I have seen this post many times before, but never got a solution to what I am looking for. My Galaxy S7 is about 2 years old now, and no problems with it, have just loved this phone. Recently, I started having a battery drain issue where Android System would use up large amounts of battery. I had this issue on Nougat, and I recently updated to Oreo and the issue isn't fixed. I have deeply looked across the internet on different ways to fix it, and I have tried everything. I have tried wiping cache partition, resetting app preferences, resetting settings, factory reset, clearing data and cache from Google services, turning off background usage for android system, installing Gsam and looking to see what's draining it there, turning off all services I'm not currently using (Location, NFC, Bluetooth, ETC), checking cell signal, turning off backup data for Samsung/Google, not leaving Wifi on in sleep, checking and ending unnecessary running services in developer options, disabling bloatware, and SO much more. Nothing has worked. I get around 3 hours Screen On Time, which I feel is unreasonable. Android system seems OK in the background, but It keeps at the same battery drain speed as the screen. (example: my screen has 13% battery drain, meaning that android system also claims 13%) sometimes it is a couple percent lower, and sometimes higher, but usually close to the same. My sister has a Galaxy S5, and when she uses down from a full charge the android system drain is 3% which is a lot different from what I get. My phone even has a bigger battery than hers, but her's has no problem with battery drain. This is the T-mobile S7, running Android Oreo. Please don't suggest power saving mode, or a lot of limiting options on the phone. What's the point of a SMART phone if I can't use all these neat very useful features? I would be better off with a flip phone if I was going for only calling and texts. Please help me find another solution that will fix my problem.

Hi, all.
This is my first time posting. I have searched the web and through this forum for an answer to my question but no dice. I hope someone here can help.
(By the way, I'm currently using the Oxygen ICS rom. I used to be on Oxygen Gingerbread, and I briefly tried the latest Kitkat build, but couldn't use as a daily driver).
Over the past months, I've transitioned off of my monthly cell plan in favour of a prepaid data add on + VoIP app (Fongo) for calls/texts. I WFH so my cell is on WiFi 90% of the day.
The issue I'm facing is that when I use the WiFi lock option in the app itself, my battery life dips down considerably. But when I don't use this option, I often miss incoming calls (the WiFi appears to go to sleep after awhile, even though I have WiFi set to be always on even when the device is sleeping).
As an alternative, I've tried many apps in the Play Store, such as Wifi Keep alive (Roys and Shantz), and Wifi Fixer.
I've tried them all individually and in combination with each other. They do make the device more efficient at receiving incoming calls while preserving more battery life than the above WiFi lock, but it's still not 100% perfect.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to improve WiFi connectivity when my phone is in sleep mode without sacrificing a lot of battery? (In the form of either an app, system setting, or alternative ROM to what I'm using.) I realize there has to be some impact on battery if WiFi is on, but given that Fongo drains the battery whereas third party apps are more forgiving on it, I'm wondering if there's a better solution/configuration out there.
I experience this issue in Gingerbread and ICS. I don't experience it in Kitkat, but the battery barely lasts for 6-8 hours.
I hope I'm explaining this clearly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA.
An update:
I found the Wake Lock app (developer "darken") in the app store, and that seems to have solved my issue. I set it to the "Partial Wakelock" setting and now all incoming calls come in correctly on WiFi and my battery doesn't drain as quickly as it did with other apps or the Fongo setting.
Posting this in case it helps someone else in this situation.
I've looked around a bunch and it seems like a lot of people are having a problem with terrible battery drain after the last two android updates. I'm on Verizon, unrooted, stock GS3. Ever since the update to 4.4 I've been hit with Google Services or Google Play Services running non-stop. My phone battery will discharge from 100% to critical in less the 4 hours without any use. The usual tricks of killing the process, restarting the phone and factory resetting have not worked. This has gotten ridiculous. Has anyone come up with any way to fix the sticking processes? Any kind of update at all? I'm extremely frustrated. I've had this phone for 2 years with no battery drain problems. Then I took the first 4.4 update and I started getting problems. Now with the newest update its much worse. Nothing will stop Google Services from running constantly. I can't wait to get an upgrade at this point.

From what I've read on not just here, but for other phones...the usual culprit is location services via google now. The best way to test this is to turn off google now (which will just give you the standard pre jb google search) and see if that calms things down. If you want google now...try turning off location reporting in google''s location settings. Additionally, turn off syncing to things under the google account that you don't necessary need to sync constantly.

I kept reading more forum posts yesterday, and I am fairly confident that I found the correct answer for my phone. I've never had a problem before with the location services draining my battery. The culprit is the "OK Google" voice detection constantly listening. Ever since I turned that off, my battery usage has returned to normal. Immediately I noticed a difference in the phone's performance and the battery percentage didn't drain while I was watching it. This makes sense too with the timing of the update and my battery drain. KitKat brought this feature to the GS3 and that is precisely when my battery started to be sucked dry. Whereas before, Google services was listed as 40-60% of my battery usage, it's now down to 15%. The good thing with turning this off is I never used the feature, unlike location services that are baked into everything and actually useful to me. Thanks for the help.

These days the battery consumption of "Android OS" process has been quite high. Last days it has been around 30-40%, but today, it reaches the awesome figures of 70%.
I have francokernel-r32 (last one) which everyone reports it's a battery friendly kernel. Obviously I notice no difference between francokernel and stock because of the Android OS battery drain. Also I have the CM11s-R44 stock.
Other little details: I use Greenify, cleanmaster and Amplify to save battery and system resources. Localization is fully turned off (I don't need it) and using 2G and WiFi networks (I use 3G just for few minutes/seconds to download or surf the web).
The xposed modules I have installed: amplify, bootmanager, complete action plus, greenify, whatsapp quiet hours and youtube adaway. I think none of these can be suspicious of battery drain.
Any suggest? I have no idea on facing this problem...

Firstly, you say 'also I have CM11S-r44 stock', but you're not stock if you have Franco installed. Anyway, it could be Google Play Services that's causing the problems, have you tried this?

have you read the thread on r32 its been giving people some issues. May I suggest r31 and as previously mentioned are you running Google Now. I mean the the drain you see could be warranted. Also what the Keep Awake showing you? How bad is that

I'm going to piggy back off this thread. Android OS and Android System are killing my battery as well. I've turned off the Google Location Services keep awake and wake up (etc...as per Timmaa's thread), and I'm still getting a very large keep awake from Android System. Please see the attached screenshot.
Nothing else has been edited. I'm on 44R stock rooted.

I'm not really sure actually. I'm connected to WIFI around 80% of a given day so my guess would be yes.
Do you know of something that could be causing the drain, or is that just what happens when you're connected to WIFI?

I have this issue from time to time when connected to my home Wifi. You could try by turning off Wifi for some time.
Rebooting the Wifi AP or changeing channel helps for me in that case.
Is it a hidden network?

I scoured through all the battery related discussions and wasn't able to find an issue similar to mine, so I hope it's okay to post a new thread on this topic. I have an AT&T (Snapdragon) Galaxy S7 with stock software and about a month and a half ago I started experiencing horrible battery life. I have been desperately trying to figure out what the issue is. At first I thought it was AT&T WiFi calling because it was forcing my WiFi and data connections to toggle back and forth and disabling that did help. However my battery life was still poor and I could never get more than about 10.5 hours of moderate use (see pictures below). Also the phone gets hot randomly (Above 95 Fahrenheit) even when doing minor tasks like browsing through Chrome. Since then I have made the following changes with no noticeable improvement:
Disabled advanced LTE services
Disabled Always on Display
Disabled WiFi and Bluetooth location scanning
Disabled nearby device scanning
Wiped cache multiple times
Temporarily disabled Bluetooth and WiFi to monitor the difference
Used Greenify Aggressive Dose
Disabled all diagnostic reporting
Uninstalled Oculus when that battery issue came up
Side note: I disabled a bunch of bloatware right when I got the phone, not through Package Disabler but through the standard Android disable method
I kept digging and found that my phone doesn't enter dose unless I use Greenify, and even then I don't notice a difference. I then decided to do a hard reset but no luck. Afterwards I used Safe Mode to see if any 3rd party apps were misbehaving, but again the drain was consistent both while idle and while using the phone. Today I installed Wakelock Detector Lite and found that PowerManagerService is keeping my phone from dosing, but from what I've read online it seems that info doesn't really point to a specific app, and it's hard to identify unless I root the phone which I don't want to do.
I am going crazy trying to figure out if this is a software/settings issue or if I should just replace the phone through AT&T and risk getting a defective refurb. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many people have similar problems. One reason was the buggy oculus app (you might wanna disable that when it came pre installed, depending on your CSC).
However the main reason behind the high "android-system" usage is still unclear. Some people experience it, some dont. Some people have better battery results with the firmware from March.
Personally, I believe that it is firmware related. I tried the N7 rom port and did not have a problem at all.
You might wanna wait for the October update that will hit soon and see if this fixes anything.
I notice you have 'media server' showing in your battery stats. My wife had that showing too and also had terrible battery life. Her fix was disabling the auto streaming in her Facebook app which plays videos while you scroll through posts. Now she has great battery life!
I have the Facebook app disabled on my phone altogether. I've also used safe mode where 3rd party apps are disabled but the battery still drains at around 5% an hour while idle.

most likely a software issue. my version is G930FXXU1APEQ and i'm been getting 11 hour on batty with around 6- 7 hour of screen on.
Try disabling Google backup. It's a huge battery drainer

Nothing has helped so far so I decided to uninstall my apps in batches until battery life improves. I'll then slowly reinstall them one by one until I find the culprit. I'll report back with my findings. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've got some annoying problems with software. Can you guess which phone? Yup, it's a Samsung. The S7 to be exact.
Now I'm not going to get too much in depth with my battery problems because from what I've seen there's not much people can help me with, but here's a summary (I'm on Nougat btw) :
I get no more than 3 hours of SOT and 10 hours total with data, and it's been getting worse. When i go on to see which app uses more it's Android System, with usually around 800 MAh consumed. And keep in mind i use my phone extensively so it's not that high because i don't use it and it uses the battery while it's sleeping. Idling is actually pretty good. The problem is i can't track what exactly uses my battery. Is it Knox? Is it ANT or whatever? That's because if a package is included in Android System it's the same battery usage for all of them. If you go see how much did Knox use versus how much did the camera use it shows the same percentage. So to solve that I've tried GSAM, but it displays the same amount of information. An app that seeme like it could help is System Monitor or whatever it was called. The problem with that is it can't access all the info due to restrictions placed in Nougat. So now comes my main question. GSAM had the same problem but there was a workaround without root, which included an ADB command to grant access to BATTERY_STATS. Today i found out it works for Wakelock Detector too. So i was wondering, can i grant access to needed information to other apps like System Monitor on my own, or does this ADB workaround need to be added on the app by the dev. (I'm quite the noob when it comes to this stuff). As for my terrible battery life i know smth like a factory reset would do the job but i really can't do it right now because of reasons.
