I recently tried to start using Google Pay. Out of 5 attempts to use it, it worked only once.
I suspect maybe I just don't know proper way/place to put the phone on the terminal. Or maybe it is being closed when screen is off. I did make sure that the battery option is to not close it.
Any suggestions?
Use it all the time.... Never failed me yet.. <kiss of death >
Just make sure you unlock your phone and have it on the home page. You DONT need to open the Google pay app.. Also make sure nfc is always on.. When I use it I just touch the phone camera on the contact less symbol. Screen up. And ping! money taken....

And I have google pay set automatic under battery /launch.
Thanks forthe feedback.
Well, I'm giving up on it for now. In some cases it doesn't work (maybe the cashier tells me wrong about out being available).
More of the problem is that in my area even places that take mobile payments take one other than Google Pay. Interestingly I find more taking Samsung pay. I don't know why a Samsung user would use that instead of Google.
Also I find it interesting that vendors would use one and not another, given that the are only three that likely would be used be the masses.

I'm also fairly new to this contactless payment and is clueless about paying with devices until recently I bought a fitbit versa for my wife which has fitbit pay.
From what I understand (anyone pls correct me if I'm wrong), as long as the cashier accepts contactless payment, you can use any types including all credit and debit cards with this wave logo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Americanexpressplatinumemvcontactless.jpg), android pay, apple pay, samsung pay, fitbit pay and etc. I have yet to see fitbit pay logos at all cashiers here and wife has been using it successfully.
Also, when trying to pair with my Jabra headset using nfc, it's impossible to pair it with the phone when there's a cover (Nillkin) on so maybe that is the problem. Perhaps you can find another nfc device to practice on your phone.

Hi guys.
Will appreciate your help on this - don't want to be scammed.
Being offered a new condition, open box, S6 EDGE for a good deal, but box says following.
Not me nor seller (seems honest) have a clue!
I specifically need the F version (which this is) since I spend some time in the states and some time in europe.
Please your advice?
THANK YOU!!!!

Most phones in Samsung's Galaxy line come with a so-called "region lock". In this case, it means the phone can only be used with a SIM card from the ME-region. However, these region locks are not permanent. If the phone has already been used with an ME SIM at some point, and has had at least one phone conversation for a duration longer than 5 minutes, the lock is automatically removed (it is mainly there as a measure to prevent grey-imports). Though, if the phone has previously never been used, there is a risk you might not be able to activate it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/s6-s6-egde-regional-lock-t3076604/
I really appreciate your response. Very helpful and complete. Thank you!
Can't this be overcome via ADB? Some sort of a trick? This is XDA after all
I am actually even more perplexed now. By ME you mean Middle-East?
Phone was never used before according to seller. Claims he's the one who opened the box.
So basically the conclusion is that I should avoid this device? This phone cannot be activated in US? Can only be activated in the Middle East then? What constitutes ME though? I travel all the time so I actually might pull this off. Is there like a list of countries?
Why do they complicate the hell out of everything?!
Yes, unfortunately, if the phone has never been used before, you would actually need to insert a SIM from an ME (Middle-East) carrier and make a call to "unlock" it. If not, the phone will simply reject your SIM. From what I've read, this is supposedly to stop "foreign resellers", though many of these can now unlock the phone on request before shipping =/

Sadly, it seems to be embedded into the SoC firmware, so there's no trivial workaround for it as I know of.
Thank you once again. Do you happen to know what countries are considered ME? I know this definition varies.
Hm, can't seem to find a formal list on Samsung's site, but I would guess all countries listed under ME (http://www.samsung.com/countries), plus those under "Africa" redirecting to Samsung NA/EG (Morocco, Tunisia, Algiers, Libya & Egypt), as the phone should accept SIM cards from NA carriers as well.
Phenomenal link! Thank you. Quite helpful actually since their definition is somewhat different than what one might think.
If there's no way around this while in Europe or US, I think it's a no-deal ):
Too bad, I was offered a really good price on it. Bummer.
There's always a chance you could get an ME SIM somewhere online though. That said, there's no guarantee it will actually activate the phone when not connected to the carrier's own network. Might indeed be best to skip this deal, just to be on the safe side
Indeed.
I was thinking to myself - "what? Pshh, no problem, i'll XDA this in no time, easy peasy".
I was wondering if anyone had or tried the Starbucks app for the Gear S3 in the US. A user in Korea posted a review about it and it seems pretty cool. Locate nearby Starbucks locations, pre-order and pay through the app, bring up available coupons/card info to be scanned at the store, etc.
Sadly, it looks like I'm unable to post outside links here since I'm new here. Hope we get this in the US.

I suggest you try the other Starbucks app for samsung watches, called "SB Coffee Card". You can download from the Samsung store and it works with S3/Active/Galaxy/Sport/etc....and it's a standalone app (No need for phone or internet connection) so always usable.
If you don't want to pay for the app, just take a picture of the barcode on your Starbucks card and send it to the gallery on your watch
I tried the picture of barcode approach and it was hit and miss. Just tried the SB Coffee Card and it works! (On my Galaxy) I should point out this app is not made by starbucks (the author is upfront about that) - but it's probably the app Starbucks SHOULD have built. It works standalone (no need for internet connection, or phone nearby). Realistically I am not interested in preordering or topping up from credit card using my watch. I just want to pay for my bux and get away from all the hipsters
Maybe wait for a black friday deal on the app...or coupons. Not that $3 is too much to spend on an app, I just like free stuff.
A tatoo would work too and then you wouldn't even need the watch. But that's more than $3

Moving thread .... don't believe its a sprint issue
I switched from sprint to T-Mobile. They screwed up and let us keep our old phones and did a discount for the hassle. I figure I don't need 2 S8's so I would just sell it. Welcome to my nightmare.....
So I factory reset the phone to get all my data off, I did this through the settings menu. No issues the phone reset. It was at the beginning new phone screen so I just left it and placed the phone on craigslist.
I get a buyer and we meet at the store. The lady who works at sprint and was going to verify the phone was not stolen starts the phone and asks me for the password..........huh?....
The phone is at a password screen and I have maybe 5 at most that I use various combos of, none of these work. She brings it over to the "techs" there are they say they have never seen this. I then apologize the the man who wanted to buy the phone and proceed home. I do some searching online and find out how to get into certain menus and do resets, and re-flash the stock rom. Even after those it wants a password.
I then think I'll just use find my phone with good and unlock it. Well it is a sprint phone and I have T-Mobile now so it has no connection, and I can't get past the password to get to the wifi settings. So google says it can't find my phone.
I contact Samsung and since it’s been less than a year they say they will help. I send in the phone and they send me it back with the crack on the back of the phone fixed and nothing else. I called and they said they have record of me asking for help with a password problem. I then ask if I can send it back and get that taken care of and they said it would cost 150$ because they fixed the phone......huh?
I really just want this password off the phone. At this point it’s a matter of I am more curious about finding a way to get it off the phone than selling it. I’m also open to all ideas. Taking it apart, flashing something third party on it.
If you need pictures I will get them up shortly. Or a video. At work currently, so I can probably reply in a timely manner. If you need more info please ask and I’ll try and get whatever you need
Thanks in advance

Galaxy S9 pre-orders have begun for Samsung’s deceptively well-upgraded (if controversial) smartphone and it will hit stores on March 16th. But read Samsung’s small print and there’s a nasty surprise in there which can hit your wallets hard, and maybe even make you cancel your upgrade plans altogether…
.
.
.
Heavily marketed across the site is ‘Samsung Upgrade’. This entitles you “Get the latest Galaxy Phone every year” and it is the default payment option when you try to pre-order the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus, regardless of whether you requested it. Choose it and you are still told the “total” is the standard price for the phones (either $720 or $840), but Premium Care has been added “on separate financing terms.”
Premium Care is not listed as part of the “total” but will cost you an extra $11.99 per month over a two year period. The first month is free so that’s 23 payments totalling an extra $276. If you’d like to find out more about it Samsung states: “For additional questions regarding Samsung Premium Care, please call 1-866-371-9501.”
Furthermore, if you do place this order by accident then because the first month of Premium Care is free you won’t notice it in your billing. You will in month two, but then you have already passed the 30-day return window. Samsung also retains the right to increase the monthly cost of Premium Care at any time with 30 days notice.

That's if you chose that option, you could have paid it in full or just financed it as well.
Yeah, and it's not like it was hidden that they were adding on the insurance, unlike the article seems to imply. It'd also standard procedure for such an arrangement, and apple, Motorola, Google and others do the same. This article came off to me as nothing but click bait.

Forbes and most other new sites are click bait and propaganda crap.
In what way is this hidden? (Also seems to be US site only)

I looked at it, didn't seem that hidden. It defaulted to the care plan but as long as you read the 3 options its not hard to figure out which one to select if you just want the phone.
If you can't tell the difference between those 3 options, then you shouldn't be purchasing the phone on the internet.
So now I have my Watch 5 Pro I thought I'd set up Samsung Pay, haven't used it for over a year, maybe more, and it's gone - it's Samsung Wallet.
Pretty tortuous set-up, and it seems none (or very few) of my cards work any more, or not without Samsung + anyway, which means I seem to need Curve. I think I've got everything added but the curve option just comes up on the phone as the curve card not the other 2 I added.
I now have no idea what I'm doing or how it works, or select the card I want? And I haven't even tried to add it to the watch yet!!
Is it just my advancing years or is this all just a pain to set up. Should I try Google pay? Is it simpler and will it work from the watch?
In what region are you? In nordics, I use samsung pay normally without any issues. Can you download samsung pay in the samsung store?
Yes I would switch to Google Wallet. It's easy to set up and it works seamlessly in just about every part of the world.

Thanks, any issue with cards not being accepted like Virgin or Chase (hence the Curve nonsense)
