What is the reason for the cyanogenmod 13 not working on the newer build numbers? - HTC One A9

Is there any method we can change the build number on the cm13 zip file we download to be able to install it on a newer version?
or is there any method for us to build the cyanogenmod 13 rom on our own(since everything is available)? It should help many people. Also if possible I would like to build an aosp rom for our devices. I have another stupid question, please bear with me. Someone has created the cyanogenmod rom for us and it is official, but they did not make any posts in the xda forums .

Im curious about some of this stuff, too. Especially the reason why you can't flash on the newer firmware, and why no CM thread.

Cyanogen mod 7.1 with .629?

hi,
i got a warranty replacement d2g with .629 on it. can i install cyanogen 7.1 on it? thanks.
CM 7.1 will not work with .629, as it relies on an older kernel. Not even .608 works with CM 7.1.
This is a blatant lie.
Unofficial CM7 builds work fine with 4.5.x firmware, and they're usually pretty up to date.
well i couldn't get it to install the one time i tried but i have two different answers here i read that beta 9 works which is what i would rather use but i don't want to use it until it's stable.
For unofficial CM7 (currently 7.2, I think), refer to http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3069-dev-threaddroid-2-global-cm7-with-gingerbread-leak-kernel/
Check the last few pages there for most current builds.

He asked for 7.1, I gave a response regarding just the functionality of 7.1.
He didn't ask for information regarding builds after 7.1.
I appreciate the advice. I downloaded Cyanogen mod gb kernal based Pooka-CM4D2we-GB-20120330.zip and it is running fine, hopefully cm9 will be stable soon enough because i want some ics on this phone off topic, i'm a she btw

It is not a question of version number but of origin. ALL official CM 7 builds rely on Moto's Froyo kernel and cannot be installed over newer stock firmwares. But there have been lots of unofficial builds made for Moto's Gingerbread kernel that work just fine with all the newer stock firmwares (4.5.6xx)

[Q] ROMS with GApps?

Hello, I just rooted my Galaxy S3 for Verizon for the first time yesterday, therefore I am fairly new to this. After I flashed CM10 using TWRP, my Google apps are gone. I've tried flashing gapps on TWRP but it gives me a message saying "unfortunately, Google Play has stopped working." I know that this is due to the licensing issues and all, so my question is, what ROMS can I flash that has GApps available in it?
Thanks in advance!

To answer your question, any TW based roms will have Gapps with it. So practically any rom in the Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum would have it. To your issue, are you sure you flashed the right Gapps version? Just as reference you can get any version from here http://goo.im/gapps I assumed you flashed 10.1 version of CM since they are the latest which you should be using the 20130301 version of Gapps following the table that is on that website.
This might be a stupid question, but where can I find this forum? And yes, I did flash that version of Gapps... And correction; I have the 10.0.0-d2vzw version of CM. Am I supposed to get another version of Gapps? I really like this ROM and I want to try it out for a few weeks until I switch to a new one.

Forum section for us is http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1708 Go there and click on Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development forum. If you look at the website link I gave you, they have a table. On the left, it shows the CM versions and on the right shows the corresponding Gapps version you are suppose to use with that CM version. Since you are using 10.0.0, if you look on the left you will see 10.0.x and on the right, you will see the corresponding gapps version 20121011. You use that version for CM 10. Btw if you find CM 10 interesting go to the Verizon Galaxy S III Original Android Development forum. They have roms based on CM, AOSP, AOKP, etc. Be sure to read up more on flashing since you are pretty new to this. Bricking phones isn't fun lol
What ROMS do you personally recommend? And I know! I almost bricked it yesterday, and trust me, it was not fun at all.

Depends on your preference. If you are into the Stock TouchWiz look but without the bloat that verizon puts, I recommend CleanRom. I also recommend it to people who are new to flashing since it is a pretty simple rom. This rom is pretty much as close as you can get to getting stock reliability. If you want to go into a more customize it yourself TouchWiz roms, I would suggest SynergyROM, Jelly 'Beans' Rom, Hyperdrive, or Axis. Besides each having their own tweaks and sometimes themes, during install, you get to choose which apps/settings/kernel/theme, you want to have, so pretty much you get to customize almost all aspects of the rom to your liking. They all also get updated on a somewhat regular basis. You will have to flash all of them and play with them to see which one is to your liking.
For CM 10.1 based roms, CM 10.1 Nightlies, Slimbean, Carbon Rom. I would be careful with these roms, as they are a bit temperamental with some phones. Most of the time you are fine and you won't get into an issue but the times that you do, you will have to read through the threads to see if there is a solution to it.
There are also the PARANOIDANDROID and ParanoidKANGdroid roms, I haven't personally tried them but heard good things, they are also based on CM 10.1
I really appreciate your help, bro. For now, I'll stick to the CM 10.1 ROM that I just flashed. It's good so far, and I finally got t solve my issue of gapps thanks to you.
Great example of helping someone! Posts like this are the reason why I became a member of this site and fell in love with it (actually my wife calls it addiction)! I wish there were more people helping others like this, it would only make this forum better.

Question about custom roms vs CM12S/Oxygen

Hey guys,
Just a quick question that I'm hoping someone can clear up for me. I have been flashing phones since the Vibrant and I seem to recall back then (and other phones I've had after such as the Sensation) devs would use the source of the firmware released from the manufacturer to create more stable roms and until that source was released there would be the possibility of the bugs.
I am coming from a Nexus 5 which I just used the stock rom since I wanted the OTA updates so it's been a while since I've flashed custom roms.
My question is, is the OPO the same way in the sense that in order to have more stable roms the source has to be released by CM in order to be more stable or is this a whole different beast where that isn't a necessity?
Thanks.
CM11S/CM12S is derived from the CM11/CM12 nightlies, all current ROMs are based on those CM sources, so all current ROMs are up to date. If you're flashing CM12 nightlies there's nothing extra that you need to do because firmware and modem is built in, but if you're flashing another custom ROM you need to flash the appropriate firmware and modem before flashing the ROM.
Oxygen is the exception to the above information, in the sense that it isn't based on CM. Flashing Oxygen will automatically flash the appropriate firmware, but if you want to revert back you need to flash the correct firmware/modem first.

Thanks, I did not know that but it does clear some other things up.
One other question, when a Samsung (for example Galaxy S5) rom is leaked, developers will use the latest leak to update their roms but typically a rom won't be "stable" until it is based on the source that is released.
Is the OPO like that as well where the custom roms need to have a source released in order to do that (is this the google android source or CM source?), I guess I'm trying to find out the stability of the roms versus a stock rom and whether there will be more bugs in one or the other.

That's what I answered in my last reply. The CM nightlies are the source, all ROMs are built based on those nightlies (except for a couple). This phone is nothing like a Samsung or an HTC where the stock ROMs are different from the aosp ROMs or CM based ROMs. The stock ROM for this phone is the CM ROM. The stock source is always released, every single day.

Not exactly true. CM is AOSP BASED, but modified - sometimes quite a bit. In the case of CM12S - this is a ROM specific to the OnePlus One. It isn't the same as CM12. It is only for this specific phone, and has some features in it that are specific to this phone.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to install Oxygen OS, unless they have just been brainwashed by OP that CM is now bad. Well that and the fact that CM still hasn't released 12S, nor am I convinced that they ever will. They seem to be pretty terrible when it comes to keeping up with the commercial side of things... Very amateurish.

I know that CM is essentially aosp, and CM11S/CM12S is 99% CM11/CM12, with just a couple of fancy apps thrown in on top to make it seem a bit different. It really is just like a milestone release of the main CM branch, a stable release.
Not Exactly.

Not really. There are no apps of which I am aware that that put in the "S" release. But there are features specific to the needs of that device and to that user community that add value.

CameraNext, the custom lockscreen. Both apps that are unique to Cyanogen OS. I'm sure there are more but I don't run that ROM so I can't check. You can believe it or not, but Cyanogen OS is just CM with a few extra apps/features. Your lack of belief in it doesn't stop it from being true.

Why does the ROM version I'm flashing over matter?

Hi,
I'm referring to, for instance, this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3212636 where it is advised to upgrade to a certain stock ROM before I flash the new ROM.
My impression was that the new ROM overwrites everything, so why would it matter what my old ROM version was?
Can someone please point me in the right direction before I mess around?
Thanks and kind regards,
Esuhi

Well, in newer versions of MIUI has newer kernel sources and device codes that isn't yet available to us... The only one available are the 5.6.11 versions of MIUI code, flashing a rom over newer MIUI versions is highly not recommended as it could lead to bootloops...
that makes complete sense, thanks!
Official web site doesn't seem to offer 5.6.11 anymore, however.
http://en.miui.com/download-263.html
Should I resort to images found on the forums?
Or should I go with a ROM that doesn't mention this issue?
omerjerk for instance doesn't discuss this for CM12.1 stable ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63031048&postcount=3
(OP had wrong link; here's an example of a ROM w/ this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4i/development/rom-resurrection-remix5-5-5-t3196222 )
You can find a mirror for miui 5.6.11 fastboot rom here:

Question on using a custom ROM

Hi all,
First of all, I'm not a developer, so I'd would like to apologise if my posting here is "intrusive". However I have not been able to find an answer to my question and it seems this is the place where I have the best hope of getting it. My question is, once I have updated the tablet with a custom ROM, will I get regular OS updates from Google like I do with my Nexus tablet and phone, or will I have to rely on custom ROMs if I need an OS updates in the future? Many thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Howard
You won't get regular updates from Google. Many custom ROMs are updated by the developer and the updated ROM has to be flashed.

Nope, there will not be any regular update from Google.
However if you decide for one of the KatKiss Roms by Timduru, for instance N 7.1.2 Nougatella, you will get an update frequently that contents the actual Google release.
For example the Nougatella version #24 dated 13th July 2017 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73012269&postcount=1060 contents the June and July release for Android Nougat. So your CR could always be up to date when you install the newest version of it.
