Data recovery broken touch screen - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy A3 with not responding touch screen, hardware buttons work. I would like to copy data from it. As the touch screen does not work I cannot unlock the phone to select data transfer mode. I tried OTG cable with mouse, does not work. Data recovery softwares does not work becasuse I cannot activate USB debugging.
Any ideas how can I recover my data?
Ps: Sorry if it is a doubled thread. I seached for it but did not find anything relevant.

If you can't enable USB debugging and you can't unlock the screen, you might be out of luck.
Your best chance would be to flash TWRP recovery, then use TWRP to create a nandroid backup of everything on the device and then extracting the data that you want to recover from the backup.

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately is not working. Odin is giving a fail error and on the phone: "ODIN: Binary size is to large : recovery"

Frustrated Guy !HELP !

Hello everyone ! I will try to explain my problem as clear as possible, hope it will be solved.
-Samsung galaxy GTi-9300, this was rooted few months ago.
-It was working fine until I uninstalled touchwiz using Nobloat app. Now, nothing besides SAMSUNG appears in the dark screen. I am not able to do anything or see anything else.
-Being smart, I connected phone with pc and opened kies , but pc/kies do not recoginise the device.
-Then tried to unroot the device, where I failed again.
So, my question is how I can install touchwiz in this case? Or any other soloution ?
ps: (there is no micro SD card in device, no back up etc )
Great thanks in advance !
Was your usb debugging turned on? or do you have a custom recovery like clockworkmod or twrp? then you can install a launcher.

I guess it wasn't turned on and custom recovery you mentioned were not installed. But there was Titanium backup installed, if that helps ??
So if you put the device in download mode, does ODIN recognize it? If so, you should be able to restore to stock from there. Your data may be lost though if you are unable to obtain files from the internal storage.

Help - Need to access Note 3's internal data, phone rebooting

Hi,
I've searched and searched, and posted on other forums looking for help. If anyone can help me, I would truly appreciate it.
My mother's phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005) recently updated itself to Android 5.0. This somehow broke the phone, and now it is in a reboot loop. Once the phone starts up, it will reboot itself within a second. I can still run it in "Odin" mode, and in recovery mode. Safe mode doesn't work.
Most people would want advice on how to fix their phone, but I've come to accept that it will need a factory reset/flash. However, I would really like to backup the photos on the internal memory. Is there a way?
I have tried:
1) Deleting the cache;
2) Using Odin tools to load different firmware versions on the phone (4.4.2, other 5.0 versions for different carriers);
3) Safe mode.
Nothing has worked so far. All I want to do is have the phone start up and remain on whilst I plug it into a PC and copy the photos. I'm willing to try anything, so if you have any tips, please share them. If there's anymore technical information I can provide to help, let me know.
Thank you.
If you have installed the TWRP you can try to make a backup and then still via TWRP copy it to the PC by using OTG and TWRP file manager, and then open it

Thanks. I've heard a lot about TWRP but haven't used it yet. The phone isn't rooted but I can hopefully root it and try your method. Can you please elaborate on OTG a bit? Haven't heard of it, but I'll look it up.

Ok, so you can install the TWRP w/o root using odin. The OTG is a specification that allows any device capable of acting as a host (such as a smartphone ) , to communicate with USB devices, and so with OTG you can copy files from your phone to a usb or viceversa. :good:

Broken Screen

Hello guys, my phone dropped today and half of the screen is not working anymore. Also the touch does not seem to work. The problem is I just want to copy my photos to my computer but i cant because of the phone is locked and it needs a pattern password to unlock. Is there anyway without replacing the screen to copy my photos or unlock the phone. Thank you.
Hi,
You can plug an OTG cable and plug in a mouse to work around the touch screen issue. Other possibility is trying to boot in recovery mode to manage the files via USB, though I'm not sure if it would allow you to access internal data using adb or not.
All the best,

Hey i do have the USB OTG and i plugged in a mouse to try to enable the adb debugging but the problem is that i can't see the screen so i am working blindly and trying to 'guess' where i should click.
The thing is i can unlock my phone with the fingerprint, but when i connect it to the computer the files do not show, i believe there is a button i have to click to enable MTP ?
I really can't believe its that hard to copy some files from my phone just because the screen is black
Hi,
Yes there is a button to enable MTP and it is in fact hard to enable it without looking at the screen. Have you tried booting in Recovery to access your files?
All the best,

I need some help recovering data

Hello guys, I was hoping you could help me with a problem
I've managed to screw up my Note 3's display and I want to take out the data from it.
Now when I connect it to the computer I can't switch the phone to MTP because I can't see anything(and I think touch isn't working either)
I wanted to mount usb storage on CWM but I couldn't manage it blindly, for some reason CWM keeps rebooting.
So is there any way I could access my files, maybe there's a recovery that enables MTP automatically or some other solution?
Thanks!

There are quite a few data recovery programs to recover data using your PC, provided touch feature still works and you can unlock the screen.

Then you can connect a usb mouse to the device and use it instead of using the touchscreen.
It gets complicated but you can screen cast or VLC to share your screen to PC then use the mouse,to navigate and make selections. You can try finding screenshots of devices just like yours with the same stock firmware or custom ROM as yours has, then use those as a guide to help you figure out where things should be on your screen so can try to navigate to what you need to get the device to share it's screen to PC.
It takes a lot of trial and error to navigate properly until you finally connect the two screens.
Or you can try flashing TWRP on your device then use adb to pull your data.
This CAN be done if you've got the patience.

Yeah I thought of that I might give it a try, also I saw TWRP is touch only
What if someone makes a flashable zip that forces MTP on?

Connect a mouse or keyboard to the device using either Bluetooth or otg USB A to C to access the device and fix the keyboard then.

You might be able to but if you have a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard id find it easier just to use one of those. ADB can be a pain and it feels simpler just to go to the playstore and download the keyboard.

I think you misunderstood me, the XZ Premium does not boot up anymore. It stucks when booting up and asks for the PIN. But I can not enter without the Swift Key keyboard.

Oh my bad I see what you mean now. Yeah you can try adb but the phone most likely wont be recognised in adb. If it were me at that point id just newflash it or pc companion it. If you use newflasher I think theres away to flash without wiping data so it will just flash the system files including swift keyboard. The whole point of that screen is to prevent computer commands and data from being stolen so I don't think adb would detect the device. Take a look at some of the guides on newflasher since doing that would keep your data and reinstall the system including the keyboard. Alternatively if you have a backup in TWRP assuming your rooted you can use that to restore just the system. Also if you are rooted and have TWRP then adb should work through TWRP.
