Just order my OnePlus 6. While I'm pretty familiar with phones, I have never messed with something to this extent with having to mess with apn. So. Going to be running straight talk on TMobile towers. Can anyone give me advice or point me.into the right direction getting this set up? I've searched here, Google, YouTube and can't really find straight forward answers.
Maybe you can straight talk to the customer service for help on this?

I use straight talk on AT&T towers and all I had to do was change the mvno setting to none. It got the rest of my APN right.
All u have to do is plug in your Sim card and all is good.

I was under the impression things were more involved like messing with apn and other settings. Guess I'll see when I get it in.

My last three phones (Axon 7, Razer phone, OnePlus 6) all read the Sim card and set it up automatically. The OnePlus 6 for some reason adds a value for mvno type, but once I set it back to none everything worked.

Hey guys. This should be a relatively easy one for some of the people here I think.
I recently bought a Verizon GS3, the i535. I'm in Canada, and was unaware this phone did not access the 3g/4g/lte bands here.
Quick question: I have my phone rooted and I'm looking at installing custom roms. I've been lead to believe some roms can unlock the bands that I need on this phone. Is this true?
I have obviously tried searching but the results always come up with EVERYTHING lol. I would just like a clear decisive answer, from someone who has possibly done it?
Ok so maybe it's not an easy one? ...
btw there are way too many image verifications on this forum, holy moly lol

A rom will not change any of those settings, the best you're going to get is probably edge data, but 3g is possible under some circumstances.
Are you on Verizon's network? If not you're going to have to change the apn to get it to work on your carrier.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
No I'm not with Verizon. I'm not even in the US lol.
I bought a phone stupidly and believe I am now paying for it. The phone technically has all the bands and settings. You can do the #*2263# thing and get into options to select / "force" them...but they just dont take or something?
I only have edge connectivity right now, you are correct.
This whole APN thing is very confusing or I'm very stupid. I"ve entered my carrier, Fido's APN settings and it does nothing because the phone isnt using the correct bands.
The Verizon phone is technically an international, or global phone whatever you wanna call it. in the hidden menus of the phone there is a place where you can manually select the CMDA, GSM and LTE frequencies.
Does this not mean that the phone -has- these frequencies and that its just something Verizon has done to keep the phone on THEIR network?

Theoretically it should be able to work, but the development for that feature never took off and all the bands weren't unlocked for all carriers. But changing your apn might enable a band you need for your specific carrier to give you 3g data.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809314
This might work, and the simplified method might open a band that you need.
Edit: and yes, locking down other bands is Verizon's way of keeping it on their carrier. You can pay them a hefty fee to unlock the band you need if you're traveling, but this isn't really an option for you. There's a bounty thread trying to unlock these bands in the general section, but it's pretty much dead nowadays because most of the devs capable of figuring it out are on newer phones.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I have found both of these threads mentioned. The bounty thread was very interesting, but unfortunately came to an end.
Every other option I've read is installing 16 apps, 1000 people saying "how do i do this??", and one guy saying "i did it"
I think i'm just going to sell this thing...

Haha, yes basically that's what that entire thread says, but the basis of it is converting an apn manager to a system app. That will allow you to make an apn stick, which should force enable the bands you weren't able to get working in the first place.
Selling the phone isn't a bad idea either, then you can do a little more research and find something that might give you 4G signal. There's no way you're getting anything that good with this phone.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Well when you say that you make it seem so easy LOL. I've had the same blackberry for four years and just 3 days ago bought this S3. I had no idea companies would still be doing this locking bands nonsense. If I do sell the phone, anyone I sell it to will just be in the same boat I am right now... and theres no way I can sell this things to an American for what I paid for it.
Sigh

Another thing that is very confusing to me is a lot of people are posting that they need APN manager to be able to edit APN settings. My phone allowed me to do that out of the box, and like I mentioned, I was able to add my carriers APN stuff, but only get 2G speed.

Somebody will take it, if it's brand new then $400 isn't unreasonable. You'd do better with the i9300 model.
Any phone tied into a carrier is going to have issues like that, but I'd look into either getting the international versions of phones, or possibly a nexus 5 if it works on your carrier. That phone looks pretty amazing.
Again, trying those settings wouldn't hurt anything and might give you what you're looking for, post 108 has the simplified procedure in only like 5 steps.

I found that post, and read a few following pages and there didnt seem to be any input. Its almost like no one saw his post. I did go into my phone, and all of those settings are there. The GS3 they dole out up here is the i747.
This things could go for upwards of $400 in the states? I only paid 315 up here, and it had all the protective stickers and nothings been opened lol.
Well I bricked the phone playing around with it...
Installed CWM for some reason, cant remember why. First thing I click was backup current rom, phone rebooted and now says software not authorized by verizon. I hope some of you more mentally capable folk out there find some comedy in my errors, because I have no clue what im doing
Hey guys, so my N5 can't exactly read my sim card properly. It can recognize that a sim card has been inserted but LTE doesn't work. After playing around for a while, I found that if I set my phone to 2g it works temporarily, but 3g and LTE does nothing at all. This isn't exactly a hardware problem because my sim card can still be read. Is there any way to fix this?
did you have a LTE device before on your provider?

#1 Who is your Carrier?
#2 Is your Subscriber Identity Module capable of LTE?
#3 Are you on a prepaid or post paid service?
Most likely problem; Have you paid your bill recently?

It sounds like the APN is just messed up, if you have another carrier Sim handy, I'd give it a try.
I have been looking for other APN configurations for AT&T for you and all of them look the same.

I have not personally played around with it yet, I have read the posts though. You could give it a shot.
It does tweak some settings, such as LTE mode and things. Your N5 may be in some weird mode. You could check and compare with the posts.
hello i just want to start off by saying i have searched everywhere for an answer on this. so i recently got a s4(free upgrade)and i want to let a friend use my s3. they have straight talk so im trying to figure out how to make it work. i tried to call verizon to get an unlock code but they said there was no such code they could give me and referred me to samsung. so all im wondering is how i can get this phone working on straight talks cdma towers. i know the 4g doesnt work but im not worried about it. if i have to root it i also dont mind just please point me in the right direction. i know its possible. it would be cool to be able to put a straight talk rom or something that will make it like the s3 that ST sells. thanks

Unsure about straight talk roms myself but as far as getting the phone to work on straight talk it's not all that complicated. I know you have to go to there website or contact them to get one of there sim cards. I'm looking into moving to straight talk myself soon, I'm tired of the high bills. As far as roms don't quote me on this but I think as long as it's bootloader unlocked you can use almost any rom that's d2lte which is basically a universal rom for all the d2=S3 us versions
And from what I've found on there website they do have 4GLte as they use verizon towers

Well the only sim card i would be able to get would be a $g sim card as CDMA phones don't use reg sim cars and i'm almost positive ST does not offer 4G through their verizon towers. I really just want to find out how to unlock it and activate it. I went on the ST website and they said to enter in the IMEI and then send an activation kit but it says not available in my area code. So im stuck atm.

Hello,
My HTC m8 on verizon was working great with 4G LTE until I traveled and used an alternative SIM. Now I can only use 3G. My brother is on the same account and we swapped sim cards. The phone was still stuck in 3G. My SIM connected to 4G LTE on his iphone. Verizon reset a bunch of stuff on the network side (never really sure quite what they are doing when I call). I checked the APN and tried most of the options without luck. I'm not sure what the settings should be, so that would seem to be a good place to start. Verizon sent me a new SIM, but I'm hesitant to go through the trouble of swapping it since it doesn't seem to be an issue with the SIM.
Anyone have the correct APN settings? Any other suggestions for troubleshooting?
Someone on reddit had the same issues (xda won't let me post links yet). I contacted them, but I haven't heard back.
Best,
Josh

I'm assuming you're running the full stock rom. A factory reset would almost certainly clear it up for you. I know it sucks to set up your phone again but I'll bet it works.

Looks like it was just unported. You will need to call Verizon and Straight Talk to get it sorted out. I don't believe anyone here can help you with this. Good luck.
I don't think you understood my answer. The number was ported 2 years ago and I have used 3 other phones. This only happened after getting straight talk to activate my nano sim and my phone

I did understand, but it seems like Verizon has your phone number for some reason. I'm actually hoping you didn't lose it in the activation window and now Verizon has given it to someone else. You really need to find another phone and call them, both ST and VZW as soon as you can.
All we did was swap my old phone that was on st to another, why would Verizon get it back? I really don't care if I have to change phone numbers but my thought is that they have 5 seconds to take it. But my text work with that never so that's a no too
