Is there a way to get ok google to work on the edge?
Sent from my Samsung Note Edge using Tapatalk
It works just fine on my t-mobile edge. Just scroll to whatever home screen your Google search bar is on and say, Okay Google.
I was playing with the settings the other day to try to save battery power. I must have shut something off, because it doesn't work on mine.

Ok ran google setup and now it works. But it just made the search bar useless. Didn't like the looks of it anyway.

Have you tried this?
Settings -->language and input --> turn on voice search --> turn on, "ok Google" detection --> record your own, "ok Google "
When done, try it and works even when screens off....
That is a different way of getting there, but that is how I got it to work again. (You can also get there by using google setup in the app drawer) of course the OK Google is gone from the widget, but I guess it's better this way.

If you are using Nova launcher, it has the capability to work from any screen of the launcher. (homescreen/alt screens/dashboard)
Been using Nova for a few years and they've done a great job integrating things like this, while adding a little extra capabilities.
If you follow the directions in google setup, you can access OK Google from any screen and also if the lock screen is on if you choose to do so.

I know this but tons of other dont.
No one ever cares to read the manual.
Plus alot of stuff is disable by the carrier if they let them setup the phone.
That's why I always setup my own phone and then later go through all the settings.
I had my Note 3 able to send text messages by voice while the screen was off. And it's nice to be able to tell it to play a song while it's in your pocket.
Voice controls are cool to me. Just suck that's it's always listening so if you say something similar it will wake up.
Someone please help me out here. S voice is giving me some serious pain in the ass right now.
I want to disable S voice completely and only use Google Now but that seems to be impossible.
The Issue:
I can only OK Google from my home page where the Google search widget is. On my G3 I could OK Google from any app any screen and even lockscreen without a hiccup.
S Voice is causing issues pretty much everywhere I want OK Google
What I've tried:
Tried freezing S Voice in which case I lost the ability to OK Google from Anywhere and the lockscreen.
So tried using the S switcher app which was very buggy and had to simply uninstall it...
What I want:
Just plain OK Google and nothing else. All I want to be able to do is OK google from any screen and any app like I did so many times before on all other devices I've owned.
Ideally I would want to be able to activate it from lock screen too but that's not a priority.
Can anyone help me out here.
My friends S4 can do this all seamlessly too but the Edge seems to bug out everywhere because of S Voice
If you go to your Google settings in the app drawer, you'll find the options for ok Google to activate from any screen. I have a t-mobile Edge.
Google Settings->Search and Now
If you're rooted you can install xposed and install the ok Google module which works for any launcher

I can use OK Google from any screen and it's still available from the widget. I am using the stock launcher & have an AT&T Edge. My friend has a T-Mobile Edge and he couldn't get OK Google to work from any screen other than the home screen, even though his OK Google detection settings are the same as mine. He gave up and started using Nova launcher lol.. could be that some devices have an issue with this.

This pretty much sums it up. Like I have said I'm no noob when it comes to using Google Now and know every detail of it's settings. Yes, all my settings are set to activate from any screen yet it fails to activate.
The issue is if I freeze or uninstall S Voice I am no longer able to check mark the Activate from any screen box and if I have S Voice activated it just seems to cause issues with ok google and just a clumsy software overall.
I was just wondering if anyone had a workaround.
You have to freeze S-Voice, then clear data for the Google Search app and then set Google up again. Trust me.

You do have to freeze S voice. Then while in application manager go to Google search and clear data. Then get out of settings because you are correct the option to activate from any screen is gone. Now go to your app drawer and choose Google settings. Click on Search & Now. Click on Voice and set it up from there. The option is available in these settings.

YES! you da best. Now for the sake of it could I do the exact reverse to only use S Voice if I ever feel like using it exclusively?

Well I'm no expert but I don't see why it wouldn't work the same for S voice.
The issue I'm having is Google now won't work when connected to bluetooth. I have mine connected to my Gear S and when I say ok Google the bar stays frozen instead of jumping around showing you it's listening. Soon as I disconnect my watch it works fine. It's annoying!

Edit: False alarm. It is trusted voice at play here. Time to disable that.
I discovered a security bug via Edge Sense today and I hope someone can re-confirm it.
Gesture set to "Launch default voice assistant". Google Assistant for me.
Use Google Assistant to open an app (example "Open Chrome").
Google Assistant will allow you to launch Chrome (or any other app you choose), and your device becomes unlocked automatically.
Is it the same as everyone?
For now, I have stopped using Edge Sense to launch Google Assistant. But what is interesting is, using Edge Sense to launch Camera, does not introduce this behaviour (i.e. device remains locked).
So I wonder is Edge Sense or Google Assistant at fault here?
I just tested this and it takes me to lock screen when trying to start GA via edge sense..

Not happening on my device. Tried both basic and advanced Edge Sense mode, when launching Google Assistant with squeeze, it required me to input my passcode

Do you have trusted voice setup? That would unlock phone if it recognized your voice. At least I think that is how it works.
Oh ya, make sure that you don't have smart unlock on as well

Hello all,
I am very interested in buying this phone. I still have my Xiaomi Mi Mix (that im still trying to sell) and im looking to upgrade to what the Mi Mix shoud've been. I've had a lot of pros and cons to this phone and I want to see if that is still the case. I saw Mr. Mobiles review on the Find-X and was wondering if the New S has the same issues. Please, if you have the phone, had the phone, want the phone and are just holding out for... Mi Max 3/Honor Note 10, please let me know what you think/feel for this phone. I would be very interested.
Does the phone have these software hoops:
Silent or underlivered notifications regardless of system volume settings?
Cant Swipe to dismiss notifications?
no lock screen notifications?
doesnt play nice with custome launchers?
inefficient app switcher?
cant text messages without first logging into an OEM back end?
Prompts for permission to use celluar connection for every single app?
cant use google voice typing, even after Gboard and google voice engine installed?
For me i’m undecided :nex a or nex s

get the global version. no issues
I've the Chinese version with Google play services installed.
I have zero problems, the phone is amazing.
I've logged in with a public Vivo account, so I can change launcher, but stock launcher is good for me.
Everything is working fine, notifications, updates, etc.
I think Chinese, global or Indian version don't create issues for users.
With ADB commands I've deleted all Chinese bloatware, the result is a great battery life.
I received the phone and have been using it since 2/10. I have the 8/256gb version with the Chinese ROM. The phone is awesome with regards to build quality and so on, but I'm extremely frustrated with the issues that I'm seeing daily. I'm ready to ditch it and return to my Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Notifications are all turned off by default and every app notification must be turned on individually. So every new app needs this manual step.
Notifications, even if enabled correctly, lock screen, does not show up on the lock screen
Various apps do not receive new "data" such as emails until opened. (runs in background, just noticed the application freeze option, and turned that off)
Device Administrator removes MS Outlook as device admin regularly, used to be daily. (required by work)
When plugged into USB-C for Android Auto, must change setting to Transfer files, every time in order to activate Android Auto.
Resets Assistive Voice App nightly, removes Google Assistant and elects none, not even breeno voice.
Depending on task, it switches to use the Breeno Browser instead of Chrome as an intermediary and therefore does not fully like to the next task.
Swiping down on home screen brings up breeno search via breeno browser.
Cannot activate Location Sharing Services even if Location is turned on. I think this has to do w/ limitations on the "Region"
Things that I know does not work
Cannot use 3rd party messaging app. Once 3rd party app is set as default, it switches back to Oppo msgs app due to "security"
Cannot use another Launcher.
Cannot use Google Assistant wake up phrase
Can anyone else confirm if you're also experiencing the above? I'm willing to reset the phone but I think these are "defaults" and not like a choice I made during set-up to cause these issues. Thanks for reading.
The issues you mention are common and are part of the challenge of owning a phone with a Chinese rom. The trade-off is that you own a unique phone with awesome hardware.
I have been able to get all notifications to work though adjusting the notification options as you say, but you can also adjust the power saver and start-up options. You can also lock apps in the recent tasks screen.
You can also uninstall some of the built-in Chinese apps via adb. See the thread in the Find X forum. For example I have uninstalled the browser so it never comes up. I have not uninstalled the launcher as I am ok with the Oppo one.
Issues I have not been able to resolve: changing the default messaging and assistant apps for the long term.
For me, I know the experience of buying a phone with a Chinese rom is never going to be as smooth as a pixel or Samsung in terms of usability, but I love the fact that it is unique and appreciate the hardware (eg charging speed).
Unfortunately, the uniqueness of the phone does not overwhelm these limitations that causes daily resetting of certain defaults for me.
I'm ok w/ not using the Launcher and some other items like google assistant. However, other limitations really create barriers that can't be looked past for me.
I think I'll look for an opportunity to get the Xiaomi Mi 10 pro when possible and sell the Reno Ace.
So I've been keeping an eye out on the interwebs and came across a couple of things about OnePlus adding in options to have the Shelf back one way or another. None of these methods have worked on the Op8 I just got yesterday from T-Mobile. The swipe down option doesn't show anything, and the newest update that supposedly added a toggle has added nothing. I checked and the version is the newest, even tried manually installing the apk just in case. I do know that the Google discover page also has a useless T-Mobile tab on it as well, and I'm betting that crap is what has this not working. Anybody else out there have the same issue? I've searched all over and only one other person has commented about this problem and they have no replies on the OnePlus forums.
I don't have answer for you about the shelf feature, since I've never used it. But the T-Mobile tab on the discover feed is part of the T-Mobile Play app. I removed it and the tab was gone. So I doubt that is the problem you're running into.

Are you rooted or did you just disable the app, cuz I just tried disabling it and the t-mobile tab is still there. Do you have the new little toggle switch to turn on the Shelf, or the swipe down on notification tray option in the launcher settings? Cuz I'm missing both of those and my only guess is cuz this is a t-mobile branded device instead of straight from oneplus maybe?

Not rooted. I use Nova, not stock launcher, which is why I don't normally use the shelf feature. I did switch back to stock launcher and do not see any mention of the shelf, even when updated to the newest beta. However, with both Nova and stock, I have no T-Mobile tab in the discover feed with T-Mobile Play disabled. And this is also a branded device, not direct from OnePlus.

Gotcha, thanks. Hopefully it can get confirmed or not soon cuz I'm not interested in other homescreen apps personally, I loved oneplus's on the 5T and that's what I'm missing.
I do not think they use the exact same launcher in the tmobile version as the global version. Global version had shelf by default and not Google feed (at least it was that way when I had the OnePlus 6t) and the tmobile variant had Google feed. It may be the same on the OP8 so I wouldn't expect that feature soon.
I disabled the T-Mobile Play app. Did a reboot and the T Mobile tab disappeared.
Still no shelf update though.

The update is available in the play store mentioning this feature but it doesn't show in home screen settings as it should. I have not cleared data in the launcher to see if it will show though.
I have the tmobile version of the oneplus 8 as well and yeah they totally screwed with the oxygenos version on their models because I'm up to date as well and shelf is missing completely. The ONE feature I wanted to keep from my 5T and they added it back but no luck on my part. If I could refund this damn purchase and buy directly from oneplus I would.
What is shelf?
