Using Odin to fix bricked Samsung - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I discovered my Samsung S III stuck on the Samsung screen. I have done all that was suggested but still no luck. It was suggested for me to use Odin to flash it with the original Android system. I read the instructions. I am very new to this. I have Kies my computer. When I plug my wifes phone in it sees it when I plug mine in it says installing drivers then fails. Even if I use Odin will the computer recognize my phone or is it a lost cause?
TIA

look up how to put your S3 into download mode and try Odin it should work if you have the current Odin and firmware files ready and correct USB drivers installed. I have a newer Samsung so I only use Odin, but I make sure it's in download mode first...

You must place your phone in download mode, simultaneously press the keys, volume up, home, and on, a screen with the android logo will appear, press the volume key up and enter download mode, then with the odin already open and the File of the original rom loaded, connect the usb cable to your phone and start downloading the rom to the phone .. :good:

The following links is a little Helper with a video on how to enter Download Mode on a Galaxy S3.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500) won't connect to PC!

I've tried a few other forums but haven't got any replies, I guess since the Galaxy 5 isn't such a popular device. I figured if there's anyone who can help me they will be here though.
I wanted to put CWM on it so I could get a CM7 port on. Unfortunately it's just about impossible for it to get detected on USB. I've installed Kies (and even the generic USB drivers found in the SDK). In 2 days I only got it to connect once, and then I went and bricked it.
The one time it finally connected I ran Odin and tried loading CWM onto it. It still hadn't finished after half an hour so I figured it ended with an error that was never displayed. So I unplugged it and as expected - brick! I can get into download (upgrade/firmware) mode so I think it can be fixed if I can get CWM on it (and just install the CM7 port I had originally intended to put on).
Problem is I cannot get the darn thing to connect! to my computer I've tried two separate PCs, one running Window 7 x64 and another running XP x32. Is there a a certain process of connecting things? I haven't ran across anyone making mention of one.
Has anyone else experienced USB problems like this with Samsung phones? Would it even be possible to flash CWM on after it's been bricked like this? When I boot (normally) all I get is an image showing a phone and a PC with and exclamation error connecting the two. Please help!
Try to look for stock firmware on the forum.xda-developers.com and flash via ODIN. You need to be able to put the phone into download mode, so maybe get an USB jig. That should do the trick. Odin has to recognize your phone. First of all right click on the ODIN executable and select "Run as administrator" on windows. Plug the phone in the DL mode and wait until it appears as active in Odin. Then flash the ROM and pit file. (Don't use ODIN one click). If ODIN does not recognize your phone try a different USB port or reinstall Kies. The Kies trick was which I used and it was able to recognize my phone.
Thanks, martin0176. I can still manage to get the phone into download mode - it's getting recognized by a PC that's the problem.
Could you tell me more about the pit file? I only have an ops file.
Try a different cable. I was having the same problem on the Samsung Continuum and it turned out that the cable was working for power, but not for data.

Problem during the root of Samsung Galaxy S2

Hi everyone,
I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy following the guide from xda developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334).
I forgot to enable the USB debugging mode on the device (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging)
I started ODIN, then my device rebooted. I started SuperOneClick and I received a message saying "device not found".
Then I went to check the guide, and I saw that I forgot to enable the USB debugging mode on the device (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging).
Can anyone help me to fix this?
I'm from Portugal. If I wrote anything wrong sorry for my mistake and for any inconvenience.
Thank you for any help.
Not sure if you're just having problems with Odin recognizing your phone or not but the basics are to ensure you have the phones drivers installed and enable usb debugging. Afterwards you make sure your phone gets recognized fully from your computer once plugging it in. If so you start Odin AND THEN plug in your phone with the directions for getting to download mode (removing battery and holding volume button etc) and in Odin it should show a connection on a com port tile. Then you load up your files and send them. If anything I am sure you just may have a problem by not being in download mode?

Do you have the latest drivers? Have you killed all KIES apps?

I have the latest drivers from my cell phone operator. I can only have access to Kies on my pc (but now, kies doesn't recognize any device plugged to the pc), my phone don't let me gain access to the menu and to any application.
Get into download mode and go into keis and start a firmware upgrade and initialization. (you will need model number and serial number behind the battery) and go through the process it tells u to. Then you will be back to stock, then try to root from there the proper way.

You could find a stock ROM first (depends on where you bought your phone / country, provider) and flash through Odin. Unplug your phone from your PC > task manager > kill all KIES apps > turn on your phone into download mode > open ODIN > connect phone to PC
Then ODIN should show your phone is connected with a yellow box, depending on what ROM you downloaded you put the needed file in the PDA box (file with the name such as I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3_HOME.tar.md5), click START and wait until that box goes from yellow to green. Phone should reboot now. If it gets stuck, get into the recovery mode (Vol UP + home + power) and wipe everything.

[Completed] HELP me unbrick my GT-I9300

Hello xda members
I have an GT-I9300 device which stucks on TWRP Recovery (teamwin logo excatly) and flashes about after 4 or 5 seconds.
No twrp options , my pc doesnt react when i plug in my phone , only download mode available and an SD Card.
Can i unbrick my phone or not ?
Hello,
Yes, you can flash your stock firmware through Odin 3.10 and fix your device. Look in the thread linked below for instructions, if the download link for your stock firmware is dead then try going to Sammobile.com and search for your stock firmware using your model number GT-I9300, download it and then follow the instructions below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/restore-to-stock-rom-galaxy-s3-i9300-t2187081
Good luck.
styno said:
Hi,
you can recover the GT-I9300 completely with Samsung's own Kies. It will ask for the serial number of the phone and will download all files needed and flash it for you.
You'll end up with a complete stock phone (but with latest modem )
Good luck!

Power the device off (pull the battery, then put the battery back in), then hold VOL DOWN + HOME KEY + POWER KEY
Once in download mode plug into your PC. Also make sure that you have the Samsung drivers installed. Check your device manager on your PC to make sure Windows is seeing the device.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (p5100)
In my computer im using windows 10 pro, and adb device is not regonized.
What I neeed to do to get pasted that error?
Thanks for the help!
There is nothing to worry.
It is easy to solve this.
Just download Odin in your pc.
Download the official firmware if your device here.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-P5100/
Now open Odin In pc
Connect your device to the pc .
Now in the app under PDA browse for the firmware you have downloaded and click start.
Wait till it says pass.
That's it you have successfully solved your problem.
Now it will take some time to boot.
In case you feel that you are in a bootloop just go to recovery and perform a factory reset .
Odin download http://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.10.6.zip

Greetings;
I don't know if you already entered Download Mode...
Most problems accessing Recovery and Download Modes are due to having the USB Cable connected.
Remove the cable; press the key combination; and it will boot.
(Except if there's some incompatible ROM flashed by mistake).
After that plug the USB Cable again (if your USB Drivers have also installed for Download Mode) Odin will recognize it (like shown in your Screen Shot).
REMEMBER:
While Flashing do NOT Remove USB Cable, untill Odin Displays "Pass" message.

I need help with an old samsung galaxy mini GT-S5570

Hello. i think i bricked my phone by trying to update from micro sd with an update for a different version. It can only go into download mode and recovery mode. I treid to follow other guides using Odin to try and fix it but when i connect the phone in download mode to the PC, Odin does not register this. There is nothing wrong with the cable or USB port either. The phone does register though in recovery mode, but nothing happens during this. Please let me know what I should do.
edit: another thing, i also tried using samsung kies to do the same thing, but the phone gets stuck on connecting and doesnt go any further
also, is it actually possible for this phone to run android 4.0+? or did I just ruin a perfectly good phone.
Thanks, adz09
was time to send it to rest, btw did you try installing samsung smart switch then use odin to try to flash the firmware?
