Completely disable the notch to have the notification bar back - Xiaomi Poco F1 Guides, News, & Discussion

It seems that google pixel 3 xl have a developer option for it, i wonder if we can see this kind of option in the future for all phones, it would be great, in fact it would fix the notification issues that its currently the mi8 and the poco f1 have because of the notch.
https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/10/10/can-turn-off-pixel-3-xl-notch-developer-options/

Notifications are already being looked at.

Yes, I m also thinking that, poco have very wide notch, even with notification icons beside notch is clumsy..
It would be nice if we can completely disable notch area and show notification under notch.

You can actually already disable the notch on Poco F1 by going to Settings - Full Screen Display - Hide Notch.

the notch implementation by xiaomi its just not good enough, the notification its not working well, and to be honest i rather have the whole extra mm screen disable completely and have that bezel but i can have back all notifications and normal status bar

You should post this on miui forum or tweet to jai mani. Its actually a nice idea. Plus our notch is not giant like pixel 3xl, so it won't be a problem if we disable that part completely!

Ok so i came up with nice idea for fixing that weird hide notch settings, those upper corners looks weird and mismatch with lower corners, but with cornerfly it looks great

I use rounded corners and I have problems pressing the hamburger, search and 3 dot icons. Does cornerfly also have these problems?

I use Rounded Corner app not Roundr. Also Rounded corner app can go up to 115 radius which is a perfect copy of the bottom corners of our device, the only problem is that I have difficulty on pressing icons near the rounded corners.

36 is the most symmetrical right now but not as perfect as 115 on Rounded corner app..

ultimate notch solution —— just return to traditional display disign. hope developers can port this feature to Oreo since Pie don't support Xposed.
on the other way, if there's an double notification bar………

Why people disable NavBar?

Any reasons why people use mods/hacks to disable the navbar permanently? Samsung offers the option to do so, but why u have to disable it permanently?
Gestures navigation is not that smooth & u have to use an app.
Is there any benefits or something I'm missing?

Lol That's pretty funny tbh:laugh:
You have this big beautiful touch screen, why do I want to take up space on the screen (or have it appear/disappear) every time I want to navigate or go to the home screen? I use Gesture Control so that I just have to swipe left/right/up at the bottom and never have to see it...
Looks better and is really cool to have the whole screen.... navigation gestures works pretty well.
It's quite simple really, you get more screen real estate and you don't need to look at the ugly navbar.

How did u hide the navigation bar & what gesture app/mod do u use please? I want something a little smoother than the xda gesture app.

I used to use plasmalite and it was awesome, unfortunately stopped working well under Oreo and it never got updated. Now I use XDA gestures, which is pretty OK, in some aspects better than plasmalite.

Xda gestures works great especially the split pill giving additional swipes. I have some very minor delays with it though, but I can live with it. OnePlus gestures is the best so far, but it's paid.
I tried out XDA's Navigation Gestures (paid version) but find Samsung's One Hand Operation+ more enjoyable.
From the edge screen I simply swipe left to go back, to open recents I swipe up diagonally from the same place and to go home I just press the home button.

Many thanks! I find it smoother than xda gestures, but it doesn't work in landscape mode & immersive games

How to hide the Samsung Galaxy A20's teardrop notch

As you know, the Samsung Galaxy A20's teardrop notch cannot be hidden from the Settings app, but
it turns out the notch can be hidden using the settings command via ADB.
This video explains how to hide the notch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_vS_V-igW8
Go to 3:00.
The result is not as elegant as e.g. the OnePlus 6T's hiding of the notch but it is acceptable.
Thank you.
The notch can be hidden in settings.
Settings -> Display -> Full Screen Apps -> Advanced Settings -> Hide Camera Cutout.

Found it, thanks. Oddly when I searched Settings for "cutout" this option doesn't come up.
Now if there were only a way to move the status bar icons above into the black area, like the OnePlus allows.

Hi, I noticed the same thing, I don't know why they removed that option. Probably you can set it by adb but I don't know how. But you can use an app called Nacho Notch. You just download, open and trigger it in the quick settings.

Go to this oneplus forum page and see post #6. It's a workaround to access the hidden oneplus setting for hiding the notch.

you don't need the Nova Launcher
just, download from the playstore - " Activity Launcher " app by Adam Szalkowski & run it
Settings > notch display etc..

Bad Interface Design

Just got my new Pixel 4XL yesterday and I'm loving it so far. The gesture navigation is really smooth and easy to use BUT the interface around the persistent "Swipe Up" bar at the bottom is terrible and needs to be sorted. It variously cuts into apps or adds entire sections on to the bottom of elements wasting screen real estate. Have a look at the images below. The Google keyboard has an entire section added to the bottom with the little minimize arrow on it. What a waste of space. Apps like Whatsapp just get cut off with a black bar etc. Even Google apps like the App Store and Chrome just get cut off too. The method of cut off varies wildly too which is just bad design and convention. Hopefully this will get sorted over time. All we need is the little bar to be overlaid all the time and persistent.

I understand what your saying. I brought up the same concerns during the Android Q beta however the wasted screen real estate is justified. Firstly the space added to the bottom of the keyboard is to make typing more comfortable, raising it to a typical height. Secondly the gap between the gesture swipe up bar and whatever app your in is for apps and webpages that add tabs to the bottom of the page (Edge and Brave to name a few). I can only be hopeful as the gesture navigation system becomes more widespread, developers will replace that bottom tab system in exchange for something else.
I use this app to remove the bar. All functions and gestures work, and the design inconsistencies are gone!

Nice find! It's pretty neat. It's kinda anoying seeing the Google Assistant curve cut off on the home screen though.
I used to use FNG but when it came to using the keyboard and needing to back out it was a pain in the ass. So I agree with this design for the gestures as it's simple to back out.
Also why do you need more screen real estate with the keyboard open? Imo it doesn't matter when you're typing anyway.

Why do you have issues backing out of keyboard? I just set FNG to work just like Google Gestures, only difference is no bar at the bottom. FNG works with third party launchers, Google gestures do not.

I just want to say thanks for this fantastic post. This saved me from having to look at that jarring, half finished navigation pill on the bottom with the strip surrounding it. Google should have done the same what Apple did and float the bar overtop of content. No extra strip needed on the bottom. Everything is working perfectly.

Question Notification LED

Hi everybody !
When I open the Google camera (Android 13), there is a green dot on the upper right corner of the screen.
Is it a display effect or a real LED ?
Any time an app accesses the camera that green light will appear.

This is a security feature introduced in Android 12:
Whenever an app is accessing your phone’s camera or microphone — even if only in the background — Android 12 will place an indicator in the upper-right corner of your screen to alert you.
When the indicator first appears, it shows an icon that corresponds with the exact manner of access. But that icon remains visible only for a second or so, after which point the indicator changes to a tiny green dot.
So how can you know what’s being accessed and which app is responsible? The secret is in the swipe down: Anytime you see a green dot in the corner of your screen, swipe down once from the top of the display. The dot will expand back to that full icon, and you can then tap it to see exactly what’s involved.
Tapping on any app’s name in that pop-up will take you directly to that app’s permission page, where you can reassess what types of access it does and does not allow.
How to take advantage of Android 12’s new privacy options
