"a little too much pie?" - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

So I experienced a "little" trouble after the Pie update, when trying too root my phone again.
Which one of you Oneplus 6-ers with rooted and "normal" phones also had problems after the Pie update?
And which one of you had the perfect update?

Perfect update here.
Coming from 5.1.5 straight to 9.0
Flashed bluspark.zip while still on 5.1.5, reboot to twrp, flashed Android Pie + twrp.zip + magisk 17.2, reboot twrp flash Android Pie + twrp.zip + magisk.zip again in second slot, reboot system.
Worked without any issues

From 5.11 to 9.0 with no issues. Updated to blue spark TWRP. Flashed full ota. Flashed TWRP again and Magisk 17.2. rebooted to TWRP, flashed TWRP and Magisk again and all was perfect. After first reboot I flashed EX Kernel 3.01 for pie and no Hicks and same insanely good battery life. No rogue apps (68 apps) at all.

Perfect here.
Updated dirty flash from twrp from 5.1.8 - 5.1.9 - beta 1 - beta 2 - beta 3 - stable pie - beta 4 never had an issue beside the device is corrupted message, i just ignored that one.

Random Soft Reboots OOS 9.0

Hi folks.
Since I'm on Oxygen OS 9.0 there are a lot of soft reboots. I was looking for the reason but everything I tried won't affect the system. LogCat in the attachment.
Local update to 9.0 , stock Kernel, rooted with Magisk 17.2 Beta the latest TWRP Blu_spark.

Updating to 9.0.2 on a rooted device

Will there be any incompatibility issues with magisk and xposed?
No problem with rooted device on updating, althought you will get unrooted once you update with OTA.
Also, there is no xposed for Pie.
Not yet faced any issues. After OTA update done don't reboot the device. just come to Magisk manager -> install -> select install after OTA option and reboot so that you won't lose root.
Ok, I will stay on oreo for now then. Does Pie run better than Oreo on stock?
Should've read this **** before updating to Pie.
Currently in a bootloop after going from oreo to Pie :'(
What is the latest version of Oreo I should be able to get to with Xposed on OP6?
I faced some issues. After updating to 9.0.2 TWRP and Magisc were gone. So had to reroot and reinstall TWRP via fastboot.
Yes.. this will ALWAYS happen. if you want to keep root when doing OTA you have to do this after install is done, but before reboot!
open magisk app
press downloads
search for TWRP A/B
Install that module ( :::::...:.:..:...::::O NOT REBOOT:::::...:.:..:...::::
Go to main screen of magisk again
press install
press install to inactive slot (after ota)
NOW you can reboot and all will be kept.
If you do it from TWRP (like i prefer, since its just faster)
Flash full rom
flash Twrp (blu_spark latest)
reboot to twrp
flash magisk (latest)
done.
flashing roms will ALWAYS override recovery and boot partition
If I understand you precisely, you say, that this is a question of OTa roms. I am not very keen for OTA. Would TWRP and Magisk stay when flashing a non-OTA rom? If yes, are there non-OTAs of OOS?
No what I ment was using the update function from within android.
You will ALWAYS override recovery and Magisk. Follow the steps above when you flash..
Always like this from twrp
Flash Rom
Flash Recovery
Reboot to twrp
Flash magisk
And u be good...
OK thanks. I did wrongly to accept the automatic update instead of downloading the zip and install it via TWRP.

installing Android 10 over Pie

I'm wondering if I can install Android 10/Q over Pie without having to clean flash. On the Pixel 3 there were issues during rooting when there wasn't a clean update.

I'd say try it out. I just installed Android 10 yesterday via ADB sideload over Android Pie with TWRP. As always, perform a backup in TWRP before going forward with anything.
Edit: to clarify as well, I was rooted with Magisk and TWRP on Android Pie. Using TWRP/adb sideload, the OS updated without any issues. After that, I installed TWRP and Magisk v. 20.1 again and have been fine for 16 hours.

Been gone for a while, help confirming a few things to upgrade to Android 10

Hi, hoping a kind soul out there will help to confirm a few things about moving to Android 10 from Android 9
I haven't bothered keeping my phone up to date for around a year, and I'm just looking into updating to stock OOS 10 for now.
I'm currently rooted with TWRP & Magisk running an old Android 9 custom ROM, and there seems to be a bit of confusion around TWRP and updating to android 10. I'm looking to completely format the phone, not worried about loss of data as I'll just restore titanium backups, so my plan is this to get a clean install with TWRP + Magisk+Gapps:
1) Reboot to current bluspark TWRP, Flash OOS 10.3.0, Flash twrp-3.3.1-16 mauronofrio installer.zip, Reboot to recovery
2) Flash OOS 10.3.0, Flash twrp-3.3.1-16 mauronofrio installer, flash Magisk 20.3, flash GApps arm64 10.0 nano, reboot to system & enjoy.
This was always my normal update process so i'm pretty comfortable with this way if it will work.
Can anyone confirm if this will cause issues due to TWRP not working properly with android 10 when i preform my first reboot to recovery? My thinking is that if I flash it after installing android 10 then any issues caused by android 10 should be fixed, is this correct?
Thanks!
There is no confusion at all.
Everything is clear since months ago that 10.3 was released.
Upgrade firstly to the latest 9.x Rom, then flash the latest TWRP and then u are ready for flashing 10.3 and latest magisk.

ok, so I have to go to OOS 9.09 with twrp-3.3.1-16-enchilada-Pie-mauronofrio, before upgrading to 10..3.0 & twrp-3.3.1-16-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio, even if I want to just do a full wipe and start fresh on 10.3.0?

[solved] Reboot to twrp when installing latest lineage16

Hello
Strange think for me, maybe not for you
I switch from carbon 8 and came back to lineage 16.
I'm not able to achieved installation with latest lineage 16, lineage microG or lineage17. Flashing the new rom works well, but after lineage home screen, the phone reboot to recovery.
With an lineage16 old version from 03/2019,install is ok and phone boot well.
I've suspected an old twrp version, but I'm on 3.3.1.0.
Any idea ?
thank you
it's the same with an old twrp version 3.2.
Ok, solved. You shouldn't install twrp as an app before rebooting to new os version.
