Hi,
I have a G920I which is running Mipa atm, I've also tried running, LOS, RR, Frankenstein all with this same issue of other people hearing themselves echo when on the phone with them.
I've tried looking up whatever I can and from what I can tell it seems to be that the background noise microphone isn't suppressing background noise and is somehow picking up the sound coming through the speaker. The only temp fix I have at the moment is to use wired headphones but was hoping for a more permanent solution. Any help appreciated!

On my new thunderbolt, I am experiencing a very low level hiss or white noise sound in the earpiece when making calls through the default htc dialer. This noise does not change regardless of anyone talking nor does changing the volume alter it. From reading and experimenting online, I have found two solutions:
1. Enabling hearing aid compatibility removes the hiss
2. Using a SIP dialer instead of the default phone dialer there is no hiss
I would stick with solution 1, except you can't adjust the volume with this setting. Does anyone have any suggestions for why hearing aid compatibility removes the hiss and if it is possible to modify the gain or other audio settings to replicate this fix without enabling that setting (and removing volume control)? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows of a good replacement phone dialer (not SIP) I would be interested in testing it on the thunderbolt as well.
Thanks!

I have this issue also...here's what HTC had to say about it...
I understand that you have a problem with a sound like white noise on your calls with the Thunderbolt (except when you have your the phone in hearing aid mode). I believe that the issue with the phone calls may, illogically, be with the noise cancelation software of the device, and in that case there is a fix being developed for it as this noise cancelation software is also affecting videos recorded on the device. I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced, and please keep an eye on www.htc.com/us and www.twitter.com/htc for the latest news.
I installed the leaked RUU and still have the hiss...very annoying...
currently running update-cm-9-20120404-NIGHTLY-galaxys2-signed.zip
from the 04-04-2012, on my galaxy s2.
but when i make a call, all the other part can hear is a loud scratchy noise. if i then, during call press, the mic button, makes noise go away, but it then becomes completely silent
it does not do any difference, if I use the phone mic, or my headset.
anyone any ideas, on how i can fix this issue ?
have been trying some other roms, but the problem persist... ? when i record something with a recorder app, it works perfectly..
only during calls it seems broken ?
I'm having a problem where the other person cannot hear me in calls. It only happens in AOSP 4.4.2 ROMS like Carbon or Slim. If I turn on speakerphone they can hear me fine. I have tried turning off noise suppression but no luck. When I flashed a stock 4.3 TW ROM (CleanRom8), the other person could hear me fine when i turned off noise suppression. I am really not sure if i have a software or a hardware problem but any help is appreciated.
When listening to a WhatsApp Voice Message via earpiece (i.e. proximity sensor) and another message arrives or any other notification, the audio is routed to the louder speaker for few seconds (length of notification audio) then routed back earpiece. So everybody around will hear that audio message.
This is extremely annoying is privacy disaster . Is it happening anyone ? Does anyone know how to solve?
Phone: Xiaomi Mi 5
All roms are affected (even AOSP ROMs)
i face this problem too. i feel that it is not whatsapp's problem but how the firmware handles notifications itself. i may be wrong though
Any thoughts of this guy's?
I have the exact same problem on my Nexus6P for a while. I'm not sure, but I think since I bought it. The same happened to a friend of mine with his Nexus5X. Haven't been able to solve it yet.
My only workaround is to react quickly to take the phone off my ear and resume the audio once the notification ringtone has finished playing.
no luck so far? I wonder how is this tolerated by millions of users? it's quite annoying :crying:
Sound
I got this problem too, but only in LineageOS builds, and I've reported this to the developer of my ROM (Moto G4 Play - Harpia) and he didn't understand the issue. On Pixel Experience ROM there ir no such a problem.
This is a rooted nexus 5 using lineageos 14.1 (based on nougat) and I'm having sound problems only during phone calls.
The party I call cannot hear me (I can hear them) unless I turn speaker on. Then they can hear me but the sound is garbled and they hear reverberation picking up their own voices back.
Searching for a solution on the web I found
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TxCUKLhMNBM
I changed the build prop they recommended to false and now the other party can hear me fine on (non-speaker) phone calls. ?
But, I still have a problem if I turn my speaker on. When I do that the microphone picks up ambient noise and the other party hears their own conversation back as garbled double sound. If anyone knows how to fix this I would be grateful.
Ideas?
Nobody has any idea how to prevent the mic from picking up and transmitting the phone speaker sound when on speaker phone?
My wife's identical nexus 5 doesn't do this when it's on speaker phone.
