I am having Doubts - Vivo Nex Questions & Answers

Guys, i am really insecure if i should buy this Phone, I heard the camera is just meh, which i could live with (but only if that means medicore) and Software-OS is a huge Letdwown, can someone Tell me how realistic it would be that there will be custom roms? can it also be possible that there will never be custom Roms? and do you think this Phone could be Future proof (Talking about 2-3 Years) I do not want to regret it if i order it since it is a fair amount of money
currently using a nubia 717 mini and sick of it

This phone will never have a custom rom. Better wait the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 that will launch in october, Xiaomi release kernel sources few weeks/days after the launch. And Xiaomi's camera quality is not bad now

I used the mix 2s and it was a good experience but that LCD display was a let down and i could never live with that horrible selfie camera. Also, apps tend to hang and crash alot, at least when i used it. LCD was bad because of JDI manufacturers, same idiots who supplied oneplus with the displays in their oneplus one models which had the infamous yellow band at the bottom. If you're not OCD and can live with it go ahead. Cant fault that amazing 845 SD

coming from a glitchy, lagging Samsung S7 Edge with a pink line defect...
The camera is pretty meh. Hardware wise, it should have the oomph, but the software doesn't seem to optimize it. My 2 year old S7 seems to take slightly better pics from stock. Front facing pop up is more of a novelty but I like it.
The lower PPI screen is apparent compared to pixel rich Samsung phones. I'm not talking about the color, I can almost see the pixels. It's like going from a 4k tv to a DLP.
The on-display fingerprint reader works 9/10 times for me on the first try. I don't understand why people are having issues with it. Maybe they have dirty screens or dirty fingers. If it doesn't register it the first time, i give it quick rub with my finger and press down again and it get's it 100% on the second attempt. There might have been one time it wasn't working when my finger was wet. You can also register more fingers, so.....more chances to get it right.
I actually love the FunTouch OS because it is like iOS. Despite android having 10 million themes, iOS may be bland but it just works. Having FunTouch is like going back to that familiar comfort without resorting back to Apple.
I think it's too early on to say NEVER but it will depend how tech savvy you are messing with software internals, and comfortable with the risks associated with bricking your phone. This is not the phone to get if you want to do custom ROMs unless you want to be a pioneer.
No phone is future proof, and that's a good thing. Every year, new innovation inspires better designed phones. Of course, with daily use it will last you a good few years if handled with care. The most current software should also last at least 2 years even if Vivo doesn't get any further updates, as most app developers write programs going back at least one generation of software.
I bit the bullet, knowing well of the NEX's shortcomings but after going through Samsungs S7, S6, and Apple's 6, 5, 4, 3, and OG phones, I wanted to try something else. I wasn't impressed by the latest Note 9 and the upcoming iPhone X successor leaks are not promising as well. Having gone through the NEX and tweaking it to my liking, I am very pleased with this phone. I don't know if it's because I set the bar low, but it definitely surpassed my expectations, despite the negative reviews.

still worth buying Pixel 2? [June 2018]

I need a new phone. I've been on a Note 4 for a while now, and it has reached its end-of-life. Done tons of research, and even when compared against the latest-and-greatest, the Pixel 2 still reviews well. It seems to be exactly what I am looking for. Even though the announcement of the Pixel 3 is right around the corner, it will mostly likely be late Oct / early Nov before consumers can get them in hand anyway. Five months is a long time, and I'm kind of ready to make a move now.
Is the Pixel 2 still the way to go? Do I have to bite the bullet and get another Samsung and get an s9? (I'm on AT&T btw, and I'm really really sick of having a carrier locked phone and waiting on AT&T to add bloatware to all the updates).
Would I be stupid to get the Pixel 2 today? Talk me into it / talk me out of it.
You'd be stupid to go Samsung again, that's for sure.
The Note 4 was arguably Samsung's peak for the Note line, and the S7 Edge the peak for their S line. Sure the new designs are fancy, but are fragile, and Samsung are horrendous when it comes to updates.
I'd suggest looking into a OnePlus 6 especially if you're sick of being carrier locked. Cheaper and more powerful than the Pixel 2, better in every way aside from speakers and camera if they are important to you.
That being said, I miss my Pixel 2 XL for the software as it's so damn smooth, but I do not miss the abysmal screen (Note 4 screen is better). So if you go Pixel 2, definitely get the smaller one with the nicer Samsung screen.
As opposed to what ? Samsung ? Pixel 2 still had several years of guaranteed updates and a smoother software interface with less bloat. I could understand MAYBE if you said an iPhone as most businesses are starting to use iOS and Apple supports their software for several years but against a Samsung that's just a joke.
My $0.02., develop your own pros/cons list as no one knows what's more important to you, than you. Example, I absolutely hate lag in software, probably an unhealthy amount... I also enjoy a headphone jack, but that's less important than software to _me_. At the end of the day, no phone is better at software and camera than the Pixel 2 (I have non-XL, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S3) and that's what I think ultimately creates the Pixel appeal because literally every time you use your phone, in an app, to take a pic, etc, you get that top-of-the-line software experience. How much does Samsung's superior hardware matter when apps lag or freeze and frustrate the user or they're running a 6-month old security patch level?
Also got mine 50% off during Verizon's Black Friday deal last year, figured the savings was worth the locked bootloader. Then we got an unlock method anyways in December so win-win, half price + unlocked BL now. Is the P2 worth full price to you? Who knows. But good luck whatever path you choose!

I love my Pixel 2, but honestly the reason I bought it was because of the camera and because I thought there would be more rom development by this point, but mostly for the camera. I came from a oneplus 3t and I loved that phone so much. The development community was large and very active, and the phone's hardware was awesome.
If it wasn't for the Pixel 2's camera, I would've much rather upgraded to a newer oneplus device or even stuck with my 3t. But seriously, imo forget samsung and there locked ass bootloaders and stupidly overpriced phones.
I ditched Samsung (S6) finally last month and got the Pixel2. I am not much of a ROM flasher but root is very important to me. I was dreading going down in resolution but haven't regretted it once.
Is there any reason NOT to get the Pixel 2? What other phone is popular enough to receive continual updates, and easy to find accessories? Gives fast performance without lag-inducing bloat-ware?
I have an AT&T brand Note 8 and i really like the phone (wish i would have bought the unlocked version). But i like to root and flash roms occasionally and I'm pretty limited on the Note 8. Lucky me my work takes me all across Texas and i just happen to be where AT&T don't have service so i bought the Pixel 2 direct from Google and I'm loving it. I'm running it on Verizon. Super easy to unlock bootloader and root. I've only had it for about a month now and have only did one update (the June update) that got a little confusing but i figured it out (i downloaded it myself from Google instead of doing the ota). Personally, i think the camera on the Note 8 is better than the Pixel 2 camera, but i have both phones so i can always take pictures with the Note and it syncs to my Google photos and i have the pic on both phones. I do feel like the Pixel runs a lot smoother than the Note though. If you buy a Pixel, I'd suggest buying straight from Google so you don't have to worry about the bootloader, although i know carriers bundling things in makes it hard to pass up.
I believe it is still going strong and worth a buy.
Personally I don't the notch design which everyone is copying from Apple now.
In fact I bought one three weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. It's already running Android P DP3. I have considered a Huawei P20, but in the end went with the Pixel 2, mainly because of the fast updates and stock Android (I came from a Nexus 5X)
No regrets!
Meh not that many accessories...

Well, gotta disagree a little with you on the bolded section. The P2 just isn't sold in large enough numbers to get the choices in accessories like the mainstream iPhones, S9, etc. Otterbox Defender series only has 2 colors for crying out loud...
Edit: a word
It could be a winner for you if that's what you want...luv mine!
Personally I would wait and buy a cheaper, last year's phone in the meanwhile.
Pixel 2 series is great, but you still have to make hard compromises. If you want the 2018 screen quality, go pixel 2; if you want a 2018 battery life and screen size, go XL. But to me these 3 things are essential to a phone (ok maybe not the screen size). Considering the price being top of the lines even compared to an iPhone, and it is a 2017 phone (sort), I would wait.
Plus I got a feel that Pixel 3 may come with wireless charging and other technologies that would make using a phone more convenient. While Pixel 2 is just, with great camera. Not an important factor to me personally.
I just got it coming from a Huawei mate 10
Honestly its a great phone . I got the small version cuz I have a U11PLUS plus as my daily big screen phone. And it's awesome they have all these goodness in such a small phone can be handled one hand
At the moment u11plus plus 128gb and 6gb ram is going for 600$ ish on eBay. If u don't care about updates I would advice u to go with it. The camera with gcam performing better than the pixel believe it or not and the battery is the best in the market. Colours of amazing silver or red are phenomenal, nothing else comes close even the copycat p20 pro
Absolutely! I would recommend the Pixel 2 to anybody who asked I haven't even had any reason to want the XL - I've just got the 5" Pixel.
The software is essentially bloat-free (if you use the Google apps) and the experience is as polished as that of the iPhone.
(I'm not a fan of the iPhone but anybody who's used an Android can't deny on most phones the platform is bloated and a little half-assed in places.)
Plus, if you're big into getting the latest Android versions - we get the Android betas first (and they're supported for 2 years.)
And, once the 2 years are up, if you haven't got a new phone by then, I'd imagine there would be a ton of custom ROMs and such for the phone.
I'm planning on developing some ROMs for the Pixel 2 but I haven't for the moment because I have no reason to; the software is the best I've experienced, so I have no reason to mod the phone. (This is probably why there isn't much in the way of development going on for the phone)
In my opinion, the camera is excellent; I don't use it that much but when I do, it's fast, the quality is fantastic and I have trouble faulting it.
Finally, the battery life is great. As a student, I don't use my phone all day but relatively speaking, I'm quite a heavy user and I get about 3 hours more screen time than most others. Plus, as the phone charges to upwards of 80% in about 45 minutes, battery isn't really an issue. (5-10 minutes at an AC outlet can usually get it up to 20%.)
TL;DR: Particularly if you buy a phone for utility (rather than as a fashion statement), this phone is brilliant. It's the best Android device I've ever owned and, I think, one of the best on the market.
If you want something that looks a bit more flashy, I'd suggest the Pixel XL, though.
The give-a-friend 15% offer is making this pracitcally a no-brainer for me. That brings a brand new direct from Google Pixel2 to $550. That's basically the same price as low end or older model phones. Looks like I'll be picking one up. Thanks for the advice.
Feel free to add any more thoughts, tho, cause I'm sure as we get closer to the launch of the 3, more people are going to be asking for opnions on the 2 as a budget-friendly option.

Bored of my S9 plus! What phone do I switch too OP6 or P20 Pro

Hey guys, new to all this so go easy on me. Over the past few years I have become a bit of a tech fanatic. I like to get a phone, use for a few months then sell on while it retains value. I'm March I got the S9 Plus coming from a Note 8 and from that coming from an S8 Plus. I love Samsung through heaven and earth but have become slightly bored with their design and UI. I have been strongly considering the Huawei P20 Pro and the OnePlus 6. Can I have your thoughts please? I have read/watch so many reviews on the P20 Pro and it's seems amazing the lag is the main issue as I do now want it. I don't game, I use a phone for emails, text, whatsapp, web browsing, Twitter, Instagram etc. ?

I dont need or want both lol. It's just the lag on the Huawei phones, it's really putting me off at the moment, the old Kirin970 processor too, coming from the Exynos 9810 will feel like a downgrade but then the camera on the P20 will feel like an upgrade. So difficult. The Huawei seems perfect, but the lag and stuttering is a huge dealbreaker for me but I want to know if its as bad as people make our as we all know EMUI isnt the most polished skin.

It makes a lot of sense. I'm trying to get people's views on bith phones. I'm not saying I don't like Huawei either I have spoken seen a lot of people pull up the lag and unresponsiveness of the Huawei, yet I have just spoken to someone who is not a gamer who has had a P20 for 2 months now, uses his phone for what I use my phone for and has had no lag or stuttering what so ever. So im thinking will I even notice a difference coming from the Exynos 9810 to the Kirin970?
There are major cons woth both phones I'm just trying to get peace of mind with both so I can decide with a balanced view.
Thanks

Brother, S9 is a superior phone to both. I understand that you are bored, and that you have disposable income to switch phones at will. Which is why my original suggestion stands - get both. And stop being a little ... nice person.
EDIT: As a side note, there's nothing prettier than the Silk White OP6. Consider that.

I dont really care if the S9+ is more superior. I want a change and I only want one. I don't have disposable income. I sell to then replace, while the S9+ still has value over £500. I do love the one plus 6. But I want my worries addressed.
Battery: Smaller than S9+ - OP has dash charge so is it really a problem.
Speakers: Dual Speakers in S9+ - I mainly use Beats headphones.
Camera: S9+ a better all rounder - OP releasing camera update to make it a lot lot better
IP rating: S9+ IP68 water and dust - OP doesnt but does it really matter. (Although I have seen a few people with issues with dust in the camera.
Now I love the OnePlus 6 held it, feels good, it's an amazing change from the curved designs on Samsung I need a break from them. Then when you use it, the speed is absolutely unbelievable!!
These are my worries I just want peace of mind.

Battery life is really good. Less than 1% for 4 minutes of screen time with autobrightness on.
Screen off drain is inferior with my unit compared to Samsung phones, but I have a bad cellular signal (not with Samsung previously, new carrier with this phone) - therefore more power used by the radio, more drain. About 1% per 2 hours.
Speakers are weak. Not bad, but not great either. Piece of advice, get rid of overpriced junk that is Beats and get real audiophile headphones for the same price and 10 times better sound quality.
Camera is good, but not S9 good. Watch out though, so many reports of bad camera that I think it may be the weakest link in this phone - defective cameras are abound.
The phone is mostly water proof, according to JerryRigEverything YT channel, but it didn't pass the IP67 test, so it's vulnerable to submersions. Splashes, rain, occasional dunk should be just fine.
I think I will stick with the Huawei then purely because of the camera issues then! I love OnePlus, I love the brand and the ethic! I'm hoping the 6T will be a game changer!
Thanks for your time

Did it fail the IP67 test or did they just not pay to have it certified.
I have an S9+ that I gave to someone else in my family as I did not like it. The camera is great but I take very few pictures. For me, I want a rootable device. I also want as close to pure Android as you can get. I had a P10 and sold it within a month. The Huawei OS is horrid. It's like they thought they were making an iPhone.

I do love the OnePlus 6 but I take photos, not thousands but enough to merit wanting a decent camera! I love my S9+ but unfortunately my battery has got worse and worse since I got it in march, and like I said in my first post, since last year I have had the S8+ then the Note8 now the S9+ and it's been basically the same design, and im just so bored of it. Funny you mention the P10, when I got the S8+ last year I keep being pushed by Vodafone to get the P10 but I hated itamd wouldnt get it, the new P20 and the new EMUI is amazing and has changed so much since the P10!!

Neither. I know that "nearly stock" Android, with very few stutter is a very tempting thing but... You'll get a WAY worse screen (don't let anyone tell you the difference is minimal, it's bull****, the difference is huge), you'll get way worse speakers, you'll get a way worse camera, you'll lose the option to charge wireless, you fully lose the vibration motor (the one in the oneplus 6 is so damn awful, you literally won't believe it until you don't feel it, vibration mode is basically useless unless the phone is in your hand or on a surface like glass). The only advantage the OnePlus 6 has is the software. If you were coming from an older phone, I'd absolutely recommend you the OnePlus 6, it's a great phone. But coming from an S9+? You're giving up more than you realize and you're definitely going to regret it after some time.
I was so tempted for OP 6 but the camera is not up to the mark I am using Note 8!

That guy is FOS. Do I need to spell it out what that means?
"WAY worse screen"
Not even close. The screen is excellent. I've used Samsung flagship phones up to Note7, and I have had extensive experience with an S9. Aside from the resolution, the screen is nearly perfect. Beautiful colors, great brightness and in-sun visibility. Everything else - color temp, viewing angles, hues, color reproduction etc. are nearly perfect. Made by Samsung too.
"way worse camera"
Some truth to that. S9 camera is with no match. Even P20 Pro in my opinion is worse. But OP6 camera is not WAY WORSE. That's ridiculous. This man is inebriated with his own flatulence.
" you'll lose the option to charge wireless"
True.
" you fully lose the vibration motor (the one in the oneplus 6 is so damn awful, you literally won't believe it until you don't feel it"
That's just false. No more comments needed. The man is plain wrong.
"but coming from an S9+? You're giving up more than you realize and you're definitely going to regret it after some time."

Lol. The screen on the S9+ is nowhere near the quality of the OnePlus 6's. Did you read me say that the OnePlus 6's is bad or has any issues with viewing angles and so on? No, you did not. My point was that no matter how good the OnePlus 6's screen is, the S9's ****s on it. It's not just resolution, it's everything, even brightness.

That's just false. No more comments needed. The man is plain wrong.

The vibration motor on the OnePlus 6 is crap. Absolutely garbage. Coming from a Galaxy s8, the difference is night and day. The motor on the OnePlus 6 is tiny, weak, soft and it even makes an annoying sound when typing with haptic feedback on. Just google it and see how many more people are complaining about the issue. (The 3T and other OnePlus phones also suffered from this issue).

"but coming from an S9+? You're giving up more than you realize and you're definitely going to regret it after some time."
I loved the S9. But OP6 is also good. Very fast.

That was exactly my point. The OnePlus 6 has better, faster software. That's all. In everything else, the S9+ is superior.
The guy asked for an opinion, if you wanna be a blind fanboy, that's fine. But when trying to help someone decide where they'll spend 500$+, either give them fair advice or just stay quiet.
Edit: I missed this one.

Some truth to that. S9 camera is with no match. Even P20 Pro in my opinion is worse. But OP6 camera is not WAY WORSE. That's ridiculous. This man is inebriated with his own flatulence.

Have you ever even looked at raw files produced by both? Have you even done any serious photography with both? I'm not even gonna comment. If you believe the OnePlus 6's camera is anywhere nearly as good as the S9's, you're just delusional.

Is the development good or dying?

Atleast for me, forum seems to be full of people spamming, asking same questions over and over again, not using search. Also crying non stop about everything, having bought the phone for 150usd, and expecting it to be better than say Pixel for 1000usd. I also agree that community is bad. But development is good, a lot of custom roms, been using Pie rom Pixel Experience, runs like stock, no bugs, great performance and battery life. But if i were you, i would wait for redmi note 7.. much nicer design, a bit better soc, and probably better camera. And its gonna cost basically the same, well maybe 10euros more. Its not really logical buying redmi note 5 at this time, when you have newer devices for the same price. Even redmi note 6 costs the same and is newer, but the only upgrade on it is notched screen. RN7 is a real upgrade tho
Ive been on xda forums since 2008 or so, and i would usually buy flagship devices for a ****load of money, and community was always nice. My last 2 devices, were cheap ones from china, leeco le pro 3 and RN5, and in both cases community was way worse.. So i came to conclusion, the cheaper the device is, the ****tier the community is.

Its not a gimmick. Its a really good sensor from samsung, and it uses pixel bining technology. Combining 4pixels into 1, resulting in waaayyy bigger pixels and way more light coming in, resulting in good quality 12mpx photos. RN7 is a midrange device for a budget phone price. You cant get sd660 with all the other goodies for this price anywhere else.

Yes it can be replaceable, but why add a glass back if your phone has no wireless charging?
Also i found a discount on a note 5 pro in my store for just 100 bucks. It expires on 17 january. So what should i do? Buy it or wait?

Because design wise it looks much more premium than aluminium. Also they follow design line of other xiaomi phones. They released mi 8 series with glass back, and if you look at mi 8 light, youll see its the same design as RN7. So, you get new, modern design, and design wise it didnt cost xiaomi anything, because research and development was already done on mi 8 series. If they released another metal phone, looking just like RN5, people would be crying non stop.. They already were crying, because RN4, RN5, RN6 had basically same design..

The Redmi note 7 seems once again to be a very good phone for the price.
I am very happy with the RN5, updates are regular and I don't matter about dumb people who are always complaining about nothing. I'm not ready to change because I hope Android pie update as announced on the forum ( perhaps increasing photo and video mode) , but I am a bit afraid to loose call recording feature which is a very important functionality for me. As far I know, Android 9 doesn't allow it andI hope it will be still there thanks to Miui.
This is my first Xiaomi and I'm really impressed by the great quality of this smartphone.

From a now-reluctant Samsung Note fan to OP7 converts

I'm sitting on a fence I've been scooting on for the past 2 phone upgrades. Always felt like "OK, this is the time I jump off the Samsung ship" but have never done so. I currently have a Note 9 and in my head, the natural choice would be a Note 10+. That had been my thinking until Sprint released the OP7 Pro 5G. I know all the specs and all the differences between both on paper. I guess maybe I'm trying to get someone to convince me one way or another. I don't think I've seen a screen better than the ones on Samsung flagships and I'm afraid I'd be trading down if I went OP7. I know about the 90hz screen but since I've never seen it on a phone, I could live without it since I wouldn't know what I'm missing out on. At the same time, my s-pen use has dropped dramatically since I first used on on the Note 4 and honestly, I never use it unless I'm cropping a screenshot, which is rare. I live in Dallas. So I'd have access to Sprints 5G, as rudimentary as it is now. Hence the fence sitting. Basically, I'm looking for someone to slap the ish out of me and help me choose -_-

First off, I've read multiple reviews stating that the screen on the 7 Pro is as close to a screen on a Samsung phone as you're gonna get. The 90Hz is pretty badass. Especially when you can have a 60hz and a 90hz screen next to each other, the difference is night and day. Second, Samsung is garbage, trust me, I've had every Galaxy since the S7 Edge (except Notes) up to the S10. The software experience is sublime compared to Samsung's. Granted, OneUI has definitely come a long way from TouchWiz, but it's still laggy, heavy, and bogs down after awhile IMO. The cameras are far from Samsungs quality, but it's a phone camera, and to be honest, I prefer OnePlus's camera over Samsung's because it's not oversaturaded and punchy (OP is more natural). The pop-up camera is awesome, just because of the added screen real estate. The phone screams with an AOSP based ROM, hell, even on OOS. The performance is amazing. I had the S10, and it could barely play a full match of Fortnite without running out of RAM. I'm always using 3.8 out of 7.8gb of RAM at all times even with heavy gaming such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Shadowgun Legends, Asphalt 9, PUBG Mobile, etc. To top it all off, can't go wrong with the Alert Slider. Good luck with the 5G version though, to me, it's worth getting the 7 Pro over the 5G version, especially if you wanna get into rooting/modding. So many people complain about it not having ROM/development support. Plus, 5G is just getting started, I would personally give it a few years before it's something to even write home about. LTE does me fine enough since I have 100mbps at home and I'm not on my phone much at work. If you need to know anything else, let me know.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is not a device you get cause of it's bells & whistles. You'd want to get it cause it gets the job done many $900+ phones already do. I believe The OS is the main feature for OnePlus phones. It may not have stuff stuff OneUI does but OxygenOS is very, very fast. OnePlus makes sure their OS is consistently fast
The 90hz display is out of this world. It is HARD to go back to a 60hz display. Using my girlfriends Galaxy S10+ looks jittery when scrolling & I just don't like it, haha.
Updates, this is where OnePlus shines. 3 years of guaranteed Android version updates. Not quarterly security updates. We're talking full on Android versions. The OnePlus 3/3T is on Android Pie & it came out in 2016! Same year the Galaxy S7 came out & it's stuck on Oreo (officially) forever.
The only thing you'll be missing is Wireless charging & a headphone jack. The camera does a pretty good job, but it could be better.
So, if you're the type of person that wants fast updates, a fluid, consistent, stock-ish Android experience, & 3 years of guaranteed updates. This phone is for you.
Depends if you want no corner cuts, a much better camera, battery knife, and the extra features like reverse wireless charging which is now good at 10 watts vs 5 and etc.
Keep in mind the note 10 has a much brughter and higher quality OLED panel as they do have the best displays in the world 90HZ aside.
In terms of 90HZ, it's still not supported in 99% of apps and 99% of games, and will automatically turn itself off even during scrolling in your browser like chrome, a lot of users don't even notice. It depends if you like it that much, and wether that's a gamble you're looking to take.
The op 7 pro has had a ton of software issues, might be due to R&D but I'm not sure, I think most are fixed by now though.

First of all, I appreciate the answers, fellas. I've been in the Samsung ecosystem for so long, its become a crutch when thinking of buying something else. That said, this worries me if accurate. Maybe I've been spoiled by Samsung and all their bells and whistles, but I really was looking forward to the 90hz screen. Though ever since Samsung began locking down all their phones, quick updates like on the OP7 are really appealing. I almost feel like I'll end up flipping a coin

This isnt true, i feel his comment is from someone not owning the device.
I use latest OOS 9.5.11 with twrp, magisk, forced 90hz script and renovate ice magisk mod.
And i can tell you, in every app i use its on 90hz, some games Are locked at 30fps but its not that many but thats not OPs fault, its the games fault. Many games that run 30fps Will run at 60+ when you have the forced 90hz command and the phone feels blazing fast in Chrome, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, using the phone in general!
I had the S9+ before i changed to OP 7 Pro, and this is the best phone ive ever had! And ive had alot og phones! P30 Pro, iPhone X, S9+ and more, and none og these can Even touch the op7 pro in software and speed.
This is my 2cents, if im changing phones again itll be either a pixel 5xl or OP 8 Pro ?

Get the OP7. OOS is so much better than the Samsung interface. And if there is something about the OOS interface you don't like, mod it!
You have so much more choice and so much more freedom if you go for the OP7 Pro.

Exactly this. Loyal Samsung users have this weird... Lack of a better word, hatred for OnePlus & I never understood it.
I own the Note 9 and the OP7 Pro and the Note is sitting on my desk. yes, the Note 9 has a better, brighter screen in the daylight and has AOD and a 'slightly' better camera IMO. I never used my S pen so thats useless feature to me. never used Samsung Pay either. I like the direction One UI is going though. But using the latest OP7 Pro open Beta based on Android 10, I absolutely love the phone. the screen to me just seems better with everything. I'm not talking the 90hz, I'm talking looking at it. Somethign about the OP screen just is sexier to me. Plus the screen is much smoother, not bloated, and better experience to me. And the battery life destroys the Note hands down. Like, seriously.
Just go to your local Sprint or T-Mobile store when you have time, and play with the device. Go through the software, play a few games on it, turn the refresh rate to 60 then 90 a few times, use the cameras, etc. Please don't buy the device just based off our opinions, buy it because of what you think of it. You have no idea how many times I've had buyers remorse due to the hype of a new phone (S10 as a perfect example). Good thing I have Jump on Demand which let's me upgrade 12 times a year or every 30 days, which helps a lot when I pull the trigger too fast. Plus the OnePlus 7 Pro has liquid cooling as well, I don't know if that means anything to you, but to me, that's pretty damn cool seeing how only the S10+ had it and the S10 didn't. Plus $700 VS $900, the only place I'm seeing a $200 difference is very slight screen quality, and lack of camera quality, but then again that's because OnePlus seems to take more natural looking pictures. What made me jump from the S10 to the 7 Pro was because the 7 Pro had basically everything the S10 did, but it was cheaper, and you could mod it.
90hz screen is cool but not a deal breaker going back to different devices. Used my op7 pro for a few weeks and had to use note 9 and lg v30 while finding a dual SIM version.
This is the first OnePlus device I'm going to keep longer than a month. Could never get use to the 1080p display coming from good quality qhd devices. And no this display doesn't come close to Samsung's flagships but it gets the job done.
Pro and a con is that it's stock Android. It's boring but clean and consistently fast. currently playing with Android 10. Nice not waiting forever on the oem's to update.
I came from Samsung's since s2. 1st op I owned is the 7 pro and it's badass. Serving a kernel or rom on this is tremendously easier vs s9 note 9/10 and oc is easier Samsung I had to do a lot to get oc on the S7 s9 .
Been there (Samsung) done that. I have not looked back after getting the OnePlus 7 Pro! Cheers
I've been a Samsung user since the S5. My last Samsung was the S8+. All have been the Exynos variant because it used to beat Snapdragon performance-wise. Then Snapdragon started to beat Exynos but has a locked bootloader. That's what made me switch to OnePlus 7 Pro. I love that it's so easy to unlock bootloader and root. Like it's MY phone and I can do with it whatever I want. I also have the forced 90hz script like people mention here and I haven't seen any apps revert it back to 60hz aside from some games. I get a lot of compliments on the screen and the color (Nebula blue). OOS is fast. The battery life is amazing for me. I'm very happy with the switch. I also really like the stock screen protector it comes with. Still in great shape and it feels great.

That's why I decided to sell my Oneplus 7 Pro and went to a Samsung S10+

General Pixel 6 v OP9

What do you guys think of the new Pixel 6 that was (sort of) announced? Anyone planning to switch over when it gets released this fall?
Personally, I've constantly being going back and forth between Pixel and OnePlus devices.
I was thinking of sticking with OnePlus this time around but I've been dealing with poor RAM management on this device as well as feeling like the camera partnership with Hasselblad didn't live up to its hype. Tweaking just the colour science isn't enough for me, and it's unfortunate there's no OIS on the standard OnePlus 9 either.
The enhancements to the camera, particularly video recording on the Pixel 6 seems promising, so I'm pretty excited and I'm most likely going to switch!
I mean, even if the base model has OIS it'll be a vast improvement over the OP9. Hell, even EIS will destroy the OP9.

im still so amazed how my OP6 has OIS and my "hasslebrand" advert focused 9 does not. it baffles me that call was made.
Ive tried every ROM and many camera apps on each of them, all of them have such terrible camera issues with auto-focus times and whitebalance bleeding. Its hardly noticeable in videos and pictures but try to scan QR codes with it off another screen, if that QR code is a succession of them (say, for secure crypto wallet confirmations on a hardware wallet) it makes it IMPOSSIBLE to do without optimal lighting and YOU moving the phone around until its focus/lighting can play along. its so bad, Ive kept my OP6 instead of selling it.
I have other issues but Id like to end on a positive for OP. My 9 has had 2 issues and both were caused by me flashing ROMs. both times left the phone unable to use MSMToolkit and both times ive sent my phone in, free of charge, and got it back in complete working condition, free of charge. One was even a complete phone replacement. Not the easiest support system to utilize but as a non-warranty user, the 2nd time really shocked me i didnt have to pay a dime. I flashed the phone with MSM right when i got to to assure it worked and sure enough, it does. (and i didnt learn a damn thing because im running crDroid and loving it.) I'm almost certain both times were caused by the unofficial TWRP port for 9/9Pro, so I would avoid that at all costs.
Simply put, I will be making the switch.
Switching. Definitely switching.
I don't really care about phone cameras that much, so for me I'd rather keep the OP9 than go to a phone with a brand new SoC from a company known for very crappy first iterations, bad documentation, and bad support of their own products. These phones are going to be way too expensive for what they are (ugly as hell), when you can get a OP9 for probably half the price of the new Pixel phones.
I'd rather have an iPhone or overspend on a Samsung with a snapdragon than buy the pixel 6

I can understand that but personally I tried iphone recently for about 2 months and I had to switch back to android. The 12 pro max was just too heavy and had too many things that annoyed me because android did it better lol. I haven't owned Samsung since the note 5 and I'll probably never own another Samsung phone. Their skin and their bloat apps are just not for me. Been with OnePlus a while but the OnePlus 9 really disappointed me. My phone overheats just browsing the internet or using WhatsApp. It's annoying and the battery life is crap especially compared to the 12 pro max I had.

ya my iPhone/Samsung comment was really more joking. My point is that if your OP9 overheats then that's a specific unit problem, like I would just get a different one, or a Oneplus 8 Pro, or even a xiaomi 11 Ultra. I feel like the new Google device is going to have major issues like new google stuff always does. If you think your phone has issues now wait until you play wiht a brand new SoC from the one company notorious for putting out half baked, half finished products that usually get canned.

The s21 overheats to bad I sold mind and got OnePlus 9 I don't think I will be going back to Samsung anytime soon I ain't sure if it's just the chip or just the phone but I did notice that OnePlus phone don't get hot like Samsung does
I'm keeping a watch on the Pixel 6 Pro as a possible next device....

P6 100% The ride has been good but will be coming to an end.
I love my Oneplus 9 honestly. No bugs or issues, no overheating. Battery life is good. no curved screen (I cannot STAND curved screens). I mean for me it just works. That 120hz screen is awesome. there's not too much bloat and it's easily rooted.
Plus you can get it for a really good price right now. The warp charge it comes with is cool basically a full charge from nothing in 25 minutes or so. And wireless charging. No other frills needed, camera is good enough for me.
I will see what hte Pixel 6 has in store for me, but honestly I think it's going to be overpriced and not much or any better than the current snapdragon 888 offerings. I like competition, and I hope the new tensor SoC will make Qualcomm worry and start pushing their chip designs (like what AMD is doing to Intel).
But for me, I really feel like I am going to ride or die with the OP9 until OP11 or Xiaomi Mi Mix 5/6 or something that is actually really cool. Samsung has a horrible UI, is overpriced, and is a bit boring for me. Pixel phones have been outdated when they are released with older chip hardware and small screens while having a high price tag.
Let's keep a close eye on the Pixel 6, I could always jump ship too if I it blows me away..

I'm skeptical yet excited at the same time. Really hoping Google blows us all away with a beast of a device!

Well I loved the Nexus One, which might still be my favorite new phone release to this day, so I guess it's not impossible.
still on cdDroid. love the built in buds control. other roms are reporting bluetooth playback issues, mine isnt.
My pixel dialer features broke for a day but the latest module fixed it https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/GoogleDialerFramework (just know, i run beta releases of messages, phone and carrier services alone with having the originals disabled.
if you want pixel 6 AI voicscreening, install the modual then clear cache of google play, google services and reboot!
we do not deserve the generosity of /u/audalics
Well Google proved once again they think it's OK to provide old hardware with flagship pricing again, because camera gimmicks.
The Pixel fanboys are hard at work forgiving Google for providing inferior CPU, modem, display, battery charging, fingerprint, aesthetic design, and more for the privilege of being Google's buggy software beta testers.
Android in weird place with OnePlus now settling on everything they once bragged or made fun of others for doing.
I don't think there will be much improvement I switching from OP9 to Pixel, just going from one set of annoyances to another. All I can say for certain is the display modem and CPU are superior on OP9. Will see if A12 improves OP9 experience.

Pixel 6 screen is a blotchy OLED mess, sent my first one back and ordered a second. If the second one is terrible I'm rooting the op9 and getting Google dialer features. The screen is the single most important part of a smartphone.

I'm a pixel fanboy for sure but after returning the pixel 6 I tried two pixel 5a phones and both had horrible OLED displays, both returned. I bought a pre owned OnePlus 9 from Amazon and this screen is freaking amazing, uniform and even lighting and smooth as butter. If the second p6 screen isn't great I'll keep the op9 or go back to my pixel 4xl.
My big gripe on the 9 is the reception is terrible and I have BT issues all the time in my Hondas. Works ok with wireless Buds Z.
I was hoping the Pixel 6 would be better. I guess I can always go back to my 7 Pro.
