Access recovery with a broken screen? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

So I accidentally dropped my Pixel and now the screen is black. The device still functions normally, only the screen doesn't work. I wanted to access my phone through Vysor but that requires I have USB debugging on. Unfortunately I restarted the phone and cannot use the fingerprint sensor to unlock it, and the only way to unlock it after a restart is to enter the passcode. I saw a tutorial on how to remove the passcode using adb which supposedly works from recovery. However, I've been struggling to reach recovery mode without being able to see what I'm doing on the screen.
I can get into fastboot just fine ("fastboot devices" shows the device is in fastboot mode) but when I press volume down twice, nothing happens for a few seconds, then the phone is "disconnected" from the computer and eventually just restarts into the normal ROM (I know this because using the fingerprint sensor makes the device vibrate). How should I get into recovery to remove my passcode? Is there an easier way to achieve what I want to do? (access the phone from my PC)
Thanks!

Vysor might work. You can remotely install it from the play store website, then access it using the chrome browser extension. I was able to do this when my pixel c display died.

I just did a remote install from the play store but when I plug it in it says the device is unauthorized, meaning USB debugging is disabled. I can't enable it because the device remains locked after a reboot until I put the pin in, which I can't do because the screen doesn't work.

That's unfortunate. I don't know of a method for turning on USB debugging without logging into the device. It's one of the reasons why I always enable developer mode and USB debugging immediately when setting up a new device.

Screen doesn't work and I need to get my pictures off

Hi there, My nexus 5 is having screen issues and the screen basically doesn't function due to what I can only assume is a bad connection on the mainboard ( if I press in the right area with the back cover off the screen will flicker and work a tiny bit if I reboot the phone.) My issue is I still have tons of pictures that are very dear to me on the device and need to get them off of it. When I connect it to my pc (windows 7) it connects and shows up as a nexus 5 device but nothing will appear in the folder. Im fairly certain I have the correct drivers installed as well. So how can I get it to connect properly with having basically no access to the screen? Ill even paypal you $5 if your answer works for me, thanks
Did you enable USB debugging? Did you enable MTP when connected to a computer? Is the computer a trusted device?

must have at some point because i connected it to a computer in the past, no idea and i dont know how to, and i dont know.
If the the phone is running a stock ROM and has a lock screen PIN, pattern, or password, you probably need to unlock the phone and select MTP as the USB option in order to have the Nexus 5 files appear in Windows Explorer.
If you have access to another N5, you could swap motherboards, copy the data, and swap motherboards again.

SOLVED: S7 dropped > broken screen > how to recover images? Not rooted, not "usb mode"

SOLVED: S7 dropped > broken screen > how to recover images? Not rooted, not "usb mode"
So my wife dropped S7 to the floor and device ended up to be fully powered, but screen is now all black. Back and "software" button illuminates. I can change volume. I can take photos. So phone works, but screen is all black. Main concern is to have photos out from the phone. Contacts are synced, software etc. can be installed to new phone.
Kies finds the phone, but says that is' locked. Although phone does not have any passcodes or fingerprint, Kies cannot access to photos. Also the PC does see the device, but it won't allow me to see the contents. Find My Mobile is not activated, I think that I can't activate it now without phone. Also Smart Switch says that phone is locked. Phone settings are pretty much as out from the box. USB debugging is off, Developper options off, etc...
But I found that possible via ABD (?) I could access phone storage. Is it so? I sould start the phone to Recovery Mode / Download Mode? How to do that? Normally the phone is on and I can't switch it off. I can only soft reset is by keeping vol- + power buttons pressed for 10sec. But after that, phone just restarts to OS.
Please give hints how to proceed. What to try. New LCD is around 50USD and takes forever to get from Aliexpress/Ebay.
Why not use an external display? Hook it up to the USB-connector via an adaptor and it should work to unlock the phone using a PC-mouse.

O, it has such feature? Quick googling did not help how to do it. How does it work? Do I need some cable or device?
Any ideas how to proceed? I either can reboot device to Recovery mode and use ADB or connect external display to the device. Or if someone has any better solution
Please help. Family photos are in the phone
Try to unlock your lock screen with a usb mouse connected via otg and swiping up with the mouse. Then connect it to the computer and try to backup your data with kies or switch.
Tried many thing how to allow the connection from another phone or computer. However it was not possible to connect, so I ordered a new screen. Once new screen installed, it was not even a challenge Ordered new screen from Aliexpress.

Samsung S7 Edge ADB Commands

Hi,
Basically I have a Samsung S7 Edge (SM-G935F) which the screen is completely smashed on (no display no touch). When I connect it to the PC it detects the phone but it doesn't show the folders inside (can only assume its got a prompt to accept PC or USB debugging isn't enabled).
After a lot of testing with OTG cables keyboards/mouse etc the furthest I got was putting the phone into Recovery Mode (PWR, VOL UP & HOME) then selected APPLY UPDATE ADB.
When I run the ADB in Powershell and run "adb devices" it finds the device ID and says "sideload".
Is there any command I can run to pull the files off my internal DCIM folder (thats all I really need)?
I did read up the only way this could be possible is to install a custom rom (TWP with ODIN?) and then pull files off.
Is this possible and would installing a custom rom delete my internal files as that would render this pointless.
Sorry im new to a lot of this so all my knowledge is just what ive read recently.
Thanks
1. To pull user data USB-debugging must got enabled. May be this method works for you to enable it:
2. To flash TWRP it's required device's bootloader got unlocked - what requires OEM unlock must got enabled . Note: Unlocking bootloader erases all user data.

Thanks for the reply,
Ok so my only option is the "blind" method.
I have the app installed via Google Play Store on my PC to the device however when I hold down the home button to ask google I hear no reply from her, is there any hotkey to use for this device to ask google or any alternative methods to open this app?
I can see the S7 Edge is connected to my WIFI as it shows on the Sky Hub and IPScanner.
Also is there a way to tell what android interface version I have so I can follow someone on Youtube going into Settings or Apps etc to open the app.
I feel like I am so close to getting these photos off the phone but its just a blind guess at the moment.
I managed to get a hold of a friends S7 Edge, using this I mapped out some keyboard functions to turn on developers options then usb debuggings.
What I have noticed is now when I connect the phone via USB to the PC and run ADB DEVICES it shows up the ID then unauthorised as the status, so I can only assume this means I have USB DEBUGGING ENABLED.
Is this correct?
If so why when I open the Samsung Galaxy in Windows does it still not show the folders, is there another setting I need to turn on/off?

I want the internal storage contents of DCIM on the phone.
I followed the steps on my "donor" phone to go into Developer Options > USB Configuration > MTP but all that happens is the phone detects on Windows but wont show me the contents of it.
I also tried changing to PTP but same issue.
I know there is a pop-up that shows on the phone asking to ALLOW THE PC TO ACCESS FILES but I cannot have the USB DATA CABLE and OTG/KEYBOARD plugged in at the same time (and I also tried two OTG adapters both came up MOISTURE DETECTED when using).
So unless anyone knows of a OTG SPLITTER that 100% works with S7 EDGE then I need to find a way to either bypass the ALLOW MESSAGE or manually add my PC to its allow list.

fully charge your phone and hopefully the heat generated from charging process remove the moisture detected warning or you can also use hair blower to heat your charging port area
also don't put your device on microwave oven unless you want to see some fireworks

Help Accessing Data on Screen Locked P20

Hi - wondering if anyone out there can think of a solutions to this...
So, my wife cracked her phone screen (Huawai P20) and bought a cheap phone to use short term while we worked out a replacement (Alcatel 1). When setting up the temporary phone, not all of the data from her P20 was install/copied, mainly because there's not enough storage space to hold it all.
Some of the data left on the P20 is really important (downloaded documents/files and pevious whatsapp history), so I was going to hook it up to a PC and grab all the data from it, but the biggest problem is she can't remember the unlock pattern. I know developer mode/USB debugging is not turned on, so I can't even get a PC/ADB to recognise it, plus I've had to connect it to a mouse and monitor (via HDMI/USB adapter) to even view/control the unlock screen.
I'm pretty sure that without the pattern we have little or no options, but was wondering if anyone knew the answers to the following:
Is there any way to unlock the phone using the old PIN that was set (she's confident she knows this)?
Is there a way to unlock using the finger print sensor (even though is says 'pattern required due to restart')
Should ADB list it as a device even though USB debigging is turned off and the phone is screen locked (currently does not list it, but I thought you could PIN unlock via ADB)
Does anyone know any other tools/options for accessiing the files on the phone.
Thanks is advance for any help!
Basically you can access Android's filesystem in ADB-mode or in MTP-mode: the latter should always be possible.
Even if USB Debuging is turned off and the screen is locked? Any tips on how to get the PC to see the device in MTP mode?
Thanks!
My wifey has a Huawei Y7 with HiSuite installed on Windows PC and HDB enabled on phone. As soon as she connects PC with phone over USB, confirms the verification code, phone gets mounted on PC as external USB-drive and thus visible in MTP-mode.
My guess is you have to take your Huawei to authorized service center and let them try to fix it.
Ah Ok. HiSuite asks for USB Debugging to be enabled first, which i can't do because it's locked. Thanks for you help anayway.

Debugging authorized but not enabled (broken screen/digitizer)

I believe this topic should be mostly device agnostic but for details I'm working with a Fire Tablet 10, a year or two old or so, not sure exact revision but OS and recovery are stock and it is not rooted.
In the past I have connected to this tablet over ADB from my PC (device/connection authorized). The screen and digitizer recently broke. I was still able to connect via ADB and I could even use scrcpy to remote in from my PC. I was having trouble inputting the screen unlock because the digitizer was constantly registering inputs all over the screen nonstop. I was able to unlock the screen with adb input text but as soon as I did, the tablet started opening apps, swiping the top panel, etc. I disconnected a few seconds later but in that short time something happened and now I can't get back in with ADB. My PC does recognize the tablet as being connected but can not even access typical files and folders (no files or folders show up at all). I suspect that one of the registered inputs was in the top panel like changing the usb mode to charge-only or even worse; disabled usb debugging. I have since opened it up and disconnected the screen and digitizer to prevent this from happening again.
I know the topic is asked a million times 'can I get back in if I never enabled usb debugging' but I can't find any answers for my situation where my computer should still be in the authorized devices list on the tablet, just lacking the debug interface being enabled (or something similar). I am not against buying some hardware/adapter to connect to an external display but I haven't found anything yet that will be plug-and-play out-of-the-box (all I've found so far need ADB or an app installed).
My question is: Can I do anything to re-enable standard ADB/USB debugging (or maybe ADB over IP) to get back in if I have a computer that should still be authorized?
Thank you all in advance for any advice or suggestions.
you could try to inject init.rc service
Code:
settings put global adb_enabled 1
or edit default.prop in boot (if not symlink to /system)
Code:
persist.service.adb.enable=1
persist.service.debuggable=1
persist.sys.usb.config=mtp,adb
you can modify boot with AIK and flash with mtkclient or SP Flash Tool.
In any case, do a full ROM dump first. Do not try to unlock bootloader, encryption keys are bonded to bootloader lock state (some people claim it's possible to unlock bootloader without data loss, I don't believe).
