2nd hand Mix 2S - any traps to watch out for? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

I want to buy a 2nd hand Mi Mix 2S - are there any traps to watch out for?
I understand that the China/Global ROM question isn't a real issue since you can flash it anyway.
Any other things I should take care of, or specifically should look at?

Xiaomi is blocking rom changing
Will you do the trade in person or someone will send to you by post mail ?

Will be in person. So I can do a throughout inspection. I want to avoid the China ROM. Will look for MIUI Global.
Standard MI ROM is fine for me.
What you mean Xiaomi is blocking rom changing - people here seem to change ROM all the time? Well, it's not an issue for me as long as the ROM is global already.

Yes , xiaomi will begin to block rom changing , if you are global , you stay global , if you have china , you stay china...
During my upgrade , the phone made a factory reset and then asked me to put my xiaomi account , so make sure there is no xiaomi account on the phone , and if possible , create one and put it on the phone with the guy in front of you

Why would I need a XiaoMi account? I have already a Note 4 (Global) with original ROM and have no Mi Account as far as I know.

If the guy have mi acount on the phone he can block it

OK, get it. I will watch out for that.

The move from china to global is a non-issue as long as you check the rollback index of your current build.

The mi account advice is a good one. Add your mi account to be sure it hasn't been stolen and patched

Check the proximity sensor.

You are partially right. It hasn't been implemented in Mix 2s builds for now. I'll edit my reply.

I got it! A 6/128Gb one for about $300. Seems everything works so far, prox sensor works fine too. No Mi account was setup.
ROM is MIUI Global 10.0.2.0
Did already the transfer from my 5 year old android phone. Maybe one silly question, how do I get the gallery images transferred? They are of course in the Cloud on Google Photos, but I like them on my device too.

I really have a hard time believing this. However, if someone does get some version of the OS that is different to what we have, and we see some screen shots, then I'll believe. I need this to be verified among MULTIPLE credible Android sites and some people who actually have the device with pics to back up their claims IN HAND.
Until then, I'm not buying it.

It says he will have global rom phones on 17th of September - lets wait and see
PS: Interesting - Xiaomi started global version yesterday for Mimax 3, which is like 2 months later after starting it in China market:
https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-max-3-miui-global-beta-rom/
If I understand correctly you can install this rom on an existing chinese rom. Did anybody have an asian/chinese Honor phone recently and could comment if a global version could have been installed in it?
[EDITED:ADDED] Also, is there anything additional to expect from a global rom? Even in chinese version you can set language to english, uninstall most of the bloatware, have google play, so would there be any advantages if global version would actually be launched?

Have you activated any particular settings to make the Google Maps history work?
In Maps settings, under Personal Content, I can read "Location history is not active" but by pressing on the text I can not activate it.
The settings on the position instead is active.
Now it's past September 17th, has the global rom come out?
I come from Honor Note 8 and never comes out an Global Rom.I make Roms for the HN8 with deleted China Apps and integrated Google Apps.I think for Honor Note 10 is the same,we see never a Global Rom and nobody can make Roms without unlock Bootloader!Only we can uninstall the most China Apps and uninstall System Apps with ADB Shell.
Honor Note 10/Note 8 is for Chinese Market and not a for Europe!

Hello, have you found a theme that can change the navigation bar in black?

bought a mi mix 3

To answer a few questions. I have in my possession a mi mix 3. It takes 720 hours to unlock the bootloader. So in 30 days from today I should be able to unlock the bootloader.
If anyone has questions please ask. At the moment I am on TMobile and volte does not work... Maybe when we get global firmware it will work. I will try to put a Verizon Sim in later today and see if it works.
After binding the device, the login unlock tool does take 72 hours to wait

Did you try the new unlock program, I helped someone unlock mi mix 1, he had been on vendor ROM for 18 months and had no updates, he SS and the device was locked. He used the unlock program and instantly was unlocked. How do they decide which device can instantly unlock.

1. does the phone have an LED notification light?
2. Even though the phone is has MIUI were you able to install Google Play and all other Google apps, if so, how did you do that?
Mine comes tomorrow. Thanks for the update. Hope that changes to 72 hours... I thought I read somewhere that a lot of people thought it was 720 hours but then it changes to 72
Nevermind.
Yo buddy, can you download an app called 'drm info' from the Google play store and send a screen shot here?
I want to know the widevine security level.
Until now, no xiaomi phone has security L1, only L3, meaning the device can't play HD content on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Google Movies etc..
Those are all encrypted to protect from piracy or whatever. I would appreciate your help

Poco F2 Pro, global version, call recording?

Hi I wish to buy the phone, global version.
Does it have call recorder function, and Xiaomi app (caller. Contacts and so on)?
For me is very important to be able to record phone calls.
Something that is possible to do with Redmi K20 but not with Mi9TPRO (my current phone which I flashed with Indian rom for call recording function.
What is the situation with poco f2 phone?
no with global rom, dialer provided by google but yes with Eu roms ..

General Share Rom Black Shark 4 - 4 Pro | Global Rom - China Rom

Hello, nice to see you again in a new thread.
I hope that all of you, as a non-specialist user, please do not arbitrarily interfere with the device without specific instructions from us. However, you are the hardworking bees that will help us a lot.
Every time the device says an update, go to file manager - internal storage - ota_package and copy that file to another folder, then share it here for everyone to reuse.
I have now copied the MP4 version of the china rom - Black Shark 4, and am happy to share it here.
Download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sXhbaeqUUUGYn7PSRqQgVl9-UKaH7G9x/view?usp=sharing
Thanks for sharing. hopefully you can share unlocking and twrp soon. By the way, so the china Rom is at MP4 now? while global Rom has just released the MP1. way too delayed.
Thinking to buy the Chinese version 6/128 for around 320€ (around Poco F3 price), but so scared about the software updates and unlock bootloader/twrp/root.
Appart from the amazing work of @SFMobile Channel , there are some devs behind this quite amazing hardware-price device?? How many chances do you have to unlock completely this phone?
Sry for this "idiot" questions, but I'm sure more people thinking to buy this phone are interested on it
Is it okay to update via ota? Using the file you shared above? Is it okay to update the global rom with that?

Question Way to unlock Poco X3 without mi account

Hi,
I never created a mi account for my phone and the mi account app doesn´t work on my Poco X3 Pro (could probably get it to work with a factory reset), but I also see that Xiaomi are generally not letting people unblock the bootloader, presenting them with various errors, delays, rejections and total lack of customer support in this regard.
I found that Mediatek devices could be unlocked with a MTK bootloader tool, but the Poco X3 Pro has a Snapdragon chipset.
Anybody aware of a way to do this without a mi account?
Best regards,
Frederik

Now I got the mi account to work on my phone by uninstalling and re-installing a lot of mi software with ADB.
But now I can´t connect to fastboot. I have installed the drivers coming with the Mi Unlock and they appear as "Poco X3 Pro" in device manager after reboot of the phone, if I reconnect the phone and select file transfer, then it appears as "ADB Interface" in device manager.
I can´t get it to apper as Android Bootloader, which I understand is requiered?

Ok, whatever. Now I got to the waiting part and I´m trying to get through to their hotline to get the waiting time cancelled.
The US helpdesk can´t help.
So now I´m trying China and global helpdesk.
I got these numbers of which the first refers to the second for helpdesk.
+86-10-60606666 .
+86 400-100-5678

The waiting time is 168 hours in general, sometimes more sometimes less.
keep us informed if you manage to cancel the waiting time, it will be a scoop.

What's the point of bugging the hotline staff? They will only reply according to their work protocol anyway. Just wait and be happy that you can unlock the bootloader at all.
Pls delete

I´m not interacting with hotline staff, I´m interacting with an organization and I don´t understand why this organization is bugging me.

What's wrong if they set the waiting time? Some companies does not even let you unlock bootloader. I felt bugged if they don't let me unlock bootloader or similar cases, so can you help me complain to them? eg. Huawei & Apple
They can always say for security and confidential reasons.
They deal with unlock request on their server. Worst case, your waiting time can be 720~1440 hours.
It was already shorten
reduce the unlock time from 720 hours to less
Well, I had other unlocking hours 553 almost every day I ran the unlock. Today before doing this I went into the mi cloud and I clicked on find device device while I opened the unlock tool and waited to go into fastboot running so see other...

It´s absolutely wrong that we don´t own what we buy, no matter who puts the limitations. I can understand it in terms of warranty, that they can´t provide warranty if I knowingly decide to use the phone against the terms of the warranty, great, that´s how it has to be. We have to be able to own what we buy and prevent others from using our stuff.

Xiaomi actually still has warranty coverage even if you unlock bootloader. Exclusion is that after bootloader unlocked, if you do something to the phone whether hardware or software, and the phone hard bricked.
We are actually using Xiaomi's server to unlock bootloader.
According to your logic, while the server belongs to Xiaomi (they paid for the server and designers), Xiaomi has to be able to own what they bought (the server) and prevent (or control) others from using our stuff.
Do you own Xiaomi's unlock bootloader server ?
