Yep, Oreo has started rolling out for the H872 G6.
Now, why am I posting this in the V20 forums? Well, for one, the V20 shouldn't be too far behind the G6 since the SD821 and SD820 are so similar. As a matter of fact, they are so similar that I was able to root the H872 using the H918 laf.
Also, as soon as I can get my hands on the Oreo KDZ, I will see just what LG has done security wise. I doubt it will be much different for the V20.
Lastly, I intend to take the H872 system image, and get (at least) the H918 Oreo early. Getting H872 Nougat running on the H918 was no big deal (no reason to release it since WE have Nougat), I can't imagine that Oreo will be any different.

So, a little update. Oreo will NOT boot on Nougat firmware.
I thought maybe I was missing something, so I had someone with a G6 test it to make sure that it wasn't a bad port that I had done. They flashed Oreo boot and system, and no go.
It is even worse. Partitions that I thought were readonly got messed up on my V20, and if I wouldn't have had a full dump, I would have had a brick.
I could probably go through and figure out what they did, but I am not wasting my time till V20 Oreo is available.
TL;DR: LG *HAS* added security to Oreo.

Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
No, we won't have to stay on Nougat. However, if someone doesn't have root now, getting root once the Phone is on Oreo will be a lot harder if it is possible at all. I can't say for certain until I have the V20 version.
To elaborate, the rooted laf image that I have that passes the SIGN hash check, is from Nougat so it won't boot on Oreo firmware....

If they increment ARB then no, you won't be able to go back. However, I don't know about other carriers, but T-Mobile has never incremented ARB on the first version of a new OS release in case there are problems.
Again, that part is speculation. I can only say for certain that Nougat kernels will not boot with Oreo firmware, and Oreo kernels will not boot with Nougat firmware -- so having a hybrid system isn't going to be possible.

Oreo sources for the Korean variant has been posted also.
So another update. I have managed to boot the H872 Oreo system on H918 Nougat firmware. I am having a little trouble getting the screen to init properly, so it isn't usable.
I am going to keep putzing with it, and see if I can get a usable screen.
Bottom line though is this gives me hope that we can all keep root even if LG throws some more crap in to try and prevent Oreo from running on Nougat firmware, and the Oreo firmware locks the phone down.

brian thank you for taking the time for this work. Is there any way I can get the kdz? or is it just the g6(h872) t0t or kdz?
It is the H872 KDZ, and you can get it from lg-firmwares.com.

This is for the development of a root procedure for the LS997. Any posts that are too off-topic, I will ask to have deleted. I have a method that will work for the LS997, but sorry, I am not posting it till we get Oreo.
This thread will attempt to use holes that have already been patched. There are no guarantees that this will work, but it gives me something to do while waiting for Oreo, and if it pans out, LS997 gets root NOW!
So, with the LS997 we have a couple of problems:
1 - There is no KDZ available
2 - ARB is incremented, so a KDZ from another model can't be used since the H918 is the only other model that is ARB 1, and the RSA sig doesn't match
3 - The bootloader is locked, so it needs the engineering bootloader
4 - LAF is locked down by an additional qfuse that the other models don't have blown
So, how do we get around these problems? That is what this thread is about.
I am NOT posting links so that someone doesn't just grab the stuff and brick their phone. If you have to search for it, then maybe you will actually read the risks:
Attempt 1:
* Grab the patched LG UP
* Grab the H918 10j KDZ -- it MUST be 10j
* Using partition download mode, try to flash laf and ONLY laf.
If LG UP complains that partitions have changed -- STOP! Do NOT click OK, and report the results here.
If you get that message, and you let LG UP flash, it will flash MORE than just the H918 laf (which is safe to flash), and your phone will be bricked since the RSA key won't match for the other partitions.
If it doesn't complain about partitions being different, then it is safe to flash since only laf will be flashed.
Again, if that is the case, report back here and we can move on.
Yea, so scratch that. I had been missing a BIG part of Android Verified Boot. Please see my post here: [insert link]

Finally your post this thread, thank you Brain.
However LS997 is the only smartphone I have now, so I can't try to brick it
Will we be able to flash the dirty santa bootloader after rooting the phone using your method?
It has been confirmed that If you have the engineering bootloader, AND have a fusing device (which AFAIK all LS997 are), AND install firmware that is ARB 1 or greater, it will brick your phone.
If you are ARB 1 or greater, and install the eng. bootloader -- brick.
When I was doing testing on ARB and the engineering bootloader, I was doing it on a non-fusing device, so my results are null and void.
So, we need a method of unlocking the production bootloader -- and there is, just not the LS997 aboot. It would require flashing either the H915 or US996 aboot, and you can't do that due to ARB.
Unless an engineering aboot leaks that is ARB 1 or an engineering boot leaks that has dm-verity disabled, or a flaw is found in the current aboot, I do not see the LS997 getting root.
EDIT: not trying to keep too much hope alive, but if when Oreo is released, they increment ARB on either the H915 or US996 and DON'T increment it on the LS997, then you would be able to flash either aboot and root....

Ik, but I was just hoping if and when the us996 and h915 models get Oreo, the ARB gets incremented for them.
Hey everyone, some good news! The Oreo update for the LS997 has been released today, version LS99720a. First US V20 phone to get Oreo. Someone mentioned on reddit it might get a KDZ as it doesn't follow Sprint's versioning of ZVA ZVB etc. Best of all Anti Rollback (ARB) is still 1: https://imgur.com/a/fBlRxN7 I'm downloading it now and it's 1.8GB in size. Next up is possibly the AT&T H910 as it's already on LG's Open Source since mid July. 'Final' release of Oreo for V20 is on August 7 2018 in the US.
LS997 arb=1, let’s wait for H915 and Ú996
So... stay on nougat till other Oreo versions are released? Or is it ok to upgrade?
Yes, you can upgrade. Rollback will not be needed -- although I am sure you could. The determining factor on rooting the LS997 is finding an aboot that either has a security hole, or they have to increment ARB on the US996.
If neither of those things happen, then the LS997 will remain without root.

All we can do is wait until Oreo update is available for H915/ S996
I have a H910 V20 bought in AliExpress. I can't update the phone, because I live in Brazil and have no AT&T here. I'd like to only update to Oreo without root. I think my phone has no root. I saw that only install the H915 KDZ firmware it goes to Oreo without the AT&T apps. But I'm afraid of the phone is not original H910 and I brick my phone after the update. How do I know if my V20 won't brick after the update? And what version of the H915 do I have to install? Here says H91010m, build NRD90M. Is only install with LGUP software. Can you halp me?
Gonna be honest with you:
Since you're on the H910 model (AT&T) and since there has never been a kdz for this variant. The only true way to install an update from official to official would be to use mobile data service and get the update rolled out to you via OTA. What i am saying is unless you root your phone, you'll be stuck on nougat stock. I say root your phone and download RR Second Screen builds, they are solid and worthy of a try but if that is not what interest you then no dice i guess. I might be wrong but that seems to be what i know of the H910.
Edit: If it happens to not be H910 then you may be in luck. I am useless on this but thought since i saw this, i would pitch in.
But I have to root? In the case I Just want the Android 8 Oreo. I do not want the root. Whats happen If I install the H915 Oreo KDZ? It Will brick? I Saw people talking that 915 firmware ia similar to the H910, but ia better because hás no ATT apps. It Works on H910?

Don't need root. You can use patched LG up program to partition DL which would cross flash whole firmware to the h915 Oreo.
It should work fine without root with everything running.

What's the consensus ? Go or No-go?
Any one care to share their experience? How is it? Everything working? Anything broken(other than the Volte that was mentioned earlier)? Any quirks? Upgrades*(better battery life, more fluid performance, etc) ?
I got a notification the other day for the update too on my US996, but I didn't want to mess up a "good thing", haha... or more over, my V20 is running relatively fine on android 7 for now, thought I'd wait and see feedback before I touch the waters...thanks to those brave pioneers out there who fearlessly try out the latest and greatest updates.
Never rooted it.. and kept to stock firmware.
Everything is working so far on Verizon - once I got VoLTE back (see above - and that would be a deal breaker for me - I was prepping to roll it back). For now - I'd say it's a go.. but I'm also already committed.
My advice - you waited this long.. give it another week or two...
My battery is still settling in for Oreo. Once it settles that I should get more battery Screen on Time.
Overall, its an amazing experience.
Chipster0 and YPG70, thanks for the feedback. I suppose I'll wait a little longer before I upgrade, good to hear that everything seems to be positive; a real upgrade, rather than an "upgrade" that messes things up.
Anyone have any ideas why my unlocked US996 isn't getting an update notification? I'm on AT&T network (if that matters). In fact I'm running 99610d. Security patch of Oct. 1 2016. I thought there was a security update more current than that.
I did try LG bridge before Jan 2019 and it didn't report any new security updates. I'm yet to try LG Bridge now that it seems oreo is finally being rolled out on US 996. I was trying to avoid LG Bridge because I want to avoid losing all my settings (which I believe will happen when you go the LG Bridge route).
Thanks
EDIT: I just ran LG Bridge, and it reports back with "your phone is up to date". When I click OK, and the "your phone is up to date" window disappears, I am then presented with what looks like there is indeed a "new version" dating 12.11.2017. However, it states that I must go to the Update Center settings on my phone to do the update. But when I do that, my phone says I'm on the latest...
Ended up online chatting with LG support. Spoke with two of them who were adamant that LG doesn't push OTA firmware's and that it must be through the carrier (despite my phone being the unlocked version). They also said LG Bridge is for Android 6.0 and lower (despite LG bridge being the software specified at the v20 US 996 website). Anyway, with ridiculous statements like that, I knew I wasn't going to get any help from them. I ended up downloading the firmware from the link (thanks!) and using uppercut to flash the downloaded. So I'm happy to report that I am now running Oreo and haven't encountered any issues so far.
Can this be safely installed on US996 UCL?
US99610n current version
1. I could put an "international" / "Debranded" software on my old Sony phones. Does the V20 have that? Or is it only carrier specific software? I would like to get rid of the T-Mobile crap on my H918.
2. I'm assuming if I root and/or unlock the bl in this phone, I have to say goodbye to Oreo and downgrade?
ALSO, if so, would you recommend I do that anyways? I feel 8.0 brought a lot of cool features to the V20.
I've spent a lot of time tying to figure out the answer to #1. Poking around. But not sure if "OEM" means T-Mobile's software on the V20 or LG's generic software. (If that even exists)
I guess my goal is to just get rid of T-Mobile's crap on this phone. I switch to Google Fi.. Wich may have been a mistake, too .. who knows. It's just a cheaper t-mobile on this phone.
Much thanks for the help. This site has helped me de-brand old pre-Android SonyEricsson phones and unlock a bunch of helpful stuff. In great debt to you folks.

You can't flash another variants firmware on an H918 result is instant brick. You can downgrade to 10p and root via the laf exploit and then upgade to oreo with the rooted Oreo zip in the forum and keep root, there are a couple custom stock based rom which has some stuff debloated, if you choose to debloat further be advised that if you remove the wrong thing it breaks stuff in the rom

Thanks! That's exactly what I was wondering.
That clears things up. Thanks.
For H918 there's also the issue of ARB-anti roll back I think. Better search and read up on that.
My note 8 had OneUI pushed to it about a week ago even though I kept refusing not wanting to while I was sleeping. It says my bootloader is v5. This is actually what it says (N950USQU5DSD3). My problem is that when I search for the firmware I'm wanting to downgrade to (the last oreo update possible for this particular phone) on Sammobile I can't find the one for At&t. I see ones for Verizon, sprint, etc. But nothing for at&t, which one am I supposed to use and where can I get it? This is going to be my very first downgrade/upgrade, really my first time doing anything like it on android. And I CAN do this right? There's nothing I should be aware of that makes what I'm trying to do not able to be done is there? The biggest reason I'm asking is because I have very limited tools to work with, I have a little 12" Acer aspire one (no disk drive) running windows 7 home basic, mobile hotspot from my wife's phone(the last software I tried to download and use came from xda out of a thread I found titled, "Stock Oreo N950USQS5CRF6 Odin*files*for AT&T*NOTE*8" it failed halfway through 2 nights ago during the beginning of storm, and the whole time it would only download around 32kbs so it literally to FOREVER! Only for it to fail halfway through. Was I wasting my time or was this in fact the firmware I'm looking for? If not, as I asked before, where could I find it?? Thanks a bunch for any help.

Follow the steps from the above-linked post, and follow them very carefully. I did, and I was able to successfully downgrade from Pie to Oreo on my AT&T NOTE8.
I actually flashed the unlocked firmware, which has zero AT&T bloat. It works just fine for my needs. I don't think AT&T WiFi calling works on this unlocked firmware (I haven't tried - I don't use it).
Caveat emptor: whichever version of Oreo you choose (either the AT&T stock, or the unlocked firmware), we are stuck on the February 2019 Android security patch.
Only Pie gets the latest security patches. As long as you are ok with this, then proceed with the downgrade to Oreo!

I dont know I wish someone could tell me forsure whether it will work or not because now my phone is getting another software update notification so it's getting ready to force another update on me and I doubt after that I will still have bootloader v5.
