Hey there. Do you all think that the Metro Variant of the G Stylo will receive the Marshmallow Update, now that the T-Mobile variant should be getting the update? Any thoughts? I checked the LG Open Source page and there's no sign of marshmallow for the T-Mobile variant or the Metro PCS variant, so thats also got me scratching my head a bit. Any thoughts?
I know is weird i have the t-mobile version and didnt get the update yet i double check via lg bridge on pc and it said my phone is update but im still on 5.1.1 lollipop. And some ppl on threads said they have been updated but no kdz files uploaded this is cracking me up.

T-mobile roms work on metro phones without issue. Im running one now. When the marshmallows flashable zip is posted on xda im gonna test drive it then flash back to 5.1 until root and twrp is working.

Pretty simple just follow these steps from DrakenFX return2stock
Instead grabbing files for MetroPCS you grab the T-Mobile one.

I tried this last night, it did install the tmobile firmware without a problem, and it also installed a 146 meg update, but thats all it gave me, did not detect or install MM, i tried LG Bridge and what it did was detect my phone as a Metropcs version and wanted to download and install the metro Firmware.
Maybe i did something wrong who knows, lol..

So let me get this straight. I have to Root my phone, via whatever method works, and then follow the instructions on that link to flash tmobile stock rom, then grab the OTA?
Cant I root and then use a program like....idk titanium back up or Rom Toolbox to flash that rom?

I went back update center and checked again and it was there. The mm update downloaded again for some reason. When i tried to install it aborts just before finishing. I wanted to no if it was possible fastboot flash boot and system

You can't take an OTA if your phone is already rooted. If you had not rooted, you would have had a working MM on your phone and THEN you can root after.

Followed the steps you did (at least from what you've given us.)
I downloaded an update.zip from the tmobile marshmallow update, transferred it to data/fota and ran the software installer but nothing shows up. keeps reading my system is up to date (Im using a metropcs device like you & running a tmobile stock rom as well.)
I had to make an insurance claim on my AT&T G3 recently and they sent me a G4 Android 6.0 / h81020n, build MRA58k. From what I understand, there's no way to root it and many don't expect there will be for a while...is that right? If so, what are my best options to downgrade and then root it? It's my only phone, and though I'm extremely competent with this stuff, I need to be sure it's a surefire method of downgrading. Thanks

As of now, I'm going to be bold with my statement about the G4: The AT&T cannot and will not ever have an unlocked bootloader. I would also assert the likelihood of root on Marshmallow is slim to none. I'd say "none", except there's always a remote chance that someone with the time/money/know-how will decide not to give up until they've figured it out.
When you say "downgrading", I presume you mean going back to a previous build? If so, it is not possible. It would require the level of access that only an unlocked bootloader could provide, from what I understand. I think there was mention of some sort of bypass option that works on other devices, but it doesn't work with this one.
Long story short: get comfortable with your current experience, because it isn't likely to ever change with this device. I too had to replace my device under warranty (for the 2nd time), and was bummed when the replacement arrived having Marshmallow on it.

I have not been able to downgrade H81020n since I got a replacement phone due to the infamous bootloop issue. I'm starting to wonder if somehow AT&T with or without support of LGE figured out which phones were rooted and injected some network packets to stress the radios in this device causing failures.
What's really unfortunate is the replacement devices all come with Marshmallow 6.0 on the H81020n ROM. That locked-down image, with the locked bootloader have made this device much less fun.
I've tried several downgrade paths with no success; the low-effort Root method, TOT downgrades with the LG flash utility, and good old fashioned send_commands.exe for image restoration to stock.

Did you load the.tot, close the LGUP program then reopen it and attempt the flash?
Did you change the Port # in Device Manager?
Can the same downgrade be done on 21y for h810 I miss root
This is for the development of a root procedure for the LS997. Any posts that are too off-topic, I will ask to have deleted. I have a method that will work for the LS997, but sorry, I am not posting it till we get Oreo.
This thread will attempt to use holes that have already been patched. There are no guarantees that this will work, but it gives me something to do while waiting for Oreo, and if it pans out, LS997 gets root NOW!
So, with the LS997 we have a couple of problems:
1 - There is no KDZ available
2 - ARB is incremented, so a KDZ from another model can't be used since the H918 is the only other model that is ARB 1, and the RSA sig doesn't match
3 - The bootloader is locked, so it needs the engineering bootloader
4 - LAF is locked down by an additional qfuse that the other models don't have blown
So, how do we get around these problems? That is what this thread is about.
I am NOT posting links so that someone doesn't just grab the stuff and brick their phone. If you have to search for it, then maybe you will actually read the risks:
Attempt 1:
* Grab the patched LG UP
* Grab the H918 10j KDZ -- it MUST be 10j
* Using partition download mode, try to flash laf and ONLY laf.
If LG UP complains that partitions have changed -- STOP! Do NOT click OK, and report the results here.
If you get that message, and you let LG UP flash, it will flash MORE than just the H918 laf (which is safe to flash), and your phone will be bricked since the RSA key won't match for the other partitions.
If it doesn't complain about partitions being different, then it is safe to flash since only laf will be flashed.
Again, if that is the case, report back here and we can move on.

It has been confirmed that If you have the engineering bootloader, AND have a fusing device (which AFAIK all LS997 are), AND install firmware that is ARB 1 or greater, it will brick your phone.
If you are ARB 1 or greater, and install the eng. bootloader -- brick.
When I was doing testing on ARB and the engineering bootloader, I was doing it on a non-fusing device, so my results are null and void.
So, we need a method of unlocking the production bootloader -- and there is, just not the LS997 aboot. It would require flashing either the H915 or US996 aboot, and you can't do that due to ARB.
Unless an engineering aboot leaks that is ARB 1 or an engineering boot leaks that has dm-verity disabled, or a flaw is found in the current aboot, I do not see the LS997 getting root.
EDIT: not trying to keep too much hope alive, but if when Oreo is released, they increment ARB on either the H915 or US996 and DON'T increment it on the LS997, then you would be able to flash either aboot and root....

Ik, but I was just hoping if and when the us996 and h915 models get Oreo, the ARB gets incremented for them.
Hey everyone, some good news! The Oreo update for the LS997 has been released today, version LS99720a. First US V20 phone to get Oreo. Someone mentioned on reddit it might get a KDZ as it doesn't follow Sprint's versioning of ZVA ZVB etc. Best of all Anti Rollback (ARB) is still 1: https://imgur.com/a/fBlRxN7 I'm downloading it now and it's 1.8GB in size. Next up is possibly the AT&T H910 as it's already on LG's Open Source since mid July. 'Final' release of Oreo for V20 is on August 7 2018 in the US.

Yes, you can upgrade. Rollback will not be needed -- although I am sure you could. The determining factor on rooting the LS997 is finding an aboot that either has a security hole, or they have to increment ARB on the US996.
If neither of those things happen, then the LS997 will remain without root.

Yep, Oreo has started rolling out for the H872 G6.
Now, why am I posting this in the V20 forums? Well, for one, the V20 shouldn't be too far behind the G6 since the SD821 and SD820 are so similar. As a matter of fact, they are so similar that I was able to root the H872 using the H918 laf.
Also, as soon as I can get my hands on the Oreo KDZ, I will see just what LG has done security wise. I doubt it will be much different for the V20.
Lastly, I intend to take the H872 system image, and get (at least) the H918 Oreo early. Getting H872 Nougat running on the H918 was no big deal (no reason to release it since WE have Nougat), I can't imagine that Oreo will be any different.

So, a little update. Oreo will NOT boot on Nougat firmware.
I thought maybe I was missing something, so I had someone with a G6 test it to make sure that it wasn't a bad port that I had done. They flashed Oreo boot and system, and no go.
It is even worse. Partitions that I thought were readonly got messed up on my V20, and if I wouldn't have had a full dump, I would have had a brick.
I could probably go through and figure out what they did, but I am not wasting my time till V20 Oreo is available.
TL;DR: LG *HAS* added security to Oreo.

No, we won't have to stay on Nougat. However, if someone doesn't have root now, getting root once the Phone is on Oreo will be a lot harder if it is possible at all. I can't say for certain until I have the V20 version.
To elaborate, the rooted laf image that I have that passes the SIGN hash check, is from Nougat so it won't boot on Oreo firmware....

Root while you can! Read somewhere someone saying that once on oreo you won't be able to go back to nougat any truth to that? Doesn't sound right to me.

If they increment ARB then no, you won't be able to go back. However, I don't know about other carriers, but T-Mobile has never incremented ARB on the first version of a new OS release in case there are problems.
Again, that part is speculation. I can only say for certain that Nougat kernels will not boot with Oreo firmware, and Oreo kernels will not boot with Nougat firmware -- so having a hybrid system isn't going to be possible.

So another update. I have managed to boot the H872 Oreo system on H918 Nougat firmware. I am having a little trouble getting the screen to init properly, so it isn't usable.
I am going to keep putzing with it, and see if I can get a usable screen.
Bottom line though is this gives me hope that we can all keep root even if LG throws some more crap in to try and prevent Oreo from running on Nougat firmware, and the Oreo firmware locks the phone down.

i just ordered an lg v20 at&t model, and would like to know how to either update it or convert it to the unbranded version, as I am from the UK. Is it also possible it can be done without root, and by just using the software flashing tool?

Yeah, grab yourself the modded version of LGUP, download the KDZ (Most likely US996) and flash it. No root involved.
I'm in the same boat as the OP, in the UK.
I broke my International version HD990DS which I've had for a couple of years, and scored a replacement H910 on ebay (£115, sealed in box, 2019 date on battery). I received it this morning.
I wasn't aware when I bought it that it was an AT&T brand (unlocked), on Android 7, and un-updateable OTA here in the UK.
The kdz I'm downloading is 'US99620f_00_1120.kdz' from here: https://www.mylgphones.com/unlocked-lg-v20-us996-received-oreo-update-us99620f.html
Should this be good to go? I'm not aware what bands this enables. The bands EE use here are 1,3,7 & 20.
Is there a 'better' kdz I should be downloading?

[edit] further to the above, for any UK EE users, the page here gives EE APN details which will need inputting if your phone isn't going to be a wifi only paperweight. Other operators and phones are listed in the site:

In this page you'll note EE does not support the H915 for 4G at all.

to flash cross model use partition dl mode, select all partitions. iirc
(not applicable to you specifically, but as a reminder to anyone else who reads this)
Remember, never ever flash (T-mobile) H918 firmware on anything but an H918, and if you have an H918 never ever flash another model's firmware. Instant permanent brick.

Did you manage to get oreo on H910? My mother has a H910 stuck in Nougat, but I'd like her to get the oreo update without having to mess with root or anything hard for her to use.
Not yet... I'm waiting until I've had the crap annoyed out of me enough before I invest the few hours time to put everything back on this phone that I want.
As all partitions have to be rewritten then its a case of starting from a totally fresh phone. Which is a chore that I'll do sometime, but not until this week at least is of the way....

Lgup patched linked above using partial download you can load Oreo from us996 or h915. H915 = H910 only Canadian version with respective network software.

IIRC it was the world's slowest download, reminiscent of using a dial-up modem (well, almost).
The H915 is the canadian version of the US H910, so no worries about hardware incompatibilities
Update in patched LGUP (using 'partitions.dl' option) took about 5 minutes and was painless (one warning screen popped up at start of f/w update process in LGUP saying USB was disconnected, but I ignored this throughout the update and left it showing) .
APN numbers need to be added
I backed up data (phone logs, messages etc) first in LG Mobile Switch app first, saving to SD Card. Which I took out of the phone first before the update 'just in case'.
No more AT&T crap, and Android 8.0.0, which is back to how my last V20 990DS was before I broke it (water damage).
It's a bargain phone for £120 on eBay. Good luck!
