Hello guys, I read somewhere (still trying to get the link) that EMUI 5.1 will soon be coming to Mate 9 with 7.1.1.
Anyone with idea if it is true?

A lot of things including memory management, predictive touch recognition and response, cleaner, faster with smoother transitions and visuals, improved battery consumption management, probably Nougat 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 and more.

There are a few people who already tested a beta version with 5.1 and reported this. I guess they are telling us the truth.

This is answer from EMUI FB:
Hi Krešimir, EMUI 5.1 will not be offered to devices that have EMUI 5.0, EMUI 4.1 or lower systems for now. Please rest assured that some of the new functions from EMUI 5.1 will be built into a debugged, featured-enhanced version of EMUI 5.0 that will be released after June 2017. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Stay tuned.

that makes sense since everyone on 5.1 beta currently reports EMUI 5.0 in their about phone

Any idea about the build numbers on those phones?

I've seen Chinese betas mentioned with Mate 9 MHA-AL00C00B203-log, B205-log and B206-log.. but these are beta builds and most likely dont resemble any public release build numbers... tho going off the current available update build numbers, seem to be on par.. would assume a final build in the 200 number range would be the new EMUI 5.1 features build (and like mentioned, probably still show 5.0 in about phone).

I don't get it. P10 and Honor V9/8 Pro are on EMUI 5.1 and with the same hardware (Kirin 960 CPU/SOC, etc.) as Mate 9 , but Mate 9 which is flagship device by price and by marketing materials/adds distributed by Huawei is not getting full EMUI 5.1, but just some of the features of it and stays on EMUI 5.0.
Where's the logic in that?

I don't talk about the number, I was reading that the difference is not only the number. I think that Huawei has stated that we will get SOME of the features of 5.1, not all of them.

Used to get the same problem with Samsung devices, the S models would come out with a specific BloatWhiz UI and then the Note model would come out a few months after with a newer BloatWhiz UI but the S models would not get an upgrade to that new UI version... rinse repeat for next years models... Same UI version would stick around, but you would get new Android version and Security patches until such time the next model of that Type would get released, then they'd normally hang you out to dry on new major android versions, but get some security patches...
From what I've read on beta stuff tho - we are getting functionality atleast, if not all of 5.1..

There you have it. This is exactly the problem in Android world. If you buy a device from major Android manufacturer, you can be pretty sure that the support will start to slow down when new flag ship device is launched.
2 years is really the maximum support time for Android devices, except for Google Pixel / Nexus devices.
I don't like Apple or the iOS devices but I have to admit that the support in iWorld is in much better shape than in Android world.
I hope this will be addressed in Google level.
Edit. And Huawei is one of the worst manufacturer in what comes to updates. Two updates in 6 months (even security fixes) happens only for new device launched. Then the support will be gradually ramped down and good luck for getting security updates.

Well.. it's really the manufacturer at fault and shouldn't really fall back on Google as they create the software and it's up to Samsung, Huawei, LG, etc to all support it on their devices so if they choose not to do any future updates then that's their choice.. you can't compare to iOS/Apple because their software is only built for their devices and no other manufacturers can make an iOS based device period, so to that degree you could compare it to the Nexus devices or Pixel which run the vanilla Android and get constant upgrades because that's devices that have no UI slapped on top of it and supported by Google and manufacturer hasn't got to make its own custom update with their UI etc

True but you got me wrong
I didn't blame Google for this situation but I hoped that Google would use its muscles to solve the situation.
It is really 3rd party manufacturers fault and they should improve the situation as well.
It's also very common to compare Samsung, LG and Huawei to Apple because they are all trying to sell to same customers.
It is true that Apple is making the HW and SW and that gives a huge lead in integration and updates. However, Google is also providing monthly security updates and it is 3rd party companies responsibility to publish those security updates for their products.
This is not happening currently, or it takes ages to have the update (Huawei)
Owning Google pixel or Nexus is clear advantage, but I would like to see that other manufacturers would concentrate more to serve existing customers.

Agreed 100% here.. but where I am sitting, I bought my Huawei Mate 9 Pro in Feb, and I know the device was actually out in December, but that aside, I have now managed to pull 2 OTA updates (first when I first turned on the phone at the store installed B139, second was B156 shortly after), and a 3rd is pending authentication (B181, just this weekend) - to me thats quite a few updates.. I don't recall getting 3 updates within first 3-4 months from Samsung when I had my Note 4 (I could be wrong here, but don't recall this amount of OTA from device launch... purchased it within a few weeks of release date, they stopped updating android when Note 5 landed, security updates kept coming tho). I'm more than happy with Huawei so far, and their efforts to release new updates to fix issues people are seeing - tbh I never had many issues and the ones I did have got fixed with the first 2 OTA's.
They do need to work on security fixes and Google should push them to get them out there... case in point - my Samsung Note Pro 12.2 has not had an update in months, and is still on Android 5.1.1, and of course Samsung will not even bother with any new builds, and probably won't get a security update for another 3 months... it's very disappointing that I spent over $1k on a tablet, which will not "officially" run Nougat, tho it probably doesnt need it the device runs perfectly fine as it is - tho we always want the latest and greatest..

When will The oneplus 6 receive Android P stable version

I've searched for this everywhere.. but haven't find an answer.
What will happen to the oneplus 6 and the other unpixel devices that support P beta, when the development ends and google releases the public version ?
Will it be instantly updated alongside the pixel devices ?

isnt the whole purpose of treble to make the updates easily available, the rest is up to manufacturers

Android P will be in Beta till the Pixel 3 is released - normally November.
One would assume that a stable kernel and OS will be available for OnePlus to use around that time (maybe as late as Jan 2019 depending on OnePlus's resources). Be patient. If you are apart of the P beta program then get used to the issues associated with beta software

No, it's supposed to get it much quicker then other OEMs if a phone is part of Project Treble. The Google Pixel phones will ALWAYS be the first to get it as it's made for the Pixel line... the OEMs like OnePlus will get it sonner then most and it's just much easier to get it to the phones. So expect it roughly a month or so maybe 2 after it's released on the Pixel line.

Android P will probably be released in August like Android Oreo, and it will probably be official in August/September

Lol. People will never be happy... Whaaaa? No official P at the same time with Pixel 3? Feel blessed that you have Project Treble. Before Treble, OEMs was getting source code only after the final version was released. That was the point when OEMs could start working on their betas. Or to put it on other words: first betas late November (in the best scenario) and final release February, March. Now we have betas in May-June and people are still crying lol.

I understand perfectly... Google will never allow another device to have the newest Android version before the pixel line and once it's out on the pixels, they will release it to the other pens when they choose, which likely will be a bit after it's on the pixels for a bit. It's just the way it is, treble or not.

what's the rush anyway?? it's a freaking phone not your life support system... smh

100% agree with this! If you want the latest and greatest first, then Pixel phones are the best options. For me, the latest security updates are the most important thing - any phone manufacturer that doesn't release these on time is dead to me (Huawei is the worst).. I think what OnePlus is doing is better than the average, so if you don't like it, move along..

You do realize that OxygenOS is not stock android. So how would they release it instantly when they need to customize it before release.

It's available as a beta.. they're already in the process of customizing it... And that's a first for android and google.. and that's why in my opinion it should be available for the beta supported devices much faster than previous iterations, I Mean..... What's the point of the beta then ?

Watch the announcement event on YouTube. Should be in there. However it's not uncommon for promises of updates to be broken. Just saying since you seem to be looking for some kind of official confirmation instead of all the media coverage relaying what Asus has said on the matter.

Quoting this for emphasis. Manufacturers have been lying about updates for years.

Any manufacturers promise of long-term support needs to be taken with a tablespoon of salt. They make money selling phones.....they get squat for pushing updates to those phones....In a while they'll get bankrupt unless they sell more. Simple market dynamics 101.

Quite frankly...I believe that the version of Android that was built into the phone is usually the best. Maybe not the best version of Android per-se...but the best for the hardware. So many times I read about people who beg for a new version for their phones only to complain later that the update sucks, and is full of bugs. So I can appreciate if they push Q but as for R...welllllll, that may be just a little too much.

That's very true for fat custom skins which deeply changes stock Android look and feel as well as adds new features. Like Samsung' former TouchWiz.
OT: I am using for nearly two years Xiaomi Mi A1 with Android One. It started with Android Nougat 7.1.2, then we were updated to Oreo 8.0, 8.1 and for half an year we have Pie 9. With every Android major version and with every monthly security update the phone is better and better, they steadily eliminate bugs and even add new features which were missing at start (like FM radio app, VoLTE support, etc). I am very happy with it. But despite this there are always users who are not satisfied for example because they have not done their homework about Mi A1 and they say that slim stock Android is worse for them than fat MIUI.

US SHT-W09 (C567) - E-Mail from Huawei Support (Updated July 13th)

I decided to contact Huawei Support to find out what's happening with the MediaPad M5 [US Version - SHT W09 (C567)] upgrade to EMUI 9.0, since it's been perpetually stuck on 8.0.0.196 for many months with seemingly no official way to upgrade. I will say that they do have a very good support team that was quite helpful. Below is the e-mail response that I received.
"This email is to follow-up your inquiry about an update for the MediaPad M5. We would like to draw to your attention that currently, we do not have any information about this update coming to your device. However, please do not be disheartened, we recommend you to stay tuned to our social networks as we will continue publishing relevant information about further updates in there."
Well, many of us users of the SHT W09 (C567)] feel really completely left out by Huawei. I truly hope that I'll see an upgrade to at least EMUI 9.0 for my MediaPad M5, however I may never buy another Huawei device in the future even though they make fantastic devices.

I got a further bit of information by contacting Huawei via The Twitters:
"Based on the information you kindly provided us, we could verify that your MediaPad M5 is up to date with the last upgrade available. You can be sure that we are working to provide with the best user experience to our customers. That's why we invite you to stay tuned to our official sites, where you can find more news regarding the next updates for your device model."
Based on that response I'm trying to prepare mentally for not getting an update.

I was quite surprised this morning to see an update notification. All it did was bring the M5 up to July's patch level. Still EMUI 8 with 8.0.0.198 so a minor jump. Still not sure why we can't have at minimum EMUI 9.

I have the same issue with my CMR-AL09, stuck also on 8.0.0.196 (C432) ,
never again huawei ,

The odd thing is there are some users who have gotten 9.0. my only guess is the US ban stopped the rollout hopefully now that it's lifted the rollout will ramp back up.

The ban hasn't officially been lifted. Either way, Google had a 3 month licence to continue trading with Huawei until end of August iirc.

I have the CMR-W09 (C567) version and I have not got Pie yet. But I am not really that upset. Yes I would like to have Pie, but I can live without it. I bought this tablet knowing that it would upgrade to Pie at some point. If I get Pie or not it is still better than having a Samsung.

I'm in the market for a one-hand tablet (less than 5" width). Are Huawei tablets in the bad books with Google Android, in a wider USA-China context ? I am in Australia, so there is no official ban (yet) on Huawei products, but Huawei was prevented from bidding for a 5G network.
Mediapad M5 seems top, but I'm likely to settle for an M3 8.0 Lite, if it has reasonable chances of being supported by Google Android.

Huawei largely abandoned the US market when political bullying from Trump forced AT&T and Best Buy to drop plans to sell the Mate 10. That phone ended up being dumped at places like Sears, K-Mart and Walmart at steep discounts. The US model Mate 10 received none of the updates that were pushed to all of the non-US models.
Since the political climate has only gotten much worse since the Mate 10 fiasco Huawei doesn't consider the United States a viable market so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for updates.
If software updates are essential to you then you are probably better off getting one of the new Samsung tablets running Android Pie.

Thanks, I'm less concerned about Android updates. But I don't want to end up with a device which has no access (or limited access) to Google Playstore. For example, I'd like to install Microsoft Office 365 which my employer gives us to read company emails. It works great on my Huawei Mate 9.

Based on their response I'm trying to prepare mentally for not getting an update.

I know this is a sore point but I'm looking for a new 8" tablet and i want to upgrade from my Z3 compact that has been on Android 6 for a while. Assuming the US Wifi model never gets updated what do people think about their Mediapad devices? Are you still happy with it? It is still worth getting for a 'high' performing media consumption tablet?

Overall it's a great tablet, no real complaints besides the lack of attention to updates on the US WiFi model.

My 10 just received 8.0.0.198 update in the US. That's a decent sign, my hope it's security update/OS prep for the move to 9.0 or 9.1.

I had no issues, it had already downloaded via wifi so all I had to do was hit install, it completed with no issues.

I got that update today as well but that only adds up to two updates I have received since this tablet was launched. After Huawei abandoned the US Mate 10P it only received some security patch updates which Huawei support told me actually came from Google. It never received any OS bug fixes or feature updates from Huawei. According to the changelog there's nothing in this update other than the July security patch.

Every day I look for information on sht-w09 567 update and see virtually nothing. I thought that someone would know something. Pretty frustrating that Android 10 beta testing is happening and Huawei gives zero information on 9 update for our tablet.

I am wondering what you are complaining about. There is a company forced to stop (almost) all of their business in the US. How can they (and why even should they) provide updates / introduce new devices? Probably it's the wrong people you are complaining about ...

Huawei has stated that the tablet would get Android 9 update. I think it's been done in every other region. Despite the government pissing contest, how hard would it be for Huawei to release the update for USA? That is my complaint.

@cburd business is halted in US. full stop. Providing a software update is doing business ... in addition something may go wrong during the update -> they need to provide services / a place where you can complain / ... what would you say if your device is updated but (for what ever reason) doesn't work any longer and there is no support you can contact / you can speak to?

Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?

Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.

its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

My brother is using a Nokia 7 plus and I had Android 9 weeks before him and even with security updates Nokia isn't faster all the time compared to Xiaomi.

I've never managed to get any kind of custom rom working through TWRP because of the kinstalldeviceopenerror.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.

Nothing official, but I think q1/2020 would be a good guess.

Last year Mi A1 got the Android 9 update on the 23rd of december.
My guess is Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10 in late december.
