[Guide] Successfully Downgraded From Oreo To Nougat - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all, I am not sure if this will help you to downgrade from oreo to nougat but I am having issue with oreo firmware this is why I take a chance to downgrade from oreo to nougat due to some feature. I was excited once oreo released for S7 Edge but from time to time its disappointed me. Anyways I was using BTU latest G935FXXU2EREM, G935FOXA2EREM and now I am using G935FXXU2DRAG with same BL and Modem. You can also downgrade from oreo to nougat if you want but I will not taking any responsibility if your phone damage.
1- Download nougat firmware from Here
2- Open up Odin with Admin Rights. Put your phone into Downgrade Mode, select BL and CP and leave the checked as default (Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time) and flash
3- Once reboot now its time to downgrade to nougat, put BL, AP, CP and CSC (Not Home_CSC)
4- Get pit file from CSC file (use 7zip to extract) and place into their respective field. Checked Auto Reboot, Nand Erase, Re-Partition, F.Reset Time
5- This will fully format your phone, flash it and wait for reboot
6- Profit?
Let me know what's your experience on this. I just share my experience without having issue since now.

Obviously it will trip but that's fake one. However, the main reason is to downgrade and I shared here since many people wants to downgrade from oreo to nougat.

does this work with the canadian S7 Edge downgrade? SM-G935W8?

[ODIN] Tick the PHONE BOOTLOADER UPDATE. Why? Why?...

Now on Note3 N9005 there are some members or Dev's that advise to tick or mark the Phone Bootloader Update in ODIN when we flash a full single Rom whit Bootloader in AP or PDA.
But them not explain why they advise that.
I not understand why and I need known the reasons for this. Single Yes or Not are not enough for me.
I'm on my 11º Samsung device, I used some Odin versions from 1.83 to 3.09 and the Odin Multi Dowloader V4 also.
I flashed already many, many Roms by Odin and...
I Never ticked the PHONE BOOTLODER UPDATE... NEVER... NEVER...
Why now here?
Is it because the Knox Bootloader? But the S4 Mini LTE + Mega 6.3" LTE + N7100 3G have also the Knox Bootloader but anybody advise to tick the Boot Update. (N7100 is now on 4.3).
I think:
1- We must not tick it if we flash a new full Bootloader.
2- We must tick it if we flash one Mod to Update the Bootloader installed.
3- Or we must tick it in some special devices for some reason.
Please people help me to understand this but whit good explanations.
Thank You

To upgrade to Kitkat, you'll need to upgrade your bootloader, if you're upgrading to another 4.3 then its not needed

well simple , some roms required bootloader to upgrade either you tick or no they update it and some roms didn't required upgradation of bootloader at that point if you tick then BL will upgrade otherwise don't

For me not true.
I flashed from XXUDML2_OXXDMK3 Android 4.3 to XXUENA6_OXXENA5 XEO Android 4.4.2 Kitkat without tick Phone Bootloader Update and all well, no issues. I never ticked this and I'm now on XXUENB3 Kitkat.
I made full wipe data+cache+dalvik and format system on customer recovery before flash Kitkat.
I continue doubting from that. Sorry

N900->> I've just upgraded to 4.3(MK2) to 4.4.2(NA6) without BL update tick.
That's a fact.
What is the big point? To tick or not to tick?
I'm really sorry, but I miss the importance and use of this thread.
For me ( using N900W8 ) it didn't made any difference whether I tick it or not. Flashing from 4.3 to 4.4 and vice versa didn't give me any problem.

To You may be, for me not.
If the tick is for this:
2- We must tick it if we flash one Mod to Update the Bootloader installed. (from OP).
I'm afraid in this case, if Odin flash the new BL over the oldest without wipe this one, in some cases we can have issues.
May be I'm in error but I'm thinking.

You could have updated and then re-rooted again by now
Think its possible if you download a pre-rooted rom.
Yes i know the other possibilities, but i don't want to lose my data and install everything again, thats why i want to know if it is possible to update without losing root and wiping. With flashfire it was possible to that on marshmallow but i dont know if it wil work if i update to nougat

I have seen that it is possible with other phones by updating with flashfire but i want to know if it works fine for the s7 too...
Still no solution -_-
I upgrade between nougat firmware using flashfire and just put the SuperSU/Magisk(switched to Magisk recently, both work) zip in the flash chain. So it works. Not sure about marshmallow to nougat though.
Steps to update....?
Would you be so kind as to provide us the steps to updating with stock ROM? I have a rooted S7 with Magisk/TWRP that I would like to update (without losing root) to the latest stock ROM from Samsung.
It would be greatly appreciated!

Note: You still need a PC to flash the bootloader and modem with Odin, but that might not be necessary for smaller updates. This may not work too well coming from MM to Nougat.
In Flashfire, add the AP file only from the ROM. Next, add a HOME_CSC file from your current CSC and make sure it says "Process cache". You can mix HOME_CSC files from any region with newer firmware marked for any other region. Extremely old HOME_CSC files will likely break the newest firmware though. Make sure to turn off EverRoot if you intend to use Magisk, in which case you should add the Magisk zip to the flash chain.(don't use v13 yet). Add any other mods you typically flash here (eg. I have a zip which disables tima in build.prop to keep encryption working) Also make sure "Preserve recovery" is on. Set the device to shutdown when done. (Download mode won't work when booted into by Flashfire. It's a bug) Next boot into download mode and flash the BL and CP files from the firmware package with Odin and reboot. It might boot back into TWRP, in which case just boot into system.
You're awesome, Curtis!
Though I'm still scratching my head: so even though I have Magisk/TWRP already installed on Nougat (to gain root access) and I wish to update with the latest Nougat ROM from Samsung that was just posted on sammobile 2 days ago, am I correct in saying that I would STILL have to install Flashfire and EverRoot for this process to work?
Thank you for your tutelage and patience.

EverRoot injects SuperSU, basically as if by CF AutoRoot. Magisk has it's own rooting solution, which despite being compatible with SuperSU will likely fail safetynet if Supersu is installed. Also I have no idea which order it will flash them in so I can't predict the outcome here...
Basically. If you want SuperSU use EverRoot. If you want Magisk, disable it and use the Magisk zip. Both will grant root access when done.

This is only for people who dont want to wait for official OTA and for Devs who wants to make a ROM now
The official firmware might get uploaded on sammobile after 2-3 days

Your Warranty is void if you install TWRP once in your phone. Installing TWRP changes knox counter to 0x1.
It stays 0x1 even after flashing official firmware later. So dont install TWRP just for this update. Wait for official release!

Also you may not be able to flash your country official firmware via Odin (Bootloader Version Lock).

Odin will not let you flashback to a previous boot loader version, you have to do it through TWRP. So either flash the nougat firmware with TWRP first or any nougat based rom, then flash nougat via odin which will remove root and TWRP.

Are there any instructions for this?
Will secure apps (Banking etc) work again after removing root?
I was under the impression you could via Odin if OEM unlock was enabled, without needing TWRP or root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-downgrade-android-oreo-8-0-t3821495
edit: As for banking, if you go root then flash back to stock you should have no issues. Even if you stay root, things like Magisk will hide root status from apps and pass safetynet. Your biggest issue would be the loss of Knox, which voids warranty and breaks some Samsung apps.

Ok so listen, it can be done as i said but it's not easy. The choice you have of course before attempting this is to just install a android 7 custom ROM? many nougat ROMs are just stock with the bloatware removed and the boot-loader version isn't checked during flash.
Here's another way to go back, i can't guarantee it will work though i haven't tried it on an S7.
Downgrade to an older firmware with an older bootloader even if one keeps the newer bootloader on his device.
So what's how's it done?
Download the firmware file (.tar) which you want to downgrade to and open it with an archiver application (7zip). Extracts all the files to a folder and repacks them again in a .tar file but leaving every file out which ends in .bin (e.g. sboot.bin etc.). This .tar file can now be flashed like any other firmware file via Odin and it should run through it without any problems.
Hope this helps.

Hello, i would to ask about how to downgrade to the earlier version of the stock ROM

and this is my device firmware now A750GNDXU2ASB4
or is it not possible to downgrade? any help around this as to not void my warranty if possible
There could be a couple of things:
1. You could be using an outdated version of Odin
2. You need to re-download the firmware, try searching updato for your firmware
3. Maybe the current/latest version of the firmware installed on your phone locks your boot loader to the current version (binary version matches the boot loader)and that is why you can't downgrade
What you could try (definitely at your OWN risk) because if things go wrong you can end up with an expensive paper weight:
1. Unpack the firmware with 7zip, remove the file (cm.bin) then repack to tar with 7zip
2. You can try to flash just the AP and CSC

Does it works for gn user? Any one try it?
I've tried to downgrade my SM-A750GN via odin software, but fails cm.bin and parameter.bin.
AP and CSC only to flash, it's not work at all.
How about flashing the oreo firmware with TWRP, does any one have tried it?

You can't downgrade because the bootloader is protected by Rollback Prevention, the only way (maybe) to use Oreo is to flash TWRP and wipe system data and use any custom Oreo ROM.
If you want to know about Rollback Prevention then there is a attached pdf from the Samsung Technical documentation
