Magisk Modules - Moto Z2 Force Themes, Apps, and Mods

Which one are you using? I'm currently using the Pixel Experience with a launcher added and it looks awesome. Seems better than Xposed, which right now I'm using for the Youtubebackgroundplayback.

I am currently using one for Digital Well Being. It is a new thing that tells you how much you are in your device. You can also set timers for apps and stuff to help you take a break from the "Digital Life". It is mainly for Android Pie and only a handful of devices. But I am using Pie on my Motorola Z2 now.

I was using the Pixel Experience, but I was having issue with contacts FC everytime I opened it up.. did not start until that module was installed...

Cloudflaredns, busybox, energized, wifi-bonding.

Blex or Magic charging controller. VoEnabler, debloater, youtube vance, single user mod, and google san MOD font.

XPrivacy Alternative?
Sorry for the dumb question, but I haven't found much with my somewhat weak google-fu. Does anyone know of a Magisk module that works similarly to XPrivacy/XPrivacyLua? I mainly used it for location spoofing, and it did that really well. I've tried Smali, but I must be configuring/patching it wrong because apps never grab the location I've set in a fake GPS app.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe a dumb question, but why not just use magisk xposed module and use xprivacy/xprivacylua?

[Q] Custom KK quick-settings / tiles without root?

Just got my N5 yesterday and I love pretty much everything about it. One tiny thing I miss coming from CM 10.2 on my old phone, is the ability to customize the "tiles" in the notification curtain. You know, when you do a 2-finger pulldown and it shows tiles to toggle wifi, airplane mode, bluetooth, etc... what do you call that anyway? Is there an "official" name for it?
Anyway, a few of my old favorites are missing, and there's no way I can find to change what's there. I'd especially like a "torch" (flashlight) toggle -- I used to use that all the time. I know there are some apps that can install a toggle bar at the top of the notification curtain in older Android versions, but it seems silly to have 2 separate groups of toggles, one on each "side" of the curtain, just because the one that's already there can't be customized, and I don't know how well those play with KitKat anyway.

I just spent a few hours setting up the phone, and it would be nice not to have to do all that over again when I unlock the bootloader (and thus lose all my data...). I guess it's only one evening's setup time, so not *such* a big deal, but the other thing is that I want to keep stock firmware / OTA updates if at all possible.
As fro Xposed, I have some concerns:
* I switched to ART just after getting the phone, because I read it improves battery life (Xposed has no plans to support ART in the near future)
* I've heard that it can have stability issues -- the reason I want OTA / stock is so I can spend as little time futzing with the phone as possible and just *use* it
* Xposed opens up some security issues, IMHO
I think if it comes down to root + xposed or just using a "plain" widget, I'll probably go with the widget.

Correct. For me, the experimental ART feature is not worth losing Xposed for.

You didn't address the setup-time issue -- that's one of the big ones for me. I usually have at least 40 apps installed (and yes, I actually use them!) and reconfiguring them is time consuming. I *could* futz with Titanium Backup or similar to automate some of that re-setup process, but I'd rather just avoid it in the first place if possible.

I guess it's about as "dangerous" as rooting -- basically, Xposed gives modules carte blanche to do absolutely anything on your phone, and since the modules aren't distributed through a controlled / centralized store (like Google Play) and as far as I can tell aren't (always) open-source, I don't have any way to be sure they're not doing something malicious. Of course there's a bunch of other attack vectors, but installing a framework that touches every corner of the device, that then runs scripts / mods that I downloaded from some forum somewhere (no offense, guys!) on a phone that holds sensitive personal data... it just worries me a bit, y'know?

I didn't think it needed addressing? Yes you'll lose everything as we all did. You can backup with Helium to an extent. Maybe even it backs up everything. I have 300+ apps

Xposed modules are still apk's and list permissions as you install them. The same sense applies as installing any apk. Read the permissions, consider the source and either install it or not. The framework doesn't touch every corner of the device. It runs everything in isolation (which is the whole point of it) but yeah that's not really relevant.
All the xposed apps are distributed via XDA, google Play or teh Xposed repo http://repo.xposed.info/module-overview - if something malicious was going on, the module wouldn't exist.
Anyway I'm not here to convince you to install it. There aren't any apps that do it though.
Hi,
Maybe not all will be functional without root but take a look at this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc.
Try these apps to see what you can/can't do with the quick settings without root.
But like it has been said, rooting your device is the best way to have (almost) all what you want.

Do you know if installing a settings bar on the curtain like this will interfere with... what's the term? Extended notifications? Some apps (Pocket Casts is the first that comes to mind) will show media controls (play/pause/skip) in the notification tray, but only if they're the first entry in the list -- if anything comes above them, you can't use the controls. Is that a problem with these apps?
Re,

Yes, TB Backup's fail when I backup 400+ apps and want to restore them altogether. Who would click Next and Install for 400+ times!!! For your point, ADB backup's are slow they really help for Unrooted devices and Guaranteeing safe apk+app-data for sure...

[DISCONTINUED] Turboid 1.13

Now that we've got some Sunshine in our lives, sadly (not really) it is time for Turboid to be retired. We don't need it anymore.
If you would like to set up a rom on your unlocked Turbo that has all the features that Turboid had, upgrade to SU4TL-44, unlock with Sunshine, install TWRP, and flash following:
1. SuperSU: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
2. Busybox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-busybox-v1-23-2-stericson-flashable-t3114476 (NOTE: This is not the latest version, but you need to have busybox flashed before you flash Pon-3. Once you boot the phone, use Busybox Installer by Stericson in the Play Store to update to the latest version).
3. Pon-3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530976
4. Xposed Framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811 (Make sure to flash the correct SDK for the rom that you're running. SDK21 = Lollipop 5.0.X. SDK22 = Lollipop 5.1.X. SDK23 = Marshmallow 6.X. Also, always use the ARM version.)
5. iOS 9.1 emojis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/mod-ios-emojis-android-t3231571
Once all that's flashed, let the phone boot up. Wiping cache and dalvik cache is always a safe bet after flashing anything. Once it boots, do the following:
1. Go back to the Xposed page and install the Installer apk.
2. Get Adaway here: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway (Install using the default settings. No need for redirecting the hosts file anymore.)
3. Better Battery Stats is here if you like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
4. The Turbo 2 command center is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/themes-apps/droid-turbo-2-command-center-root-t3244386
I think that about covers it. Go forth and flash! Thanks for letting me play dev for a few months.
Thanks to:
@computerfreek274 for his excellent roms, his dedication to them and for our SELinux discussion
@JulesJam for her various guides and posts that taught me how to do most of this
@btdownloads7 for answering my question about the HDR bug
@DespairFactor for the iOS 9.1 emoji port
@mrchezco1995 for showing myself and the world how awesome ponies can sound via Pon-3
And at long last, thanks to @jcase and @beaups for kicking Motorola and Verizon in their bootloader-locked balls!
Awesome man. Nice to have some options, even if they are fairly similar. Thanks. :good:

Unlike the other images floating around, I started off with the stock SU3TL-39 system image from the full Verizon firmware. To the best of my knowledge, the other roms are based off of firstEncounter's 5.1 image, which was obtained in a different way. Does this matter? Probably not, but at the time I thought that this might fix the HDR bug, and it did, but probably not for that reason.

There's a SU3TL-39 full firmware? My images were based on the SU3TL-38 and updated to SU3TL-39 by emulating the OTA script.
(Also, HDR works on my images, for whatever it's worth)
Regardless, always glad to see more development for the Turbo!

Yep! You can get it on the motofirmwares website. Yeah, someone confirmed for me the other day that it works on your image now. In the past, I had flashed it and it didn't, but you've updated it since I did that. So I guess HDR working isn't really a feature anymore. I'm working on some gimmicks to make my image a little more relevant though.
Would it be possible for you to allow us to claim space to the area where the Google Search Bar is, when it is hidden? Also, I would like to be able to clear all the open applications without having to swipe them all one at a time. Is that possible?

I'll look into the Google search bar thing. I've never seen my screen without it, so I didn't know that the space wasn't automatically used. As for the clear all recents thing, that is one of the many features of Gravity Box for LP (a well known xposed module). Try that. I'll see if there's a way to bake it into the rom too.
I posted on the other thread about this, but I will say again here, this img is great. Has similar battery life to the other Lp img I was running, despite not having tweaks. I unplugged at 530 am. been kicking butt all day long. I streamed via Bluetooth for 2 hours driving at work, and noticed better 4g signals than I have had yet at my work using this img. There were zero glitches or bugs that I noticed. I am still at 8% battery, atm. I had a crapload of SOT. Look for yourself. amazing img. thank you!!!
p.s. I just noticed I have had max brightness all day as well. lol.
I just realized you removed the corporate email app (after a day or use, haha). Is there a way that I can side load it or something? I love the debloated ROM, but that is one app I need for my college email account.
Also, is it ok to update Moto Actions? You can understand why I ask that!
^^^ I used the Outlook app as a replacement today. Gmail also will allow you to add other email accounts now, so that may be why. As far as requests, my only one may not be reasonable or practical, but it would be a deodexed version of this. Again, awesome work.
Yeah, specifically, I need the exchange piece. I tried the outlook app, but it doesn't handle certain things as well. I also tried installing Google Email 6.5 as well as the Exchange Services apk, but I know I have to be missing something... Actually, probably lots of things! haha.
Also, adaway doesn't work with this build, is that right?

thats cool. honestly, deodexing is removing all of the .odex files from the rom. (located at /system/app , system/priv-app, etc.
the reason i ask about it is it would make theming easier. mind you, without system r/w access, it is a moot point. it may make the theme options available work better though. (LPthemer module comes to mind). CF has said he will not be doing that at any point, so it may be a PITA.

Just turned it off yesterday. What I have noticed with it off is that some apps that had to reload in memory because of MIUI's aggressive ram management now remain open. Battery seems to have increased a great deal. I'll screen shot what I end up with if you want after I leave work. I know its early but I'm at:
4.69% active drain
.67 % Standby
2h21m screen on
10 hrs Standby
77% battery
OFF is recommended if you are using China ROM.
MIUI optimization would block installation of "specific apps" due to you-know-what reasons.
I'm using xiaomi.eu, and when I turned it off it seemed to me the battery life got worse.
The xaomi.eu devs are very vocal about not wanting users to turn it off, because "they don't understand what it does." They won't explain what it actually does though, which makes me suspect they don't know themselves .
Interestingly, I was able to install vanced youtube using magisk (riru+riru edxposed yahfa modules) and edxposed (core patch-disable apk signature verification), without turning MIUI optimizations off. Which some people reported wasn't possible.
At first I tried using the unmentionable yellow app, but that caused a bootloop.

I'm on stable 12.0.8. actually.
It's true that the option to disable them is no longer visible in developer options. But you can do it by entering "setprop persist.sys.miui_optimization false" in shell, either on the phone directly or through adb shell. I do think you need root.
That disables it and shows the option in developer options again, in disabled state. But if you enable them again through developer options, the setting becomes hidden again and you need to perform the shell command again.
I keep it on for one simple reason:
In the latest MIUI12, if you turn off optimization you lose the new floating window feature, it just won't work at all. There might be other cool features that won't work but that's the only one I really use.

Not sure what you mean. AFAIK you need to disable apk signature verification to be able to install a modded (system) app which Google would never allow.
You should download the latest (canary) version of the framework through Edxposed manager, but install it through Magisk manager.
Also, in my setup sometimes it would say Edxposed framework was installed but not active, but it would still function. So I think there's a bug in the detection.

MIUI optimization only prevents installation. Once Vanced (or any other app) is installed, turning it back on doesn't affect them. They work perfectly fine with optimization ON.

Also, the latest way of installing vanced now is using their manager, which is the recommended way that most new users will be using.

I also mentioned I was talking about the poco f2 pro, which is the current forum for this question.
So I answered people who asked a question on this phone's forum.
Your experience with a different phone might differ.
Also, the latest way of installing vanced now is using their manager, which is the recommended way that most new users will be using.

General Post of root mods that are working in Android 13

I going to put in a list of apps or mods I've tested so far on my P7P that are fully working and in daily use.
Please feel free to add yours if you have any but only if you've actually tested them yourself and found no issues to date.
So far I'm running/have run without issue

It allows you to fake details. For example location. So apps that don't work unless you allow them location access think you're somewhere else. But it covers all permissions you can give. This is provided on an app by app basis.

I've been using AdAway for years. I see blockads mentioned here. How is that compared to AdAway? How about other alternatives?

I believe blockADS uses VPN ad blocking instead of systemless hosts like AdAway. I'm a fan of AdAway and still use it.

Thanks for explaining the difference. I would assume the VPN would use more resources and battery?

Yes, but it's negligible. Rootless adblocking and/or firewall can only really be done with a VPN. I strongly recommend Netguard from the same author as Xprivacylua. This combines both a rootless firewall and adblock in one and has a fantastic interface. There is a free and donation version.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to run both on a wifi connection and switch off the VPN blocker when running off of data only to help save a little battery.
I run XPrivacyLua (and Pro) just fine.
Also:
AOSP Mods (lots of customization not available elsewhere)
AdAway
Battery Charge Limit (to limit charging to only between 84-89%)
Lucky Patcher
Solid Explorer (I've preferred SE for years due to dual-screen in landscape mode)
Substratum & Substratum Lite (some themes refuse to work with one or the other)
Swift Backup (best backup since Ti)
For blocking ads, I paid for AdGuard a couple years ago, in conjunction with AdAway and limits set in XPrivacyLua, I see ZERO ads, plus AdGuard works with other platforms too, so I've got it running on a couple of my PCs as well. It's not a root app, but I've never had a battery drain from it. It does show that it's often awake, but that's because it's working - it's not actually taking up battery.

Where is the "official" link to these nowadays? Does this stop Google from spying on us quote so much? I'm very interested seeing as I'll have the oligarchs' phone. I love their product. Too bad they're using it against us!

Can you elaborate? I'm really interested in deciding if the pain of rooting is worth it. I'm still on A10 on my p2xl because I didn't wanna deal with the pain of the big update to a11.

is substratum lite the non-root version? Substratum swift black is something that really urges me to root.

Without installing the app I'm having a hard time seeing what Adguard costs. I don't see the cost listed in the description in play store. Is it a subscription cost or one time fee? What is the cost?

I'd like to confirm a couple of things about this comment. You're running it on a Pro 7, yes? I used this app on my OnePlus 7T for years--and loved it. It never worked on my P6, and doesn't actually limit charging on my P7P. It installs, opens, and runs--but charges past the (80%) limit I set.
Does it actually limit charging on your P7P?

XPrivacyLua is just like the old AppOps application that allows you FULL control over what an app does. Read what it does, I'm sure they can explain it better than I can, suffice it to say that I use it to block google, tiktok and tumblr. I don't use Facebook, Instagram or any other social media on my phone or they would be in that list too.
You can spoof your location, IMEI, MEID, your phone number, etc and even randomize them every time your phone reboots - that way, whatever app you've run through XPrivacyLua is getting garbage info about you. You can't just wontonly shut everything down - things will quit working pretty quickly if you tun off the wrong things, and its all trial and error - but it's easy to back out and fix.

I use it to change things like my battery icon, combine the signal icons, force the 4G icon because it's a little smaller than the LTE icon, change the QS panel, lock screen, etc. There are LOTS of functions that this makes available.

No, the Substratum I have always used asks for root permission. I've found that some themes refuse to install or don't work properly in the regular Substratum so I use Substratum Lite too.

You can't buy AdGuard through the Google Play store, you have to buy it straight from AdGuard. Since it circumvents most of Google's ability to throw ads at you, Google doesn't allow you to just buy it through them.
https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html
I bought the family lifetime license for 9 devices for $170. I tried it out for a few months and then decided this app is good enough to pay for. They do offer monthly subscription for 3 devices for $3/month. I would suggest running a trial on your phone and your computer for a little bit just to see what it can do for you, if you like it, buy it. For me it works wonders, I DETEST ads and with my combination of settings, AdGuard, AdAway and XPrivacyLua, I don't see any at all.
Well, that's not totally true, I see ads in Tumblr, but I haven't really tried to mess with it much as I'm not on it enough to really care about an ad once in a while.

Well, that's a really great question. I only installed it recently and have no experience with the app, so I figured that when it charges to 89% that it says it's 100% full, do you know what I mean? -- I thought that when I set 89, that became the new 100. I see it say "100%" in battery stats but I haven't used a battery app to track what it's actually doing. I just figured that since it's supposed to control the battery control config, that that's what it's doing...
If it hasn't changed any values for the battery, how would I know?

I don't think it's working for you, and it sounds like you're misunderstanding how it works?
On my OnePlus 7T, charging literally stopped when the battery hit (in my case) 80% full. If you wanted to, you could turn off the app (or raise the limit) and it would keep charging to the new setting (or 100% if you so chose).

You're probably right, if I set 89 and it shows 100 at full charge, then it sounds like it's not working.
I didn't know how it worked but I came up with the idea that if I set a number as the top limit, that the new number becomes the new 100%. If that's not how it works, then it's not working.
I have installed aospmods but most of the features do not work.
How can I get it to work?

Question Show network speed in status bar

Hi fellows,
Coming from oneplus, I would like to know if without rooting is it possible to Show network speed in status bar ?
Thanks for your help
Unless you find a custom rom with those options added to build, the only way I know of is root and....this which has many nice add-on options.

@karmoussa I think you may have misunderstood what @kkjb was saying. That module, AOSPMods, inserts the ability to show network speed in the statusbar while still using the stock ROM. I am on the latest stock ROM from Google on my Cheetah (Pixel 7 Pro) device, and I can confirm that the module will add that functionality. You have to enable the functionality via the AOSPMods app that the module installs automatically.
I had actually never heard of that module before, and am now utterly delighted. So many of my most annoying issues are solved with this. Especially the ability to easily toggle the gesture pill on or off. Thanks @kkjb for that info. Do you have any other recommendations in general for magisk/xposed modules or other mods?

I would presume they mean they must stay completely stock, as is, with no unlocked bootloader, and no root. AOSP Mods requires root.
Was pointing out options to look at from previous posters questions on other modules.
