I am actually surprised that the LG skin is actually pretty good once you move past the ugly TW like launcher/icons. Seems less bloated than TW yet has many features. I have Google now launcher along with icon changer to change the hideous square icons.
Things I like;
1)dual screen,
2)qslide,
3)being able to customize nav bar, 4)being able to set apps to immersive mode useful for apps that don't do that especially games.
Things I don't like;
1)the launcher and the icons.
2)I don't like tab view, fortunately you can change to list view. B
3) battery life, seems like software is optimized to its fullest potential in terms of battery life
Also what does LG call their UI?
Would be nice if the had a menu button for the home for the rare app that actually needs it
Also is there a way to get either the battery icon or the percentage, but not both?
No ui is more hideous than touchjizz. Ugliest thing ever

The problem is that if you use a different launcher the icons remain. For instance using Google now launcher the icons look especially atrocious.

Actually with LG Launcher, they have their own way. Long press on the icon whos image you want to change. A lil paint brush will appear at the right side of the icon. Press it, it will take you to some default alternative icons LG has in place for you. Additionally, if you have downloaded or made your own...image, you can use that. Its fairly easy, give it a shot

The icon packs are not compatible with the launcher. I usually download icon GRAPHIC packs from google. Can even looking at some icon community on g+ for those who like posting the graphics. The actual apk can't be install. Hope that make sense.

Heads up, the menu button is still there. Long press on the recent apps button (square). That's it. Works on all the apps I've tried so far.

Glad to see LG keeping that menu button, I know I don't use it often but there are times I need it on my G3. LG did right by this phone...
Matt
The apps button long press for menu is also the same on my Note pro 12.2 tablet.
I was so annoyed when I saw they had gotten rid of the menu button and found out about the long press after some googling.
Tested it right away on my v10...relief!

IMO, once you replace the launcher and the icons it actually resembles stock android a little.
The Glim Icon Pack on Google Play works with the default LG Home launcher
I use Nova Launcher... Aside from status bar and settings the phone looks pretty close to vanilla Android when compared to Touchwiz or Sense. However there's always purists who will say it's not enough.
It keeps me happy, my G3 is still pretty snappy running Nova. Different strokes!

I still will always prefer stock android. I also like sense as well, it doesn't look like stock but a lot of the layout is close even though they use their own icons and color schemes.
I really hope CM takes on the V10. The second screen will probably be a challenge as it's not really a second screen.
Hi all
I just bought an S7 edge after trading in my iPhone 6S. Overall, its been a great experience. However, the 'Always On' feature seems little more than a glorified clock.
I was surprised to see there wasn't already an app or tweak to customize the 'Always On' screen. Ah well, maybe I should make one instead of complaining (I'm a computer science student, not an Android expert by a long shot but have done my fair share)? So off to find a way...
Technical Overview: Going into the settings, there's an option for setting a picture with a black background to stay 'Always On' instead of the usual clock/call&message counter thingy. This looks very promising. Might even be a little too easy. How about an app that runs in the background and replaces the image with a custom one. So say a whatsapp message arrives, the app draws the message on the custom image and viola!
Okay so maybe it wont be THAT easy, since I suspect the phone just reads the image once on locking and doesn't continually update it. That would make sense after all. Still maybe a refresh can be forced, will have to look into this.
Feedback? This is after all FOSS development, so I'm loath to do start anything without community feedback. Do you guys think this will be useful? Any other comments , suggestions etc. etc.?
Also first post on XDA; long time lurker though.

I'm definitely optimistic about this. Going to give it a first attempt when I find some time later this week.
Also, root will probably be needed if the wallpapers are on system files or if a reload has to be forced to view new notifications. Maybe a less functional mode can later be added which doesn't require root.

So yes, i would definitely love to see some development on this!

there is already lots of AOD similar apps with customizable notification display
I've developed an android app for bringing Always On to all android devices with AMOLED screens. It's called "Always On: Ambient Clock" . And it is highly customizable.
I can't post a link now since I have only 5 posts but you can search for it on Play Store.

Cool, just tried it. being able to see the battery % would be great too. and let it move around the screen like it does on the S7, so it wont burn the AMOLED. Plus add more features, will be a great replacement AOD :good:

My question is; is there anything special Samsung is doing to get extra battery life out of their AOD? I understand the big advantage is from the AMOLED, but is it just a case of any image with a lot of black has the same advantage as Samsung's AOD? Or have they triggered something special to get all those pixels off. And what about processes that need to run to display the AOD? I assumed that was part of the reason why Samsung's AOD was so minimal in what it can display - because those were basic things already running on the phone and didn't create any extra load.
Basically if there was something special about Samsung's AOD, it would seem to make sense to expand and develop that and build on their existing battery optimization (whatever that might be - special screen setting or special minimal process in the background etc). Otherwise bring on the third party apps!

i think as long your screen is dark thoes pixels will turn it self off BUT i dont know how much more third party AOD apps will drain battery because it will have to be running in the background even the screen is on? but i think the samsung AOD it triggered on of when it detected that your screen is off so it wont drain battery on background service while screen is on(im just guessing this cuz its part of the system it would be easy to trigger it on and off instead of let it run in the background)
It needs the ability for everything being displayed to move around. Stationary is not the way to go. Worse for displays.
Also needs ambient light detection so it can switch brightness on the go.

Great job.
And what I was saying is on my s7 edge I can use the wave to wake feature and the pocket detection.
For the s7 edge it waits a few second before turning off the always on display when in your pocket.
You should set a slight delay for the in pocket activation. Or make it less sensitive. There must be a way to make it happen.

Did you get a white navbar too?
I think the white navbar icon with white background is not a bug, when you're doing something with your phone and you're not touching the navbar area, the icons in the navbar will fade to an off-white colour. But when you're doing something that involves even just touching the blank parts of the navbar area, the icons will show their true colours.
The real bug is actually the navbar icons are way too close to each other.

I don't think it's a bug, my navbar changes color depending on app. It does go white on Spotify which is all black so it looks bad, but on other apps it does change to black like messages, Twitter or anytime I use the keyboard. I'm guessing the app picks the color unless the app isn't updated so it defaults to white.

Hello all,
So I believe most of us should have the Android P update by now. I'm intrigued as to what you all think.
Sadly, the update has downgraded the experience of a great phone. Here are the issues which popped up for me after the update:
- Very slow fingerprint recognition and unlock
- Android crashes when you turn off wifi
- A noticeable drop in performance speed all round (animations are slow or clunky, apps are slow to open or to load)
- No digital wellbeing app which is a major part of Android P
- Unable to install Pixel Launcher 9
We spend quite a large amount of our time using our phones and ever since the update, the whole experience has taken a hit and now, and it's very noticeable. I'm desperate to get off this phone now, which is sad because, before the update, The phone ran beautifully without any dramas.
What do you guys think?
Have you done factory reset? I don't have any of the problems you say.
Digital Wellbeing is installed. Do the search in settings and then you can add it to the rest of the applications (there is a switch to do it).
The only problem I find is that the adaptive battery is not in place. I have to look for it in the settings. In the videos I saw of the taiwan rom it seemed that it was in settings -> battery, but in the European one it didn't. Not a big deal, but there it is.
I can't tell you anything about the pixel launcher because I use default HTC Sense.
No I haven't. I don't have the time to reset and and restore everything. An update should just work and not require a factory reset.
I managed to get Digital Wellbeing working but it needed some effort. The version from the Play Store wouldn't let me download it because, apparently, it is incompatible with the phone. Weird.
Anyway, so I had to download the APK, install, download Activity Launcher, install, then use Activity Launcher to show the Digital Wellbeing app in the app list and also allow it usage permissions. Then I was able to use the app.
Another issue which popped up after the update I forgot to mention above was that the navigation bar at the bottom has reduced in size, which is good, but unfortunately it still behaves as if it was the same size as before, so when you're typing and you press the space bar, it sometimes thinks you've pressed the home button and takes you home. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING.
One other thing which I've realised is that you're unable to use the new Android P navigation bar because HTC have their own version of the navigation bar (which is dated now) and this cannot be overridden. Another annoyance.

Ha! Extremely sound logic. I bring up issues a recent update has introduced and your suggestion is I sell my phone and move to a far inferior platform. You really are a shining beacon of brilliant intelligence. Bravo to you, good sir.
Hi guys,
Anyone experience WiFi connection with hidden SSID? My newly update U11+ unable to connect to hidden SSID, but it is okay with broadcast SSID.
Please help. Thanks.
update:
Sorry guys, my stupidity didn't check the setting properly at the bottom of the there is setting the mentioned if it is hidden. checked the box , viola it is working now. Thanks.
although I was a little annoyed with some of the changes at the start, such as clock now on left in status bar (the rest I forget tbh), overall I love it.
same speed as always across the board; apps, animations etc. with plenty of apps/files loaded.
1 thing that's really stood out for me has been the (learning) adaptive brightness. it's just awesome!
and so are the colours. screen looks so much better since pie, very impressed.

I think it is a good idea to factory reset when there is a big version change. For small versions it is enough to clear the cache.
Regarding digital well-being, I have been able to update it directly from the play store.
I see the navigation bar well. It doesn't frustrate me. I think it works correctly. And Android P gesture navigation would like to have it as an option but I'm sure I would change it back to the traditional method, so I don't worry too much.

Haven't met all the issues you're describing! My U11+ is working fine with Pie, just as it was with Oreo!

About The same.Slightly better.Adaptive brightness working better in pie, giving a little bit of juice.Overall i like it more now.Plus, with Quickstep recents it's awesome
i am finding this pie update very good...the phone ui looks more fresh now, the auto brightness works perfectly and i noticed a huge improvement in battery life...and i can finally use last gcam version for incredible shot!

Can't say for sure as I'm still on pie, but have you tried to disable the automatic rotation icon? Kinda looks like it...

Just tried with System UI tuner app but it's not that.
You may go to Settings -> Screen -> Statusbar icon manager (or something like that) and disable items on by one. If it is a system icon it will disappear after disabling an item. If not you should look for an installed app.
BTW, where did you get that nice background image?

Didn't work...
I got this image from instagram
I found that the icon is caused by my keyboard app (Smart Keyboard) but haven't figured out how to make it disappear without changing from keyboard app...

Could you please elaborate on this and add something of importance to the question asked by the OP?

Would you be able to disable the icon in Settings > Display > Status bar icon manager?

It's not among the icons offered toggles.
