What Custom ROM is for me (9.6.1.0) - Xiaomi Redmi 3s ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other

I have just updated my device (redmi 3s) to miui 9.6.1.0 (MALMIFD) Stable offiial
after update....
( I have unlocked bootloader and flash TWRP3.1.1)
Now i want to install custom ROM
I just want to ask, can i install any ROM (For miui 9.6.1.0 ). OR only a few OR no roms are available for me. Because i have heard that downgrading OS is unstable (and i dont know whether i am downgrading or upgrading system) I mean I am confused and afraid that i can brick my phone( and also it is been almost 4 years ago since i used to have been playing with custom ROMs. Please guide
Thanks.

The point of downgrading is with android 8.1 and your device still runs on 6.0
So no issue with it.
Just download and rom and appropriate gapps with it and you are done.
Please post these types of threads in guides and news area from next time.
Peace.

Installing Cynogenmod from 5.1

Hi.
Ever since I received the OTA update for 5.1, I've been experiencing big wakelocks (bam_dmux_wakelock) that are affecting the battery life of my device. After days of googling I've been unable to find the culprit, let alone a solution for this problem. So I'm contemplating installing a stable custom ROM . I've always wanted to try Cynogenmod but I was unsure how to do it and lacked the motivation. I have it now, but I have a simple question that hopefully someone can answer here:
Do I need to be in a specific version of stock Android in order to install a given version of CM? For example, do I need to be in 5.0 in order to install CM12 or can I do it from 5.1? None of the guides I've seen mention this requisite, but I want to be sure.
Thanks in advance

You need the 5.0.X bootloader for CM12. For CM12.1 it depends on the particular ROM you are flashing. Once official CM12.1 comes out I am sure you will need the 5.1 bootloader.
For cm12.1 CAF I flashed the 5.1 radio and boot loader then proceeded to flash BaNkS 12.1CAF with his gapps followed by SuperSU 2.46

new to idol 3 quick question

Hi guys looking at getting the idol 3 5.5 just a couple of questions
Can someone tell me what the different model numbers are as far as I know there are 4 different variants of the idol 3
Also I'm looking to keep to a stock rom based rom which one is best to use or should I just root and stick to the stock rom anyways as all I really want to do is remove system apps I don't use and install viper4android lol
Thanks
Hello,
The problem is with the 5 models (6045I,6045Y,6045O,6045K,6045B they are 99% same, i think the diference is in kernel/radio/dual sim).
so there are lot of custom roms, but the problem is, that they are only builds by fans and not really a developers (except "Unjustified Dev" which is the only one real developer here so far). so they just build the rom and cannot do much about the problems. This ends in many builds (CM, PAC, LEWA... ) all are CM based builds, there are also a lot of kernels,. the problem is nobody really knows what are the diference.
For someone is kernel " x" working for someone not etc.
So thats the reason i am on stock.
I managed to find, that TCL i806 is alcatel idol3 (TCL is the owner company of Alcatel). So i get the stock firmware for i806 and made some mods. Its probably the nearest to stock firmware. The only problem is, that it includes kernel, thats 100% working with 6045Y. You can try to boot it on your own device, but for suer to flash (not boot) TWRP recovery, make full backup and also download the other kernels, so you can swap them in TWRP.
If all things go well we should have android Marshmallow start rolling out in june.

thanks for the reply well ive ordered it and its coming tomorrow its the 6045Y version so am i right in saying i should be able to just install your rom no problem and i dont need to install the different kernel
also what kernel are you using as ill properly use the same one lol
sorry one last question do i unlock my bootloader as well before root ect
thanks again for your help
6045Y is same model as mine. So unlock bootloader and then flash TWRP recovery, make backup, flash my rom. I allready included overclocked ARDE team kernel. If you have some problems (freezes, reboots) then probably your SoC isnt capable of holding the OC, then just launch the kernel adiutor and lower the frquencies.

again thanks for your help carnt wait till tomorrow now
i dont use xposed, but should work without problems (have tried months ago). and also download mobile uphrade q v. 5.0.6 (its also on my google drive). its the alcatel app to get you to stock if something goes wrong. Also in my unlock bootloader thread is a bat file which makes all partition backup of your phone.

Miui 8 on Mi 4C

Hi guys!
I installed yesterday Miui 8 alpha from here: http://en.miui.com/thread-295006-1-1.html
ATTENTION!
This will be locked your bootloader!
I tried the recovery image, but it didnt work. I flashed first stable miui 7 from eu.miui than got I drecly a system update to Miui 8.
Unfortunately it's still based on android 5.1.1.
Here are screenshots.
How is Battery life... SOT? Thank you!
I dont know. I didnt so much used. Now Im back to sMiui. But I think its not beter than sMiui.
I use xiaomi.eu version which doesn't lock bootloader. Everything works well...somewhat. Back camera got downgraded features (only 720p max?), front camera can still record 1080p. Battery life, SoT and RAM consumption are similar to 6.5.26. I enable the battery saver, though. Plus only some apps are allowed for full background processing. I'm sticking with it, next updates should be better.
I'm using MIUI8 for nearly 24 hours now and I'm quite satisfied. Have not recognized heavy bugs (not even small ones).
The battery life seems to be similar to MIUI7 builds and worse than CM13.1 from TeamSuperluminal, which I used over the past few months.
I've been using first version of MIUI 8 from the first day it came out, on xiaomi.eu and I haven't got any issue what so ever. I find it works well, no bugs on my type of use so far. The thing is I don't find a significant change over Miui7... Do you guys? Generally speaking. There are a few functions on sharing that are diferent but it isnt something you should worrie about to hurry up updating.
My suggestion for everyone is that if you are in Miui7 (whatever stable or dev version) dont feel you are loosing something without having version 8... it is almost an appearance thing only changes. I'm not dev so i dont actually know what changes in the inside code and stuff, just speaking over a consumer and tester view.
If there is some devs who can tell what important changes are made over I would appreciate.
miui 8 6.6.23 beta. full wifi usage

what i feel is xiaomi added new theme to MIUI 7 and brand it as MIUI 8.
Nothing significant, everything same as MIUI 7.
totally agreed, i had some overheating and touch issues btw
I'll wait Miui8 on android MM for Mi4c before installing that...
Hi! Please help me out
I will receive my new Mi 4c with the Bootloader Unlocked from the re seller , Rooted and with Multi language ROM.
Do I have to unlock the bootloader with the official method (which means flashing Cina Dev ROM -to re lock the bootloader- and go on with the Xiaomi's code procedure..) or it is possible to get all things done by choosing an unofficial weekly miui.eu international ROM and install it normally from the Updater app as soon I get my device but also be able to update it every week via Updater without issues?
My problem with flashing is that I don't have my laptop and the one I have now runs win xp.
If your MI4C is rooted you can install Flashify. With Flashify you can flash TWRP. Then you can download any desired rom and install that from TWRP.
No need for a computer.... unless you brick your phone at some point.

First, just see first if you can access to the recovery rebooting with Vol button pushed.
What's your rom version.
Hi! it's been a while since I made this post and I've changed the MI4C with a Mi4... thanks anyway! Best!

What is the reason for the cyanogenmod 13 not working on the newer build numbers?

Is there any method we can change the build number on the cm13 zip file we download to be able to install it on a newer version?
or is there any method for us to build the cyanogenmod 13 rom on our own(since everything is available)? It should help many people. Also if possible I would like to build an aosp rom for our devices. I have another stupid question, please bear with me. Someone has created the cyanogenmod rom for us and it is official, but they did not make any posts in the xda forums .
Im curious about some of this stuff, too. Especially the reason why you can't flash on the newer firmware, and why no CM thread.

Stucked on 9.6.4.0

Hello guys ! I just bought this mix 2s a couple of days ago. Also this is my first experience with MIUI so please if I ask something stupid or retarded just forgive me .
When I took the phone out of the box it updated right away to 9.6.4.0 , but as we all know MIUI 10 is already out there for a while . Still my phone doesn't find any update to MIUI 10.
I saw that I can download the firmware from MIUI website and flash it through the update section three dots etc . But since this is my first experience with MIUI I don't know what to think about this flashing method and if I should wait longer for ota or I'm stuck somehow on this version or if I should update like I mentioned before.
Some advice please ? Cheers !
Updating by downloading firmware and using the updater app is safe but decide whether you want to stay on the stable ROM (which normally gets updated monthly) or the developer (which normally gets updated weekly). The MIUI Developer ROM is more stable and bug free than any "stable" version of Oxygen I ran when I had an OP5 so don't let the developer tag scare you.
I would also strongly recommend doing a complete factory reset after upgrading from MIUI 9 to MIUI 10 or Android Oreo to Pie so you get the best user experience. You might end up with some buggy behavior otherwise and since you just got the phone and aren't familiar with MIUI you might not realize that something isn't working like it should.

Well I would like to thank you from the heart for the complex answer ! I was just wondering why my phone can't find the MIUI 10 update if it's already been out for a while. I'm thinking to wait for the Android Pie stable release before I flash a new rom. MIUI 10 has great new features but I'll just wait for MIUI 10 pie. I have to get used to MIUI anyway so I think that I will enjoy 9 while I still have it. Thank you for you time and quick answer! Cheers mate !

manually update:
download ROM from http://en.miui.com/download-343.html
copy to downloaded_rom folder on phone
select ‘About phone’, click ‘System update’, then press ‘three dots’ icon at the top-right corner, and select ‘choose update package’
