 60 fps. It's not the ideal solution, but I'd say just stick with two camera apps on your phone, stock for videos and third party app of your choice for photos.

Damm day i buy this phone...
Offered a F1 to my wife this weekend and already have native 60fps at 4K, and slow camera with 960fps....
Shame on you OP....

[Q] No sound in 1080p @60FPS?

Hey is it true OPO doesn't support sound in 60 FPS or 120 FPS video mode?
i dont think any phone or camera does sound in slow motion.
60 FPS is no slow motion. Other flagships support sound in 60 FPS - SGS 5, Sony Xperia Z2, LG G3, ect.
OPO seems NOT which is huge minus, making camera useless.
60fps is slow motion. its 24 or 30 fps which is normal speed.
Since when recording [email protected] and playing it is slow motion? Have you seen videos @60FPS and understand purpose of recording in this speed over 30?
Jack is right
Guys, it seems you don't know the purpose of 60 FPS over 30 FPS. OK, no problem.
So I explain it to you - 60 FPS give you smooth movies - yes. 30 frames is too low (often) and 60 give you full smoothness.
OPO doesn't record sound in this mod which is ridicolus, so is useless.

dude. shut up. 60 fps is half speed slow motion. move on.
I adise you reading some articles about FPS and impact of movie smoothness, then talking.
Once again for YOU: OTHER flagships DOES SUPPORT sound in @60 FPS mode. So if THEY CAN, why OPO CAN'T it seems.
This is not about slow motion but typical recording.
Flagship killer? BUAHAHAHAH. End of story.
you dont even have the phone. and it sounds like you dont want it either. you dont have anything to add here. just go away.
Listen. You guys aren't understanding each other, you're both kind of right.
If you record at 30fps and play back at 30fps, that is normal, and standard.
If you record at 60fps and play back and 30fps that is HALF SPEED, a type of slow motion.
But if you record at 60fps and play back at 60fps, that is a newer type of smooth playing STANDARD SPEED playback. Less jitters, choppy etc.
Same goes for 120fps etc. It doesn't matter how many fps you record in, it matters how you fast you play it back.
So 60fps recording, played back at 60fps, should have audio.
Let's all just relax here

It's been a while and there has been at least one update... Does anyone know if they do 1080*1920 @60FPS now on the OnePlus One?
I just ordered one a couple of days ago, and am hoping for the best when it comes to camera video updates... I plan on recording in 4K mostly, and downscaling to 1080P to see if that improves the sharpness. 60FPS in full HD might be a tempting alternative though.(Often down-scaling is better than taking an original shot at your target resolution.)

The 60FPS and 120FPS mode in all resolutions are only slow motion still.
I'm also searching for a possibility to record in 60fps.
I really really miss that. Vids look really choppy in 30fps, srsly.
60fps is NOT slow motion. 120fps is NOT slow motion. 10000000 fps is not slow motion.
Recording @ 60fps and playing back at 30fps produces a slowmotion movie, sound cannot be played back this way.
60fps played back @ 60fps produces a (more) fluid experience, without much blend and the brain filling in the missed frames.
30fps played @ 60fps produces a fastmotion movie.

Well I have a Oneplus One and I want 1080/720 @ 60FPS. The lack of this feature is my only disappointment with this phone, everything else is totally fantastic.
For people who don't understand why I want 60fps video then here is my explanation:
Recording at 30fps is okay but as soon as you have anything moving quickly, such as a close car passing from left to right or if you pan the camera, the moving objects become a blur, at 60fps fast motion remains clear. For those who have only ever had 30fps experience you won't understand how important this is, but for those who have had a 60fps experience, you cannot go back to seriously filming anything in 30fps.
It should be possible on the Oneplus one, but I get the feeling the phones firmware currently will not allow this option. I have tried various apps and even written my own specifying 720 and 1080 @ 60fps, but I only ever get sound when 30fps or 60fps no sound.
It's a shame as the hardware is quite capable!

Poor video recording in applications and instagram

Hello good afternoon
I bought the maxx bike about 3 days ago, and it's an excellent cell phone, except for some things that are not optimized like the performance of the battery, which is solved with greenify.
I come from a motorola G1 and Alcatel idol 3, and I am astonished that the video recording on the moto maxx is inferior or similar to the one of these cell phones, I still can not find any app that will benefit you :/
Find an app that really took advantage of the photos, like the bacon camera or the HDR snap camera, but I still can not find an app that makes me satisfied with the video recording :/
Do you recommend any app for video recording?
A query, I occupy many social networks, and I just realized that when I try to record a video in stories is really horrible, it seems recorded in 360p, you know why that happens?
Edit: Here I found people with the same problem https://www.reddit.com/r/droidturbo/comments/57yy4p/instagram_story_camera_quality_on_turbo_1/
Greetings and thanks.
Your answer is in that thread:
I had the same experience with the photos as you described. Videos just look like garbage. FYI I just found out you can upload from your camera roll if you swipe down while in the story camera. I’ll test the quality and see if it is better when taken with the normal camera first.

I have been uploading from the camera roll and have been getting much clearer uploads compared to shooting in the app. I only use the main camera so I can't comment on the selfie camera. I imagine the app just is not optimized for the og turbo's camera. Maybe it will get better but I might have a new phone by then.

DON'T use that app to record your video. Record your video and attach it/upload it through app.

Does the Honor 8 not allow you to take photos while recording video?

That's... Really lame.
My Blackberry could do that. What the hell?
I don't use it often, but it's a great feature.
Geez. Any solution? Can i use a 3rd party camera? Even if can't use both cameras?

idk if it works
There's a camera icon displayed while recording that takes photos when you click it.

No there isn't?
I certainly can't seem to find it.
Probably another "enhancement" to the North American versions.
So Huawei doesn't give a damn about anyone outside China, go figure. Last Huawei device.
Nope, scratch that, I figured it out.
It doesn't happen if you record at 60fps.
Which is another problem, why can we record at 1080p 60fps but not 720p 60fps?
Regardless, can't record at 60fps and take photos at the same time. Super lame.

[APP] FiLMiC Pro - [email protected] FRONT CAMERA / [email protected] MAIN CAMERA VIDEO

So I was looking for a solid video recording app and stumbled across this, if you want a manual video app you will be more than happy as the controls are amazing. To achieve these surprising video setups simply press the settings toggle and select Resolution, bump it all the way up. Make sure the FPS and the playback FPS is at 30 and do not change any of the Exposure/ISO options. Now that is done I have found that in low light conditions the FPS may go down just a bit, around 2FPS, which is not that much off a difference. I have tried different combinations but it seems that 42FPS is the limit for all resolutions which is very sad as we still do not have [email protected] in 2018 . But overall this is amazing, the front camera shocked me the most, it not only unlocked a super high resolution it also comes with a very nice FPS. Some bad things are that the zoom is not very good on the viewfinder at all (but is alright in the actual video) compared to other video camera apps and it does cost alot of money for an app (around $13 USD), but the features it brings make it more than worth it .
I am using Cosmic OS 3.1 Oreo 8.1 unofficial with official Gapps and I haven't tried this on any other ROM.

Well, it is not for everyone. I took the plunge and I have checked my videos metadata and gone through frame by frame to see if their is just duplicates and to my surprise it is true 42FPS with the super high resolution. My friend has a LG V10 and the customization on this camera app is very comparable to his, which is very good. The quality of what this app produces is mind-blowing, it makes any low light shot look super. I know what you mean, this price is way too high for any app, so I would only recommend this app to proper enthusiasts. The typical user wouldn't really care or notice the bumped up pixels and FPS.
I saw 60 fps 1080p in latest Arnova's GCam beta. Did you check it out?

Even of you toggle that option on. Camera records at 1080p 24fps.for some reason...1080p30fps is the limit...Dont really know why and the EIS video recording sucks..Big time...

Terrible gui and there is nothing special with this app. I personally like stock Lineage 15.1 camera or one of Google Camera mods. OpenCamera is also not bad (gui is not beautiful, but easy to use).

Bump up the fps in 4K all the way up to 30fps and make sure the playback speed it the same, record your video with auto exposure, then you can check what real fps output (should be around 45fps in good light) is using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roryhool.videoinfoviewer&hl=en
It should work in Oreo ROMs, but I dont know if it will work on Nougat.

Well so far this Google HDR algorithm is so good, literally no other photo app can compare it it. So what I recommend is BSG's new Gcam, it provides so much customization to get the perfect picture, especially with the new auto shutter speed version - as the Le Max 2 has a limited measly shutter speed of half a second, this is merges photos with the limited shutter speed giving out a much nicer image. Although front camera portraits and HDR have that annoying Green filter, but i mostly use my main camera only so for me this is what I use the most.

Nope. It's worth it for the incredibly smooth zoom alone.
Too much to set the bitrate speed. Therefore the video takes up a lot of space.

Video quality. No Way.

Well, I didn't buy this phone for the camera or the video recording.
But recorded a video using the Gcam app but was totally disappointed by the quality of the sound especially.
I wonder what is your approach in this aspect.
I use cinema fv-5
The camera for recording is very bad for me. Even with EIS enabled, using GCam or whatever. It's not on the same level as the pictures.

Our phone is still plagued by the low light bug. If you want to capture a video in something other than perfect lighting conditions, you might want to go with manual exposure.
I use Footej camera (with camera 2 API enabled) with manual exposure.
I never set shutter speed slower than 1/25, to avoid getting 14fps.
Same thing can be done with Open Camera.
As far as sound goes, I'm one of the lucky ones, no bug there.
Cheers
