Hi Everyone
We all know that Xiaomi added Anti roll-back to latest Stable/Beta ROMs and many users bricked their phones because of it, check my thread about ARB Here, then check out this one
Here ill provide a Guide to Mod Miui ROMs to flash it without "firmware-update", to prevent any potential bricking while switching between Miui Based ROMs
Download Xiaomi Flashable Firmware Creator and follow those steps:
1- Download .exe for windows, or the one without extension for linux, and download Miui Based ROM you want to edit
2- Put them in the same folder tool & .zip file
3- Open CMD/Terminal in that folder and type the command you want with file name, it has three options

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Code:
-F FIRMWARE, Create normal Firmware zip
-N NONARB, Create non-ARB Firmware zip
-L FIRMWARELESS, Create Firmware-less zip
Commands will be like this.
Code:
create_flashable_firmware.exe -F miui_HMNote5HMNote5ProGlobal_8.11.23_12bcf570ce_8.1.zip
create_flashable_firmware.exe -N miui_HMNote5HMNote5ProGlobal_8.11.23_12bcf570ce_8.1.zip
create_flashable_firmware.exe -L miui_HMNote5HMNote5ProGlobal_8.11.23_12bcf570ce_8.1.zip
Run the command you want and result file will be in the same folder
Final Zips after running all the commands
Manual Method
ill post two way of doing it, on PC & Mobile, ill start off with PC method:
Open ROM ZIP and remove firmware-update & META-INF folders
[*]Copy over my modified META-INF folder
[*]and Done, copy over the modded ZIP to your phone and flash
Check attachments or Drive folder for already modified scripts to use
2nd Post will have Mobile method
NOTE: never contact me on PM's or on Telegram, because ill simply ignore your msgs, ask in here or in whyred chats
Mobile Method
with this mehtod, ill be using FX File Explorer, you could use MiXplorer also, just make sure to follow the same steps
Extract ROM
[*]Remove firmware-update & META-INF folders
[*]Copy over my modified META-INF folder
[*]Re-Zip/Compress ROM files
[*]Make sure to use those settings or TWRP wont flash it
[*]and Done, Flash from TWRP
Check attachments or Drive folder for already modified scripts to use
NOTE: never contact me on PM's or on Telegram, because i'll simply ignore your msgs, ask in here or in whyred chats
Editing Fastboot ROMs
Fastboot ROMs are easy to edit, just follow these simple steps
Excract ROM
Copy over included flash scripts to ROM folder
Then Run the script you want to use, like flash_all.bat to flash everything and wipe data, or use MiTool to flash it
Scripts are included in OP
Thanks...great work buddy

Is that possible with bootloader locked?. Is possible to flash oficial modded rom with stock recovery?
Thanks for the guide!
Can something similar be done with Fastboot roms?
You reported the Xiaomi have blocked using old roms with Mi Flash.
So if something happens to our devices, we can use Mi Flash with modded rom, so not to trigger ARP. Or do you need permission(from them) to even flash roms with that now?
Also does NON_HLOS.bin contain bootloader files?
Thank you very much.
Can i do it with OTA rom which is smaller download size?
Very Nice..
whats the diferences between META-INF-EU-Miui and META-INF-Stock-Miui ?
thanks
Can I go back to 9.5.17.0 from 9.5.19.0 by modding with this method?

Bring device in fastboot mode, then enter

This will lock your bootloader again. Afterwards, do a full wipe of the system and you should be pretty much back to start again.

Can I just flash the boot.img through ADB sideload? The reason I ask is that I have TWRP on an encrypted phone (before checking that encryption wasn't supported oops!); so currently only able to ADB sideload as sdcard is not mountable to flash full zip.

I don't have GEM-701L so I can't be sure the following method will work. I took the method from GEM-703L owners but it worked on my own GEM-702L so if you want to try do it at your own risk and make sure you've your full backups including the stock RECOVERY.img of your GEM-701L current ROM.
1) Download "X2_TWRP_CN_kangvip.rar" from https://yadi.sk/d/5YI63uiAhz5UD/Recovery/TWRP
2) Go into bootloader - check and ensure that your bootloader is UNLOCKED.
3) Make sure you've a backup of your stock RECOVERY.img of your GEM-701L ROM
4) After your bootloader is unlocked, using fastboot enter "fastboot flash recovery twrp_cn.img" where the "twrp_cn.img" is from the .RAR file you downloaded in (1) above
5) Reboot the phone
6) Copy the "Beta-SuperSU-v2.49.zip" file into the root of your phone's internal SD
7) Reboot into custom recovery mode and install the zip file in (6) above
8) If successful, after reboot your phone is already rooted.

Unfortunately if you wish to root then you can't avoid affecting some part of the stock ROM.
totally agreed, actually I want to root just to force the preferred network to LTE only which is not available in android 5.0, while you can select LTE only in mate 7 (4.4.2 as well 5.1.1 )
This method isn't working for the 701 (tried it today).
I assume, the 701-owner need another TRWP-Image
Has somebody a backupded recovery.img from a stock 701?

Which part isn't working ? The custom recovery or the SuperSU install ?
You can extract the stock 701 recovery.IMG from the stock 701 ROM file.
The custom recovery part. I'm able to install, but it isn't possible to boot into recovery (it reboots again).
Thank you for the info about extracting the recovery.img from the stock 701 rom file... i will give it a try.

You may wish to try another alternative custome recovery by "cofface". He specifically created it for X2 (GEM-703L) for Android 5.0.5. This is not the same as the kangVIP custom recovery but I myself was able to reboot into it for GEM-702L but not sure whether it can work on your GEM-701L.

With my other mobile with TWRP I was able to interpret the buttons I had to press... Root is working now!
Curious: It wasn' t necessary to do a wipe, factory reset or something like that.
Unlocking the bootloader, installing TWRP is working anyway.

Yes this is Chinese custom recovery.
Go to: https://yadi.sk/d/5YI63uiAhz5UD/Recovery/TWRP/theme
download 1 of the 3 zip files (1 will do you choose your preferred theme color)
rename this as ui.zip
In your internal SD there is a folder TWRP. Create a subfolder named "theme" and place the ui.zip inside "theme" subfolder.
When you next reboot into TWRP you should see English menus.
Great.
With the first file it looks like this
but it's ok for me. One nasty thing: with this design you can't see a swype-to-unlock-button in recovery. But with a little searching you are able to unlock it.
Thanks a lot, this helps a lot of german x2 owner!

You can pull the missing blobs/files from the stock ROM. Just use Superr's Kitchen to extract them. I contacted him and he has already added support for the chunk file extract for Lenovo.
Look at my github repo for the partition sizes or lookup the "Lenovo P2 is coming soon" thread for all partition information.
You actually don't need root to figure out the partition size.

The rom doesn't boot. After the reboot from the recovery it goes into bootloader and if I force it to start after the lenovo logo the screen became black with a blue led and the phone vibrates for 3 sec.

That''s because the TWRP i build was made specifically for zip files containing the proper "ro.build.product=" like stock zip files and stock OTA files do. Allowing TWRP to be compatible with those files and prefenting "not so advanced" users from installing the wrong ROM.
https://github.com/Celoxocis/android_device_lenovo_P2a42/blob/cm-13.0/system.prop#L4
You need to open up the zip file and change that information accordingly.

No! Everything that is in persist is actually just calibration data. Its called persist to "persist" between reboots.
Everything placed there comes from system.
For those files look in:
/system/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
/system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/WCNSS_qcom_wlan_nv_lenovo.bin
./system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/WCNSS_wlan_dictionary_lenovo.dat
just rename them properly for a bring-up.
Then I should change device name to p2a42 what about using msm8916 graphics blobs?

Just change/add the assert information properly. Like this:
https://github.com/Alberto97/android_device_motorola_addison/blob/cm-14.1/BoardConfig.mk#L40
if you like to add more simply seperate them by a ","
msm8916 works for up to the same generation like (msm8939)
but i don't know about generation change like msm8953 is.

Isn't working. Same as before
Hi
I created root method for the last version of samsung J2 Prime G532G - G532GDXU1APL1.
It based on modified stock recovery with custom keys (mine), which allow to install a special zip that signed with those keys.
This method include's a patched boot.img (sepolicy), in order the root work properly. (this is normal system root - not systemless, and from Android 6.0 or samsung 5.1.1 and above need also pathed boot)
The phone must be with G532GDXU1APL1 version, or it wont work.
It can be downloaded from here
G532GDXU1APL1
Instructions:
Download this file, and extract it to some folder.
G532GDXU1APL1_root_by_avicohh
Open odin and flash the .tar file inside the folder (In AP).
This file contains the custom recovery, a patched boot, and an empty cache.img in order the phone will restart to recovery after flashing.
In recovery choose "Apply update from ADB".
Run the .bat script file from the "SuperSU sideload installer" folder.
Wait until it finish, the phone will restart automatically with SuperSU inside.
Good luck!
Credits:
@Chainfire for SuperSU
@osm0sis for AIK
P.S. (for devs)
This method can be modified to another build / device, by patching the sepolicy inside boot.img (see here), and replacing the res / keys file inside the recovery.img with my keys. (Attached)
You can unpack and repack boot and recovery images with this tool. (It recomanded to this on linux in order to keep the files permissions)
The stock recovery doesn't support the standart SuperSU installer bacause it bash script, so i wrote another one in Edify. (this zip should work on any device with android 5.11 - 6.0.1 and armv7)
I am waiting new method root for G532G (G532GDXU1APL1)
Now..
great work ,,thanks bro .......I 'm so happy .....

Good luck!

@avicohh WHY SUPERUSER CANNOT BE READ?
Try with another computer.
I my god it is now ask for password, and i have no z2x box to unlock it :/
So maybe @bolda.mia is wrong.
The reason the device ask for password is because the custom boot is based on G532GDXU1APL1 and you have a newer system version. (I think is something related to storage encryption, I don't know exactly)
That's why I said this method should work only on G532GDXU1APL1.
Anyway, flash the stock version back. I believe it will fix the problem even without wipe.
before root, I already flash to lower version brother

i know exactly, that i already flashing with the lower rom such as pl1 pk3 etc. And the result is same, ask for password my brother!
Hey, This is my first post, hope it goes well
What happened was,
-->I installed a custom rom(LineageOS) with the help of twrp recovery installed from xda(link below) and I have succesfully installed the rom and also intalled root with it
-->Later, after further use of the new rom, ,it was uncomfortable. It was not as fast and compactable as the original rom so I decided to revert back to the official and original rom.
-->But This is where I made a big mistake, I was to try to clear the data and try if the custom rom fixed but instead, I wiped up the whole rom and no backup!!!
-->Now, I cannot go into recovery mode, bootloader and whichever vol+ and vo- and power, all combinations boot me to twrp.
-->luckyly, the adb sideload is working and it is not detected in the lenovo downloader software for me to flash.
Any help? Please help me.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
I tried what you've mentioned but no luck.
BTW, I did not find the stock rom zip anywhere, so I am using the lineage os custom ROM.
It boots me back into the twrp.(100% done)

That's an ADB issue.
ADB sideload's progress indicator only shows 100% if transferred size is 2.2 times of ZIP-file size.

What files are present there? You may have to extract them to get an .img file
I have a rar file which I extracted, there is no folder present.
These are the files present

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply

Checked it: Link given above is working as expected.

You can watch the video below for your reference.

Correct.
Search for suitable Stock ROM at your own.
I've searched for over 3 days but no luck.
All I get is the rar file and inside that, firmware folder, drivers and software for flashing it.
If I get the tab into bootloader, I can flash but it does not allow me to go into boot loader, stock recovery.
All it does is to take me back to TWRP.
I have aldready installed around 7-9 stock roms but no zip file with meta inf folder, boot.img, system.img and the other required files.
Please Help
So I searched the WEB for tablet's Stock ROM and found it within seconds.

You flash it either via ADB Sideload method or via Lenovo Downloader Tool.
Hi,
Even I had found the same one.
But how do I flash it via adb sideload?
The problem is, in the zip file, there is drives, firmware and another folder.
Thanks for replying
