Sorry if this has already been discussed but wondering what this would mean for current 7 Plus?
Poor commercial decision in my opinion. Instead of building a solid user base they are releasing way too many phones. Their update system is a mess and with so many phones the already poor customer service and tech support will only get worse.

Does the Nokia 7 Plus support Project Treble? I never quite found out. More Nokia phones might actually make the platform more accessible. An open bootloader would help a lot in developing for the whole range if the newer Nokia phones do support Project Treble.

Let me list what we know so far about updates and future plans of HMD Global for its Nokia 6:
1. Android O: Recently after a launch event in Indonesia, some YouTuber from Indonesia interviewed the executive "Mark Trundie" mentioned all of the existing Nokia Android phones (3,5,6 & 8) will get Android O before the End of 2017, to be specific in his words "before Christmas"

2. Bootloader Unlock: in a recent twitter conversation between NokiaPowerUser and Mikko Jaakkola, CTO of HMD , Mikko mentioned that HMD Global is willing to unlock bootloader if its devices, one at a time, and as Nokia 6 is the only cell which is currently available officially in USA it seems it will be the first followed by others.

Thank you
Thanks for collating all the info.
Haven't been too enamoured with how Nokia has begin their Android project so far. They're too vague with info unless pushed and haven't been as quick with the actual main updates as per their promise ie. No Oreo or 7.1.2 updates. They also haven't released any pc recovery tools for general customers or unlocked the bootloader for more technical minded ones.
Maybe their Dev teams are are still finding their feet and they'll be up to speed by next year.

You are Welcome bro.
As for PC tool, i may have some news which is not confirmed yet so will not disclose right now, but we are pretty sure that Nokia will come up with a tool whenever it plans to start unlocking the bootloaders of its devices, because we all know why we need unlocked bootloader and that also needs a proper PC tool to go stock again. Which is also a consideration to Nokia.
For updates, as per me, i will be ok if we jump straight to Oreo instead of 7.1.2.
Its actually the os update which we care the most, right? As per their constant promise, if we consider they will release Oreo before Christmas then we have to see what happens in next 80 days.
Nokia 6 has been seen on GFXBench with Android 7.1.2, which means testing is underway.
It is reported that Android 7.1.2 Nougat enhances notification stability, improves fingerprint swipe performance, and gives alert on battery usage alerts among other features.
Source: NokiaPowerUser
Good to know they're testing 7.1.2 . The 7.1.2 uodate was a decent update when lineage incorporated it if I'm remembering that right. Performance did improve with it on the old phone I had. Not that this phone is slow. Despite all the criticism from spec readers about the processor I'm really happy with how smooth it runs. The 6 is an excellent phone
Nobody's mentioned the touch latency with any of these Nokia's. The Nokia 6 touchscreen has a pretty good touch latency response. It's one of the better Android phones I've used. Not like the Nokia 5 though. It's touch response was noticeably bad. Just thought I'd mention that for no reason! No reviews said anything this.
Aside, hopefully the Dev side of the phone speeds up soon.

Does honor V10 supports A/ B memory for seamless updates?
Don't quote me, but to my understanding it just supports A updates even though it may support Treble. I could be wrong. That was the case with the Mate 10 though afaik
Anyone with confirm answer !??? Does it have a/b partition system... The device is launched in india but since less dev attractions due to honor past no much developers from india bought it yet. I want to buy this since I like custom roms more than stock with root and other stuff but I don't know how much development will happen...

No. It does not. A/B updates won't impact development much anyway. The only ROM that uses them right now is lineage and I think PA might. But it isn't a deal breaker.

I am just asking cause even pixel phones devs are struggling with a/b partition ... And if honor view 10 also have it then it will be more complicated for development?? better i will wait and buy sd845 based device? instead of this...
Hi guys, Im currently the owner of a Nexus 6P looking for an upgrade. Im torn between the Pixel 2 XL and OnePlus 6!
I love the quick software updates on the pixel line but i've heard that OnePlus is pretty good at getting updates out and with Android 8.1 bringing project treble would it be right to assume the updates could be even faster in the future?
How does oxygen OS compare to stock android? Have people with 5Ts had quick updates?
Thanks

Hey buddy,
I'm currently on the OnePlus 5 and have had it since launch. It's my first OP phone and won't be my last.
In terms of updates, I would say OnePlus is one of the best out there (at least in the first year of a phones release). Having said that, the OP3/T seem to have had pretty decent updates in their second year with them getting an Oreo 8.0 beta before the OP5/T!
With treble being mandatory on any new phone now, it will be there and their release cycle will no doubt be impacted by it. I can only assume this will be to our (as consumers) benefit.
If you want the fastest updates out there after / in line with Pixel then the main other contender is Nokia. They are doing all of the monthly security updates and sometimes before they come to the Pixel phones.
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs
Well it's great to see the OnePlus 6 is being released with the Android P Beta program! Makes me confident that OnePlus will have fast updates due to project treble!!
Hello,
Which one of these phones would be the better one to buy in terms of rooting, modding, customizing etc. ?
Does one support more mods than the other or they pretty much the same? Also would like support for Xposed framework.
Thanks

5T currently has more support for this. There is not much difference in their price. But 6 will eventually get more support later by time(Like custom roms but it already has many custom kernels available).
Ok yeah that's what I thought. But if I was to get OnePlus 6 and roll it back to nougat, would it be just as good as the 5T for customization or is it the hardware in the 6 that limits it?

Oh it isn't possible to flash a Nougat firmware on the 6?
Also, is xposed worth installing or can you find the same or similar modules as an apk these days? Xposed will also break safetynet too yeah?
I didn't installed xposed, I am running no limits rom.
No it is not possible maby u can build it but I have no idea.
Its all different because treble partitions, also qualcomm did not release the sources for the 845 processor. So aosp development is not active only on treble based roms are available but I have no experience with it.
But it will come with the time, the device is just 5 weeks ago released.
When qualcomm decide to release the sources the rom development will come.
Seems the new a-b slots made it much more difficult for devs, only omni as an custom rom today. Much worse than for 5t after same time span.
Seems Lineage is picking put the 5T, that can change the custom rom scene.
Treble has been an disappointment until now, no real benefit for op6

The point of project treble isn't for custom ROM support but for being able to be on the developer previews of unreleased, upcoming Android versions which will enable the OEM (our case OnePlus) to be able to update our phones much much faster.
That's the benefit.
Off topic post removed.
:good:
OT5 is simple life (old partition system) and no notch, but an old model already. OT6 has a notch and the damned A/B partitions, but brand new, with OIS, a bit better cameras tho the secondary camera on the back is just to help the main one...
The problem is that the 5T price isn't going down.
"HMD Global has announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1, making it the first Nokia smartphone to get a stable build of the latest version of Android."

Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?
Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.
its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

My brother is using a Nokia 7 plus and I had Android 9 weeks before him and even with security updates Nokia isn't faster all the time compared to Xiaomi.
I've never managed to get any kind of custom rom working through TWRP because of the kinstalldeviceopenerror.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.

Nothing official, but I think q1/2020 would be a good guess.
Last year Mi A1 got the Android 9 update on the 23rd of december.
My guess is Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10 in late december.
