Issue with 1.25.617.4 update - HTC U12+ Questions & Answers

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but after I updated to the latest OTA update (1.25.617.4) I can no longer access call forwarding settings nor call waiting settings. It gives me error saying 'Network Error or sim card error' when trying to view either. I thought it was an issue with my sim cause I just used the one from my HTC 10 so went to AT&T and got a new one only to have same issue. Did a factory reset and same issue. After that I figured it could have possibly been the update, so I used the ROM exe from HTC to get back to 1.21.617.3 and can access those settings again. It was nice to get VoLTE, but I don't want to lose some settings access to get that.
If anybody has had the same issue, have you found a fix other then going back to 1.21.617.3 or staying on 1.25.617.4 and not being able to access call forwarding and call waiting?
Thanks

Interesting. Mine is completely normal with the same SIM card from my HTC 10 as well. Have you tried wiping the cache partition? That actually helped me get VoLTE on my HTC 10.
Here's a link how to do it in case you don't know...

Yeah, tried that as well. I don't know if it matters but I see that link is from T-Mobile, I use AT&T.

I know, but it's just instructions (from T-Mobile) on how to do it on your HTC 10.

No issues here, on t-mobile and used same sim as HTC 10. I know it doesn't resolve your issue, but maybe there is an issue with the update and AT&T. See if anyone else on AT&T has same issue.

I'm on Verizon and I get the following when I try to go to either Call forwarding or Additional Settings. It never gets any further.
Have not tried going to these on the previous OTAs.

I was hoping to hear from others on AT&T (and other networks) by posting here. Seems T-Mobile is ok and Verizon has a similar but different issue.

I don't know if I mentioned it before but I'm on AT&T, and everything is normal.

I'm on AT&T, U12+ on 1.25 firmware (+ Viper 1.01), SIM card is from HTC 10 (actually even further back than that, same SIM card since 2014 or 2015).
No issues accessing call forwarding / call waiting settings. All of those features are working for me (forwarding to YouMail, waiting definitely works, so does conference/merging calling) and also now VoLTE.
You mentioned it didn't work on 1.25 even after factory resetting. Were you modded in any way? So you RUU'ed back to 1.21 and it works. Have you tried OTA'ing back to 1.25 and seeing if it now works? I'm just trying to think of anything. Sorry dude, that stinks. I'm on 1.25 and heavily modified and it all works...

I get the same error message as well. But im on T-mobile. Really doesn't matter to me personally as i don't use settings in there.
But you're not the only one that gets the error.

Hadn't done anything to phone at the time, was completely stock, nothing done at all as of yet. Only thing i have done now after going back to 1.21 is unlock the bootloader and so far that's all. Going to try taking the OTA to 1.25 again and see if it wasn't just some fluke of nature.
Will update afterwards.
Edit: went back to 1.25, getting same error and can't access call forwarding or call waiting settings.

I'm still on the original firmware (no rush to update as of yet) and I get the same situation when accessing those settings.

1.25 RUU is available. I'm on T-Mobile with an Unlocked boot loader and custom kernel however everything works on this end.

I have the 1.25 update and I'm on ATT, and I apparently have the issue as well. No bother, though, since I don't use call forwarding.
And, this is the sim card from my 10.

I am on AT&T and my firmware 1.25.617.4 and everything working fine here

I realize this thread is a a little old but I am having the same issue. I am on AT&T. The only tweaks I have made is to unlock the bootloader and disabled tethering guard. The problem existed on 1.25.617.4 and persists on 1.30.617.2. I thought the problem was a provisioning issue with AT&T. After multiple calls with them and a couple with HTC, I found this thread. Of course I should have stopped here first. I actually need call forwarding and calling AT&T to have them manually provision it every time I need it just won't cut it. Has anyone been able to figure this out?

How did you root? Are you sure you're sim unlocked and carrier unlocked? APN should have nothing to do with making calls; APNs are for data connections.

hi, gene poole.. i used the HTC Inspire/DHD Hack Kit found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
if APNs is for data, then why the hell did the other forum members on this thread give me idiotic advice on settings APNs knowing i cant make calls?
anyway gene ppoole, i cant make calls. sometimes the tmobile logo appears on the top left corner.. then it disappears. and i made a call that lasted only 15 secs. then i wasnt able to make another call. this is strange. what must i do?
Could we get some background on all this? Where did you get the phone (it's an AT&T phone and you're T-Mobile--why)? Was it damaged, or damaged and repaired? Was it used? Was it obtained from a friend? Craigslist?
I ask because it sounds like there's some problem with the phone's hardware to me. It may be something as simple as a loose connection (if the phone was disassembled for repaires, i.e.). It might be worse. Is it warrantied?

hi gene poole. i got the phone through craigslist. the guy who sold it to me said it was brand new. and it doesnt have any scratches on it whatsoever. everything looks perfect.
as far as warranty, i'm not sure. this is something i can check. but again, the phone looks brand new. i got it with the box and manuals and everything included.
i did flash it 3 times on 3 different roms. and it still gives me the same issue. do you think i should take it in for repairs? if so, where can i get the stock rom so it doesnt look like i broke the warranty?
or maybe i should re-root it and s-off again? maybe this will solve it?
How did you go about rooting it? It might not have gotten sim unlocked and/or carrier unlocked.

hi gene poole.. or, it might not have gotten the sim unlocked properly since the tmobile signal comes and goes sporadically. i made a call that lasted 10 secs before the call dropped. and when i try to call, the call drops immediately. most of the time i cant make calls. and the tmobiile logo appears then disappears from the upper left hand corner.
i rooted it using HTC Inspire/DHD Hack Kit V12.3. the link is below.

i think i should unlock it with another tool. can you provide me with a tool that will unlock and re-root the phone? i really need to solve this issue.. thank you gene poole..

This has proven to be the preferred method of rooting/unlocking. I agree with gene poole that it sounds like either the unlocking step of the root process wasn't done completely or at all. I suggest returning to stock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507) and trying again.
I'm still leaning toward a hardware issue. Do you have a friend with an AT&T SIM that could let you borrow it to see if it does wonky stuff with a native SIM?

AT&T H950 update and recovery problems

It's an H950 from the $250 ebay deal. I am on ATT service and the phone worked fine at H95010d
I contacted ATT customer service and had them pushed OTA software update to me. The first agent pushed H95011x to me, and things went wrong since then.
The phone cannot read the sim card (but no missing sim notice), baseband shown as unknown, if I press the "status" under the "about phone" page, the screen will flash black then go back to the about phone page.
Then I tried a factory reset. The phone started normal as if everything was fine, it just works on the first boot after the reset. But once I restart the phone, it went back to the same situation as above. I tried many times and the whole process is highly repeatable.
After that, I contacted ATT again, had the H95011z pushed to me, and it did not change the problem. Replacing sim card does not help, either.
Then I tried to get to those recovery methods on the forum, including installing the LGE mobile device drivers. But then under download mode, the phone (LGE Android MTP device) is shown as "this device cannot start (code 10)". Thus I was not able to perform fix with the tools.
I am kinds of stuck in the middle. Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am having exactly the same problem. I also replaced the SIM card, but instead of trying the 11z version I tried the rooted 11x version without any change.
As you wrote, a factory reset will restore the ability to make calls until the first reboot. For data, there is no APN listed. Manually inputing the APN info will cause data to work perfectly, but all APN data is lost/missing again on reboot.

I've sent the phone back for an exchange, and the new one is coming tomorrow. Just noticed your reply.
So there is no fix for this? Or is there a problem with the ATT OTA update we should be aware of?

This may not be a widespread issue, so there might've been an issue particularly with your Flex (maybe corrupt file?). I've used 11x/z without encountering this.

Feels nervous when finding others had the same issue.
Just want to make sure if there's anything i should know of before dealing with the new unit coming tomorrow.
quick report:
Received the exchange. Seems new as the last one but does not contain the ATT sim as the last one did.
Tried update with date changing, for like 20 times no luck. Chatted ATT service to push the two updates (11x and 11z) in, one after another. Gone through the process without problem, and seems working fine now.
So, it may be device dependent or case specific. Thank you for your input.
I also had to send mine back. It's sitting on my front step now. The strange thing is that the email telling me the phone was being sent back only listed a speaker problem, which I did not have and never mentioned. We'll see.

Are you an AT&T customer? I can not get the update to come OTA, whether with an ATT valid SIM or a different SIM. I also tried calling and because I have a business ATT line, I got business support and the lady was clueless about pushing the update to my phone from her end.

What time of day are you calling? I found calling during east coast business hours got me the right people. Ask the agent if they can do a google search from their computer, when/if they say yes ask them to search for H95011x or H95011z. The first or second result should be the AT&T page that explains the update, once my rep had that info things went MUCH better. (I just noticed for me the first result is my post on this forum LOL)
I got my Flex 2 back and LG did nothing to fix it. The repair said "fixed speaker". I never said anything about a speaker. After a couple frustrated calls I had to send it a second time. The second time, it was returned "no problem found". The phone is unusable as it can only be used after a reset and before a reboot or power off. More fun with LG later today. Ultimately, though, the reps don't give a crap; I couldn't even get the last rep to increase shipping speed, even though they failed to repair it the first time.

Unlocked T-Mobile Data and Reception Dropping in and Out

I picked up an unlocked T-mobile G5 and I'm using it for AT&T... The rep at the store applied the APN setting for ATT but I noticed after I got a new SIM installed and went home the reception and data connection started dropping in and out.
Basically, when the phone is sleeping and then I wake it starts searching for network then gets reception then get a signal for a couple mins then drops again and searches. Since it's a T-Mobile phone on an ATT network is there certain settings that I need to turn off like VoIP, WIFI calling etc? Any ideas?
Wipe out all existing APNs and start from scratch? Use the NXTGENPHONE APN. I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile H830 LG G5 on AT&T and I have no problems. My sister's Nexus 6 uses the same APN no problems either.

So I followed your steps.. I wiped all existing APNs and entered the APN setting in the link you provided and used the NXTGENPHONE APN but I couldn't get data but just had reception to make calls. So I changed the name to AT&T and the APN name to phone and I get data and reception but it still drops in and out.
I went to ATT to see what they could suggest but the only thing they offered was maybe a faulty SIM card and switched it out but it's still doing the same thing... Has anyone experienced this? Should I do a factory reset maybe? If I do that, I won't lose SIM unlock right?

I was going to suggest a factory reset as a last resort. You won't lose the sim unlock; it's permanent unlock.
Troubleshooting is the name of the game and you'll have to keep having to try potential solutions until it's fixed.
Hopefully it's not a hardware issue with the radio or you'll have to swap it out and reunlock it all over again.
are you on 10A or 10D?
10D seems to improve the radio... but if you wan root/twrp make sure you do all that on 10A first before upgrading to 10D.
also, have you tested the phone in different areas? or just at your house and immediate area? perhaps it's just an issue in specific locations? what if you drive across town or something?

Performed a factory reset and issue is still there but slightly improved but I need to test it more... Basically, when I wake the phone it searches for network (not all the time but here and there) then locks a signal..

Is your Network mode set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto? If it's not area specific it might be hardware related.
How did you get the 10D update on AT&T btw?

Last thing to try is Mobile networks>Network operators>Search networks. Maybe manually choosing one might help? Enable Data Roaming?
Could be a hardware issue if not software.

Yeah, I tried that too.. Got back from Tmobile and they said that another person experienced the same issue couple weeks ago and they said that some G5s that are unlocked and used on different networks are still trying to jumping back on the tmobiles phone network hence my phone searching signals off and on...
Just wanted to give another confirmation that the LG-H830 works perfectly on AT&T (H83010D [BL,modem, system], rooted, unlocked). I gave up on Verizon and my fiancé now uses it on AT&T. She loves it!
Geez.. I got scammed. The person looks like they file a insurance claim on the phone so my ESN is blacklisted! Great! Lesson learned the hard way. Any suggestions what I can do? I saw that people are buying bad ESN phone on ebay as long as I post that it's a bad ESN.
OP, I had the exact same problem on T-Mobile after doing a temporary unlock. I took it to a T-mobile store and they tried swapping the SIM but that didn't help so they did a warranty replacement. Two days later I had a new phone and everything works again. I didn't (and won't) try to SIM unlock it again.

I did some research online on blacklist repairs but do you or can anyone give me some recommendations on it? Sucks cause even if I get it repaired I wondering if I still will have issues with the reception..
Anyone tried this site? http://www.imeifix.com/
I just tried the sim unlock as well. I'm a tmobile customer so I really didn't have a reason to do it. Just wanted to see if it would unlock.
Well it said it could not be unlocked and I, out of dumb curiosity tried the temporary unlock. It worked and said it is unlocked until August. I think roughly 30 days after I did it.
Well, later that day or the next my phone started doing the same exact thing. Signal dropping and searching. Furthermore though, I woke up to a warm phone today. Same as it gets when doing lots of app updates. I unplugged it from the charger and watched the battery drop 4% in only 15 minutes of standby (screen off, not using the phone).
I just flashed it back to stock and relocked the boot loader and will see if it fixed it. Was running rooted 10d when this happened.
I'm starting to think that sim unlock app is evil or something. I haven't put my sim card back in as of yet but will update if it starts acting up when I do.
Possible explanation?:
I noticed a T-Mobile diagnostic app try to gain root access during the weirdness which I had never seen before. Maybe the sim unlock gains a sudo root to do the unlock but on a rooted phone with a non stock root manager causes the unlock app to endlessly loop trying to gain access and thus cause a warm phone and signal dropouts? Just a hunch but would be interested to see what others think.
*** Ok so quick update, I put my tmobile sim back in and the signal is dropping in and out again. The phone worked fine before I tried the unlock. This is so uncool.

I think I may have isolated the cause. I disabled the device unlock app in app settings and rebooted. Since then I haven't noticed the signal drop out.
EDIT: Yeah, that's a big nope. I'm still experiencing the problem after a total wipe and reflashing using LGUP refurbish mode. It's still dropping in and out, sometimes three times per minute. +1 to never use device unlock app.
I'm on stock unrooted 10d btw.
Oh, and the same SIM card works just fine in my older phones.

For what its worth, Att doesn't use the exact same bands as t Mobile....you might want to research some threads on the Att LG G5.

OTA 9.0 Killed my radio modem?

Hello
I'm running a completely stock Pixel that was originally purchased from verizon, which was then carrier unlocked then moved to AT&T. It still has a locked bootloader.
The other day I recieved the 9.0 OTA. Everything works on my phone except the radio modem. There is absolutely no cellular service now. Trying to make a call reports "radio off".
- I've rebooted
- Cycled both data and airplane modes on and off with long breaks in between
- Reset network settings
- Spent hours online with google tech support.
- Swapped sim cards with another phone on my account. The sim is good. The problem is with the 9.0 update
Since I haven't seen any other reports of the cellular modem dieing from the update, I'm wondering if it's because I have a verizon version which was carrier unlocked? Perhaps the update re-carrier-locked my phone? I don't have a verizon sim to test the theory out..
Anybody have any other ideas how I can get my phone up and running again?
Thanks!
Someone told someone else that they need to leave the SIM in place during the upgrade. I have no idea if that's true, and that other person hasn't responded.
Did you leave yours in?

Yes, mine was in
I did finally get it to work thankfully!
I was just preparing to downgrade back to 8.1 via the April OTA. I just finished downloading the update, and installing ADB. When I enabled USB debugging on the phone and plugged it into my laptop, the cell modem sprang to life. Not a single ADB command issued or anything else. Very strange
Too bad that in my frustration I went and ordered a Note 9. Should be a fun device anyways
Glad you got it working! I know that had to be incredibly frustrating!

Question Calls drop after 29m50s

Running xiaomi.eu 13.0.8 stable. All my outgoing calls end at 29m50s.
I have tried calling different numbers so not a problem with the called number. I have put my Vodafone UK SIM in my S22 Ultra and that's fine, but any call I'm on just terminates at 29m50s.
Has anyone else got this problem? Hopefully we'll see an update soon which may fix it.
this could just be your carrier having a call duration restriction, have you tried your sim card in another device to rule out carrier issue?

Yes. It's just the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. With my Vodafone SIM and EE SIM, they both disconnect calls, and in an iPhone, S22, Pixel, etc. they don't
Upgraded to 13.0.9 and still got the issue
Can anyone else try a call and see if they have the same problem?
Has anyone managed to make a call longer than 29m50s?
Just performed a factory reset and same issue.

Thanks. Good to know it's not every device. I assume you're running xiaomi.eu 13.0.10?
I know it's not my SIM or my network, so it must be the phone, I just don't know what.

yea 13.0.10 eu.
no idea. the only thing i noticed is a drop of quality due the spot where i am, constantly changes between 3g, 4g, 5g depending on where i am. but making it 4g only fixes.
So I formatted/wiped and went back to 13.0.8
Managed a 31 minute call
Installed 13.0.10, didn't sign in to anything, update any apps, etc.
Call disconnected at 29m50.
Time to give up with this phone I guess.
Hi,
I'm experiencing the same issue and it's been behaving this way since day 1. I've tried two different SIM cards. I've even gone as far as factory wiping the phone and even disabling VOLTE and using 3G for calls but it hasn't helped. I'm running on the stock CN ROM.
I want to return the phone, but I doubt I'll get it refunded in full since I've been using it for so long and I'm unsure what Giztop would do and how I'd be able to prove to them it's faulty. v13.0.11 was just released recently and it's not helped either.
I've decided I'm going to wait for the Vivo X90 Pro+ or Samsung S23U and be done with this phone since this issue is a dealbreaker as I tend to make a lot of calls since I also use this as both my personal and work phone. I'm kind of disappointed and am going to miss the camera a lot.
