RCS on the Android 9 beta - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Have anyone tested RCS on the Android P/9 beta yet?
It's still not working on 8.1 so it's interesting to know if it's there in 9.
Just to be clear. The problem on 8.1 is that while you're able to activate RCS and register with your operator, you are unable to actually send or receive RCS messages.
The question then becomes, have anyone been able to send and/or receive RCS messages on 9?

I haven't actually checked yet, but I can test later today. I'm on T-Mobile in the US, so it's limited currently. I'm not sure if it will work on the 6 at all with them yet (since it's their own custom RCS and not Universal).

Can't get it to work on T-mobile. Tested against my V30 that has it enabled.

Yeah that seems likely since they apparently have a hard limit on which devices gets enabled.
Were you unable to activate, or just unable to send?

It was working for me when I was on Vodafone UK but after moving to EE this feature has now been removed.

Enable WIFI Calling?

I can't seem to find the wifi calling feature in my settings, has anyone had any luck with this yet? I activated my Verizon variant yesterday on Verizon, according to the tech helping me with activation it should work on the phone and showed enabled on the account after activation but I cannot find the setting for VoLTE or WIFI calling.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to work. You should check the older U11 forums to see if anyone was able to get those features working on Verizon. I've chatted with HTC, and they flat out told me those features would not work on AT&T no matter what. Some carriers just don't allow every feature to be available on unlocked phones.

Im on T-Mobile so I know not a direct comparison, but I couldn't find my VOLTE or WIFI calling features right away. They are under settings / call / very bottom. To holz75's point, it may not be workable with Verizon.

hi mate I been able to make wifi and volte working on my htc u12+ maybe this help you
check my thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/u12-plus/how-to/wi-fi-calling-volte-t3867267

VoLTE working on AT&T need someone to test theory.

Bear with me as I'm no expert and I need to explain what happened.
I have an op6 running Android 9.0.2 rooted with magisk only. Tried all the tricks, installed magisk voenabler, did the numeric codes to condition the phone (*#800# and *#*#4636#*#*) but never got volte to work with att in us. Last week going on a cruise I was having issues with my phone not opening the login page for the ship's wifi (this is another bug on Android 9 because before update I didn't have this issue) so I decided to install the magisk Google dns repo to see if it will fix the issue and it did (the login page). And my volte it's working ever since too. It's being half a day since I'm back and I have rebooted the phone and run speed tests and is working fine. Can anybody with att confirm this to know if this could be a fix or a fluke?
Tried the module, unfortunately it disabled the 2nd sim which is my AT&T one
I'll be able to test VoLTE on At&T via red pocket and see if the MVNO has it later in the month, but I can confirm that when I was using the OP6 on verizon VoLTE was fully working. I was also on 9.0.2 PIE and I didn't need to do anything special to get it to work.
My understanding is your account needs to have VOLTE on it, or else it does not work.

I've had VoLTE on AT&T enabled since the beginning. It's an option in xXx's ROM and works great.
Just because the rom has options for volte doesn't mean it will work for everyone. You carrier itself needs to support volte as well. And lots of carrier make you pay extra for it.

Well, this thread is talking about AT&T, which supports it, and I have been using VoLTE and not paying extra for it. So what's your point again?

Actually it's about him wondering if it works you should read the op first and like I said just cause it's supported doesn't mean you automatically get it your not paying extra will that's good for you but there are others that do I actually answered his questions with useful information. What exactly are you doing here other than trying to pick arguments with people.
I'm also on att, not sure what you did wrong there, but i used the voenabler module and it works, have you tried switching your sims and see?
Is it contract or prepaid? I heard people say that prepaid sim won't get volte.
Not working

Did everything you said, couldn't get it to work with my OnePlus 3T on Nougat OOS or my OnePlus 6T running Pie OOS. Maybe on a Pixel/AOSP ROM? I called ATT and they said something about my IMEI wasn't letting them enable VoLTE...

Thanks for your input Tyler, in other words we can confirm that it's att issues because the only thing different that I did from you was using my phone during our stop in Puerto Rico (for those who doesn't know PR is considered us soil so we we can use our phones with no extra charge, it's like calling to another state). I thought I would loose it as soon as I would arrive State side but I still have the service. So something got updated in att when I turned on my phone and used the network from PR that enabled it.

Wifi-Calling on T-mobile in US

Hi guys,
If i buy the 1+7 pro from their website, which i think is unlocked version, will it support wifi calling on tmobile network in US?
I understand tmobile has their own version, but based on their website review, it has tons of junk software preloaded and don't know why they removed the original screen protector, also locked bootloader, so im not too interested in that version....
I work in an area where there's basically no signal, so wifi calling is a must for me...now using a sony xz premium international version, basically can not make phone calls with it.
Thanks!

As long as you don't use a private DNS, it'll work. It's always worked on every OnePlus phone I've come in contact with.

Can you help explain this to me? I have the GSM Unlocked version.
Since yesterday I had the banner at the top showing VoLTE.
I wondered why it didn't show VoWifi while connected to my home network.
I literally did nothing except log into my T-Mobile account through my browser and the banner in my status bar switched to VoWifi, so I was like, oh cool!
But now, minutes later, the banner is gone altogether.
No VoLTE.
No VoWifi.
*Edit*
And now VoWifi is back
There's setting to enable these two in SIM card setting, a little hard to find...
That's the only thing I can think of, as mine as came enabled when received. Both work

I'm curious about LTE bands since you are on T-mobile in USA.
Can you confirm the phone support of bands 66 / 71 ? I've seen international specs that say the phone does and does not support these bands.
Edit 6/4/2019. I saw that you actually ordered a OnePlus 7 pro, and not a OnePlus 7... It does not appear that the OnePlus 7 supports bands 66 or 71, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7/help/one-plus-7-t3930123/page3

Used to get Volte but not now.

I am living in India and using a Vodafone sim as my primary and I used to get Volte sometimes back but I'm not getting it now. When sent a message to Vodafone care, I got a reply that my handset does not support 2100MHz band. Is there a way to get Volte or is this some regional problem? Thank you.

Did you get VoLTE on this device previously?
Even I had the same issue I wasn't getting VoLTE, sent multiple activation messages yet it never got enabled
(The system kept declining saying that the device isn't compatible whereas it very well was). Finally customer service had to forward this to the Central tech team who were able to enable it manually.
This can be done in your case too but it involves a lot of calls to the customer care and patience.

Global Version RCS in the US

Because no matter what I do I can't get it enabled here. I activated it in 8 phones already. Is there a secret or a stipulation?

Is that Facebook messenger or Google Messages.
Either way I'm not sure. It may have something to do with Metro by T-Mobile. I'll be working on it.
Thanks!

No. Google messages. I'm not giving facebook access to my text messages.
Solution: So I added global texting to my device (which actually belongs to my wife) just so that my sim could be activated on the xiaomi network. Afterwards, I downgraded messages to the "Pegasus" version and re-attempted the workaround. Eureka! Success! This one here is the Pro version as well. Hadn't installed the update that came a couple of days ago at the time. Case dismissed!
