Call Recorder Woes - General Questions and Answers

Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F), Android 4.4.2.
I installed one of the many similar call recorder apps on my phone. It allowed me to save calls to the SD card, which is a feature I rather liked.
I wanted to try a different call recorder, so I uninstalled the one I had as having more than one of these apps on the phone at the same time is apparently not a good idea. Before uninstalling I backed up the app using Super Backup.
The new call recorder I tried wasn't as good, so I uninstalled it and restored the original one using Super Backup. It worked fine, as before.
After doing this a few times, to try out different call recorder apps each time, the original app refused to restore and I got insufficient storage messages. I also tried reinstalling from the Google Play Store, but that didn't work either.
In the meantime I have tried a few more call recorder apps (they installed fine so storage space not a problem), but now, when I select storage to the external SD card, the apps don't record anything. If I switch to the internal storage they work fine.
Obviously something in my phone has changed as a result of the various call recorder installs/uninstalls, but I can't figure out what it is. I've tried restarting, clearing caches, etc., but nothing so far has helped. I'd really like to avoid a factory reset if possible.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

[Q] Restore apps that are still on the phone??

Yesterday my G2x was caught in a reboot cycle and I could do nothing but use a hard reset. I did not wipe any data however. My phone booted up like the day I bought it, but none of my apps are are in the app drawer. After media scanning, gallery found all my pictures and music app found all my music. I used a file explorer and saw that all my app data is still there too. Is there any way I can make android recognize these apps? There is some personally important data in those apps. My device was almost new and unrooted, but I would be willing to root.
Factory resets wipe user data and apps. You will have to reinstall them. Once reinstalled any data they had stored on your sd card should show up. In the future it would benefit you to use a program like titamium backup to keep your apps backed up.

Interesting storage situation; the mysterious "other" category

Here's an interesting scenario/observation. It's annoying. I have no idea what it means. And, I would welcome anyone who can explain it to me. (TIA)
My M8, rooted, S-OFF, stock - was behaving very badly. Boot times were glacial. There were random hangs, and programs closing (mostly gapps stuff) at odd times, even during background tasks. I couldn't update programs in a way that would survive a reboot. Sometimes I wouldn't be allowed to update at all. I checked my memory, and WOW! there was 22Gb in "other". I tried everything short of wiping to free memory. But, I didn't really have much that wasn't going to the ext_sd anyway. I deleted and reinstalled messages+. I deleted and reinstalled email (use 3rd party, not gmail or stock app). I don't use other social media, or blinkfeed. I deleted what little lost.dir was around.
I finally gave up. I ran TB and backed up all of my files, SMS/MMS, and data. I made a nandroid backup with TWRP. I tried several different wipe combos and finally just settled on the factory wipe default, because it didn't make a difference.
I opened TB and put all of my progs back, imported my SMS/MMS, and reset my contacts. My email started back up and looks to be identical to where I left off. Now, my "other" memory is hovering at 12Gb and I have plenty of room. It may be that I have to do this kind of restore every 6 months or so.
Any idea what was bloating my "other"?

Phone has lost it's mind (and some data...)

OK, my HTC M8s (stock ROM, no recent flashing mods) has been playing up lately, seemingly just battery issues.
Today however it rebooted, and it's just lost its sh*t. Apps that were moved to the SD card are now lost/not showing up, my call history is blank (but contacts, photo's and other data are OK), and apps that were seemingly all up to date have suddenly decided they need updating again - these are not new apps either, they're like old HTC apps that were not even in use, and I doubt have all suddenly been updated.
It looks to me like some "cache" or storage area on the phone has been zapped, and reset to like a new phone. But my data seems (mostly) to be there, and apps that I installed (to main memory) are OK too, although their settings seem to have gone too (eg: one banking app is asking to re-verify setup info)
I just re-downloaded an app that was missing, to get it back again. The app installed OK. Upon checking the app settings however, it had located it again on the SD card (I did not do this, it somehow "remembered" where it supposed to be from earlier), but the settings and data of the app were not restored/visible.
Google settings too, like Play Store preferences (don't put apps on home screen) have also been lost and app permissions seem to have also been reset (eg: mail needed me to allow access to this and that again)
Anyone else had this?! Any ways to fix it? Seems very freaky and worrying...

My phone just wiped itself...

Hello,
something bad and very strange happened: My OP6 just wiped itself. My last actions on the phone were:
Used Google Keep to prepare my trip to the supermarket
Turned on some music
Noticed that V4A was not active (happens sometimes) so I rebooted
Turned on music again, V4A activated
I arrived at the store and wanted to switch to Keep but noticed that my app switcher is not working (it said no recent apps)
I thought 'strange bug but whatever let's open Keep via the normal launcher icon'
and then BAAM it asked for my google account, and the app crashed
Since I have a very bad memory and relied on my created list, I rebooted my phone once again and suddenly (almost) everything was reset... my launcher, Whatsapp, PowerAmp, Youtube Music basically everything but my system settings and system apps (including Magisk Modules). WTF?!?!
I quickly checked my SD card via a file explorer... all my movies, downloads, mp3 music, Titanium Backups erased :crying:
Now, instead of enjoying my Friday evening, I am sitting here and trying to restore my phone, music and so on.
Luckily, I mostly use cloud backups except for my movies and music (and my most recent Titanium Backups..)
Has anything like that ever happened to you?
By the way, I have another user on this phone and apparently this account wasn't wiped.. very strange...
I use and root my phones since the Galaxy S1 and anything like this has never happened before... I regret that I don't have an external SD card now

Unfortunately you seem to be rooted/custom rommed. Post for the dev to see I guess but seems like a perfect storm screwed you up
Yeah I use the stock rom with root but without TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/oneplus-6-magisk-root-oos-5-1-5-t3794440
I will try to contact the dev, but it could have been any app with root rights so it will be even harder to determine the cause.
same thing happened to me stock 5.1.9, my storage just had about 20 directorys with random numbers and letters.
all gone, got into a boot loop and had to use the unbrick tool!
Do you have fsync disabled? this can corrupt your data..
Mine did something like this a couple of days ago - was working fine and when I turned on the screen it asked which launcher I want to use. All installed apps were gone and acted like a new phone (no text messages, phone history was blank, no contacts).
After a reboot it went back to normal....
I'm running 5.19 rooted with custom recover and stock kernel.

Wot mate?

Sim not recognized, incallui.apk crashes when trying to make a call.

Hey guys,
I have a BLN-L21 (L21C431B367 to be more precise) rooted with some xposed mods. Anyways...
I was playing with some Tasker features, specifically with Whatstasker plugin (a plugin that gives Whatsapp the ability to autoreply, etc.) and Whatsapp started to crash. So I uninstalled the plugin, still the same problem, I uninstalled Tasker, nothing... Then I noticed that the SMS app was also crashing, I tried to install different apps and all of them were crashing. Even FB Messenger was crashing when trying to send an SMS through it. And the Dialer app was also crashing.
I tried several times to reboot the phone. I wiped dalvik/cache on TWRP recovery. Now I noticed that my sim card is not being recognized, but I can't use mobile data nor make calls, even emergency calls. The apps aren't crashing anymore, but when I try to make a call (through different Dialer/Phone apps) the InCallUI.apk appears for less than a second and nothing is done. I tried to reinstall the app in /system/priv-app/InCallUI but nope.
If someone can help me solve this without having to reinstall the whole firmware I would be really really grateful!
Thanks in advance! XDA is the best!
