drm info - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

So I've been asking this question on almost all the new phones' forums recently because it's never mentioned in any of the spec websites or the manufacturers website. None of the YouTube tech channels check it either except for one which he also forgets to do for some of the phones.
The question is.... Is this phone Widevine L1 certified?
Anybody who already bought the phone can check through downloading an app via playstore. App name is 'drm info'.
Screenshot would be appreciated for anybody who are looking for this particular feature in the next phone they're gonna buy. Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah I know people can answer after they buy the phone, I'll just leave this here since it's something people should know before buying a phone. Whoever can get a screenshot of drm info will be appreciated.

Bump. Also interested in this. Wouldn't get my hopes up though, so far no Xiaomi phone has widevine L1.

I don't have the phone yet, but according to Frankie Tech's 48-hr review on YouTube, it's L3 (and he showed the results from DRM info in his video @ around 8 minutes in). He's running the Chinese software, of course... and said that the Mi 8 Global Version is L1, so maybe there's hope for the Mix 3. Who knows? Time will tell...

That's false. That YouTube guy lives in HK , buys all his phones from China. He doesn't know about the global variants that's why he says "probably".
I went to the xiaomi store in Hong Kong yesterday and checked at least 3 mi 8/ 2 mi 8 pro/ also pocofone. None of them had L1.

Can you clarify which part is false? Are you saying that it's unlikely any version of the Xiaomi phones (esp Mix 3) will have L1?

No xiaomi phone will have L1.

I'm also saying, anything without proof should not be considered as a fact. This YouTube guy has no proof that the global version of Mi 8 has L1, which is exactly what he says and compares the Mi Mix 3 with.

Thanks... and that's a good reminder as well. That's part of the reason I shared the the approximate time he talked about (and showed) that the Mix 3 has L3. I'm not really familiar with the guy, but it seems like he puts a lot of effort into his videos - I wonder where he heard that about the Mi 8. It seems a silly thing to lie about.
Anyway, thanks again...

You're right. I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Mi 8 Global variant and it has Widevine L3.

Hi, just wanted to update this thread. I have a Mix 3 and Widevine is L3. Flashed the EU MIUI 10 ROM when it became available for Mi Mix 3. Still L3.
Shame, especially with such a beautiful screen. Hope this helps!

The information comes from the global version I imported from HK. Unfortunately the smartphone comes with videwine level 3 and not L1.
(For those who are interested I would recommend to order a cover for the phone as the included one is low quality quality)

Its L3, Global Version with Global MIUI.

Marshmallow update...Xiaomi is playing with us!

I bought a Mi4c a few months ago convinced it was a great phone that could replace my Nexus 5 and yes it is a good phone with good specs but I bought it also when Xiaomi announced it would update to Marshmallow. My Nexus 5 was already running under MM so, I thought it would be a matter of a couple of weeks (Xiaomi announced update in Decembre) Today months have passed, many manufacturers like Motorola, Sony and even Samsung have updated some of their models even Moto E...but still nothing for Mi4c. Xiaomi makes good phones and I thought it was better than others cheap Chineses makers. It wants to be compared to Apple but it lacks support and compromise to existing customers. I probably had placed my expectations too high. Am I the only one? Next time I will buy a Nexus again.
Xiaomi uses Miui rom. There is no mutch different between MM based miui and Lollipop based miui.
Miui have most features of MM has already.

thats right! because of that i have no stress to get MM.
sMIUI runs great for me and have many many features!
IMO, they have too many devices to support. Just look at this table:

Many vendors only support their devices for 1 year, some 2, but here you can see Mi2S which is almost 3 years old and is still a supported device. I don't think Xiaomi has big enough development team to maintain all of those devices to match current base Android version. Moreover, they're advertising MIUI, which should have the similar experience between supported devices regardless the base Android version. 3 devices are already out with MM (still beta?), just wait for Mi4c turn. What features do you need from MM anyway?
"What features do you need from MM anyway?" My thoughts exactly.
Looking at the new features of MM, the ones that are interesting are the memory manager, per-app permissions and battery management. These are all things MIUI has built in already. Which probably also makes it that much harder to integrate into a new MIUI version.
Most of the other changes are cosmetic and most likely would not be reflected in MIUI anyway, when the MM update does come out.
or you can install TS CM13 - built by TS team or TS broken OS. They are 6.0 MM and pretty stable now. Great team with great supports and speed.
Sent from my Mi-4c using Tapatalk
The only real feature M offers over L is SD card as internal storage. Since Mi4c has no external storage you aren't missing anything. MIUI already does a Doze feature killing everything in the background.
Doze, per app permission and memory management are thé most wanted feature un MM.
MIUI is good and I don't criticize his developping team very active. I am only mad at Xiaomi marketing team making announcements and not complying.

Like a few of us mentioned so far, those features have been built into MIUI for a long time already. So rejoice, you have your most wanted features
On a serious note, it's probably reasonable to assume the MM rollout will follow the release of the new flagship, the Mi 5. Which I think is like a day or two away. You can bet that'll be released with the latest MIUI iteration of android.

Please provide at least 1 quote from Xiaomi officials that said Mi4c will get MM soon.
And no.. gizchina "xiaomi mm devices updates schedule" is not official.
i use Broken that is 6.0 and it works perfectly...
if u want 6.0 that bad get it...
Smartlock is there but it is not working at all... That would be nice to have it, dont know if under Android 6 or 7, or actual 5.1...

i believe it's a matter of time before the mi4c reveives marshmallow... but judging from xiaomi history mm won't come anytime soon... i'd estimate (personally) early autumn the soonest......
Am I the only one that think Xiaomi won't update Mi4c to MM?

I guess so. Since Mi 3/4/5/Note get it, there's no reason to skip Mi 4C/4S/Note Pro/any other still supported devices. However, they seem to be in a discussion now, for supporting newer Android base with locked bootloader or stay with older one with unlocked bootloader.
Why shouldn't it get MM? The Mi4S just got released and should therefore get it, which is very similar to the Mi4C.
Maybe they will update Mi4c straight forward to "N" just like Mi4 which jumped lollipop to MM.

Oneplus 6 vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s vs Xiaomi Mi 8

Hi, I need an help to choose my next phone.
My current phone is a xiaomi mi5s, very good phone but the software is a little buggy, with the new miui often only one of the 2 big cores are working and the phone lags.
The oneplus have good reputation for the software but I never tried one.
Here in uk at the moment the oneplus is the most expensive of the three:
Oneplus 6 469£
Mi mix 2s 387£
Mi 8 422£
All of them are 6bg ram and 64 rom.
Both the xiaomi are cheaper but oneplus maybe has better software.
I think the mi8 has better hardware but I don't like the big notch that hide the notifications, the mi mix 2s is the cheaper but i don't like the front camera quality and the oneplus is a little too expensive on the official website

I chose Oneplus 6 because of English/Western OS support. I tried to get Mix 2S for the longest time, but people who actually got it complained about numerous bugs and incompatibilities with Google. I don't know anything about Mi 8.
Tell me where do you find the mi 8 for that price? The oneplus is cheaper than the xiaomi mi 8, despite the launch price. But what if they are not selling at the launch price...
sorry for my English
Why not Vivo Nex ??
This phone has features that oneplus6 should have !!
Shame on Oneplus !!

Yes that's what I was thinking, the miui is a good rom but some models doesn't receive the support that they deserve, my mi5s is left with a bugged rom and they release updates for the older model mi5.

Today's price is even less, 405£.
But you need to add about 17£ for the shipping if you are in UK.

oneplus6 is already expensive AF, it is almost $1000 Canadian pesos. Vivo nex shouldnot much more expensive, but still all of this phone ugly and do not have maximum performance as they should. At least the top model should have maximum available for manufactures.

Yes but they ship from China so you need to pay import duty and vat, I'm looking on something that ships from Europe.
I never bought from grossoshop, I discovered this Web site from some phone reviews on youtube and is it says that there are no import duty to pay so I suppose they ship from Europe.

Actually they are very close, on the selfie camera oneplus has eis stabilization but on mi 8 there is less noise at low light.
Rear camera picture same quality, video 4k 60fps oneplus is good, 30 fps is rubbish (no details), 30fps on mi 8 is good but no support for 60fps, I like the wider field of view in the videos on mi8. Audio OK on oneplus, rubbish on mi8.

I'll probably go from Nex S Global version to 1+ 7 Pro too. The nex S is a great phone, but I find it very disappointing that the Global Version is still on 8.1, I'm worried how this phone will receive future updates and this is not a problem on OnePlus's side, their developers are a lot closer to the community than Vivo's.

Yes oneplus 7 pro seems to be solid upgrade to Nex S.
But again will be missing 3.5 audio jack.
But the main differences is in software between Vivo and Oneplus.
Majority of western world users will prefer Oxygen than Fantouch that's the advantages for oneplus device.

I've heard rumours that ColorOS 6 doesn't allow you to install custom Launchers, could some confirm or drop me an interesting link about what's so wrong with ColorOS before purchasing one?
Also, as I never had Oppo before, should rooting and removing Chinese market apps be easy?
Thanks!

If it's like the Chinese Funtouch version then probably not but there are workarounds for launchers I understand. Don't know about rooting and removing Chinese bloat.
First suggestion would be to wait for the Global model and second is to check the Oppo forums on here and elsewhere.
So... is this video up-to-date then?

I'm asking this because I don't have too much that I ask from Android at all - Nova Launcher + quick-shortcut to turn on LED lamp (e.g. long press on some button) and honestly I would be happy enough

I long press the volume down button on my Nex. Probably the same for the Oppo. Again, you're asking in the wrong forum.
I like the oppe reno 10x much more than the Oneplus 7. But if there is no development possible on the reno it's worthless

There is an Android Q preview already for the Oppo Reno and soon Oppo Reno 10x Zoom.

But the main question is why would i upgrade my phone within just 9 months?

Question Question Regarding Bootloader Unlock/Relock For ASUS ROG Phone 5/5s?

Quick question regarding ASUS ROG Phone 5/5s? If you unlock the bootloader using the official unlock app, and then relock the bootloader again, can you use the app again to unlock?
I've read online that once you relock your bootloader you can kiss the root/bootloader unlock goodbye. I just want to confirm from ASUS ROG Phone 5/5s users whether or not this is the case.

If your device is a native WW version (i.e not CN or CN>WW converted), from my actual experience, you can lock/unlock it as many times as you want - I've done that at least a handful times or so on an original WW 5 device.
I can not speak for CN, converted and S models however - users here claim you're done for life once you re-lock one of those, so I'd be careful.

Can we say the same thing about the US version as well?

Also, what about the warning in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ootloader-root-your-device-read-this.4258227/ ?

Same. Most of these users must own/refer to devices that have been converted to WW and then re-locked. If you get an original Global model that's not a CN/Tencent knock-off, you should be OK and highly recommended anyway.
The blanket notion that ASUS only allow users to unlock 1 time as stated in a couple of posts in forums is not correct in the case of original Global devices from my experience. I even confirmed that with ASUS before they did a complete firmware rebuild on mine once. Re-locked/unlocked multiple times using the ASUS app, zero issues. - Again, I can't speak for Pro/Ultimate/S models and I've never had a CN/Tencent model in my hand, I had the normal original WW/Global model while I still had this device.
Either way, I don't know why you wanna unlock/re-lock it. Best to unlock it and leave it alone...

What about the US version? The global version (EU) is different from the US version, but I personally believe it would be the same story as with global version (EU), but I just want to confirm.

I too would expect there is no difference between the Global versions with respect to the bootloader lock but I don't want to guess something I haven't verified - Maybe someone here with an original Global-US version can confirm...
I searched a lot by the time I found it and it helped from experience, the right driver and the right usb cable and the Asus Rogphone 5 side usb only responds to the adb driver, this video is saved, I recommend watching it from 15:25 relock bootloader and me also succeeded flawlessly, follow me in detail to make it all happen !!!

Thank you for your reply. I am not looking for the Tencent version, and my question is not about how to relock, but rather if I can unlock again after relocking.
@Andrologic to add more proof to ur claim, I've talked to the US store's customer service agent about this specific issue, and it matches your claim. Here's the chat discussion screenshot (only the relevant part is screenshotted):

He said I should be able to use the app more than once. I have the case number and I will follow up with him again regarding this question, but I believe it still works. The warning in the other XDA form post is because people locked the bootloader on a not-supported ROM (e.g. global ROM on CN version), which confused the app. If they locked it on a CN ROM, I believe the app would still work.
I will follow up more regarding this issue. Thank you again @Andrologic with your confirmation on the global (EU version) "Unlock Device App" unlock after relock issue.
Here is another chat session screenshot:
Before we go posting this into every warning thread about locking and unlocking a bootloader as hard fact, let's remember a few things...
One is that this has only been confirmed in practice on one or two native WW devices, so it should still be done with caution.
Another is that the inability to unlock a second time has been confirmed on a handful of Tencent devices, so it can more or less be assumed it doesn't apply there.
The last is that you are getting confirmation from Asus chat support. If I had a nickel for every time one of those agents agreed with whatever I said and later found out it wasn't true, I could buy China.
You should still use caution and it may only be possible on native WW devices. Let's not go spreading the rumor that a "proper" conversion or sticking to the CN ROM allows multiple unlocks on Tencent, especially in threads where someone else has to deal with the consequences of it being speculation.

Success is disgusted by some people, and will not share any files for free in the future.

@johnny886 You are amazing! Can you pin your post above in the ASUS ROG Phone 5S forum so that it is a reference to the folks who are struggling to open their bootloaders?
Now, this post really confirms my decision of getting this phone. I was deciding between Pixel 6 Pro and ASUS ROG Phone 5S. Both phones can be rooted. Both phones have North American variant with the almost perfect network coverage, as well as having dual sim (I am looking for network bands 4, 7, 13, 66, and 71 for Freedom Mobile here in Canada). ASUS ROG Phone 5S has better value per money tbh. Better processor on benchmark. More storage on the base one. Lastly, it comes with a whopping 65W charger in the box (while Pixel 6 Pro u need to buy it separately and it is also only 30W), and the battery is just better. The only thing I will be missing here is the wireless charger, but tbh, it's such a gimmick feature to worry about.
Also, one thing I forgot, it is better to get a Qualcomm device rather than a new foreign COU like Tensor chip, because at least we know how to get into EDL mode and unbrick.

Google Pixel 6 These two phones are not worth buying. I tested the Pixel 6 Pro and the experience is very poor. You can choose a better one. Tensor Soc is modified by Google based on Samsung exynos, and the measured experience is not as good as Qualcomm Snapdragon 888plus.

Question Buy Xiaomi 12S Ultra for using in Spain ( GLOBAL ROM installed )

Hi,
I am looking at the possibility of buying a 12S Ultra from Taiwan. The phone would come with Global ROM already installed, and also with Google Services installed and the Play Store, Gmail, etc already loaded and installed.
That Global ROM, would it be the official Xiaomi one?
Or would the phone remain Chinese for all intents and purposes for warranties, repairs, etc.?
How does it work on European network bands?
Because currently I have a Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G that it takes awesome pictures with an excellent hardware ... but I have a lot of issues with Google Services that I installed it since I updated it to Harmony OS 3.0
Global ROM does not exist for 12s Ultra..
Maybe they will install a Xiaomi.eu ROM, by luck.
It seems to me that the price is different if it installs Google services for you, best time to do it yourself, just unlock the bootloader and install a Xiaomi EU rom.
What is your country?

I use it in Spain. I bought it with the .EU rom already unlocked. 4G coverage (at least in Madrid and depends on the operator) if you leave the cities, go down. but nothing drastically. yes, 5G networks, 100%

Ok, in my case my network carrier is Movistar.

The truth is that if. I use Pepephone and it works quite well for me. The camera is very very good and with the EU rom it would be practically like a global rom.

I came from a Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G and EMUI/Harmony is fantastic ... but the issue are Google Services bugs.

It has a qcom 8+, but it's not like the 12T pro. few frequencies are carried. I was using the official global rom on the 12Tpro and it is more agile when it comes to installing applications and the recent menu, but keep in mind that it is based on the modified Chinese rom. I have the mobile in high performance mode and dpm goes
Not really comparable but:
As said on my first post, buying the original phone is better than with an installed Eu rom.
why?
Cheaper.
And above all you will be sure to have a new phone (unopened box), some merchants sell you returns or exchanges.

If the missing bands are not a problem, the Chinese version is cheaper.
You will just have to wait 168 hours to finalize the unlocking of the bootloader.

NOSS8 @SathelpHello again.
I wanted to know if it is true that the original Chinese version brings the English language, because in origin they can also eliminate several Chinese apps that are not useful for Europe.
I think in some websites they add Google Play Services to this device.
I also wanted to know if that original Chinese ROM version receives security and software updates earlier and better than those of a Global ROM that is installed on this 12S Ultra.
My idea is not to flash or do anything strange to the 12S Ultra when I receive it, I just want to install my favorite apps and take good pictures with it in Spain.
