Hello all,
I've got the wwe dual sim version. Using only 1 SIM slot, and using a MicroSD in SIM 2 slot.
Could I turn off the SIM2 functions / SIM1 indicators? I mean to desappear the little sim pictogram with number 1 in messages, call history, the signal indicator in status bar, and some other places in the UI...
Thanks

A workaround would be flashing a custom Rom when available.....
Other option would be editing the build.prop with root to make it a single sim

I agree with this, I'm in the same situation. I'm patently waiting for the Maximus HD rom ( @LlabTooFeR (how's your fund raising going ? ) to show up, then we'll have the ability to flash it as single sim. It was the same story with the U11.
Had to live with the useless second sim slot on my former beloved U11+ because of the total lack of support from the devs, thanks to hTC...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it was the same with the U11, but there was ViperU, what solves it (and many other things ).
ViperU, I miss U :crying:
I did not planned to open the bootloader in this device, but who knows what will be in the future...
anyway, thanks for the replies, i'll looking at other ROMs, like Maximus, or Leo, or other...

Its the difference in the region. Each region has its own devs customizing the EMUI as per their guidelines, carriers, environment.
I think you missed this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/themes/frd-l04-vs-frd-l09-t3456570
Regarding Nougat, Beta is going on. Once it gets stable you will get the update via OTA.
If you are Ok with some bugs in Beta then you can update it as mentioned in the link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/sympathic-to-upgrade-to-nougat-t3510275

I saw that thread but every person says something else about versions, one say that is double sim, another say that is single sim and stuff like that. But if i'm going to buy it from Italy, the 32gb it will be the L09 ?
If i'm doing that thing to update to Android Nougat will affect my warranty ? Thanks for answers ! xD

Yes, It also depends upon the SIM slots and internal memory. 32GB is L-09.
unless you ROOT, it won't affect your warranty.
My suggestion for you is to enjoy the EMUI 4 once you get the mobile. Then switch to EMUI 5 once you have good usability about the EMUI 4 and used to it.
So that you can feel the improvement in EMUI 5.
In GSM Arena, they say Honor 8 has a hybrid slot. You can use the second slot for either sim 2 or SD card.

Yes it has. But there is some software restriction in the Single Sim model in such a way that SIM in 2nd slot cannot be recognized.
And seems that only 3GB variants has single SIM model not the 4GB versions.

Am pretty sure 3 Sims will be never implemented .
There were many technical issues behind this 3 sim throw .
Just like a 3rd slot require more power to run ,modem consume more battery .. Much radiation than before .. Sim and network conflicts which will effect calls on other sims !

Is this kind of hack possible on Honor 8 like other hybrid dual sim phone like redmi note or 7 Edge?
I did it and it worked, but be aware that you can destroy your phone.
There is several clips on YouTube that show how to remove the plastic from your simcard that you place upon the sdcard.
It is risky can jam the tray

I couldn't get it to work. Tried two sims, neither were recognized and with the second one the tray jammed pretty badly and barely could get it out.
Luckily it didn't do any permanent damage.

All you do cut the sim off the simcard and stick it to the sd card
Seen on YouTube how to do it, but not asking that.
Asking to see a good result that works, so I know the quality of finish I need to get for it to fit.
Dont have the video link I did use.
But i didint cut it, did warm the simcard and pulled the plastic away..
Thats all I got.

Only one try, no trial, going to make it perfect.. Thanks for respond
Hi everyone!
I did it and it worked ( see screenshot). I have now 2 sim cards + 64 gb micro SD, so it's not software related (running stock Android M).
Be very careful. Maybe I just got lucky. Don't try it if you need your sim card, make a backup of the micro SD as well. You can practice on an old sim card and old micro SD before doing it on your own sim card.
Sorry for the double post but I want to add this picture of my finished setup :
I removed the sim chip by using a lighter to make the plastic soft ( not more than a few seconds to not burn the chip) then I had to cut the sim chip with scissors in order for it to fit on the sim tray ( See picture). I glued the chip under the micro SD card (I used super glue but it's not removable, so use something else) at the exact right position ( use another sim to see, and pay attention to the direction).
Sorry for my bad English, I'm French.

Sorry bud, but you failed to mention what Honor 8 model you owned. This might become a problem for some new Honor 8 owners since the only Honor 8 devices with full dual-sim active are the European and the Chinese versions. USA versions (FRD-L04 and FRD-L14) do not support full dual-sim active. Please be more specific in your OP. Thanks.

So my questioning is:
Is it possible to change the firmware from the FRD-L04 to the European firmware? I have the USA version and I would like to get the second SIM active.
Regards.
There's a thread on that (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/dual-sim-manager-model-frd-l04-t3461671). Based on that, the FRD-L04 model is missing the IMEI for the second SIM slot (as to be expected, since there's no point for Honor to reserve and register an IMEI that is never used). So most likely not possible. (This is based on what I read, I have no way to try anything since I own the European dual-SIM version).
No point installing European firmware as it will not able a second Sim..
US Honor 8 do not support 2 sims..

Would like this too.. but how did they do it on Mate 8, was it default like this or a mod?
I just tried this on my Mate 9 Pro, the SIM2 is 3G and SIM1 is 4G, make phone call on SIM2, but then data on SIM1 is not possible.. I thought maybe SIM2 would need to be connected on 2G only for it to allow 3G/4G data on SIM1, but we cannot use 2G on our phones here (they turned off the network) so cannot test at all..

Mate 8 was originally stock DSFA (dual sim full active 2 party conversation at the same time )
Mate 9 is originally DSSB (Dual sim stand by only 1 party conversations every time)
It's impossible to make a phone full active if it was not originally stock or if there isn't exactly the same model (deferent version) that handle it...

Long story short: I gave the phone I already updated to Pie to my girlfriend and kept my other X4 on 8.0 just to see what would happen.

Spain.
Understood.
Got it yesterday in Sweden. I got feedback that the microphone audio is low anyone else experienced that ?
The most problematic thing is the dialer:
If you use a DUAL SIM option, and you would like to make a call the dialer always ask to select the SIM card for the call, there is no chance to promote or set the default SIM CARD for the desired number. I have more than 500 contact, I tried with several numbers only 1 person on my contact list where the dialer give opportinity to set the default CALLING SIM CARD for the number.
This is a piece of sh.t... I tried to figured out what is the differece for this one number... I have NO idea..

No. Microphone audio seems fine here. Basically there's VERY little difference between this and 8.0 for me besides the horizontal recent apps and some other UI things. I'm sure once I start optimizing my app for Pie there are bigger changes at the programming level.

I'm assuming this is the model with THREE slots for two sims AND an SD card slot? Mine just has the option for either two sims OR one sim and one SD card.
The biggest problem for me has been with the browser. A LOT of sites I frequent (such as this one) aren't working right. For example I can't even LOAD yahoo.com
I also don't like how Do Not Disturb works now. You used to be able to hold volume down to enter do not disturb and volume up to get out of it. Now you have to touch the screen. That's a pretty big step backwards. (Especially when you're in a situation where you actually NEED DND and you don't have your whole hand free and aren't in a position to LOOK at the screen.)
Don't know WHY they did that. It was working just fine.
Other than that... there doesn't seem to be any large external differences between Oreo and Pie.
I'm going to be curious to see what kind of internal differences I get to play with as a programmer on my app.
In Hungary also I got it. The only audio problem remains the same (from the first time). For the first 0.5sec audio volume is low - even if it set to max.
The other problem that the contact names disappeared after a while, seems to be solved.
Which is annoying: volume rockers are changing NOT ringer volume but media volume, which is stupid.

And must be done every time you restart the device (something is better than nothing)
1- go disable mobile data
2- go dial *#*#4636#*#*
3- choose the phone information
4- go down to ( Set Preferred Network Type )
5- choose [NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDMA]
6- the go enable mobile data the 5g will be activate
remember must be done every time you restart the device (something is better than nothing)
good luck and take care
How do you know if you have the "r15" sim? I'm on T-Mobile and I just used the sim card that the phone came with.

This procedure "did" make it look like 5G was now an option...but I don't think it actually turned on the 5G because everything else still came up as LTE. I think this procedure is just turning on the visible setting without really doing anything. My $0.02

Try this. You can manually set to 5g
*#*#866#*#*
^ this works if engineer_config is changed to:
encrypt_app=false
encrypt_adb=false
Locate in root shell with modded recovery. Adb pull. Copy to SD card, then pc, modify--> /Mnt/vendor/persist/engineermode/engineermode_config --change bools to false, adb shell, go to directory, rm -rf config file that is there, push your modified one there, reboot then try 866
Or the generic version with less functionality *#*#4636#*#*
With great power comes great risk of wrecking it

I'm sorry but these instructions might as well be written in Klingon. I can understand the words, but the meaning escapes me.

There are two videos to show you how to do it but none of them are in English
So try your best to keep up with one of them
Arabic :
France :
Good luck
OK, I will watch the one I have not seen yet...maybe I can deduce what is going on.
Can anybody explain to me why we have to even do this?
I bought a 5G phone and 5G is not turned on?
I have complained to OnePlus but hey...I think they only understand Klingon...so you know I might as well complain to my Poodle.
OOOOkkkaaaaayyyyyy...so here is my report...
I had to use both videos, but the one in what I believe was Arabic was way too fast to follow, not to mention it was in Arabic with no subtitles. The French version was recorded a little slower and it did have subtitles. I employed YouTube's subtitle translation service and it was like having a 3 year old explain highly technical procedures. UUGGGHHHH!!!!
However, thanks to the fact that I was a Windows Systems Engineer for 25 years I was able to recognize the various screens/windows and sludge my way through the entire process only to be rewarded with a procedure that changed NOTHING on the 8T. Lovely! :silly:
While I do appreciate the videos, they apparently are not relative to the 8T for some unknown (at least to me) reason!
Now I did note at the start of this thread that someone mentioned that this did not work on the 8T...so maybe I should have just listened to him and saved my time. To be fair though, I've had more fun getting a root canal than slogging through a foreign language video in a futile attempt to activate a cell signal that should be activated OOTB!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far, and I hope OnePlus gets their heads out of their a$$ and make this thing work as expected.
