New to XDA forums so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place. If I am please tell me where to post this. For a little bit of background context I have an s8+ and my carrier is Verizon. I am on 8.0 Oreo and Samsung experience 9.0. Right now I am currently using the Verizon messages app (Message+) but I wanted to switch to the s9 messages app. I have never used the stock s8+ messages app it is still installed on my phone however. I am trying to get the s9+ messages app onto my s8+ device specifically the Samsung Messages 5.0.21.32 version on apkmirror.com as it is the newest version of the messages. So I download it on the samsung beta internet and then after its done downloading and I open the file it asks if I want to install an update to this built in application and then I press install and then it says app not installed? Anyone know how to fix this? Am i supposed to force stop the messages app before i try to install the s9 one? I am very confused. Thank you all and have a good day!!

I would've used app cloner and removed the restrictions. Not so sure if it would work though I could try.

Hello everyone,
I just installed CM12.1 (the latest snapshot available for Samsung Galaxy S5) and I'm unable to use the Gear Manager. I tried installing it from the Play Store as well as some linked APK's, but every time I launch it I get this error:
The operating system on your phone has been modified in an unauthorised way, and is not compatible with the Samsung Gear app. Check your operating system and try again.
This is a really ****ty error message - what in my OS exactly am I supposed to check
Anyway, after some googling I've been unable to find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Similar issue so < bump >
I know it isn't simply that I have rooted the phone, because when I go back to stock I root the stock lollipop and the Gear Manager still works, so it must be something in Knox or something Samsung specific that is missing from the CM ROMs
any advice would be appreciated
Anyone have the new Samsung Browser apk that installs on this phone? The new one preferably that installed on the note 5 marshmallow update recently?
I think this is the latest version. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5dpWzuG6nRYYXhpUV93M3U0MFU/view?usp=sharing

Unfortunately we will have to wait until we get root. The app will force close upon opening unless it is placed in the system/app or system/priv-app folder.
Hello all,
Since the last firmware update (G930FXXS1DQHN) of my S7 G930F I have issues with seeing the folder content of several maps in my stock (Samsung) email client v4.0.87.0. Apparently, I am not the only one and have it with several (exchange) accounts. Before the latest firmware upgrade all worked fine.
The provided stock email in the firmware seems to be pretty old. Many newer releases of Samsung Email are available, but unfortunately, I cannot install neither of them (package conflict with already exsisting package error), hoping an upgrade of the stock client solves my issues.
Is there a way out to upgrade the stock Samsung email client on a non rooted S7? Thanks in advance for replies.
For info: my T813 tablet running stock email v4.0.70.0 does NOT have this issue of not displaying folder content of some email folders.

Thanks for reply, but I had already Secure Startup Enabled and multiple reboots....but do not see the relation with respect to options to install APK updates of stock apps. One only adds a password to eneable starting up the system. Or am I stupid ?
Any more detailed info availble how to tackle this one?

It is the known fix for the "Package name conflict" error when trying to update stock apps, works without fail for everyone up until now
Either disabling or enabling secure startup and then rebooting allows the install, doesn't seem to care which one you do as long as it is the opposite of whatever you had set when it wasn't working
Try Disabling Secure Startup > Boot to recovery > Clear cache partition > Reboot > Install APK
If that fails, enable Secure startup again and reboot once more, try installing apks
Keep in mind, if you reboot without toggling secure startup, apps will fail to install again on next boot, they only install after you toggle that setting and then reboot, rebooting normally will break it again
Well, now it is clear and it worked. Updated to version 4.2 now . Thanks for the good tip!!! It will make my colleagues happy as well.
:good:
Funny to see that this trick does NOT work on my Tab S2 T813, unfortunately.

Yes, and also running on Nougat. Tried multiple times and switched between Disabling / Enable Secure Startup and immediate reboot, then install apk.

That trick was only for the S7, not heard of it working on any other devices, would need to find another solution I guess

Rooted devices have no secure startup option
Not sure how you would install the updates apps without it, unless you know how to replace the stock ones manually using a root file explorer
Hi, since the Oreo update I can't find the "Unknown sources" to install APK's freely. I'ts not under "Lock Screen and Security", and I have enabled Chrome in "Applications/Special Access/Install other apps" and I'm trying to install apps from the "Downloads" section of chrome, but it dosn't work this way either.
I was trying to install the Pixel Launcher as seen from here: https://theunlockr.com/2018/03/13/make-samsung-galaxy-s9-look-like-stock-android/
But everytime I try it I get the "<!> Application not installed".
I don't know exactly what says in english, I'm using my phone in spanish.
Any ideas? Thanks!
If you go to Settings-Apps-3 Dots-Special Access-Install Unknown Apps.
They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps
Please help how to fix this problem. This doesn't work, I tried installing Accuweather pro several times. I have the app saved to my Google Drive, I click on the app and I see something called 'Staging App' and then I get this alert ' There was a problem parsing the package'. I currently had an older version of Accuweather pro installed and working fine. I decided to remove the old version and then reinstall it and I received the same alert. FYI the old Accuweather app was installed before the Oreo update.

Have you tried downloading your APP file from Google Drive to your phone then opening the copy on your phone, that should install the .apk
Go to settings on the phone >> apps >> 3 vertical dots at the top right corner >> special access >> install unknown apps >> and there enable the permission from where you are trying to download it.
All thank you,
I found out that you now have to download the app to your phone. Google Drive does not allow you to download and manually install .
Dear sir/madam,
Following your answer, in specific this part, "They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps", perhaps someone could help me out. I use the Firefox Focus browser and this app doesn't show up in the list of apps that are allowed to install unknown apps.
* Does this mean Firefox Focus can't install apps from unknown apps, since it's not on the list?
* And perhaps we can conclude from that it will never be allowed to do so?
* Or would this app not be on this list, because I've never tried installing anything using this browser?
I guess the real question would be, what populates this list?
I hope to hear from you, thanks in advance, all the best.
Form what I've seen, 1st time you try to install apk from an app it asks you if you want to allow it?

That's what I was thinking as well, funny thing is that 'Google Chrome' is in the list and I've never used that browser. Unless it's there, because it's from Google
I have followed the above suggestions and have allowed Chrome to install apps since that's the browser I'm using. The phone says I have downloaded the app but it is not giving me any option to install it? Where did the download go and how can I get it actually installed? This is an app for work.
Edit: Nevermind - I restarted the phone and tried again and it worked. thanks.
Dear,
I have a problem installing an application on my new Huawei Mate 10 lite. I installed the open, but on opening it says the device modal is not compatible. Is there a way I can have the application running on my device? the application is a dictionary and I am in a dire need of it, for I use it for my studies. I would appreciate any help that would get the app running. Thank you

You're trying to install it from Google play or from an APK file ?
I installed it as an APK file. It was working fine on my old Samsung Galaxy S5, as I had it downloaded from Galaxy App Store. The latter is presumably the only place where this application exists for free. I downloaded it from Galaxy App Store, installed it on galaxy s5 and shared the APK file by means of another sharing app. It installs, but it does not run. It says "device modal not compatible".

Yes , that's a kind of " protection " for Samsung , I had the same problem with gear fit manager , an app from Samsung to make a smartwatch work . That was the only way to make it work but Samsung didn't allow to run this app on low-end Samsung devices and others devices.
Unfortunately , I can't do anything.
I believe that there should be a way to install it, since it is not an application that Samsung built. The only thing is that it is offered for free by Samsung. I can't find it any elsewhere, at least the same exact version that I am looking for, but on the Samsung app store. So, I tried to share it, but it never worked. I saw somewhere on this website how to install it, but requires the phone to be rooted.

Yes , it may be the case , because I think you have to fake your device name or something like that.
But I haven't the sufficient knowledge .
Maybe a longer search will be helpful , I hope you'll find the way to do this
