Okay so I’m purchasing a phone, and I’m stuck between the HTC Desire and the Nexus One. They both are very similar yet so different and it’s making my decision very hard. So hard in fact, I’ve between contemplating this decision for about two weeks. So, below are the pros and cons for me of both phones and their importance in my life. I know I should go with what seems the best overall, but I want opinions from people that have owned the phone and have actually used them on a daily basis. I really don’t want to make the wrong decision because I’ve gone through 5 phones in the past 4 months because I wasn’t satisfied.
HTC DESIRE PROS
High Priority:
-Overall design is very attractive in my opinion
Medium Priority:
-HTC Sense
-64 MB more RAM than the Nexus One
-Comes in several colors (Black, Silver, Brown)
-Hardware Keys
-Optical Track Pad
-Chin
Low Priority:
-About $75-100 cheaper than the Nexus one for me.
NEXUS ONE PROS
High Priority:
-Back cover easy to take on/off
-More support from case makers
-Faster updates and most likely a future past Froyo
Medium Priority:
-AT&T 3G (my carrier)
-Will arrive quicker
Low Priority:
-Trackball colors
-Speech to text
HTC DESIRE CONS:
High Priority:
-Questionable whether it will receive updates past Froyo
-Slower updates
-Back cover I hear is hard to take off
-Barely any support from case makers (I’m a case-mate and Otter box fanatic)
Low Priority:
-No AT&T 3G
NEXUS ONE CONS:
Medium Priority:
-No HTC Sense
Low Priority:
-More expensive
-Trackball not track pad
If you can suggest my another AT&T 3G Android phone that's better than above be my guest.
You should consider the Xperia X10, it should fit well with your highest priority. The only thing it doesn't have is multi-touch, but that's something you can get over with.
It looks better, imo, and now since it's rooted, it is capable of getting Froyo.
Edit:
Xperia X10a supports AT&T 3G.
Also, you can load HTC Sense on the Nexus One through flashing a custom rom.
I think you would like the Nexus one better. A very big reason being the 3G. Im not sure where you live but edge is TERRIBLE where i live. Its not even worth having. As the guy above me stated you can get sense on the N1 by flashing Modaco desire rom.
I owned both and the only thing I did not like about the Desire is...lack of accessories
Now before you start saying "You live in the dark ages"...hear me out. I tried the Desire on both T-Mobile and AT&T. The speed I got on EDGE with AT&T was very fast, if not the same speed as using my N1 & iPhone 3GS. 3G might be nice, but it is a major drain on the battery. EDGE speed can be pretty reasonable if you live in an area that has good AT&T network bands. If you can catch Wifi, even better.
Speaking of hardware and build, I prefer hard buttons over the capacitive buttons of the Nexus. For some reason, even if I pressed directly on the button...it would not respond. I realized that you had to press a little above the button for it to respond. Also, the Desire has a Hero-like chin that contours to your hand and makes handling the phone a little easier. The battery cover on the Desire has a rubbery coating that gives it a sticky grip.
As far as removing the back battery-cover, it is really simple. The battery cover for the Nexus didn't feel secure like the Desire's did. Granted you have to use a finger nail to pry it off, the back cover for the Desire actually felt more secure once "snapped" into place.
Software wise, The N1 can be flashed with a Desire Rom to look like the Desire. The Desire can be loaded with a Home/Launcher alternative or flashed with a "sense-less" Rom so the decision is personal preference. From now on I am going with nothing but Sense. Some people complain that it is nothing but "bloated" software that slows the phone down. After owning the MT3G, N1 and Desire...Sense UI just looks nicer and integrates better with apps and widgets. I wouldn't be so worried about OTA updates. The good thing about using Android phones is that when updates do come out, developers here and at other forums will be quick to adapt them to Roms that are compatible with our phones.
I never tried the Xperia X10. If I had the cash and was still on a GSM network, I would have probably tried it. All I can do is just give my opinion on the Nexus and Desire
Thanks. I'm leaning towars the desire more. If I did get either I wouldn't flash a custom rom on them. Most likely only root. Another question, when you turn sense off on the desire, does it have that sliding drawer or the same launcher as the nexus?
I do not think you can disable Sense on the Desire. If I am correct, with the EVO you can disable it (or were able to until the update came out yesterday).
However, your best bet would be to check out the Desire section here and see if any progress has been made as far as disabling the UI.
If you are determined to use something other then Sense, you can look into one of the Home/Launcher alternatives that are on the market
I don't know how it is where you come from but here in PA (USA) the difference between EDGE and 3g is HUGE. I get around 75kbps on EDGE and well over 1000kbps on 3g. 3g is easily 10x faster then EDGE. That alone is reason enough to get a phone that supports your carriers 3g.
And lets be honest the two phones are so close that that you will most likely be happy with either so why not get the one that gives you 3g?
Its not out in the US for a week or two but i would go for the Dell Streak is more of a small android tablet and the bonus is its a phone as well, but every one have there own ideas so its up to you buddy

Um yea...sounds sort of familiar
Don't get the nexus one, I had it for awhile. The Major problem with it is the touch sensitivity buttons. There are really annoying you have to press them at the right way or they will not work. So, I would say go with desire if 3G isn't a problem.

This was one of the problems I had. Trust me, I wasn't a first-batch buyer either. I waited it out a few months, so the unit I had was in excellent condition.
I received mine yesterday and after playing about with it I'm really liking it. I told T-mobile I wasn't too sure about the phone as I know that there will be bigger phones coming out soon so they will phone back Monday to see if I want to send it back.
From a female point of view, the phone is the perfect size to carry around in my hand bag, I have had the hero since Dec 09 and it was the first phone that i rooted and I didn't lose interest in it throughout the time I had it as there were so many roms to flash.
I know this phone will get rooted once the s-off thing is sorted so will be able to flash roms onto it, I'm not a massive gamer so I guess phones like sensation will be a waste on me and the wi'fi issue on the ds isn't too big as i don't tend to use it landscape unless playing a game.
So far the desire s is really smooth, i'm enjoying able to use so many functions which I wasn't able to use on the gingerbread roms for hero.
So are you happy that you chose the desire S?
i would like to hear about others views too
as i still didn't get my phone (its getting really annoying)
well if you have nothing to say you might as well shut up
dont you think so?
@shanz, dual cores are not only for gaming
they are considerably faster, you have hdmi out capability better battery life
i would be satisfied with a single core if it would be priced under a dual core
anyway the price is coming down slowly, i saw it today for 400E
I like it. My full review at the following URL:

I've had mine for a few days now. My first Android phone, so I can't really compare it to anything other than my old iPhone 3G. I love it. Besides dropping the Wi-Fi if I hold it a bit weird, it's perfect for me.
Very satisfied Desire S user here.
Love the size, built quality, very fast, capable camera and much improved battlife compared to ol'Desire.
Really MASSIVE problems in germany
some people are at their 5th return
the problem is that the glass is too small and there is a big gap between it and the metal
also the battery cover leaves open places for some people

I come from nexus one, wich again a very very good device! Hard for me to leave it away. Now about desire s:
1. Super quality of build, the aluminium feel and beint well compressed by size just makes it perfect.
2. Was amazed about screen quality, did not expected that at all!
3. Video call camera good quality! Beats my brothers galaxy S video call camera!
The downsides are few, first being that i allways have a luck on taking faulty phones,my volume locker up is very sensitive, small presure activates it,and the button clicks normal.
Other than that is sense ui wich i like it in some ways, but cyanogen is snapier and i really wait for that root and custom recovery!
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
My first Android phone. coming from WM6.5 (custom Roms)
Love it so far....the feel, the weight, the screen size all perfect for me.
Wi-fi issue doesn't bother me, as don't use phone in landscape.
Can't wait for them to sort S-OFF/root
Phone like Sensation simply too big! plus I don't game on the phone....so don't need the dual core.
Desire S was exactly what I was waiting for: an up to date version of a nearly flawless phone with excellent performance, aesthetics & overall build.
Picked out this creature (coming from an HD mini) to jump the Android bandwagon & have been in a permanent jawdrop ever since.
I don't know maybe in your location the phones are with that wifi problem, mine has no such problem, covered it all in my palm all i could lose was 1 lin in wifi and sometimes even nothing on 3g.It's weird about that problem, yet i have none regarding that.
I got mine last Friday as a replacement for the original Desire. Love it so far, the size, the design it's really all very nice. Definitely feels faster and smoother than the previous Desire. Loving the gig of space for apps over the measily hundred something megs that the original Desire had.
I do notice the wifi drop out when held in landscape, so for those that do a lot of browsing over wifi this might be a show stopper.
Only other thing is that even though I know it uses a gorilla glass, I can't help but feel naked without a screen protector on it.
I got mine last Friday to replace my Nexus One. I've been using the Desire S exclusively since then and I like it, I don't have any issues with WiFi or anything else. I have to admit that the screen is usually better (damn Pentile matrix), except at night or under direct sunlight.
I don't like the Micro USB on the left side, when it's plugged the cable gets in the way or twists in strange positions. I don't like that it doesn't have a trackball, even an optical one. However it does have a notification LED, unlike many other smartphones out there (Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S, LG Optimus 2X, etc.) The touchpad sensor seems to work fine (whoo! ), all common gestures work, including rotation in Google Maps. Opening the battery cover is a pain, maybe I just don't get it, but it took me a while just to plug my SIM card.
Not a huge improvement, but it works better on some of the areas where I had most trouble (internal storage was the main problem for me).
I love the speed, size, build quality and battery life
My only complaint is that i cannot run custom roms (yet)
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Got it for the missus as a birthday present today. I have the original desire.
First impressions are good, though pulling down the notifications window was somehow not as easy on the dS. Kept missing it. And then when you do pull it down, the settings Tab that HTC has added is a little awkward to switch to succesfully without rolling up the notifications window. Could just be practice.
Can i ask - is it possible to install a different launcher on a HTC sense phone? (i rooted my desire s to an AOSP rom, so never tried this)
I'd like to put laucherpro or Zeam on there for her as they feel snappier and the docks are a huge improvement.
You can install any launcher you want, there is no need to root it. I have ADW.Launched (and not rooted). But you'll loose the ability to have the HTC Widgets (if you care about them).

How can one get their hands on an s-off Desire S?
Thanks
-Barry
Just got my desire S today, upgraded from HTC legend. I'm blown away by the built and quality of the handset's construction. Only had it for a couple of hours, performance is great. No problem with WiFi so far, I had it connected to WPA2 secured WiFi-G. Love the new sense 3 UI, shortcuts to enable/disable WiFi/bluetooth..etc
The handset was also S-ON, can't wait for a new exploit to root it and even S-OFF the better. Hoping to install miui once custom rom is possible.
I've had this phone for about 10 days now and I'm coming from a GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 which I still love and adore. Having said that I've decided I'm keeping this phone because like with everything while not perfect, the benefits to it outweigh the downsides. Here's my take:
Things I love about One X:
- Screen is spectacular and best I've ever seen yet. Puts Nexus to shame. Hard going back to Nexus after using the One X
- Camera - best camera I've ever used on any mobile device yet. Not just optics but the software is fantastic. Love the burst mode/best shot, HDR actually does something, panaroma, etc. Especially coming from Nexus, it's a HUGE improvement
- LTE - yes it eats battery like nothing else but god damn it's fast and it's glorious. My first cell phone didn't have data and the first one with data had GPRS (not even EDGE) so the fact I can be standing somewhere and get 25mbps down is just mind boggling. Love it.
- CPU - the S4 is a beast, I have a PS Vita and an iPad3 so I don't need my phone to be a gaming powerhouse but this thing flies. Noticeably faster for me in many apps than the Nexus and web browsing is desktop class. I can even leave Flash to always on and I don't even notice! Definitely future proof for at least another year.
- Build quality - superb and feels very solid. NO creaking and it's light but does not feel cheap. Galaxy Nexus feels great too but still feels cheaper and flimsy compared to One X. I have the white one and it looks very very nice.
- Bluetooth 4.0 - had some problems on stock ROM (related to wifi I think) but with 1.82 it's very stable and works great. Future proofing for newer devices coming now with 4.0. I'm a big Bluetooth user so nice having the latest spec.
Things I really don't like about the One X:
- Sense 4.0 - yes it's better than previous ones (I had an Incredible and a Sensation) but it's still a piece of crap. Unnecessary UI animations and changes just for the fact they want to change things. YES there are nice little tweaks they've done but those are for me the ones under the hood and not really UI ones. The memory management/multitasking thing is a great example of one gone wrong but for me personally, I LOVE stock ICS and I can't wait for an unlocked bootloader so I can run a stock AOKP ROM on it.
- WiFi - although the 1.82 RUU seems to have fixed it somewhat, it's still flaky. I have to have "best wifi performance" checked otherwise notifications don't always come through when phone is asleep.
- Battery life - I guess I can't be too hard on it because of the screen, CPU and LTE but it still is quite unpredictable. It's NOT BAD but it's not great for me yet either. I'm sure I'll get it to a point where it'll be reliable but right now it seems all over the place.
- Power button - why in god's name do the morons at HTC stick the power/sleep button on the top of the phone when every other manufacturer has realized it's more logical to put it on the side. Especially on a 4.7" phone!! Idiots. This is annoying but I can live with it.
- Wide phone - the screen is only .5 " bigger than the Nexus but the phone is much wider in my hand and not as comfortable but not a deal breaker for me.
- AT&T Crapware - can be disabled but irritating they loaded it up with so much garbage.
- NO Google Wallet support - I MISS THIS the most from Nexus. I have a Citi card setup and used it a ton daily but now I can't
There is probably more but these are the highlights. So yes, the phone is far from perfect but I'm not getting rid of my Nexus so I will still have that. This phone has what I'm looking for which is the camera, screen, network and cpu that beats my current phone...so I'll look past the other stuff that bothers me - at least until I can flash stock ICS on it.

Just went back to my Nexus for a bit and I have to keep brightness at 50%. Anything less and the Nexus display hurts my eyes after spending time with the OneX. However software wise it feels so good.
Keeping the OneX but so so happy to have a Nexus I can take a break and go back to.

im actually starting to miss my gnex.
If i could get my boot loader unlocked and load a stock ics rom on it id change my mind.
Not a word about lack of multitasking? Really? IMO it's overweights every con you've listed all together...If just this not going to be fixed in next 20 days, I'm returning it.
And then only 10gb of space for all the apps to install and 8mp camera with 1080p video compatibility? And 600mb of user accessible RAM?
I think you got to get your priorities straight
Regarding the power button, I've owned 7 phones so far, different manufactures and all of them had power button on top. Doesn't bother me a single bit.
However the volume buttons placed on the opposite side of 3.5 jack is a bad design, because with this configuration you can't access them when the phone in the belt pouch. The 3.5 jack kind of forcing the pouch being on left side, making the buttons be at the bottom.

Its annoying but not a huge issue for me yet. I also plan on rooting soon and customizing. I believe part of the issue is the minfree setting which you should be able to edit with root. Also it can't be far off before custom ROMs based on AOSP will be out. Just waiting for the boot loader to be unlocked.

Have not experienced LTE yet, but I am on "4G" here in Utah. We will get LTE by the end of the year I guess.
The screen on this thing is down right beastly. Just amazing. Compared to my iPhone 4s, damn.
I don't mind the multitasking to be honest coming from an iPhone where I never used it. It suites me fine.
Camera isn't great, I don't believe as good as the iPhone 4s, but still one of the best I have seen so far.
So far battery life I get around 16 hours, not bad, but not great.
Phone quality is there as well. No complaints from me.
I guess the only downside so far for me is the google wallet. I was really wanting to use that when switching over to android. Hopefully it will happen via att or root at some point.

I can't see any trouble with the One X in anyway. Multitasking if your asking me.... I switch between 2 or 3 apps at the most. I don't do gaming with it. Mostly use it for processing capacity and some programing, emails, sms, whatsapp, im+, documents to go etc... I don't use any of the stock application and most of the stock/htc apps are disabled. I've installed what I needed to operate the phone and software. Space wise... geez I have plenty of space left 6GB left after loading nearly 120 mp3's on. As if anyone is going to go through that amount in just a few days... I swap my music every month or so and never seem to be a problem. I have e nearly 3000 pictures on top of that....
I'm really wondering if it's most just because people are whining then actually having issues... just because it doesn't fit their tiny little needs... Almost also seems like you want your hand held phone to replace your desktop/laptop PC... well unless they have better batteries in the future.
LTE is great don't get me wrong but unless I'm going to transfer a large file... it's disabled just because it kills the battery. With just 4G on I can get roughly 27hrs worth of juice. I'm quite happy with that.

I guess your the only one on here that doesn't have a multitasking issue. Congratulations on talking down on everyone who isn't satisfied with their device. I guess my "tiny little needs" don't matter.

If the way they do multitasking on this phone has any influence on the very strong battery life, then I can deal with it just fine.

Hey that's fine but they should give us the option under the development menu. I don't need my battery to last forever. I have an office with a phone charger. I'm not worried about getting 22+ hours of battery life.

More options = more confusion. You must remember, we are all like experts with android phones here on xda. Usually people are still learning how to answer a phone call on day 3 of their first smart phone, let alone an android. The wonderful part about android, and this site, is that you'll get custom roms with that option sooner rather than later. If HTC decided this was the way they wanted multitasking to improve battery life, they are going to stick with it. Being able to say the phone lasts longer than an iphone to a potential buyer is much more beneficial to sales to the common person then "it multitasks better."

I appreciate OP for bringing up such a post, as i feel that the HTC One X is really a great phone (its actually perfect for me!)
Unlike others, i never see most of the commonly faced problems on the forum while using my One X.
Here are the reasons i like the One X
1. SCREEN : No doubt the best screen ever.
2. BUILD Quality is superb and the design is sleek which i like. I dont ming the unibody design or the non-expandable memory/battery.
3. BATTERY : My phone gets me through a day with heavy use easily and by the time i charge it for the night i usually have 30% charge remaining, thats almost 16 hrs with moderate - heavy usage ( temple run, reddit, voice calls etc etc). Also i am in an area with LTE. I hardly notice the drain in battery bcoz of LTE. (my wifi and data are on all the time)
4. CAMERA : has tonnes of options and better than most cell phone cameras today.
MULTI-TASKING : i have never faced any issue with it. if i exit the game (using home button), then it resumes back at the same point. Likewise, for the other apps.
Wi-Fi : Again, i never faced any issues, i have always received the emails etc promptly (maybe not immediately, but the delay isnt significant enough for me to worry. Maybe 2-3 mins max)
SENSE : This is the only thing i dont like on my phone. would've loved a stock ICS experience.
In the end, am extremely happy with my phone, as i feel its a beautiful premium hardware.
Does this phone work well with US carriers? Mainly ATT? And how does everyone like the device? I'm coming from the essential phone ph-1 and would love to hear input on the 7 pro.
Thanks!
Been using this phone on AT&T (Boston area) since last June and it works flawlessly. Just put my SIM in, and it worked without a hitch. Pretty much the same experience with my last phone, which was the OnePlus 3T, which I had for 2 years.
7 Pro is a great phone. Really fast and smooth with the (at the time it was released) top of the line Snapdragon processor and 90 Hz screen. You get flagship performance for a much lower price than a Samsung or iPhone (okay, XDA users aren't really the type to buy iPhones - but you see where I'm coming from). The camera on those other phones might be a bit better. But really, you're getting 95% of the phone quality for a much lower price.
Just as important, the OS is really clean. Close to a stock Android feel, with a few (mostly useful and inobtrusive) added features. OP devices tend to be root friendly, and enjoy great developer and community support here on XDA.
One quibble is the curved screen edges. More flash than function. I feel like OnePlus was trying to make it look like the Samsung screens. But it occasionally makes it difficult and awkward to tap on things near the screen edge. It's a pretty minor thing. But enough to make me wish the phone had a flat screen, instead of curved edges.
Another minor comment (can't even call it a quibble really) is the pop-up selfie camera. It does allow the screen to be completely without any camera notch or cut-out. But some folks have been concerned about long term durability. Unless you are taking tons of selfies, I don't see it as much of any issue. Although if you use face unlock (which I do), you do have to wait for it to pop up and down. It happens pretty fast. But face unlock takes maybe a second (perhaps less) longer than my old 3T due to this (since that phone didn't have to pop a camera up). If you use the fingerprint unlock, this isn't a thing at all, of course. And the pop-up camera does make for a good party gimmick!

This phone works fine
I'm using a OnePlus 7 pro Tmobile brand
I used a international rom which allows 2 Sim cards and I believe unlocks it to be used with other carriers
The device is very snappy, before the international rom flash it would boot in like 2 seconds
After I unlocked it the stupid integrity warning slows down the boot by like 10-30 seconds
The phone has one of the best benchmarks for any phone if not the best still.
Camera pop up is pretty fast and snappy
Updates were frequent until all the fuss about cornavirus started.
Issues - currently blackscreen when opening several game applications including
Clash of clans
Old school runescape
Cod mobile
And others.
But on earlier versions it was fine.
Other complaints that shouldn't effect much on the use of the phone.
System is locked making debloat ING harder then needs to be (Google apps are trash 99% of the time)
Custom Rom updates seem to be slow
Magisk roms seem to not always work
Wiping system makes the entire phone useless until you use the msm tool to re-upload your phones software
Could have Alot more tweaks and functionality if OnePlus added them (navigation bar specifically is limited, I don't use recent button I use it as a menu button)
Bloatware by Google. (I'd prefer to install what I want not be forced to use what they implement)
Overall I give this phone a 8/10 rating.
Would be 10/10 if they actually lived by their motto.
Its Alot to read but worth the time. (unless I don't make any sense then sorry)
I'm using my US unlocked model with Visible and Google fi. I was using VZW until I changed to Visible. No problems.

I have the 7 Pro 5G, running on Sprint, bootloader unlocked and sim unlocked, definitely the best phone I've ever owned, I came from the LG V40 immediately prior, and the Pixel XL series before that, I also did breifly own the Essential phone,
-the 90Hz display is downright the absolute best screen I've ever had on any phone ever.
-256 gigabytes of storage is more than enough for me
-I have yet to encounter any tasks that caused any small amount of lag even.
-the cameras arent amazing, but they're decent, better than the essential.
-the pop up camera feature definitely is better than a notch and it's also just fun to watch it go up and down.
Overall this phone is 10/10, Just wish they cared more about the 5G variants and updated them faster...

I'm definitely gonna buy this phone when I get the cash, but noticed there's a few variants. Chinese, international unlocked and US. The US one is the one i know will work in the US but what about the international unlocked? I just don't want to have to spend the extra money if I don't have to

I can only speak for the version I bought, which is the US unlocked version.
Currently using the Xperia XZ2C and looking to upgrade either to the Xperia 5 II or divest from Sony and try the One Plus 9. I'm not thrilled about what people are saying about its quirks as well, and my experience with the Motorola Edge left a bad taste for me when it comes to curved screens.
I love the form factor of this phone and features, but I'm concerned about the bugs I'm seeing mentioned. I was all Sony until this year when I decided to get a new Xbox over the PS5. Unfortunately before I made that decision I had already gotten a new Sony TV (X900h) & Soundbar (ST-HT5000). The TV has a lot of software problems in the updates and it's concerning to see here that Sony's buggy Android software continues across multiple devices.
I've been using Xperia phones for the last several years, with a few attempts to try other devices. My experience was so lackluster with them that I ended up repairing my XZ2C to continue to use over the last year.
So, those with regular bugs, would you get this device today? The 5 iii is nowhere to be found for me and not worth it IMHO. What would have been your alternative?

I actually really enjoyed this phone, camera is quirky but great when you get used to it, the form factor is perfect, SD card, nice display etc etc.
What I couldn't stand is the proximity sensor didn't seem to work that well so when I was on the phone I'd end up muting myself or random pressing all sorts of buttons with my face. Also, the reception got worse and worse to the point where it was basically unusable for me, such a shame as I liked everything about it but the clue is in the name, a SmartPHONE. As that, it was terrible.
I've moved on to a Pixel 6 and despite the size difference it's a lovely bit of kit.
I enjoy the Xperia 5 II because I enjoy taking photos. I'm quite deaf and rarely use the phone and never accept phone calls. I used text messaging a lot. Mostly, I run some apps like Keep, Maps, and Photos and I have two dictionaries I use. I've had no bugs.
I'm really happy with my 5 II. Not really seen any bugs. Fingerprint reader is hit and miss but nothing else really i could think of as a bug. Poor flashlight though! Definitely pleased I bought it though.
My 5ii got trapped between the car and the door and had to be replaced. (It looks like a banana but screen did not crack and it works fine on the desk).
The 5ii was more or less out of stock at that time and I did not bother to get a used phone. I got a OnePlus 8T for half the price of the available 5ii, so I went with that.
I would have preferred the 5ii in general, but there are good and bad.
The phones are quite similar, introduced about the same time with similar SOC.
OP9 is very similar to OP8T, some parts are better, other are not.
Pros for the 5ii:
* Easier to handle, can hold with one hand
* Lighter, more comfortable to hold.
* Sidesense (no built in alternative for OP before Android 12)
* Barometer
* Better screen usage. OP uses more of the front with a screen, this does not matter much when the status field is much wider due to the punch hole
* Camera button, not opposing volume and power as on OP (many screenshots...)
* Better placements of camera, less fingers covers them.
* Tele lens was more useful than I expected
* Cameras may not be better in tests, but I took better photos with them. Probably due to that they are faster.
* 3.5 mm and SD card
* Capacitive sidemounted sensor is normally preferred.
Pros OP8T:
* Larger, brighter and better screen, less need for reading glasses.
* Better phone speakers, louder, no vibration .
* Dual band GPS
* Android 11 +3 updates compared to Android 10 +2 updates - two more years. More open dev community too, better Google Camera etc.
* Main Camera can be better in very few situations
* Quick actions from locked screen is useful
Had the 8T some months ago.
Finally returned it for some reasons
- many missed notifications due to ****ty battery optimizations in stock rom
- no way to disable album cover in the Lock Screen background while listening to music
- severe Amoled screen burn-in after a few days
But with Pixel experience it was one of the best phone I ever had:
- Widevine L1 while being rooted and BL unlocked (!)
- Great speaker sound
- Great GCam support
- Notification volume physical slider
- Many customization options
I got the 5 ii which I love. The headphone jack, battery, screen ratio are a perfect fit for me. But the lack of dev community is somewhat something that will bother me when it will be stuck with Android 12.
