Galaxy S6 Soft Brick - not recognized by any program - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
two days ago I tried to flash a new recovery (TWRP) and a new ROM on my Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F). I used Heimdall-Frontend 1.4.0 and also have Heimdall installed. Flashing the recovery perfectly worked, but when I tried flashing the boot.img, the process got up to about 30% and then said "FAILED!". Now my phone only shows a blue screen with this on it: "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software."
I can still get the phone into Download mode, but the problem is that neither Heimdall nor ADB does recognise my phone. "heimdall detect" gives "ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device." and "adb devices" gives just nothing at all, although the device is in Download mode and I have installed the latest drivers. I've tried it on other laptops as well but it didn't work.
What is also weird is that the phone immediately turns off when unplugging it from USB, even though it was charging for hours.
So what should I do now?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Failed upgrade to GB using kies, phone stuck at stock recovery mode. Please Help

i got a galaxy s 4g from t-mobile.
i rooted it using superoneclick.
it had stock froyo.
so i had stock rooted froyo.
i tried to upgrade it using kies mini.
it failed to upgrade. Emergency upgrade also failed.
now the phone is stuck in (what kies says) recovery mode.
it shows phone and computer symbol with a caution sign in between (triangle with exclamation mark)
i didnt have cwm recovery flashed in it
what should i do???
should i flash a stock rom using odin or heimdall???
if so, can anyone post links to any guides??? also which stock i should flash??
what i wanted to do was get MIUI on the phone.
but i couldnt even get to stock gingerbread, hence no proper bootloaders
i am new to galaxy s 4g, but have done a lot of flashing on htc desire
my phone is a paperweight right now, please help
all help is appreciated.
thank you
Follow second link (Heimdall One-Click For Dummies) in my signature. You'll be good to go. Since you were on Froyo last you WILL need to flash Bootloaders!
To add: You can't use Kies mini on a rooted phone. The "phone and computer symbol with a caution sign in between" is also Download Mode.
i am doing what you said. i read that thread before posting this thread also.
thank you for your help.
but i get stuck at the point where i need to get my phone in download mode.
my phone does not get into download mode as i also stated before.
it only goes into recovery mode as shown in the image.
the heimdall one click window does not open
but i do get the zadig window and can select the "samsung usb composite device"
i tried to use diferent usb ports and also used usb deview
still it says usb device not recognised or says usb device might not have installed properly
should i go ahead with replacing drivers in zadig window??
The screen you are describing is also a download mode. If you are having issues with the device being not recognized, I suggest uninstalling Kies & the related Samsung USB drivers. They tend to conflict with the open source drivers used by Heimdall (the ones installed by zadig).
One those are uninstalled, re-run the one-click. When the zadig window appears, install the Samsung USB Composite Device drivers. You should get a message that the drivers installed, then close the window, and you should be at the Heimdall window after that.
Do what Stephen said but also - do you not have one USB you have never plugged your phone in? Do you have a mouse plugged in that you can move to another port that you have yet to plug your phone in?

Well stephen - it appears his phone is back up and running. It took him until 5:30AM (central time for me). Just read my PM's.
Glad you are up and running kshitijgandhi.
I'm with ya...CST here too. I'm glad to hear he got it working. Dude, you've been cranking out awesome guides. Your commitment to the community is greatly appreciated.
Thanks stephen. Guides definitely help to be able to point people to when you don't have time to walk them through the process.

[Completed] [Q] Interrupted flashing process

Hello friends,
I was using a General Mobile etab4 tablet,
rooted,
bootloader locked,
not backed up, i tried but apps wont recognize the brand,
the stock rom is not available anywhere but I managed to find some custom ones.
This tablet is actually a given by government for educational purposes, and it has no download mode, I can only initiate recovery mode with volume up+power button combo, and there is no sd card in it.
Here is what happened. It was running with problems so I decided to flash a custom rom I find on this forum. First I tried flashing using adb sideload. I got an error message "Installation aborted" with no error codes after verification step but it does not state whether verification is failed or not. I don't know what actually failed. Then I tried to flash it using adb shell as root (the system image was in /sdcard directory). It freezed, I exit the shell using Ctrl+C command. Then whenever I try to start shell i got "error:closed" message. I see my device with adb devices with sideload, but it is not seen in fastboot devices.
When I try to open it, I guess it enters in a small boot loop (screen flickers multiple times with brand name on it) and after some time I got dead android with no command written.
I tried,
reflashing it again with Android AIO Flasher,
use fastboot to unlock bootlader (it says "waiting for device") although adb devices sees it,
re-installing the adb drivers after uninstalling them,
disassembling the device to see if I can detach memory to edit it and to see if disconnecting the battery helps,
I even used a simple jig to see if i can initiate download mode (know it works for specific devices but you know hope)
Apparently, I messed up the device but the hardware must be all fine. So I think there must be a way out. What can you suggest, I wish I have unlocked the bootloader. I can send the pictures of its motheboard it helps,
Thanks in advance.

[Completed] Possible Bricked Phone, Need Help (SM-G920W8, Android 5.1.1)

After trying to flash a kernel onto my Canadian S6 (SM-G920W8, Android 5.1.1), it failed in Odin. I closed Odin, so i do not have the error message unfortunately, and my phone is stuck in 'An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software.' I tried going back into download mode, however the screen simply turns black before coming back to the same error screen. Also tried connecting to it via both Kies 3 and smart switch, however my device was not recognized by either of the programs. My PC is also giving me the error message 'The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.' I tried to launch Odin to flash the stock firmware onto the device. Odin recognizes the phone as connected, but the attempt failed to work once i tried to flash it and there is an almost filled progress bar on my phone underneath the error message. If anyone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated, as this phone is crucial in my daily life.

Using Odin to fix bricked Samsung

Hi
I discovered my Samsung S III stuck on the Samsung screen. I have done all that was suggested but still no luck. It was suggested for me to use Odin to flash it with the original Android system. I read the instructions. I am very new to this. I have Kies my computer. When I plug my wifes phone in it sees it when I plug mine in it says installing drivers then fails. Even if I use Odin will the computer recognize my phone or is it a lost cause?
TIA

look up how to put your S3 into download mode and try Odin it should work if you have the current Odin and firmware files ready and correct USB drivers installed. I have a newer Samsung so I only use Odin, but I make sure it's in download mode first...

You must place your phone in download mode, simultaneously press the keys, volume up, home, and on, a screen with the android logo will appear, press the volume key up and enter download mode, then with the odin already open and the File of the original rom loaded, connect the usb cable to your phone and start downloading the rom to the phone .. :good:
The following links is a little Helper with a video on how to enter Download Mode on a Galaxy S3.

ODIN sees Samsung tablet but ADB does not recognize any devices listed

So Im running into a weird issue that I've never before experienced. I have an SM-T320 tablet and it currently has no OS installed. It was wiped via TWRP. After wipe completed, by tablet restarted abruptly and, ever since, has not gone past the splash screen. I tried entering recovery mode again many times and each time it failed.
My light at the end of the tunnel is download mode, which I've managed to enter. My tablet is currently in download mode, and ODIN sees it (I've attached a couple pictures). I managed to even follow this thread and my tablet restarts when ODIN finished but, again, does not go past the splash screen.
When I query all attached devices with `adb devices` command, it doesnt display it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.. I dont know what's going on. I've installed a variety of different drivers of different versions from a variety of different sources. Results are the same -- ODIN sees device, ADB doesnt.
Here are the images

All three links don't help me because ADB does not list my device, which is the core problem. If I could just get ADB to recognize my device, I can run an `adb reboot recovery` and solve my problem that way.. but alas I can't get ADB to see my tablet. This is so odd to me.. it cannot be a driver issue because ODIN sees my device.
Solved my issue by flashing firmware on device.
my problem is the opposite , My amazon fire hd 7 9th gen is recognized in adb as devices, but it is not recognized in odin I tried both use mtp (windows 10 driver), and the kindle fire stock driver, but still not detected in odin and still recognized somehow in adb. some help would be nice
Samsung Odin is a very lightweight and easy-to-use Stock ROM flashing tool for the Samsung Galaxy line of devices including Samsung smartphones and tablet devices.
