[Q] Google Services/Google Play Services running constantly

I've looked around a bunch and it seems like a lot of people are having a problem with terrible battery drain after the last two android updates. I'm on Verizon, unrooted, stock GS3. Ever since the update to 4.4 I've been hit with Google Services or Google Play Services running non-stop. My phone battery will discharge from 100% to critical in less the 4 hours without any use. The usual tricks of killing the process, restarting the phone and factory resetting have not worked. This has gotten ridiculous. Has anyone come up with any way to fix the sticking processes? Any kind of update at all? I'm extremely frustrated. I've had this phone for 2 years with no battery drain problems. Then I took the first 4.4 update and I started getting problems. Now with the newest update its much worse. Nothing will stop Google Services from running constantly. I can't wait to get an upgrade at this point.

From what I've read on not just here, but for other phones...the usual culprit is location services via google now. The best way to test this is to turn off google now (which will just give you the standard pre jb google search) and see if that calms things down. If you want google now...try turning off location reporting in google''s location settings. Additionally, turn off syncing to things under the google account that you don't necessary need to sync constantly.

I kept reading more forum posts yesterday, and I am fairly confident that I found the correct answer for my phone. I've never had a problem before with the location services draining my battery. The culprit is the "OK Google" voice detection constantly listening. Ever since I turned that off, my battery usage has returned to normal. Immediately I noticed a difference in the phone's performance and the battery percentage didn't drain while I was watching it. This makes sense too with the timing of the update and my battery drain. KitKat brought this feature to the GS3 and that is precisely when my battery started to be sucked dry. Whereas before, Google services was listed as 40-60% of my battery usage, it's now down to 15%. The good thing with turning this off is I never used the feature, unlike location services that are baked into everything and actually useful to me. Thanks for the help.

[Q] "Android OS" hughe battery drain

Hi everyone,
These days the battery consumption of "Android OS" process has been quite high. Last days it has been around 30-40%, but today, it reaches the awesome figures of 70%.
I have francokernel-r32 (last one) which everyone reports it's a battery friendly kernel. Obviously I notice no difference between francokernel and stock because of the Android OS battery drain. Also I have the CM11s-R44 stock.
Other little details: I use Greenify, cleanmaster and Amplify to save battery and system resources. Localization is fully turned off (I don't need it) and using 2G and WiFi networks (I use 3G just for few minutes/seconds to download or surf the web).
The xposed modules I have installed: amplify, bootmanager, complete action plus, greenify, whatsapp quiet hours and youtube adaway. I think none of these can be suspicious of battery drain.
Any suggest? I have no idea on facing this problem...

Firstly, you say 'also I have CM11S-r44 stock', but you're not stock if you have Franco installed. Anyway, it could be Google Play Services that's causing the problems, have you tried this?

have you read the thread on r32 its been giving people some issues. May I suggest r31 and as previously mentioned are you running Google Now. I mean the the drain you see could be warranted. Also what the Keep Awake showing you? How bad is that

I'm going to piggy back off this thread. Android OS and Android System are killing my battery as well. I've turned off the Google Location Services keep awake and wake up (etc...as per Timmaa's thread), and I'm still getting a very large keep awake from Android System. Please see the attached screenshot.
Nothing else has been edited. I'm on 44R stock rooted.

I'm not really sure actually. I'm connected to WIFI around 80% of a given day so my guess would be yes.
Do you know of something that could be causing the drain, or is that just what happens when you're connected to WIFI?

I have this issue from time to time when connected to my home Wifi. You could try by turning off Wifi for some time.
Rebooting the Wifi AP or changeing channel helps for me in that case.
Is it a hidden network?

Nope it'd a public password protected network.

Very Slow/Inconsistent Notifications

Hi, so the simplest way of stating my problem is when my device is either unlocked (AKA browsing apps and whatnot with the screen on), or locked (sleeping), notifications are slow to arrive. Right now I've been testing with Skype, and Gmail, both of which are inconsistent. My OPO does not currently have a SIM card (haven't setup the plan yet), and I've tried with both LTE and Radio off (using *#*#4636#*#* on the phone info page)

Things I've tried:
With both LTE and Radio off (using *#*#4636#*#* on the phone info page)
Older Skype versions
Push Notification Fixer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer&hl=en)
Disabling Amplify by disabling the module in Xposed, and rebooting
Double checked that Greenify isn't touching Skype or anything related
I also have a Samsung Galaxy S3 that is using the stock ROM (Android 4.1.2) with root permission and a custom recovery. That is the device I've been using to test with. If I send a Skype or Gmail message from my OPO to the Galaxy, it takes 2-3 seconds EVERY TIME consistently.
If I send a Skype or Gmail message from the Galaxy to the OPO, sometimes I'll get the message within 3-5 seconds, other times it takes 1 minute+ and even a few messages don't arrive until I unlock the device and open Skype or Gmail.
When I leave Skype open, and lock my OPO, it seems to get the messages very quickly almost every time.
Also, it appears that when my phone sleeps for a certain period of time, seems inconsistent, the WiFi will disconnect - and I DO have keep WiFi on while phone is sleeping.
I've run out of ideas short of trying a full wipe and different rom/kernel/who knows what at this point...=\

Edit/Update: Found this post (http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/107023-cm12121-wifi-connectivity-issuesdrops-workaround-included/) on another forum, and that seems to have fixed it for me. Doing further testing, but so far positive results.

The delayed response is most probablye due to the Greenify/Amplify tweaks that you've made. Remove everything related to Gmail, Skype, Google Play Services from Greenify & Amplify and then test. Add back the tweaks one by one and find the culprit.

I've already tried that. Fully disabling Amplify, and double checking that I've touched nothing close to Skype or Gmail or Google Services in Greenify's settings.
As I put in the edit in my first post, I found out going to /system/etc/wifi/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and changing the line

appears to have solved the issue for me.
But when I did that, I also noticed something else, and I wish I hadn't unplugged my device (AKA wiping battery data so I could show a clear screenshot of what I mean), because I saw when I was looking at the battery usage chart, all day long while I had McastBcastFilter=3, my WiFi signal was turning on and off CONSTANTLY throughout the day, and sometimes for decently long periods. Now that I've changed McastBcastFilter=0, my WiFi signal shows that it's on 24/7 in my battery screen.
I'm worried that this is going to cost me a fair bit more battery, but at the same time I need my notifications.
I found another setting in that file with this comment:

Before I made any changes to this file, it was set to 3, which makes sense with the McastBcastFilter changes I made. But attempting to get some more battery life so my WiFi goes into some sort of partial power save mode for battery longevity, I'm going to try my OPO with Enable Deep Sleep on all day. We'll see how the battery fairs and if notifications are still delayed or not.
Edit: I was able to get the data from my secondary battery app so screenshots for all!

Obviously when the WiFi is off, I'm not getting my notifications. >=\

Well so far I haven't seem to have come across any issues with leaving BcastMcast at 0 and using Deep Sleep for WiFi. I'm still getting all my notifications, and as far as I can tell the battery life is give or take about the same. Possibly a little more battery drain than with BcastMcast on, but I haven't done any sleep tests yet, just initial observations with using OPO in a daily setting.

- N5 fully stock (bootloader locked and not root) with M 6.0.1 updated to last patch (February 2016)
- few apps (for example, I used Facebook in browser)
With a normal use of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp, mail, etc...I have a good battery response: over 2 hours of screen and during night, with only data disabled, batteria drops of 1/2%. In general, in standby, the consumption is near to zero...
...until I activate GPS: from this moment, even if disable it, there is an embarassing battery drain (1% in an hour). At the end of battery, before charge it, screen and apps are near to 4/5%.
The only temporary workaround is to reboot, because the problem reappears when I enable GPS.
I have tried all "solutions" proposed into forum:
- reinstallazione factory
- wipe
- GPS in device only
- disabled location history
- etc...
but the problem persists.
Any ideas?

and use it evey time after you turn off GPS or don't give permission to scan in background when you open Map after tuning off scan.

I have already follow the workarounds listed in that thread, but they are related only for WiFi bug...is it correct? If not, is there a specific change?

Apparently, wifi scan starts in background when we use Map/gps (i think Google asks permission for the same while 1st time setting up device)
and though it's related to wifi, it doesn't really require wifi to be ON for this drain ! It's little bit difficult for me to explain in words but if you see "wifi scan" ON in network tab in setting after using GPS (even through mobile data) turn it off and your battery will not drain away.
It happens to me many times after using navigation and above workaround always helps.

Hi Fabio.
My name is Dainis. I have the same problem. N5 I bought a year ago and immediately noticed that sometimes the battery discharges much faster. It took me a month to understand that that the cause in GPS. Without GPS, the phone in standby mode, can run for more than 2 weeks, but if previously used the navigation, then from the fully charged discharged in 3 days. The LG support center advised not to use GPS )). At the moment, my phone is in the warranty service for the sixth time (I'm very patient), but I doubt that they will be able to solve something. Maybe you have got to solve the problem?

Galaxy S7 Android System Battery Drain Same As Screen

I have seen this post many times before, but never got a solution to what I am looking for. My Galaxy S7 is about 2 years old now, and no problems with it, have just loved this phone. Recently, I started having a battery drain issue where Android System would use up large amounts of battery. I had this issue on Nougat, and I recently updated to Oreo and the issue isn't fixed. I have deeply looked across the internet on different ways to fix it, and I have tried everything. I have tried wiping cache partition, resetting app preferences, resetting settings, factory reset, clearing data and cache from Google services, turning off background usage for android system, installing Gsam and looking to see what's draining it there, turning off all services I'm not currently using (Location, NFC, Bluetooth, ETC), checking cell signal, turning off backup data for Samsung/Google, not leaving Wifi on in sleep, checking and ending unnecessary running services in developer options, disabling bloatware, and SO much more. Nothing has worked. I get around 3 hours Screen On Time, which I feel is unreasonable. Android system seems OK in the background, but It keeps at the same battery drain speed as the screen. (example: my screen has 13% battery drain, meaning that android system also claims 13%) sometimes it is a couple percent lower, and sometimes higher, but usually close to the same. My sister has a Galaxy S5, and when she uses down from a full charge the android system drain is 3% which is a lot different from what I get. My phone even has a bigger battery than hers, but her's has no problem with battery drain. This is the T-mobile S7, running Android Oreo. Please don't suggest power saving mode, or a lot of limiting options on the phone. What's the point of a SMART phone if I can't use all these neat very useful features? I would be better off with a flip phone if I was going for only calling and texts. Please help me find another solution that will fix my problem.
