No gmail notifications

Hello,
I'm not receiving new mail notifications, it happened few times already. Every battery saving optimisation is disabled!
Phone's build number is MHA-L29C432B126, no updates available
Is there something I can do to start receiving notifications?

Check Settings - Apps - Gmail - Notifications. Check so it's turned on

It is enabled already, thank you anyway.
BTW notifications work when I'm testing it not long after screen was on, but it stops after a while. It's obviously some kind of battery usage optimisation - gmail is killed somehow so it doesn't receive push events. As I said before, I checked all power settings and they are all set on the safe side (no auto closing apps).

There is no gmail on that list, mostly apps I installed by myself (no factory apps), only few exceptions.
By default, only "allowed" apps are shown and I did selected "All apps" option - still no gmail...

BTW I googled a lot about this problem and found some instructions which says that notification problems could be solved by "locking" apps in recent apps list (square navbar button). I did it yesterday evening and I'm receiving notifications today. I'm not sure the issue is really fixed because notifications sometimes found their way before too. Also, seems like dirty solution, I guess the problem remains for other apps...

Yes...i get confused with mine - China version that all Google Apps are in that list.... If you lock apps in recent apps list maybe will solve your problem...
In Chinese version this is the only way for all apps Google and social media...
Huawei once again have mess everything up with notifications...
Let's see when they will fix them because there is a strong enemy behind them... S8 plus is coming.... So Huawei Harry up with this mess

Yea, just when I started thinking this smartphone is perfect...

whatsapp issue on Mate9

I have a Mate9 where the whatsapp was fully functional since installation, but suddenly last two days the apps (whatsapp) stopped notifying about new received messages until I open it. So now I am obliged to check my whatsapp every 30 minutes by opening and checking for pending messages.
any help?

its known issue with notifications in the chinese mate 9 hopefully Andorid O will fix it

1. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Battery
Make sure the option 'App auto-lanuch' enabled and the 'Close after screen locked' disabled.
2. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Notifications
Make sure all options enabled.

I checked and found the option 'App-Auto-Launch' option disabled which I have enabled. that could be the reason. I will test for few days and feedback. much thanks for the great support.

You are welcome.
As we are not sure why and when the option 'App-Auto-Launch' on your phone was disabled automatically, you can also try to give the app full access to all permissions.
Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Permissions - Set individual permissions, enable option 'Trust this app'.
Any result, please feedback here to all.

Hi James,
I have done all the settings required as per your recommendation, and I have observed the behavior of whatsapp for few days. I noticed sometimes it works and other time it doesn't. after doing those settings recommended the phone started alerting me about applications that are the top consumer of power; Whatsapp, Firefox are always in the top. Power is a big concern for Mate9 and everytime battery goes less than certain threshold (50%), the phone decides to make-asleep the power-consumers.
Cool, I believe no solution to such effect other than keep the phone on charger

It was said that it is the stock app, Phone Manager, which will occasionally stop WhatsApp improperly. And the suggested solution is to disable its some option as below.
Settings - Apps - Phone Manager - Write system settings, disable the option, 'Allow write system settings'.

I just wonder whether this whatsapp issue only exists on China version Mate 9.

the mate 9 is not the only phone from HUAWEi / HONOR which was affected to this problem! I had this on my Honor 7 too.
Reason for this behaviour seems to be the deep sleep function of their devices.

Phone manager is there real culprit. Rooted guys can uninstall it while others can follow this solution.

Another solution is to search for "ignore battery Optimisation" in settings and disable it for WhatsApp.

Its because of the battery saving features on emui cause the halt notifications. But no worries, it has a solution.
1. Go to settings>battery, tap on the settings icon on top right corner, make sure everthing off in there except keep mobile data on during sleep.
2. Go to settings>battery>lock screen cleanup, make sure your desire apps not turn on.
3. Go to settings>apps, tap on the setting icon on center, go to special access>ignore optimisations, change to all apps, choose your desire apps, and make it allowed.
Voila! All sets and your desire apps will be working normally without notification halted. Hope it helps.

Problem with notification for Gmail and some other apps

I am into one week of using my new OnePlus 6. I observed side yesterday that I don't receive notifications from Gmail and Outlook.
I tested that other apps like WhatsApp and Hangouts receive notification (sound and led) just alright.
I double checked that the led notification settings and notification settings for Gmail is enabled. Does anybody have the same problem?

I actually have this same issue, I can't give you any solution. I have to get into the app and refresh it manually

Same hear was waiting for important email all day and when I went into Gmail hours later it was actually there no notification , not sure on a fix to

Just random thinking as I get gmail notification, maybe check the app settings itself to see if notification is on, check to see if auto sync is on in settings-accounts-google, maybe also check settings-notification-app (there are some extra settings in the type of alert style and for sound state). Don't know if any of these will help but maybe take a look. Hope y'all get find the issue and fix it, good luck :good:

I have never in my life had Gmail notifications in real time on any phone...

This is an Oxygen OS bug. I had this on the OP5 , OP5t and now on the 6. Has nothing to do with doze settings or battery optimalization.
What could help, what solved it for me: open the recent apps, find the app with these problems and click on the padlock on the right side.
And else leave a bugreport on the OnePlus site.

I had this same issue with multiple apps
What fixed it for me was disabling advanced battery optimization. (Settings -> Battery -> Battery Optimization -> Three dots at the top right -> Advanced Optimization -> Disable it).

I had same issue for Gmail notifications. Disabling advanced optimization didn't help since system apps don't show there for me. What fixed it for me is removing it as system app (of course you need to be rooted to do that) and then installing as user app. Then removing advanced optimization. Now it shows live notifications for all emails I receive.

What you are talking about isn't advanced optimization, just normal battery optimization.
Advanced optimization is system-wide, not for individual apps. Either you have it disabled for all apps, or enabled for all.

Gmail is a system app so I can't change the battery optimization settings for it. However, I am curious of WhatApp and Hangouts as they are set to "Optimized" in the battery optimization settings and yet the notifications work fine for them.
But as also pointed by others, this has been a problem across different generations of OnePlus devices. I don't know why has this issue not been fixed and none of the reviewers ever mentioned it.
Yesterday, I found a partial workaround by installing the Light Manager app from Play store. With it I configured the LED notification for Gmail to be set as blue. Now whenever, I receive a notification (although delayed) I have a blue led notification but still no sound, which is really strange.

For me, it is slightly different. I get a new email notification immediately after I unlock my device.

To those not getting notifications, try this, go to gmail app, open settings, select the account for which you want notifications, click on inbox notifications, and tick notify for every message, you should start receiving notifications. Cheers.

I had the same problem with gmail. I ended up freezing/ deactivating the app and now using K9. Aquamail is good as well.
No problems since then. K9 also gives you the option to sync every x minutes if you think you don't get mail notification fast enough.

I installed the Google app called inbox virtually the same as Gmail ,I also disabled battery optimization,works perfectly

Had same issue with Gmail app, it doesn't appear under battery optimization. I cleared cached and cleared data in the app, uninstalled and then reinstalled. Haven't had an issue since. I think there was an update to it that didn't play well with Oxygen OS.

Were you able to remove just the gmail app or google entirely?

IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING NOTIFICATIONS on your Chinese NEX S, do this

I know that there are many posts that cover some of this, but I felt that if anyone just went through what I did, this may help consolidate the research and results. I was 5 minutes away from putting my Nex up on swappa as alerts from apps were completely hit or miss.
So, if you are not getting your alerts from apps like, Textra, Skype, Facebook messenger, Outlook, whatsapp, etc., make sure you do the following:
For each of these apps - follow the same path:
Settings> more settings> applications > Installed > Selected App > Select Permissions > Turn on all toggles to start > Select "Single Permission settings " Tun on all Toggles - MAKE SURE YOU SELECT AUTOSTART > then back 2 times and then select Notifications > Then turned all toggles on.
DO NOT FORGET TO TOGGLE "AUTOSTART" ON OR YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR ALERTS ON THESE APPS WHEN YOUR SCREEN IS OFF AND YOUR RESPECTIVE APP IS CLOSED!!
I recommend to turn every toggle on for each of the permission and notification options to start. You can always go back after you are sure all of your apps are properly notifying you and tinker with removing what logically -you don't want turned on.
HERE IS HOW I TESTED:
Test 1 - My phone on, my screen off - I sent messages from another phone using: Textra, Skype, Facebook messenger, Outlook, whatsapp. I then watched to see if they were triggered. All was well, with skype being the slowest.
Test 2: My phone was OFF. I then sent messages from another phone using: Textra, Skype, Facebook messenger, Outlook, whatsapp. I then turned my phone back on and watched to see if they showed up before my phone was unlocked. They all did !
AN ADDITIONAL OPTION TO ENSURE MESSAGE ALERT PERFORMANCE:
Settings > Battery > High Background Power Consumption > turn the toggle on for any app that you want to ensure your alert comes through. I have not seen any decernable drop in battery life with this turned on for a few of my apps.
LASTLY - If you still have an issue, I recommend you readup on how to ADB into your phone and then delete Vivo "Imanager" - (com.iqoo.secure). These are guides here on how to do it. I tested the above with and without imanager and both worked fine for me.
With these changes + having nova launcher now running and tweaked out, I am finally loving this phone !
All we need now are non-public Vivo account and life will be great !

It's a shame Vivo doesn't launch a good software. Muy Vivo iQOO Is on android 10 and after doing all these steps, muy WhatsApp still working bad. I don't get any notifications after a while.

Unfortunately I am still facing issues with the notification. I have followed all 3 steps as suggested. It's driving me crazy

It's a f**ing shame on the part of VIVO that there is not even an effective solution for notifications from many programs (WhatsApp, Telegram, Outlook, etc etc ...) to reach you.
I have tried absolutely everything and there is no way, it has driven me crazy and I have decided to buy another phone.
It is incredible that I have paid almost 500 $ (Iqoo Neo 3) for a phone that is a real beast in every way and one of the ESSENTIAL functionalities does not work, in 2020, with Android 10 ...
A shame... there is the phone put in a box...

EMUI 11 "power-intensive app" toggle gone?

Hey guys! I finally got the EMUI 11 update a few days ago, but there is something that's driving me crazy since. My P40 Pro is googlefied, and it has been and is working perfectly with GMS, but since I updated I keep getting a notification that the Google Services Framework is a power-intensive app and Huawei recommends me force closing it. I had these before with some apps on EMUI 10 too, like with Line and Facebook, but there used to be an option to turn off the "power-intensive" notification for a certain app. With EMUI 11 that seems to be gone, and I keep getting this notification about Google Services Framework at least twice a day. It is super annoying and I can't find a way to turn it off. I checked around the Battery settings, in the app settings, but the option seems to be gone. I hope one of you figured out how to deal with this, I really don't want to downgrade but I think I will if I can't fix this issue. Looking for help, thanks in advance!

This new updates that I done last week also same with popups about battery intense app for Google framework and GMS.. solution is just ignore it from the setting in battery... maybe next update will have a fix hopefully

Thanks for the reply! At least I know I'm not alone with the issue. Could you clarify your solution? How to ignore it in the battery settings? I couldn't find an option for it.

Okay I'm back after some testing. So first thing I tried was cleaning the cache of the Play Store, Google Services and Google Services Framework -> did not help. After that I compared the version info of said apps on my P40 Pro to my Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and even though the Store was up to date, i found out that the Google Services and GSF hasn't updated on my P40 Pro. I installed an app called "Launcher Google Play Services Settings (Shortcut)", and through that I was able to update my Google Services. It didn't break the installed GMS, but didn't fix the power intensive app notification either. After that I updated the Google Services Framework manully, downloaded the exact version my Mate 20 Pro has (10-6475670). Update went well, It did not break my GMS install, everything works perfectly but hasn't fixed the notification issue. Now I'm testing a workaround that seems to be working, but I'll give it an other day to see if it really works. If it does, I'll post my solution here.

Happy new year guys! Sorry for the late reply, as it fixed my problem I forgot about this topic. So the workaround is pretty easy, and it's about disabling notifications for the Optimizer app. EMUI doesn't have the option to disable notifications for Optimizer by default, but it is possible with a third party app called NCleaner, search "Notification Blocker & Cleaner & Heads-up Off" in the Play store. After install it will ask for permission to access notifications, then while the Notification Cleaner is turned on, click on the 3 dots on top right corner, go to settings. Search for the Optimizer app, and click on it (no need to mess around with the toggle, click on the Optimizer itself) and a menu will pop-up where you can completely disable the notifications for said app. After you turned it off, you can actually uninstall NCleaner, and the notifications will keep being turned off for the Optimizer even if you restart your phone, except if you go to the settings of EMUI, and open the Optimizer notifications menu, it will turn itself back on automatically. So install NCleaner, disable the notification for Optimizer with the help of it, uninstall the app, and don't open the notification settings of Optimizer or you'll have to turn it off in NCleaner again. This is actually not the main functionality for NCleaner, it can also hide notifications automatically for the apps, but I think it's easier to just disable it as it is, so NCleaner doesn't have to run in the background eating up battery.

Not working for me. Optimizer keeps coming up each time an sms has been blocked

Install adbapp then uninstall it. Disabling it doesn't work. No need for other apps.
