New security update - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I just got a new security update

Yep, just checked manually and it's installing now on G930U.

Installing this now, will report back with any noticeable security additions or other features.

Rollback to an earlier security patch

Hey guys so I need to download to an earlier security patch for the nougat version. Will samsumg force me the update to Oreo or newer security patches? If so is it possible to disable the update? I'm going to install one with the February security patches.
In my experience when an OTA comes available you can just ignore it indefinitely, it never forces itself to install, but the message will always be there.

Security patch level

I just updated my old nexus device to july patch.
After that I checked my OP6 and it says may 2018.
OxygenOS version is latest 5.1.8.
Are the security patches provided with the OOS updates (means 1-2 month behind schedule ) or are there extra security patches to flash?

Have you never owned any other phone besides the pixel? Because its normal to have 1-2 months timeframe on security patches. I also think that if you want to have fast updates then you should get the hydrogen OS without google
Dude .. that's wrong information regarding the "Google Play" as you can install Google Play easily and you can remove all the Chinese apps except the "Market App" without rooting.
Note, just go to "Market App" and search for "Google Play" and install it. That's it
Thanks.

Both updates say August security patch?

Hi guys. Aus phone (Optus) using German rom...
Last month I got the security update, 400mb or so. Clearly showed August security patch.
A few days back I got another OTA update, 370mb but security patch still showing as August. Is his a mistake somewhere? I definitely had the July update prior to last months's update. Just seems odd?
No you are seeing correctly, the latest update was a base change and a few other tweaks only.

TMO 10.5.8.IN55CB Update

They are two different updates. I'm not sure what was in the 10.5.8 update since they never added it on the website. The .10 is just the June security patch it seems. You can't get updates from T-Mobile OTA with an unlocked bootloader. You need to d/l them and apply them.
I am currently on 10.5.8 IN55CB. I don't remember all the update notes but I can tell you this is on the April security patch.
Does anyone have the boot.img for 10.5.8?

Question Security updates

The last security update I see is June 1, 2022, which is to install Android 13, which I don't really want. Since there is a a new wifi calling exploit found, is there a way to get the security updates without installing A13 or does Goolge have the deck stacked and I'm essentially forced to upgrade? I live in a rural area and without wifi calling, I have no service.
I think your best bet would be to install a security patch via Magisk if you can find one. Also, maybe a kernel would offer what your looking for?

First of all the exploit was fixed with the latest update a few days ago! The exploit was discovered, fixed and published by Google. That's the usual way a chip manufacturer deals with it and there' no reason why it should be unsecure to use the latest firmware. BTW: No device was attacked.
Security patch level June '22? You want the latest patch level without installing the corresponding firmware? For what purpose? A new security patch = updated firmware and without an updated firmware you don't have any patches. That's it.
Edit: Some background information. Your installed patch level is set in your boot.img. In theory you'll need a patched boot.img with another patch level (unlocked bootloader required => all data gets wiped!). But your device isn't then more secure than before!!
So it's clear in my head, the OS is firmware and the latest security patches rely on the latest OS to function, correct?

Interesting. I installed all the available updates and the is no March update, which I thought was needed to fix the exploit. The most recent update is from Feb 5, 2023. This is a 6A phone.
