Exynos varient on AT&T - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Any major problems with Exynos version?
It's much cheaper than the US versions by hundred bucks.
My note 4 is dying and wakelock is the only thing saving it for now.

Galaxy S8+ SM-G9550 - Any issues with updates or Google Play? Is 6gb ram worth it?

Looking to upgrade from my OnePlus One. Currently considering the Note 8 or an S8+ (although wanting to wait and see what happens with the Pixel XL 2, Mi Mix 2, and maybe even the iPhone 8 (or X, whatever it'll be called)).
I played with the Note 8 in a shop and it was fine, but as I'd like to save some cash am considering the 128gb/6gb ram version of the S8+. Note 8 is about $1600 NZ (although most pre-orders come with an 128gb or 256gb microSD card, wireless charger and sometimes additional things like a speaker or powerbank) where as I can find an S8+ 128gb/6gb version for $1144. My understanding is that the G9550 is either a China or Hong Kong version. Does that mean any issues with using Google apps or getting Google Play going? Would that also mean any issues with future OS updates?
Or should I pay even less and just go for a regular S8+ for around $1000 NZ? I'm a pretty basic phone user nowadays. Gmail, Google Maps, Chrome, Spotify , social apps and running the DJI Go 4 app for my Mavic.
Cheers for the feedback.

I have zero complaints with my S8+ 4GB Snapdragon version. 4GB is enough to make the phone fast. The Note 8 being a grand is absurd to me.
6Gb is amazing when you use many apps simultaneously. It's smooth and quick.
Have used S8 and 4gb isn't bad but 6gb is amazing.
If your not going to root the phone, so far I think the G9550 is the best model. Dual Sim, 128gb storage, 6gb ram, more coverage on cell bands than all the others it seems. I have travelled all over US and EU and with my US T-Mobile account I have internet everywhere. Even in the US I have better coverage than I had with my US based Samsung S7 which I attribute to the large list of supported radio bands.
I am not a pro at this, so I am open to someone correcting any of my assumptions.

Note 10 plus vs Note 10 plus 5g comparison, specifically on battery life

Hi all,
I am waffling on the Note 10 plus vs the Note 10 plus 5g vs the S10 5g. I am not seeing much to differentiate them (an FM radio here, headphone there). One of my biggest drivers (now that dex is on all) is on battery life.
My carrier charges the same rate for both the Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G. As 5G service isn't widely available yet, i more or less discount the 5g-ability. As I expect to hold the phone for 2 years, there is some hope that will change but I don't find it a strong differentiator.
Does anybody know whether I should expect extra battery drain from the 5g chipset? If the battery life will be lower at all on the 5G, i will prefer the 4g only version.
Anyway, happy for anybody's thoughts on whether there is any battery drain expected from the 5g radio (or anything that would make you prefer one or the other of the major samsung phones right now).
Thanks

is it worth to upgrade from note 10 plus with 12 gb ram for note 20 ultra 8 gb ram?

I feel it is downgrade more than upgrade
Weird how some regions it’s 8GB of ram. 12GB here.
Is ram that big of a deal? Isn’t 8GB enough?

How much ram do you have in Germany ?
Exynos 12gb/256gb for Europe or 12gb/512gb with support dual sim
Think we have the 8gb ram Version... But battery life is **** with the exynos also throttling so much. We have hot weather in germany now and my friends s20+ is running hot without gaming... He tried factory reset and swapping the device nothing helps.
Are you sure you're not looking at the regular Note 20? The Note 20 Ultra in the US and Europe shows 12 GB RAM.
Yes , it is note 20 ultrs
LTE models of Note 20 Ultra comes with 8gb ram only , it is available in regions that don't sell 5g models like Egypt
Where have you seen the Note 20 Ultra with only 8Gb RAM? I think you have misread this somewhere!
Only the Regular Note 20 has 8Gb.
Would be interesting if you could show a link to what you've found.
EDIT: Ah you are in Egypt. That still sucks, I hope you get it cheaper though?

Samsung sell it in Egypt for about 1320 $ 256 8gb ram
This really irritates me. Bad enough that it’s not snapdragon. But knocking off 4gb too. And no 5G. Yet the same price
E9825 12/256 to SD865+ 12/256 is just fine for me lol
Honestly if I had the Note 10 + I would not be upgrading. Its just not enough of a leap in my opinion. Especially so with the hampered device in your area.

Yeah, if you look on Samsung's site at the Spec Sheet, the Ultra 5G models have 12GB, but Ultra LTE Models only have 8GB. Not sure why, but it's there on their site. Well, ONLY the Ultra 5G models have 12GB, the rest are stuck at 8.
Thankfully, I'm getting a 12GB version.

I played with the N20 Ultra and I can't see a reason to upgrade. Even the 120hz comes on when it wants and you cant use the highest resolution with the 120hz. I will wait until next year when they get the bugs out. And whatever you do.. DON'T BUY THE NOTE 20. Doesn't make sense to spend $1000 on 1080 screen with no SD card..just a waste.

Should I go for the Exynos?

In my country the phone has been released but only the Exynos variant. I don't think the Snapdragon version will arrive, and if it does it will be at least 35% more expensive.
The most important thing for me in a phone is battery life. I currently have the Note 9 Exynos version.
So my question is... Should I go and get this phone even if it is Exynos, considering Snapdragon might never arrive?
Thanks!!
get snap ..

All things being equal, I would say go for the Snapdragon model - but in your case, they are not equal. If the Snapdragon would be 35% more expensive, and might not even arrive, don't even consider it - don't forget, you also won't have warranty and repair coverage for an imported Snapdragon model. While the Snapdragon does appear to have the edge on the Exynos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmvfzDTywt4), it is not so great as to justify that kind of extra expense and risk as in your case. Finally, if battery life if the most important thing for you, this might not be the phone for you - as some of both Snapdragon and Exynos users have reported mediocre battery life (although reports vary widely) even if the Snapdragon has a slight edge here as well.

Honestly, I have owned the note 8, 9 and 10 and now 20 all exynos models. Purposely chose them over the Snapdragon for root. They've all been fantastic, smooth, fast and zero complaints. If you used an exynos and snap, side by side, you wouldn't notice any difference. If you're a hardcore gamer and want the absolute highest performance, then get the Snapdragon. Otherwise the exynos is pretty solid. I have the N986B 12gb variant. Very happy with it. Same battery life as previous notes.

If you're worrying about battery life stay away from Exynos, worst battery life ever on the Note 20 Ultra, the phone get warm easily even with daily simple tasks (not gaming or stressing apps). There are quite a lot youtube videos about this better to watch them before buying the Exynos

Why is warmth or heat such a problem? Who cares.

Well I have decided I will go for the Exynos version and if happens that the Snapdragon appears to be available I'll buy it and sell the Exynos haha. Thnk you all for the replies!
I'm importing the N20 Ultra Snapdragon to the UK using Wonda mobile.
They pay import fees.
They apply a 12 month warranty to the phone.
If the phone has to be sent back for a reason they cover shipping.
The Exynos version is fine. Not as good as Snapdragon but still plenty good enough.

Battery on the Snap is also poor. These devices need a bigger fuel tank. Basically they should have just put a much larger battery in.
Almost 7 hours sot isn't poor, but it is pretty disappointing for such an expensive phone. Feel they should have made the whole phone as deep as the camera bump and just crammed another 1000mah in there. If I was concerned with the size of my phone I wouldn't have bought a Note, that's for sure.
Snapdragon UK
If i import a snapdragon version to UK. Will it work flawlessly on UK 4G and 5G providers?
I have a sneeky suspicion that Snapdragon version might not have all the bands for optimised 4G and 5G usage?
I am not sure if certain GSM bands are removed for out of UK variants.
Can't find this information anywhere ? or I am not looking hard enough.
In Snap. it's not upto the mark possibly due to the overclocked cores(865+) and in Exynos it's even worse due to the 990's known inefficient cores. The much hyped VRR isn't doing much help as it's hardly at play with the firmwares installed available till date and both Snap. & Exy. versions are disappointing when it comes to batterylife. Nobody likes to carry batterypacks. Batterylife is a major concern and Samsung should have definitely packed a bigger battery.

Lol. I ordered the Exynos version. Felt like few £100 was not worth it to get the Snapdragon version. Comments are reviews feel inconsistent. Snapdragon is quicker but again day to day useage not going to feel massive difference. Don't plan on gaming hard-core on phone. Battery life comments are inconsistent as well

A good choice. You're right that the differences aren't as great as some would make them out to be, plus you'll have local warranty and service coverage (although some say Wondamobile's warranty and service on imported models is excellent). I am importing a Snapdragon model primarily because I want dual-SIM and, given the choice, I'll take the Snapdragon.
Oh some Exynos regions don't get dual sim? Interesting. Mine has them.

My region (Canada) is actually a Snapdragon region - but we only get single-SIM, and the base model Ultra only has 128GB storage. To get a dual-SIM model, I have to buy an imported phone - and the HK model is Snapdragon, dual-SIM, and 256GB storage - so I chose that over the Exynos.
I've imported a Snapdragon N20 Ultra via Wonda Mobile and it was £100 cheaper than the Exynos version I bought from Samsung UK which I'vereturned.
Wonda also pay any import fee's and yes apply a 12 month warranty.
I have no issues using an o2 sim card in it and signal is good too. I've spoken to people who have used Vodafone Uk and EE sims in and they can use Samsung Pay, voLTE and calling over Wi-Fi too.
I went with Snapdragon because Exynos is an inferior chip but it's down to personal choice.
As for battery mine is still learning and I've applied what I usually do to save battery and optimise it.
I'm on o2 Payg so 5G isn't available but even if it were as 5G doesn't bring much in the way of normal surfing I'm not bothered for it and it cains the battery.
I've read on here that a person can get 5G working in sim slot 2 by changing the csc but that's not for me.
It's about time Samsung went with Snapdragon and ironed out the reasons why they don't or bring the Exynos chipset up to the same quality as the Snapdragon.
I bought the phone through eBay so saved costs. It was about 200/300 cheaper. I do agree Exynos is inferior and Samsung should be providing the same spec for everyone. But than again we as customers who want a phone with Stylus are kinda stuck so have to go with Samsung. If somone made a phone with high specs would definitely move. Will be interesting when Samsungs 2021/2022 new platform m6 releases. If it can close that miniture gap inbetween snapdragon and exynos.

Question Preordering S22 Ultra for this pricepoint (200-250€ off retail price), is it worth it?

My carrier just messaged me about their offer for all new Galaxy S22 models with 200€ off from the retail price for S22/S22+ and 250€ off for the S22 Ultra + free Galaxy Buds Pros. With this the S22 Ultra 128GB 5G model would be 1049€, 256GB 5G model 1149€ and the 512GB 5G model 1249€ (all of these are available for interest free payments up to 3 years and the phones are not being bootloader/carrier locked). Is this actually a good offer or should I pass it given that I live in the EU and the model I would get is going to be Exynos 2200 device anyway (which is most likely going to be not as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant)?
Hard to say with zero user feedback. Samsung has been having issues with many of their variable rate displays as are most of the manufacturers using this technology.
Right off the get there's no SD card so you better get the 512gb variant. The spen is in an awkward side unless you're a lefty.
You might want the larger Plus size if you want screen real estate to play with.
The Snapdragon question and what the heat sink differences might be if any will be only fully answered in the future.
Samsung should have another flagship release this fall. Personally the S22U isn't giving me any tangible incentives to own it over my N10+'s. Not even a wash; the tradeoffs outweigh the benefits for me.
The N20U was a close and tougher call to make.
2023 may be a better year to buy. I'm pacing it for 2023-2024 if I like what I see.
Both the N10+ and the N20U can be had at good prices. Used and new ones are available but be careful if you do as there's a lot of scamming is going on. The N10+ is still a great phone and both these Notes support up to 1tb of V30 rated storage. The new N10+'s come loaded with 10, the N20U's likely 11. I'm not concerned with updates but if you are factor that in; the N10+'s limit is Android 12, the N20U's is 13 maybe 14(?) I think.

I would say it depends on which device you come from.. If you currently have a Note 20 Ultra or S21 Ultra, I would wait a bit before committing. Last year I actually went from Note 20 Ultra to S21 Ultra (I know, stupid), and I regretted it at first but then loved it. If you are coming from an older device, then yeah go for it.
