[how to delete this duplicate thread?] Insufficient space while updating system - Huawei MediaPad M5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Could you please tell me how to delete this thread I erroneously posted in the wrong forum? Thanks!

Hello,
I own a CMR-W09 with the 8.0.0.168 system. I try to install the 8.0.0.181 OTA update but I get a “insufficient space” error dialog box: I need to free ~200MB.
Why is that? The update is “only” 465MB and I have 1.1GB of free space on the storage card (/data) and 1.4GB on the system partition. Isn't this sufficient?
I get the same kind of error when trying to update apps: sometimes 500MB of free space aren't sufficient to update a 10MB app. How so?
That leads me to this model disk usage: is this normal the /data partition is only 22.2GB? Of which a gigantic 13.7GB is used for system data? Meaning I only get 8.5GB (or even 6.2GB if I take into account the 1.3GB I should keep free for OTA updates!) to install my own apps … I expected at least the double when buying a 32GB device! Any way to extend this? Through adoptable storage? Or Link2SD or anything similar?

The 12MB phone storage is what's killing you. In 'Manage Apps' under 'Settings', you can click on each individual app and send some of the larger ones to the SD card. You can also try clearing data for the Facebook app, which can hold a lot of data due to contact photos if you use it.
Just for curiosity's sake, what phone are you using?
Im using HTC Desire.
I understood that due to 12mb phone storage i get Low on space, but i made ext 1gb partition, so shouldnt now phone storage expand and became 12mb+1gb ?
All my apps are on sdcard, and no facebook app.
I made 1gb partition why its not helping ?

It sounds like you don't have apps2sd installed, or that the ext4 partition isn't recognised properly. I remember it was particularly fussy about whether the ext4 part was the first partition in the table or not, I'm not sure if this is still the case
Sent from my HTC Vivid
With previous SD card, There's 12mb free internal storage and 134mb a2sd free, 238 a2sd occupied.
So i really dont understand now :/. This partition is working but not all space in a2sd are used (134mb) free , but also 238 a2sd occupied. So its working, so why i get Low on space :/ .
On new card I made 1gb partition and 0 occupied.
And i cant run restore in titanium backup, because it shows there's no space, but i adjusted to write everything to external storage in titanium backup settings.
Please help, because now i bought a new card and cant use it :/ .
I see what you're trying to do now
The phone will never show that you've added to phone storage, because you can't. Adding an SD partition won't increase your phone storage at all, it just gives you a place to put all your apps so they don't take up your actual phone storage.
There is something on your phone taking up the ~150MB phone storage. It may be contact photos, it may be SMSs/MMSs, it may be camera pictures and videos (if you haven't set the camera to save to SD by default). You've already moved your apps so it's not those. You need to go through all your apps and see how much each is individually using (in 'manage apps').
Pay particular attention to 'contacts storage', 'calendar storage' etc as they are usually the hogs in my experience, and you can't move them. If you sync your Facebook contacts with your phone, the photos and details can easily use over 200MB.
Thank you very much for helping me ).
I understood about memmory usage. Cleaned almost everything in phone memmory, but still 18mb left.
Its just a new SD card and so many problems. Now apps cant find root access, watahell ? My phone was always rooted .
Please someone help to fix problems, i want to use my new SD card.
1. Something happened to root. Titanium gets root rights. I BusyBox installer shows that my phone is rooted, but when i push install busybox it fails .
In titanium backup i press "Problems?" and it offers to updade superuser. I press Update superuser and imedietly get force close.
I really apreciate if someone help me :/ .
Try rooting again. If you're S-OFF already, SuperOneClick will make mincemeat of your Desire in one click (link in my signature)
As soon as something goes wrong with root, you need to have another try at it. If you get an error, post it here and I will help if I can

Storage Space Running Out with 300+ MB Space left

Hi all
I attempted to install XCOM Enemy Unknown (3.62 GB) on my Moto G which had 4 GB of available space according to the storage information. However the attempt failed as an "Insufficient Storage Space" error popped up just as the game was installing.
I've succeeded in maunally installing the game however by downloading the APK separately (as the additional game files were already downloaded), moving the additional files to a PC, installing the apk and moving the files back. After having done this my phone still had 300MB of available space however I now have a permanent notification claiming that the system is running out of storage space and with that, the inability to install any more apps.
I have read up articles on clearing logs using root, however I cannot seem to find any logs in the directories they have indicated.
Checking space division with diskusage provided no useful insight into the issue either.
If anyone can share some advice I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

[Q] Applications quantity limit?

I have rom with swapped SD and local memory. I have fast, stable big[32gig] memory card. I have free space on each visible partition.
Is there any quantity limit of applications installed on the Android phones?
When I remove one app I can install another instead of that previous, if not I am getting errors about 'insufficient storage'
The size of removing apps doesnt mattrer - I have tried to delete big games and I cant install more than one small app.
Please let me know what should I check. Maybe I have overloaded any hidden partition?
thank you

Partition for Google Play download data, kinda impossible to locate via stock file manager. Even my fresh Galaxy V (4GB) had this prob.
You may explore the whole storage module via root explorer or somewhat, or tweak the ROM to download any data to SD card.

[Completed] i keep getting insufficient space and storage errors on my android tablet

Is a Active_L10A1G running android 4.2.2
I get frequent insufficient storage space errors when i attemptto update apps. Also been getting other insufficient errors.
I have been advised to go the rooting method in order to fix the problem.
I downloaded an app called 'Fix me storage' which would run and referred me to your website.
Can you please point me in the right direction as it is driving me insane.
My tablet has more than enough storage to handle updates.
CPU 4core
Ram 1024Mb
Rom 1007.9Mb
SdCard 12.94Gb
Thank you

Hi RonBus,
unfortunately there is nothing about your exact device on xda.
To free some space on your internal memory/sd card, you may have to uninstall some apps, move some files to other partitions (or external memory/sd card if available).
You can also use some cleaner apps from Play store (e.g. CleanMaster) to identify some junk files which can be removed.
If you need further help, please register on xda and post in the [HELP THREAD] Ask ANY Question. Noob Friendly. by immortalneo.
Good luck !

storage issue

Hello, I have this phone (8gb) since August and never noticed how much storage I have until now because it started notifying me storage was full. Well, it says total space is 4,53gb and without /system 3,60. So my question is, where is the 4gb of storage that I don't see? I was hoping it was occupied by /system but it is not. We're talking about a half of the storage and it's unbelievable that I cannot use at least 5 of the 8 I've payed for.
Any help would be very appreciated!
4.53 gb is your /data partition(user apps and data are stored here), other space is used in /system partition where all system files are located.
Is there a way to resize the partitions?

it was possible to resize partitions in many phones and there are also apps available on playstore for it. but you should reset it to default before flashing any rom. :/
And do you think reducing /system may be a problem?

when I was using stock, my system partition was filled by 1.5gb from 2.19gb. there is still some space there but you shouldn't reduce it because it will get filled over time with app updates. and there will be problem with ota updates if you resize it.
