Galaxy S9 pre-orders have begun for Samsung’s deceptively well-upgraded (if controversial) smartphone and it will hit stores on March 16th. But read Samsung’s small print and there’s a nasty surprise in there which can hit your wallets hard, and maybe even make you cancel your upgrade plans altogether…
.
.
.
Heavily marketed across the site is ‘Samsung Upgrade’. This entitles you “Get the latest Galaxy Phone every year” and it is the default payment option when you try to pre-order the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus, regardless of whether you requested it. Choose it and you are still told the “total” is the standard price for the phones (either $720 or $840), but Premium Care has been added “on separate financing terms.”
Premium Care is not listed as part of the “total” but will cost you an extra $11.99 per month over a two year period. The first month is free so that’s 23 payments totalling an extra $276. If you’d like to find out more about it Samsung states: “For additional questions regarding Samsung Premium Care, please call 1-866-371-9501.”
Furthermore, if you do place this order by accident then because the first month of Premium Care is free you won’t notice it in your billing. You will in month two, but then you have already passed the 30-day return window. Samsung also retains the right to increase the monthly cost of Premium Care at any time with 30 days notice.

That's if you chose that option, you could have paid it in full or just financed it as well.
Yeah, and it's not like it was hidden that they were adding on the insurance, unlike the article seems to imply. It'd also standard procedure for such an arrangement, and apple, Motorola, Google and others do the same. This article came off to me as nothing but click bait.

Forbes and most other new sites are click bait and propaganda crap.
In what way is this hidden? (Also seems to be US site only)

I looked at it, didn't seem that hidden. It defaulted to the care plan but as long as you read the 3 options its not hard to figure out which one to select if you just want the phone.
If you can't tell the difference between those 3 options, then you shouldn't be purchasing the phone on the internet.

Like the title says, get a free phone skin from Marlboro and skinit.com.
1. Scan qr code in picture below
2. Set up account
3. Create a brand
4. Get it shipped
Says it could 8-10 weeks for delivery, but I just ordered mine on 23OCT and received it in the mail 01NOV. Limited to folks 21 and older and they do ask for SS# for age and identification verification so there is that catch. Other than that, no strings attached. Figure if you're a nonsmoker you can just make up some stuff when you create the account for brand preference and such. I also included pics of mine. If you decide to get one come back and post pics.
It does limit you to 2 characters on the brand and as hindsight is always 20/20, I realized I could've done my favorite college or university as opposed to the initials of my name.

As I lurk more often than not, I'm crossing my fingers that I posted the pics correctly.

Pics are pretty small, and appear to be screen shots of pictures, but they worked. From looks pretty cool, but they ask for way too much info to feel comfortable IMO. Cool find though.
i already am on the marlboro mailing lists and get several freebies a year, so theyve already gotten my info. that being said, i ordered this a few weeks ago also. im not one for phone skins so i had it made to fit an iphone 3gs for my dad. quality is soso. just a typical skinit skin. not bad for free.
Not many skins to choose from, but hell its free, I got the one that looked like chrome for the toolboxes on the back of truck... the brand thing is pretty cool too, makes it unique. 15 bucks saved.
How strange
Thanks for the post, I don't see why you need to be 21+ when you're legally allowed to smoke at 18. Lol. I'm not the one giving away free skins, so i guess it's on them.
Give them social security for a free identify theft for them and get a free skin? HMMM....
Yeah, as unbelievable as it sounds it's quite true. My friend saw a table in a skip outside a charity shop the other day that she thought she would take and restore. When she took it out she noticed something heavy wrapped in newspaper and several old Samsung (D400 type) mobile phones in the skip.
When she unwrapped an iPad she brought it to me to examine. It has a white front and a silver back with model: A1458 written on it. I couldn't turn it on as the battery is dead which is indicated by the battery symbol that appears on the LCD when the power button is pushed.
The charge / USB socket looks to be the new iPhone 5 socket for which I do not have a cable for at present so I was unable to tell what spec it was.
I tried to register it with Apple but when it asked for date of purchase (I made one up of about a week old) the website asked me to provide proof of purchase information and would not show me any details about it.
I found another site that claimed to I.D it by it's serial number and I took a picture of it (attached).
So tomorrow I will get a lead and see if any owner info is on it and if so contact them to find out what they did with it. However I have a feeling this is not going to be registered to anyone (if it powers up).
My friend just wants to sell it.
Can anyone give me some advice on the best course of action? I really don't want to just hand it in to the filth so some copper can give it to his brat in 6 months!
Cheers
Phill.

I highly doubt someone just discarded an iPad 4...do the right thing and take it to an Apple store and have them track down the rightful owner...if the owner can't be contacted or did, in fact, discard it...then have fun selling it or keeping it.

I recently tried to start using Google Pay. Out of 5 attempts to use it, it worked only once.
I suspect maybe I just don't know proper way/place to put the phone on the terminal. Or maybe it is being closed when screen is off. I did make sure that the battery option is to not close it.
Any suggestions?
Use it all the time.... Never failed me yet.. <kiss of death >
Just make sure you unlock your phone and have it on the home page. You DONT need to open the Google pay app.. Also make sure nfc is always on.. When I use it I just touch the phone camera on the contact less symbol. Screen up. And ping! money taken....

And I have google pay set automatic under battery /launch.
Thanks forthe feedback.
Well, I'm giving up on it for now. In some cases it doesn't work (maybe the cashier tells me wrong about out being available).
More of the problem is that in my area even places that take mobile payments take one other than Google Pay. Interestingly I find more taking Samsung pay. I don't know why a Samsung user would use that instead of Google.
Also I find it interesting that vendors would use one and not another, given that the are only three that likely would be used be the masses.

I'm also fairly new to this contactless payment and is clueless about paying with devices until recently I bought a fitbit versa for my wife which has fitbit pay.
From what I understand (anyone pls correct me if I'm wrong), as long as the cashier accepts contactless payment, you can use any types including all credit and debit cards with this wave logo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Americanexpressplatinumemvcontactless.jpg), android pay, apple pay, samsung pay, fitbit pay and etc. I have yet to see fitbit pay logos at all cashiers here and wife has been using it successfully.
Also, when trying to pair with my Jabra headset using nfc, it's impossible to pair it with the phone when there's a cover (Nillkin) on so maybe that is the problem. Perhaps you can find another nfc device to practice on your phone.

Just a quick warning, recently a number of new accounts have been targeting Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, and Honor View 20 owners by sending them unsolicited DMs offering to purchase their phone or the build.prop* file for more than double the original value of the device. THIS IS A SCAM. The user is likely intending to use the phone to claim certain in-game promotional items without actually paying. If you engage with them, one of two things may happen:
- They will insist that you send your phone to them first before they pay, but once they receive your phone they never pay up.
- They will pay you, but then use PayPal to force a chargeback and reclaim their payment even if you legitimately send them the phone.
Also, offering to trade phones is against the XDA Forum Rules, clause 7.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam.
* PS. With regards to why people are so interested in the build.prop file, at some point there may have been a rumour that the file contained unique device serial numbers that could be used to spoof someone's device and claim promotional items without their consent. However, this appeared to be a false claim because the build.prop only contains system configurations and hardware model numbers, neither of which can be used for AppGallery redemptions. Sadly, it doesn't seem to have stopped these people from continually begging for the file. You also need root access to read/overwrite this file so if anyone tells you that they need your file to "repair" theirs, it's likely a lie.
Yes they are all fake. I have been ignoring such messages on xda, Facebook and Instagram for codes which they asly in terms of some help or some help with issue and thinks users are fool to be trapped in their scams but in fact people are smarter than they think
Aaaaah Fortnite.... ?
That what you get when you register for all those phone ''unlocking'' sites. Scammers get your full info and then spam the f.. out of you.
Huawei/Honor devices cannot be unlocked, because officially it is not possible, period!
Hello, good morning, good afternoon, good night everyone. I'm new to this site and honestly I'm a little sad and a little desperate. Two days ago, this tablet that I bought arrived: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164952253163?var=464487247387
He arrived with the box torn (maybe it's because of customs here in Brazil that decided to open the box to tax me. I paid around $62 fee, to receive the item.) I came across a tablet with a somewhat performance different than expected. Unfortunately, some settings shown in the ad didn't turn out to be true and this impacted the performance I expected from my device. I knew it wasn't a tablet from Samsung or Asus or another famous company, but I was disappointed because of the seller's lack of honesty with the actual settings of the tablet. Without going too far, I wanted to change the ROM of this device, it comes with these settings here: http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=3b14-d459-34a4-d06c0033c587
But, as it's not as specific as a Galaxy Tab A7 or other, I couldn't find a ROM to install on it. Could you help me in this regard? It looks like some CUSTOM ROMS are universal, working on any device that has the mt6592 but I'm afraid to mess up. I would just like to use a system a little more fluid for my device

You obviously got cheated, hence why not return tablet to ebay and request refund of purchase price?

I already thought about it. I will open a dispute about the item, but if I end up keeping it (since on some platforms, even if I get a refund, I still get the item) I would like to know if I can make this kind of ROM modification, for, for me, I believe, it will be more advantageous than doing the return process. What do you think?
