Hello,
I have a question, am I the only one having SoT this bad? I'm on the EMUI 8.0. WiFi and Mobile data always on, auto brightness. I mostly stream music through Spotify and use social media apps like Instagram. Is there any possible way to improve the battery life?
For starters turn off mobile data when you dont need it, also check if some rogue app is draining battery.

I don't know if this would help, but if your bootloader is unlocked you can try the chihayafuru kernel. Extended my battery life significantly.

I didn't alter anything. I just flashed the kernel, that's it. Although i'm running RRos with it.

Lowered minimum frequency to 408mhz and still works fine.
Would like to put to sleep some cores, tough.

battery life is mostly depended on YOUR personal setup, YOUR apps installed, YOUR control of your apps, and YOUR personal data/phone signal.

bingo, you just have to experiment. What works for one person may not work for another.
Hi guys!
I was looking for ways to increase battery life.
As far as I know you can undervolt and decrese CPU speed
Undervolt does not affect performance but does increase temperature right?
Decrease CPU speed obviously decreases the speed of the phone.
Both these things can be achieved by using a custom kernel right? I heard of franco kernel as being the best for these things...
Any other ways of increasing battery life?
Cheers!

Why not try Franco first before starting to tweak. The kernel's default settings are reputedly optimal for that elusive balance between performance and battery life.

Yeah, give it a try. Since I installed it, the phone (and my N7, too) has become snappier, and battery life on standby is awesome (like 1-2%/hr). SOT, on the other hand, is still lamentable, even at dim levels. If you do go Franco, I recommend getting the FK updater app on the Play Store.

TWRP, without a doubt. It's completely stable, and easy to use. CWM used to be really wonky; that's why I switched.

Philz touch. Its cwm based, more features than twrp and cwm put together and more stable than both too.

You can set up virtually any configuration with Franco. But, again, I suggest you try his default settings first. He put a lot into figuring it out, and his findings likely are the most reliable. I've never felt the need to customize the kernel any differently.
Some people, however, really like to mess around with the settings as a kind of hobby. I used to do so, and it's a lot of fun (and headaches). So, if you want to get into it, go for it. There are numerous apps you can use to tweak all those settings.

I noticed that by default it has 2 cores working and then uses the other 2 when required... This might sound stupid but did stock already do this?
Try greenify and xposed framework.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify‎
Im running the catalysm rom + franco kernel undervolted (which by the way decreases the temperature) and under clocked to 1728mhz. I also am using greenify + xposed. Finally I turn off location reporting, touch sounds, always scanning wifi and set location to "battery saving" mode. Without any gaming I get around 5hr of screen on time. Straight gaming gives me around 2.5hr of SOT. Usually I get around 4hr from my regular day. Any other tips for battery?
I am sorry but.. after all the methods to save battery and even doing the fix in @timmaaa's thread about play services. Attached is what I am getting. Phone is new, but its been two cycles. Its stock CM11s, what it came with, it is rooted. No custom kernels. The brightness has been on auto mostly and when not thee, its at minimum. Cause auto at night is a bit bright.
I was expecting Galaxy Note like performance with that battery but this is worse than my 2yr old Galaxy S4

Yup, have greenify with the donate addon. :/
Maybe you should try clean flash again. Emm maybe.
You should try to flash custom ROMs, I actually had the same issue you're facing with stock 11s.
Now i'm using SlimKat and the battery life is way better. Maybe you can try other custom ROMs such as PA 4.5 Stable, Mahdi ROM.

I could get up to 2 days with 6 hours OST.
Will lowering the voltages improve battery life? If so, how can I go about doing it? I don't really need so much power since I rarely game and all I do is stream media and normal web-browsing.
fist steps are to root and install a custom kernel, if available..the use a kernel modifying program and make your changes that way..
I think you can't since kernel is closed source for our device, might be able with custom ROM. The thing is you don't really want to. Processor has 4 small cores for simple tasks and power saving, it only uses big cores on heavy use. The manufacturer has alredy given you the best option and if the phone is working fine why mess with it? For extra 30 min battery life? It's just not worth it. If you wanna try custom roms buy some older device or Nexus and try it out. Huawei just works from the box.
Without a custom kernel it's impossible. We should get sources soon so just wait
But yeah. Underclocking should improve battery life..
Edit: Sources are up!

Makes sense. Thank you! I'm still happy with the device. I was just curious as to how/if it was possible and if there were really any benefits. But yeah, for 30 minutes? Might as well just turn on (Ultra) Power Saving mode.
I'm on liquid remix. Tried greenify, titanium freezing and couple of things but nothing seems to work. Battery drains with 5hour sot and around 10 hour standby. It's the same case with other couple of custom roms. Kindly help me I'm what's best rom and Kernel for battery. I want only battery on priority
I'm in stock, rooted. Franco kernel, battery mode. Dark theme everything on substratum and get around 7/8hs SOT.

Idle time?
Tried alot. For battery is say OOS.
I constantly get 7 to 9 hours screen on with my usage over 36 hours to 48 hours in-between charge.
I use this debloat script: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...l-tomatot-debloater-basic-script-to-t3869427/
And I'm testing this kernel atm. Happy with it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-renderzenith-op6-t-t3883994
I think I used all kernels on XDA and tested them for around 7 days, all are good I have to say. About same performance and battery. Features are user dependent so look for the one that you feel like will fit your needs.
Stock OOS is the best for battery performance. I think the only one that got close to rivaling it is treskmod. I could be wrong on the treskmod part but OOS for sure is the best for battery.
Kernel is largely preference. All kernels here I tested were amazing. Focusing purely on battery I would say Bluspark, Smurf(battery profile), and Render are the best. Franco is also there too but I haven't seen him update his kernel in a while now and there's a vocal few reporting camera issues with his kernel.

A noob question. How to choose Kernel profile. Because i know only flashing Kernel though twrp
In my opinion the best kernel is smurfkernel, great performance and battery life 8h SOT.

Check the OP of Smurf it explains it. Easiest way would be the spectrum app.
OOS with RenderZenith for me
OOS with Elemental kernel at around 6hours of SOT with around 36 hours without charge.
Although I think the Rom is more important for the good battery life.

Hi everyone,
End of the story.
If you want very good battery life. Stay on stock. I'm very happy to share my battery screenshot.
No custom ROM no custom kernel giving better battery than stock oos. I tried even so called better battery friendly kernels and omni ROM (omni has been said better battery ROM than stock).

Majority of the thread said stock OOS. But I guess some like to see for themselves.
I have the same setup as you plus xXx. Getting great battery life not to mention the performance of it. Probably going to replace EX for daily driver duty. Burned through 50% of the battery with 4 hours SoT so far. Think I've found my winner; not going to switch to anything else anymore.
