Is there a way to get ok google to work on the edge?
Sent from my Samsung Note Edge using Tapatalk
It works just fine on my t-mobile edge. Just scroll to whatever home screen your Google search bar is on and say, Okay Google.
I was playing with the settings the other day to try to save battery power. I must have shut something off, because it doesn't work on mine.

Ok ran google setup and now it works. But it just made the search bar useless. Didn't like the looks of it anyway.

Have you tried this?
Settings -->language and input --> turn on voice search --> turn on, "ok Google" detection --> record your own, "ok Google "
When done, try it and works even when screens off....
That is a different way of getting there, but that is how I got it to work again. (You can also get there by using google setup in the app drawer) of course the OK Google is gone from the widget, but I guess it's better this way.

If you are using Nova launcher, it has the capability to work from any screen of the launcher. (homescreen/alt screens/dashboard)
Been using Nova for a few years and they've done a great job integrating things like this, while adding a little extra capabilities.
If you follow the directions in google setup, you can access OK Google from any screen and also if the lock screen is on if you choose to do so.

I know this but tons of other dont.
No one ever cares to read the manual.
Plus alot of stuff is disable by the carrier if they let them setup the phone.
That's why I always setup my own phone and then later go through all the settings.
I had my Note 3 able to send text messages by voice while the screen was off. And it's nice to be able to tell it to play a song while it's in your pocket.
Voice controls are cool to me. Just suck that's it's always listening so if you say something similar it will wake up.
Someone please help me out here. S voice is giving me some serious pain in the ass right now.
I want to disable S voice completely and only use Google Now but that seems to be impossible.
The Issue:
I can only OK Google from my home page where the Google search widget is. On my G3 I could OK Google from any app any screen and even lockscreen without a hiccup.
S Voice is causing issues pretty much everywhere I want OK Google
What I've tried:
Tried freezing S Voice in which case I lost the ability to OK Google from Anywhere and the lockscreen.
So tried using the S switcher app which was very buggy and had to simply uninstall it...
What I want:
Just plain OK Google and nothing else. All I want to be able to do is OK google from any screen and any app like I did so many times before on all other devices I've owned.
Ideally I would want to be able to activate it from lock screen too but that's not a priority.
Can anyone help me out here.
My friends S4 can do this all seamlessly too but the Edge seems to bug out everywhere because of S Voice
If you go to your Google settings in the app drawer, you'll find the options for ok Google to activate from any screen. I have a t-mobile Edge.
Google Settings->Search and Now
If you're rooted you can install xposed and install the ok Google module which works for any launcher

I can use OK Google from any screen and it's still available from the widget. I am using the stock launcher & have an AT&T Edge. My friend has a T-Mobile Edge and he couldn't get OK Google to work from any screen other than the home screen, even though his OK Google detection settings are the same as mine. He gave up and started using Nova launcher lol.. could be that some devices have an issue with this.

This pretty much sums it up. Like I have said I'm no noob when it comes to using Google Now and know every detail of it's settings. Yes, all my settings are set to activate from any screen yet it fails to activate.
The issue is if I freeze or uninstall S Voice I am no longer able to check mark the Activate from any screen box and if I have S Voice activated it just seems to cause issues with ok google and just a clumsy software overall.
I was just wondering if anyone had a workaround.
You have to freeze S-Voice, then clear data for the Google Search app and then set Google up again. Trust me.

You do have to freeze S voice. Then while in application manager go to Google search and clear data. Then get out of settings because you are correct the option to activate from any screen is gone. Now go to your app drawer and choose Google settings. Click on Search & Now. Click on Voice and set it up from there. The option is available in these settings.

YES! you da best. Now for the sake of it could I do the exact reverse to only use S Voice if I ever feel like using it exclusively?

Well I'm no expert but I don't see why it wouldn't work the same for S voice.
The issue I'm having is Google now won't work when connected to bluetooth. I have mine connected to my Gear S and when I say ok Google the bar stays frozen instead of jumping around showing you it's listening. Soon as I disconnect my watch it works fine. It's annoying!

I cant get it to work on my nexus s.. I'm on the latest cm7 nightly and whenever I reboot mynpgone it says noled is on
I had that behavior on stock already. Just learnt to do with out it and now I it does not bother me.

Works fine for me on all CM7 builds. Check your settings and also make sure you have a valid lockscreen for it to work.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
what exactly do you mean a valid lockscreen? I am using stock
Some people like to use third party apps which disable the stock lockscreen like "nolock" which doesn't work with noled. Go to manage apps, noled, clear data. Leave all settings intact except enabling the notifications you want shown. Should work out the box. Don't enable blink.

I still have not gotten this to work with google voice..
Does anyone know if having a screen off profile in setcpu will interfere with this?

After unlocking my phone, I get to my home screen with all my folders etc. As soon as I swipe to the right, I get Google Now!
It's as if it's an always on widget. On my N4, I would invoke Google Now by holding the Home key and swiping upwards (which I can also do with my N5).
Is this something that can be switched off or is this an integrated function of the system?
I'm not looking to switch off Google Now before anybody asks.

As far as I can see the only option would be to either A) Uninstall Google Now, or B) Install a different Home Launcher ... Neither are suitable resolutions to your question. I personally like having it as a home screen since I turned off my softkeys in Lieu of LMS
The only thing I can think of is switch launchers to nova or something similar. You would lose the "OK Google" function from the launcher though., so not a good solution if you use that function. As far as I know there is now way to remove it from the stock launcher.

Thanks guys.
I don't mind having it but just wasn't sure if it was a feature that can be turned off without completely disabling Google Now.
Battery life is quite impressive on this thing even with it always on!

It does not disable Google now entirely just the extra screen, maybe you should try it before you respond with useless replies.

Have you got any other voice activation apps installed? I gave "Utter" a quick try, but even though it has support for OK Google hotword detection, I found Utter did end up killing it on occasion, so I got rid of it

Can you think of what you might have installed when it was working fine until it stopped?
Easy street scenario is to try try and clear the cache and data if that doesn't work, factory reset before we get too rambunctious.
Can I give my current app list. So that it could be easy to troubleshoot. These are my currently running apps.
Notification toggle, facebook, applock, cover, wechat, whatsapp ,exdialor, dashclock widget, Google services, glance, light manager, app launcher for dash clock, Google keyboard.

I think it would be best to try and clear the cache and data from the Google experience launcher. Settings---> apps----> find launcher it is blue with a house icon in the middle.
It doesn't look like any of those apps could cause any conflict.

it didn't have any cache, it says total 16kb and cache is 0.00B
Then you will most likely have to do a factory reset I cannot think of anything else.
I just thought that maybe you change one of the hotwords and try that and see if it works, long shot but worth a try,

I thought you could change words to say to make google activate but I could be wrong. If it's still not working factory reset.
If you are using different launcher, try to go back and use google launcher.

Anyone found an app that will wake the phone up and open google now with a command? Open Mic+ wont work properly for some reason plus it leaves the mic on all the time.

I actually believe you can accomplish what you are talking about with an app called tasker. There is a plugin that allows that very thing along with custom voice commands. Tasker does require some tinkering and setup but there is plenty of tutorials and information on Xda about it. Hope that gets you going

To use command the mic will have to be listening all the time believe. Would probably kill your battery life but would be cool to skip lock screen with voice.

That let's you use it from the lock screen, the screen still has to be on. The OP was looking for something that would do it with the screen off. I am sure tasker can do this though I have yet to try it myself.

I don't understand how tasker could keep the mic on when the screen is off. Seems like a major battery killer either way.

My MotoX had this feature. Not sure how it was accomplished, but with the phone sitting next to me on night stand I could use Ok Google and use it without ever having to touch the phone.
My advice? Get a Android Wear device. I just got a LG G Watch from Cowboom for less than $80 delivered. It was refurbished, but in perfect condition.
It has the "always on" Google Now listening ability, but I think it's actually better than the Moto X because you don't have to pull your phone out to see the results - they come right on the watch. If it is too small, then you can push the results to your phone, but the vast majority of the time getting the results on the watch work just fine.
I too wanted the always listening capabilities of the Moto X for my G3. But after getting the watch, I can say that I'm much happier having the watch because it does so much more too.
So I'm just on the basic stock rom rooted on the sprint version. I've noticed every 30 sec when im doing something on it, it will freeze and then respond 3 seconds later, as well as songs on blue tooth lag as well. Any suggestions. Oh and my ok google available everywhere is greyed out and im on English and i believe svoice is enabled. My favorites wont display on the edge bar either when i add them and press done.

xposed yes
I had the same problem, as after i installed xposed S Health stopped working.
This suggestion that's posted on forums everywhere should fix the problem:
Uninstall Xposed framework
Open build.prop in with ES File Explorer or something similar
Find: ro.securestorage.support=true & change to false
Reinstall xposed framework
If S Health isnt working clear app data for S-Health and HealthService
Restart your phone
Source: https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sour..._th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=xposed+framework+lag&spell=1
I am having real lag issues sending and receiving text messages, some will send but will hang in sending for up to 10 minutes or so, others will simply say failed after a while... I don't have Xposed installed, but I've done the build prop edit just in case it would help... still having the lag in my messages.... anyone with an idea please offer your assistance. Most of my communication would be via text, it almost defeats the purpose of my phone not being able to send or know if I'm receiving a text...
Sad face
Edit:
Just did another reboot after my build prop edit and it appears that did the trick, however I'll wait another day to conform.

Mine also randomly freezes while browsing. I believe it's ram related as its almost maxed out straight out the box (thanks Samsung!). And what do u mean by Google now being greyed out? Like won't record when you talk? I also have that issue if that's what you mean. It's bluetooth related for me, as soon as I disconnect my Gear S it works fine.

Is your device rooted? Try installing Seeder from the android store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lcis.seeder&hl=en_GB
It costs a couple of dollars but your should definitely see a massive improvement in performance
In terms of high ram usage, this can actually be a good thing as android manages the ram differently. By having applications loaded into the ram allows for instant access & increased performance. Have a read of the following URL or search for some articles on google about this topic, makes interesting reading.
