Seeking someone in Portland Oregon to upgrade KangVIP for me - Huawei MediaPad X2

I bought my Mediapad X2 [GEM-703L] a couple of years ago from Swappa not realizing that it was rooted. It arrived with KangVIP b211 installed. I would like to upgrade to the current version of KangVIP. I'm not very sophisticated about tech matters and haven't even been able to install TWRP, despite following instructions in various forums. So I'm hoping to find someone in the Portland metro area who might be willing, for a modest fee, to upgrade my device to the most recent version of the KangVIP rom.

I'm not in Portland, I'm in NY but if you want to send it to me I'll upgrade it for you for free, you would just have to pay for shipping and put a return shipping label in the box.

@Flaneurist, I as a long time and active XDA member can vouch for @ajsmsg78 as trustworthy and the resident expert for these devices here.
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!

much appreciated
Thanks very much for your kind offer, ajsmsg78. And thanks to E--Man for the endorsement. I'll send a private message with details.
With gratitude,

Is there an Official T-Mobile UK update for the MDA Compact?

Just as it says in the topic, is there any OFFICIAL update to the T-Mobile UK version of the MDA Compact (Magician)? Still running 1.01 here
I'd rather use an official update for my phone, rather than a rip. Especially as I don't actually own a card reader so dumping another ROM to my device isn't actually doable for me ATM anyway
If not, anyone know why not, or if there are plans for the future? There's an official DE one, so you'd think they remember they sell the damn phone in more countries than Germany!
Cheers
FFM
Yes, i'd like to see this information also. I know the instructions to apply roms are available, however i would like to know that T-Mo UK actually support and roll these things out (and therefore have backup support available)
There was news that T-Mobile were releasing a patch at the end of last month. As they are now shipping Compacts with the newer ROMS. I haven't heard if it's out as yet. I just keep checking the website as it should be out any time now.
8Ball
Well.. I've just phoned em up and asked em, but the girl I spoke too could find no information in her email about any upcoming updates to the ROM...
But then, how often do CS reps get told what's going to happen!
I shall continue to hope, but really, there is NO need to keep us hanging like this, not if they want us to bloody stay!
I called T-Mo also. They gave me a number of a 'manufacturer' which was,
0871 22 30 217
or
0871 22 30 218
Thats the HTC Europe repairs number.
Who did not answer the phone on either number.
I'm running out of ideas now
E-mailed T- mobile customer services about the release date for the patch and got this reply:
Thanks for your email.
Unfortunately we have no launch date for this as of yet.
Thanks and Regards
Which means that there appears to be an upgrade in the pipeline, but they're just very slow about getting it organised!
Thanks
8Ball
What i think we should do is this
Someone draft up a Standard letter of Complaint about this, IE all the other makers can handle it, WHY CANNOT YOU
then we all send it in to T-mobile, and see if that helps....
they must have the update cause the new ones are been shipped with it
P.S if anyone has the new version, can they please dump it somewhere on the FTP site please
Marc
well fellow uk'ers... it's OFFICIAL...
T-Mobile Tech Department ARE USELESS.
There has been much speculation of a forthcoming upgrade for the MDA Compact, not only because of the countless issues, but to also provide the Blackberry service, something I was personally looking forward to...
http://www.blackberry.com/news/press/2004/pr-21_12_2004-01.shtml
http://www.t-mobile.net/CDA/t-mobil...yearid-2516-monthid-3535,en.html?w=1024&h=603
As you will see in the above links, it was mentioned at the end of last year, that this would be AVAILABLE for the MDA Compact. Try a google search...
SO, phoned up the so-called "Tech Dept" at T-Mobile UK, and you guessed it, didn't have a clue. Furthermore, they said "there wasn't enough RAM / storage for this facility" :?
If anyone has more success than me, then please let us know..

Does GEM-701L exist?

Does this model actually exist, and can it be purchased anywhere? Or does it just exist in marketing materials?
Model tested in june 2015:
http://www.ixbt.com/mobile/huawei-mediapad-x2.shtml
Not yet in sale anywere, as far as I know
Hi Ralph, I too have been looking high and low for this model for use in the UK.
I found this, but it's no good... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-MediaPad-LTE-Tablet-gold/dp/B00TX5RSPI
I did find (supposedly) a website in UAE that was selling the GEM-701L, but I cannot find it
now.
Found this!: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2/general/gem-701lt-available-huawei-russia-t3207290
Wonder how long until it comes to Europe?
IME, Samsung have launched models simultaneously in Russia and Europe.
Fingers crossed it won't be too long!
Hope this is useful for other frustrated folk who cannot find the GEM-701L!
I purchased my GEM-701L 2 week ago in Hungary, so yes, this is an existing model .

I bought it from a hungarian web store (I live in Hungary), 130000 HUF=420 EUR=477 USD with 1 year factory warranty.
I can't insert yet link, I have not enough posts. www [dot] xoomstore [dot] hu/huawei_mediapad_x2_70_tablet_lte_32_gb_android_50_gold_135601
A french user just bought a 701L from "explosivesport" seller on cdiscount.com. Device was supposed to be 3 Gb ram. But turned out to be 2. So the seller get the item offline. The device was supposed to come from germany
I've also been looking for the international version of the P8Max. The story is the same. Huawei announce the phone, then don't sell it. Very poor. I'm sorry to see learn that Huawei are vapourware merchants..

It seems like the cycle. With the Mate 8 soon and the P9 Max in the offing, looking back by Huawei seems a lower priority. I'm hoping a future offering does offer all GSM US compatibility, like the negligible P8 lite.

H960A TOT & Rooting

Hi Folks
I will be purchasing the H960A TOT very soon with Root as Mockhi have confirmed they can root the FW and I can flash with LGUP. It maybe a week until I can get it but once I have purchased it, If people want it then I will share.
If anybody wants it please let me know. As we know the H961N has been rooted via this method.
Will it work with the upcoming Marshmallow update?
The TOT they provide will be lollipop...
I understand that the root will be done on 5.1.1
Will we be able to upgrade to 6.0?
Will we be able to keep the root on 6.0?
If answer is No to both questions, will we be able to revert root and upgrade to 6.0 without root?
Sure I want root, want it a lot... I also want to be able to get 6.0 when available
That is wonderful news, thanks!
It's indeed kinda disappointing that V10 still not getting 6.0 before March (it was rumoured that it could get it as early as december) and root coming just so late in a "pro" phone but even if it means stucking with 5.1.1 for a while, root is great.
Total cost they say is 25 GBP = 280 HK$... Im willing to pay that, however if anybody wants to donate to help cover the partial cost, i really dont mind
Oh, BTW that is 960A? Which is the 32GB variant?
I thought it's the regular international version of 960.
It is, the 960A is the international variant.
Is it? 64 GB one?
Mine is H960TR (TR being the country variant) for instance. Are you sure that 960A applies as the same? (minus country specific stuff, of course)
960A is a different model im afraid. Its the international variant that is being sold. It is the 32Gb edition.
I am also interested, and i can send you 5 GBP via paypal.
Can it be used for H960AY?
If so 5$usd from me
Pretty sure that is the guy who ripped off @i42o I would be very careful.

Yes it was the same company but they supplied the H961N... And besides is £25, and its a risk im willing to take
Paypal Link created under "Donate To Me" - Ill be purchasing this by next week...
I suspect its a H960A only, if it wont work with your device, LGUP will tell you when you go to flash it (I tested it before)

I'm sorry to say but those who are taking the risk of donating to a person without the proof of the existence, I'd beware of such situations, no matter who it may be. At least at H961N, BlueEffect proved it before asking for donations.

I agree, I asked Them on FB to double check on this. They have confirmed they can do this and even then its not much. If someone wishes to donate then they can, but they dont have to. But i will be purchasing this week and ill test it. Should it not work then any donations will be refunded and ill take the hit.
Ive been on XDA long enough to know that this is for the benefit of the community and not for my own personal gains.
Ive been trying to get the TOT of them but they seem to just be ignoring my messages :/
Any ideas? I have also asked BlueEffect how he got it.

Ive refunded your donation until I get it
2 possibilities
1) They do not have the file.
2) They do not want to send the file to you so that you cannot share the file with other people. They may only flash the TOT for people who take phones to the shop.

Bootloader unlock - Huawei update - ACT NOW if you want to unlock!

As many of you will know Huawei pulled the unlock bootloader site. People have since had mixed results emailing them directly for the code. I emailed them for the unlock code yesterday (11th June 2018) and recived the reply copied below.
It certainly clears some things up. Interestingly the bootloader site is back up, albeit for a limited time! You lave 60 days from 24th May before they stop the service! https://emui.huawei.com/en/unlock_detail
When you go to unlock via the link they give you this warning: Screenshot https://photos.app.goo.gl/2kcJ2J9gXWpwE8XN9
Personally I think it is a bad move on Huawei's part . If you've not unlocked bootloader and intend to do so I'd jump it it ASAP!
Thank you for contacting Huawei Customer Care.
In response, we would like to inform you that starting May 25th and until July 25th (for 2 months) – the EMUI website will get back the bootloader code search function, for products released before May 25th.
Starting July 25th 2018, the Huawei official policy (as per HQ decision) is to not offer bootloader codes to customers anymore in order to avoid issues that may appear due to ROM flashing, and thus maintain the user’s experience.
The website can be reached here to obtain the bootloader code : https://emui.huawei.com/
We hope this information should prove useful. Should any questions arise, feel free to contact us again.
We remain at your disposal for any other inquiries that you may have.
Best regards,
Ben

Oh I'll crawl back under the rock from which I came haha
Does *applying* for the code alone void the warranty? OR can I apply and receive a code, but only void the warrently the moment I unlock it?
Aye there's a few threads about this, I've got one myself.
And I agree with everything in your OP mate.
They'll probably in the future start allowing unlocks.
No one wants a locked down android phone and when it hits their pocket they'll know that.
Unfortunately for p20 pro owners the damage is done and the lack of ROMs is testament to that.
Perhaps if they'd just released one damn variant without all the madness they've forced upon us there would be less problems flashing ROMs I mean look at Oneplus, they actually had twrp as a part of their official root method on their site for the longest time haha and here's Huawei putting their finger up to the people who've done more for Android than anyone.
Apparently we're only 1% of their customer base?
I promise you they'll lose more than 1% sales when the next flagship is released as there will be zero ROMs on here when it does and none of the enthusiastic users here to create a buzz about it.
Beginning of the end and the birth of another Apple.
They'll learn, just like HTC did, if a little late.
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here but I have been swimming through your posts since ever I think
I have a Chinese P20 Pro (CLT-AL01) and I have been trying to obtain the code from the EMUI webpage but no success. I entered all the info that demands but it doesn't give back the code. It shows a message like if you have any problem with the unlocking process just contact us. Maybe it's because the phone is Chinese? Happened to someone?
I contacted them via huawei email today, I will wait a few days and I'll see.
Btw I am trying to rebrand it to the EU version.

So this happened:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear xxxx,
Thank you for contacting Huawei Support.
We are unable to send boot loader code via email and can only be obtained through our website.
If you would want to unlock your phone, you should meet the following conditions:
1. Please register your Huawei ID in our official website xxxxxxxx on your phone.
2. Log in and logout your Huawei ID continuously for 14 days.
3. Each Huawei ID should not apply for the unlock code more than fifth time within 6 months.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the conditions are a bit demanding idk, I am thinking about returning the phone asap. What do you guys think?
That's rubbish, this is reply I got regarding unlock code
Thank you for contacting Huawei Support UK.
In response to your question, we inform that requesting the bootloader will not void the warranty, If you use it, then yes the phone will not have warranty anymore.
Should you require the code, please provide us with the following details:
Device model:
Serial number:
IMEI:
Product ID - dialing *#*#1357946#*#*. If not available, the invoice should be attached.
Reason for the unlock code:
We are looking forward for your reply and let us know if you have any other questions.

They are making excuses for not giving me the unlock. The worst thing is that I registered the huawei account on the phone yesterday, so in 14 days it will be July 24th and that day they will stop giving the code
Huh?
Can't you just log into the EMUI-Site from the first post and request your code there? It worked for my device a few weeks ago. It was quick and easy.
@walkerx Huawei Support Germany insists that even requesting the code voids the warranty. Of course this is bull and not even legal, but whatever floats their boat I guess.

I got that email response from their UK Helpdesk and told them the reasons for it was due to the lack of updates for the devices, incompatibility with certain apps and that they allow UK network operators to take over your devices even when purchased as sim-free, unlocked out of contract and unless they change their attitude towards the UK users and not reverse the unlocking bootloader decision then I will no longer purchase another Huawei device.
I may not unlock until after I swap phones to another model, but I always want that option and do not agree with it being locked down.
I'm also thinking of logging a UK petition online to prevent network operators in the UK from taking control off our devices and re-branding them and deciding whether or not and when we should get updates as these should be left to google or the manufacturers not the network provider. Also like with Apple devices wifi calling features should be standard and work for all networks not just limited and they should not require a specific firmware supplied by the operator for these to work - should be done by network setting only
I'm totally with you on this point. Fortunately, in Germany, most (not all!) providers don't force any unnecessary crap on an unlocked device and don't mess with the firmware. Some do, however.
I would also prefer to be able to unlock an reflash whenever I want to, or get rid of the forced on G-Apps, or fully use tasker to control the device (which you need to be rooted for some certain things).

This url still works fine for me. You used the same one?

General THERE IS NO GMS ON THE P50 PRO. DEAL WITH IT.

I'm fed up of seeing threads on here and in places like Reddit asking how to add GMS to this phone. If you want GMS then why have you purchased a phone without it?
Either take the time to learn how to live without GMS or don't go buying phones without it. It really is that simple.
Yup. It is the first phone that can not install GMS. It is possible with P40 PRO but not with international P50 PRO, China is OK - it works (Harmony 2, not EMUI).
So we are dealing with it. No doubt about that.
Right now the international P50 PRO is crap. This is how we deal with it.

You mean moaning is how you are dealing with it.
So why buy a phone that doesn't come with GMS if all you are going to do is complain about it not having GMS? Do you go out and deliberately buy a red car just so you can moan about the fact it's not blue?
I love the way P30 PRO works, I skiped P40 PRO (worked with googlefier), P50 PRO China works also. International is crap. At the time of my purchase I did not have information of the "crap" diference. There is no color logic here.
The phone works properly, according to the manufacturer.
It is only your fault that you did not find out properly before the purchase; lack of proper information does not mean that a product sucks ...
If you buy something only on the basis of assumptions, you will end up with such results.

Phone does not suck. It is one of the best phones on the market. I know that for sure. That is why I bought it.
But that does not change the that the phone is CRAP without GMS. I bought Chinese version with Harmony. I got this EMUI crap. My fault is just buying this crap. Info about EMUI and not Harmony came with the phone. I would still use my P50 PRO if I could "uncrap" it.
So you bought a Chinese version, but you received an international one ??
That means you have been cheated by the seller ...
I preordered it when there was only one version. I did not specifically said:"Don't sell me the crap EMUI version.", because it did not exist at my order time. This is now the only version you get around here.

Whether you purchased the Chinese or international version is irrelevant. You would of bought a phone that did not come with GMS. Even if you got the Chinese version you'd eventually start complaining once the exploits got patches.
I am not complaining. I just explained my point that the phone is crap without GMS. No need to change my mind. You should respect my point of view. I am not trying to change anybodies mind. This is simply what I think of this phone. I explained why I bought it. You may use it as you like. Enjoy. It looks like your expectations are fully filed. Mine are not. So for me it is a crap.
Another thing is that most of other phones can be unlocked and rooted. This one? CRAP! You can't.
I bought the phone and I can do with it what I like. Right now it is in the original box waiting to be "uncraped". If you want to offer serius buck let me know. This crap is for sale.

As I only paid £550 for mine be brand new I'll pass.
I paid 880€ with discount and 2 years of bond to operator. Mine was one of the first in the city. Your price was fair. I completely understand your pass.
