My note 4 screen would get super bright when put in direct sunlight and I haven't seen my edge do this. Does anyone know if this feature is on the edge and how to enable it?
Yes mine does it, I always left it on auto
I was at Tmobile today and I was comparing the S6 edge and the S6. Both were on max brightness with adaptive color profile. The edge had more contrast richness than the non edge. How is this possible when they have the same specs? Are they different panels?
I doubt anything is different except the curve. I've had the same phone side by side a few times and they've never looked exactly the same.
I want to get the non edge because I like the feel better in my hand. However, it's bothers me that the edge screen color has more pop in it.
I believe there was actually an in-depth review put up that decided that the Edge's screen actually was mildly superior, though likely not noticeably so to most people.
Actually, I was at T Mobile again today to look at the phones. On second look, the non Edge had a better screen. It was sharper and didn't show some artifacts that I noticed on the edge. However, the edge still has more contrast. At this point I am considering the non edge because sharpness is important.
Specifically, I was focusing on the man's face. The photo doesn't show the significance of what I saw... But oh well here it is anyways
I was surprised to have the following issues with my s7 as I expected software standardization across samsung devices and a comparable screen quality.
On my S5 there is very tiny contrast shift off angle. Have to look for it to be noticeable.
On my S7 there is colour shift (not just contrast shift), white backgrounds turn light blue off angle. (could be fault?)
On my S5 the dialer supports both auto redial for engaged numbers and also toggling of noise surpression, both options missing from the S7.
Performance wise the S7 is defenitly faster than the LG G5 I returned but still feels a bit worse than the S5 in certain places, however will tweak the kernel to see if can improve.
First thing I noticed when I fired up my new S8 was the pink hue along the edges, checked out the adaptive display settings and saw I could reduce the red, but it's still present along the edges, while the rest of the screen became too blue/white. also when you toggle between adaptive display and cinema, photo or basic; the adaptive display looks the worst on the sample picture, the colors are totally blown out, and detail is lost. but on any setting other than adaptive, the screen looks quite reddish. My friend also got an S8 and his has a fainter pinkish tint along the edges, but the whole bottom third of the screen has the pinkish hue.
Onto the camera, Other than having better dynamic range and low light exposure, It's just not as good as the S6 in good light. The S8 seems to have way less fine detail than the S6, pictures of tree leaves and needles look like mud and fine details disappear on the S8, while they look comparatively amazing on the S6, and this isn't because the S6 is over sharpened, it's because the S8 sucks at picking up detail. One more nitpick, the 4:3 camera aspect ratio, even though I do like it, looks silly on this silly long phone, huge black bars on either side, the S6 on the other hand looks much nicer with 16:9 phone and pictures.
Finally onto the colors. which is hard to judge on the phone because the screens colors seem to be off, but the S6 pictures look better on phone. Colors when put on my computer seem to be more accurate on the S8, though the S6 is not bad and its slightly more saturated colors and warmer tones make for very pleasing photos. Overall I would say quality of the photos is down with the S8, which is going against what all pro reviewers have been saying. I can post some comparison pics later, so you can see for yourself the muddy pictures the S8 takes
Everything else on the phone seems good, looks great and is better to hold in the hand with the same case than the S6. Of course there is bixby and other useless samsung crapwear that detracts from the phone as well. I mostly wanted to upgrade because the new phones are waterproof and have expandable storage, my 2 real complaints about the S6. I also was looking forward to slightly better photos, which obviously is not the case. but honestly, I don't think this new phone is any better other than its sleek exterior.
here is a link for pictures, S6 are the 16:9 and S8 are the 4:3 pics. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9qKZKZH22s0RXpqYk1VeTByTHM
Im a S6 user too who has the S8
The Camera - For a storm chaser or nature wide angle shots, the S6 will be better due to 16 MP camera. This also allows that fine detail.
HOWEVER The S8 has more manual options and raw format, so for those of us who work DSLR cameras. We know how to make things awesome. Faster focus time here too.
The red tint you described is an issue with some people. Samsung claims its software related. Check with your carrier on swapping out possibly if you dont want to assume Samsung is right on the software update to fix it.
My only issue with the S8 right now is... no root. So cant transfer from Titaniumbackup to my S8 to make a handoff from one phone to another.
Bixby Vision for the s6 edge working in Touchwiz Home Launcher? Anybody?
My favorite phone by far was the note edge, i got much usage from the edge panel on that phone. My question is it possible to have that style panel on the s8? Im no developer by any means , but isn't it determined by the software and not so much by hardware? i say this because when flashing an AOSP style rom the edge panel was no longer there and the whole screen "bled....bleed?" onto the edge panel (similarly like the v10 top screen). Possible or no?
